Rip audio off DVD

Hi Gang
I did a show someone video taped and they sent me a DVD, Is there a way to separate audio off of a movie DVD to get it into Logic? other than real time?
Thanks
Don

I got a star also and I guessed at half my answer... oh, where has quality control gone these days? Before you know it we'll all end up getting stars just for participating in a thread even if our answer is 180º out of phase with reality... We'll be just like kiddies in a baseball league (that's "rounders" to you, Rohan) who all get trophies even if they didn't win... What is the world coming to anyway??? Donald, man, you are contributing to the decline of civilization, one star at a time.
Again!

  • Can I 'Rip' Audio Off a Clip in iMovie?

    I'm a Mac and iMovie 'newbie', and am wondering if I'm able to pull the audio off of a clip that I have loaded into iMovie to use in another clip (i.e. I have a shot where I want/need the audio to lay-over another clip, but don't need the clip itself)?
    If I can't do this in iMovie, does anyone know whether the capability exists in Final Cut Express?
    Thanks kindly everyone!

    I am having a similar problem. I bought my Mac a few months ago and am just getting into using imovie. I think it's great but I really want to detach my audio from a video I just made so I can import it into Garageband but the detach audio function is gray on my edit droptab along with some other functions. Do I need to buy another version of imovie for this feature to work seeing as how I'm using the version that came standard with my computer, or am I just not doing the operation correctly?

  • Ripped audio from DVD to FCP

    Once I've used a ripping program like Mac the Ripper to get video and audio files from DVD, how do I get the audio only onto a cd?

    Geez David.
    I kinda noted that. The question is where are the original unencoded audio sources? Is this music? Or someone talking? If it is music, use the the sources if they are not copyrighted.
    You don't need "Mac the Ripper" to extract unencrypted or non copyrighted DVDs.
    We get so many requests here about extracting VOBs from DVDs.
    Given the terms of use, and laws about extracting from commercial DVDs, many of us are suspicious when a "client" brings in an encoded DVD and wants it "reauthored" for his reel.
    Now this isn't you, but when I say get the original source of audio, then I wonder why it isn't available.
    Or why didn't the DVD simply contain aiff audio files as a data DVD
    take care

  • Rip audio from dvd on pc?

    hi,
    I'd like to rip just the audio from a music video I have on a DVD, for use as an mp3 on my iPod. I already have DVD decrypter, videora and replay, but I'm not much good at experimenting with them. Could anyone provide a step-by-step? Thank you!

    I searched the forums, came up with a ton of answers for mac, but none for PC. That's why I posted... please help!

  • Ripping audio from DVDs?

    I have a music DVD that shows a favorite band of mine playing live and I really like the way it sounds, so I wanted to put it in my iTunes to listen while doing other things. So, my question is, is there a nice (free?) program or way to rip the audio? I have iLife if that helps.

    Once you copy the DVD to your hard drive with MacTheRipper
    <http://mac.sofotex.com/download-126887.html>
    you can use MPEG Streamclip

  • Is iTunes able to "rip" audio from DVDs or TiVo files?

    I wish to add to my iTunes library the Audio portion of some Opera DVDs which physically can be read (Played) from the DVD/cd unit in my PC

    I have an XP Sp3 configuration and a Vista laptop.  NOT interested in the Video, as creating a large library of "background" music.

    iTunes cannot even play audio DVDs, much less rip them. And since breaking the copy protection present on most commercial audio DVDs is illegal in the US (and a number of other countries), we cannot discuss any possible conversion here.

  • Need help getting audio off of a dvd...

    [You can skip this paragraph if you don't need the backstory.]
    So, for several weeks I've been trying to get some audio off of a DVD of mine and into a simple mp3 file. A couple days ago I found and followed this guide, and thought I had succeeded. But after a while I realized that the file I got does not play nice with my handheld mp3 player, or mpd, or mplayer, or anything whatsoever that is not gstreamer-based. MPD goes especially berserk - after playing the file, it can no longer play anything else until I reboot (yes reboot - restarting mpd doesn't fix anything). I should also mention that I'm aware that the guide is not 100% correct; I followed the advice and corrections of some commentors there too.
    Anyways, I guess I need to ask for help with this. How would you go about getting audio off of a DVD?

    I usually use the following command to rip a music dvd to wav:
    OUTPUTDIR="/Some/Rip/Dir"
    TITLE=2
    FIRST_CHAPTER=1
    LAST_CHAPTER=13
    CHAPTER=$FIRST_CHAPTER
    AUDIO_ID=128
    echo "Ripping Audio..."
    while [ $CHAPTER -le $LAST_CHAPTER ]; do
    let NO=$CHAPTER
    mplayer -dvd-device /dev/dvd1 dvd://$TITLE -vo null -vc null -ao pcm:waveheader:file=$OUTPUTDIR/track$NO.wav -af lavcresample=44100 -aid $AUDIO_ID -chapter $CHAPTER-$CHAPTER
    let CHAPTER=CHAPTER+1
    done
    Resampling to 44100 is important since most mp3 players cannot handle 48000.
    Then I have another little script that converts it to flac, sets the correct tags, and finally converts the flac to oggs as well..

  • Ripping audio from a DVD - Any ideas for Macs

    Hi
    I found a nice and simple piece of software from www.imtoo.com which can rip the audio out of a DVD and save it as an audio file for import to iPod. For a whole bunhc of reasons I'd rather have just the audio from films and comedy shows than the whole video.
    Oddly this was listed in MacWorld, but they don't do an Apple Mac version. I am after a one stop solution if anyone knows of one - guess there must be as the IMTOO product works so elegantly, am sure someone has done this for the Mac.
    Cheers
    Sammy

    I am not aware of any tool for the Mac that can rip audio from a DVD-A (audio only) disk.
    I am also not aware of any 1 step tool for ripping the audio from ordinary DVD video disks.
    The approach I took when I did this involved using MacTheRipper to copy to a hard disk, another tool to extract the audio, and then if I remember correctly, I used QuickTime to save the tracks as individual files (with the correct track lengths are listed on the cover). I was then able to burn the results files to a CD (audio format), and incredibly the resulting CD was recognised by iTunes (and Gracenote CDDB) with the correct tracks names etc. (The DVD was of a concert.)
    This as you can tell was not a simple one step operation, it took most of an afternoon trying various tools.

  • Taking audio off a DVD

    Other than playing the DVD on the Computer, connecting an audio cable from the headset jack out to a vtr or similar device, recording the dvd audio to tape and then re-digitizing that audio back in, is there an easy way to get audio off a DVD into Final Cut Pro 4.5?

    You know, I'd answer this question (which is asked about 15 billion times a week) if it was someone who just registered today and this was their first post ... but you've been here for 2 1/2 years and post here regularly....
    No time like the present to finally learn the 'little used search function' !
    Try it, set an example for the noobies!

  • Loading off DVD's audio file of last project Plays

    I load files off DVD from my church recorder, 1 st project goes great !! Next project off next DVD won't accept new audio plays audio form last closed project    Need Ideas Please!!!!!!!!!!

    When new audio material is imported into Premiere it converts the audio to 32bit and saves the new audio file in the Media cache. This new file is then used when editing. What I expect is happening in your case is that the 2nd dvd has the same file names as the first, Premiere thinks the audio is the same so does not redo the conversion to 32bit. To get round this problem delete all the .pek and .cfa files in your Media Cache Files folder. You can find the location of this file by looking under Edit-Preferences-Media in Premiere. I'm on a PC but there will be something similar for a Mac. When you then import your second dvd the audio should be reconformed.

  • How to strip audio from DVD?

    I want to get some audio off of a regular DVD - i want to import the audio (only) and use it on a new project.
    I have FCP, DVD SP. iDVD, Toast 7, iMovie but cannot figure out how to do it?
    Thanks

    Use DVDxDV or MPEG Streamclip to convert the VOB files into Quicktime.
    Export the audio as aif 48khz/16 bit using QT Pro.
    Perhaps the programs listed above will allow you to simply convert the audio portion, I don't know, never used them that way.
    FWIW, These programs will not work on protected disks.

  • Ripping from a DVD

    How do I rip video off of a DVD? (it is not copyrighted material).
    In the past, I've had to play the disc in a DVD player using it's analog outs, into a digitizer to record it into iMovie.
    I am hoping there is a better way to do this. Any ideas?

  • Ripping Home Video DVD's

    I've got a giant stack of Camcorder Videos in crazy formats. Is there an Apple OS X program that lets me rip my personal DVD's into a single video rather than VIDEO & AUDIO TS?

    Hi,
    You may use MPEG STREAMCLIP, it will give you a .mov file of your videos
    The only thing is that these files will be very big in size...
    Hope it helps..
