RIP VAN DISPLAY

ZZZZZZZZZ..... oh.... hi there......Question:
I have a G4 Mirrored super drive and a 17in Apple Display. I purchased these new back in 2002.
When I put this display in sleep mode... it won't wake up. It won't ever wake up! I've screamed at it, shook-it, given it a bottle of NoDoz, and thrown a bucket of water in it's face....and it just lays there.
Only way to get it to wake up, is to turn off the computer, then reboot.
Any answers? Upgrading the OS has never made any difference either.
I am on 10.4.9
Also, the USB ports on the back have on occasion, stopped working; but all I do to correct that -- is turn off the whole system, UNPLUG the Apple Display from the computer, then plug it back in, reboot, and then the ports work fine(but it doesn't fix the sleeping problem).
Thanks for any help!

  • Rip Van Winkle wakes up from DW 3.0

For years I have been doing my funky little web pages for
myself and for a few friends.
All that time, I've been using Dreamweaver 3.0 without a
    problem.
My computer with Dreamweaver 3.0 crashed, so I decided to
download a trial copy of DW CS3.
My downloading DW CS3 is like Rip Van Winkle sleeping 20
years then awakening to a different world.
Rip Van Winkle has an immediate problem. I use a mixture of
CSS style sheets and ordinary HTML sizing (i.e., I designate the
size of the font to be "3" or "4" -- etc.)
With DW 3.0, what rendered in DW 3.0 was close enough to what
rendered in IE and Firefox to be usable (actually it was very
    similar).
But with DW CS3, what renders is all messed up -- but still
renders correctly in IE and DW 3.0. The HTML font-sizes are all out
of whack with the CSS style text lines.
Is there some toggle I can hit (or something!) to make my
pages that rendered correctly in DW 3.0 render correctly in DW CS3?
    Thanks in advance.

  • Display problems dimming/burring

My 17' g5 early 2006 model is almost new out of box and the display burrs and dims changing size slightly in and out -making me dizzy. I hear a clicking noise when this happens sometimes once every few seconds. It randomly stops and starts. Tried many solutions which all failed. I was on phone with apple techs. for several hours ---four calls total. The only local place that works on them here in Gainesville, Fl. is backed up for weeks and I'm going into my third week on waiting list. The other places involve up to 8 hours of driving. Apple Co. has been no help. Really frustrated and feeling ripped off.

display problems dimming/blurring how to fix?

  • RVS4000 2.0.0.3 + CLass A + RIP

    Hello,
    I use a new RVS4000 in router mode to interconnet a Class A segemented with class C networks (10.11.1.0/24, 10.11.2.0/24, ...) with other class C networks (10.21.1.0/24, 10.31.1.0/24, ...)
both WAN and LAN interfaces send wrong 10.0.0.0/8 to connected RIP routers which prevent me to activate SEND RIP feature.
It could be This bug related.
"RIP messages display a netmask for a class-A subnet when a VLAN of RVS4000
is configured as a class-C subnet but with a class A address, such as 10.0.2.1/
    24."
I'm forced to do static routing with all connected routers
Will this bug be fixed ?
    Thank you.

Please contact the small business support center, as the issue could have been fixed in a beta firmware 2.0.1.x.

  • How can I read Olympus SXIF data in Aperture?

I can read the EXIF data in the Olympus View 2 software, but I can't see it in Aperture. Is there any way to do this?

You need to change your screen name to Rip Van Winkle
As I wrote previously Aperture will display what it can display. There are no other commands to access the EXIF data.  Most cameras have something missing or not reported fully. The EXIF data is highly manufacturer and camera dependent and things fall through the cracks.
It is possible over time as updates come out more data will be displayed. You should use the Aperture->Provide Aperture Feedback form to let them know what data is missing from your camera.

  • Sleeping??

I've had an issue with my MBP sleeping and when I come to wake it up, it doesn't respond. It was plugged into AC at the time. I got it back up and running by unplugging and removing battery and then booting up. Please somebody help.
    15" MacBookPro   Mac OS X (10.4.9)

Recently bought a macbook pro, and after the installation of mac os x.4.10 it soon started to slumber, as if it wanted to go emulate Rip van Winkle. I had to force stop the system as the display stayed dark and the fans humming.
After resetting, changing memory, using the terminal to remove the hibernate disk in /var/vm and some other tricks I tried a software solution. And I found that these applications do the trick, at least until now.. The first is iLid, a simple Preference Pane for OS X. It lets you control whether or not your Mac laptop will wake up from sleep when you open the lid.
And there is Wake Assist. It helps fix a stuck-on-wake bug suffered by some Mac users.
Wake Assist helps by providing a couple of automated clicks of the mouse on waking from sleep. These clicks help nudge a stuck Mac to fully wake up.Wake Assist is a daemon process that runs quietly in the background. When the Mac wakes up Wake Assist checks for a user activity; if none is found, a couple of automatic mouse clicks are performed to display and hide the Apple menu.
I have installed both yesterday and the macbook will not open with a dark display (yet). I think this might be the solution.

  • Unable to download Office 2004 11.2.3 update

I keep getting notices from Microsoft that an 11.2.3 update for Office 2004 is available. However, after downloading this patch on my 56K modem twice, at 5 hours a shot and after several broken attempts, when I've then tried to install it on the HD I get an error message that says I "do not have the platform needed to install this program." My OS is 10.3.9, which it should work with.
I don't understand why 11.2.3 wouldn't consider 10.3.9 acceptable. I've looked at my About Word info to see whether, maybe in an alternate universe, I already downloaded and installed Office 11.2.3, but all it says is that I have Word Version 11.2, which I guess could be anything from 11.2.1 to 11.2.3.
    My questions are:
    (a) Can I find out whether I already have 11.2.3 without knowing it? (In which case I think the error message should say, "You already installed this; what are you, Rip Van Winkle?")
    (b) If--as I deeply believe--I never installed 11.2.3, can anyone tell me why it would refuse to install itself on a platform it's supposed to like?
    (c) Do I really need it anyway? I see from other people's posts that Powerpoint seems to develop problems with 11.2.3, and I use only Word, which has been pretty stable in Office 2004 for Mac and rarely freezes or crashes. So maybe I should resist trying to fix what isn't broken? I would be happy not to have a reason to download 11.2.3, except that I'm afraid I may be missing something important. (Like screwing up Powerpoint.)
Thanks very much for any suggestions.
    Powerbook G4   Mac OS X (10.3.9)   15"

The updates are not cumulative. You need to download
and install each update from 11.2.1 thru 11.2.3.
Kappy: I tried downloading and installing 11.2.1, with the plan to download and install the other two if 11.2.1 worked. And the program verified upon completion that the installation was successful. However, when I tried to trash the 11.2.1 installation folder as instructed, I got an error message saying that I "did not have sufficient privileges" for the maneuver, and when I opened Word to see what version of Office 2004 I had now, it just said 11.2, not 11.2.1. So I guess my efforts to keep up with modern technology are doomed after all.
On the other hand, since I'm a home-office user and the only one using the application (i.e., I'm the Administrator, but not on an Exchange), I guess there's no harm in not having the updates. Since the issues the three patches resolve seem to be mainly Exchange issues, I don't really need them. But I do appreciate the helpful information from you and Bob Gold--thanks very much.

  • I received a used iphone in a replacement and I was told it was brand new, Now more issues.

So I bought a iPhone 5s back in October 2013, I had to have it replaced back in June 2014, here it is less then a year with the replacement and I had been having trouble with it ever since receiving it, it would work perfect for them.  The issue I had was the digitizer would stop functioning in the upper left corner, and about a week ago the finger print stopped functioning.  brought it to apple and they would not honor an arrangement they had made with me to exchange if it still had trouble after resetting to defaults because it had been 4 months,  stupid but understandable.  They quoted me $269 for a replacement.
So today I decided to pop the screen off and take a look, first off I did not realize I broke the latches at the top holding the screen down, so I ripped every display cable.  But once I opened it I saw there was the metal clasp holding the fingerprint cable down, but there is a huge gap between the cable and the clasp, so it does not stay plugged in.  But the biggest thing I saw was the remains of a void sticker inside there (picture attached).  When I got it replaced, I asked if the phone was a refurbished replacement and he said no, it was a brand new phone, it is was new there would not be stickers removed inside there.
I know I probably screwed up ripping the cables, but do I have any case here?  I know that the paper work says refurbished products may be used, but I was told they were not and since they were, they were not even refurbished properly.  Any input would be appreciated.

Actually, you no longer have any case whatsoever.  You've opened up the device.  That voids all support for that device from Apple.
And I really, really hate to tell you this, but that sticker you're seeing?  That doesn't mean it's a used device.
And a verbal statement is really irrelevant anyways.  Unless you have documentation that says it was a brand new device, then it's not.
The long and the short of it is this; if you had not tampered with the device and opened it (even if you hadn't damaged the cables, opening it up voids ALL SUPPORT), then you might have a case.  But now (especially that you've posted a picture of the opened device; no way to try to deny that now), you no longer have the $269 option.  Now you'll have to pay full retail price.  Or seek third-party support like Chris said.
    Best of luck.

  • Save Image in ACR 5.6 vs. Open/Save from Photoshop CS4

Apologies in advance if this turns out to be cockpit error. Recently started shooting again, after a long hiatus, and boy there have been some changes over the past few years. I feel like Rip Van Winkle.
Was used to early versions of ACR with CS2 and thought I was doing just fine finding my way around a new PC using ACR 5.6 RC with Photoshop CS4, when I processed my first shoot using the two. Followed my old/usual raw workflow with Photomechanic selects -> Bridge -> batch processing with Photoshop, when I noticed the JPEGs PS was saving from my PS Action didn't reflect adjustments I had set in ACR/Bridge.
The Action was pretty simple, just did an open, a few simple adjustments, profile/mode conversion, and a save as JPEG. I tried running the Action two different ways, once from Bridge and once directly in PS, and got the same result.
Scratching my head (this stuff used to work fine), I opened all the images into ACR from Bridge, clicked Select All, then clicked Save Images, and saved them as JPEGs into a folder. This worked, where each JPEG written reflected the crop, WB, exposure/brightness, contrast/black settings I had made through ACR/Bridge.
Any idea what I've overlooked? I tried this using both 32-bit and 64-bit PS. The PC is running Win7 RTM x64. The camera body is a Canon 7D, which is why I installed ACR 5.6 RC. I'm otherwise really tickled with everything. Nice to see the progress made by everyone in the industry while I was away. Thanks in advance...

    Dr. Powell wrote:

If you are running an action during a Batch operation you need to be sure that either you DON'T record ad Open step and select Suppress File Open and Color Profile Warnings in which case the Camera Raw settings in play for a given image will be processed in or make sure you _DO_ record an open step making sure you select the correct workflow settings (color space, resolution, etc) but without making ANY adjustments while recording the open step and make sure you've selected the Override Action Open Command...
It's confusing until you understand what it is your are or not recording...
When you record a an open step while selecting the Workflow settings and NOT making any image adjustments all you are recording is the workflow settings. Then in Batch you tell the Batch to ignore the Open command and only use the Workflow settings...
Otherwise you don't actually need to record an explicit open step...you won't have any absolute control over what Workflow setting are in play-but since the Workflow settings are sticky you can open an image to double check the settings and click Done and then you've set the Workflow settings manually (not in an action).
The other oddity when recording an open action step in Photoshop is that the actual command to open must come from Photoshop...this may seem simple but it's not. I keep a spare raw file on the desktop so when recording an Open action I can start in Photoshop and turn on recording then drag & drop the raw file onto my Photoshop Icon to make sure Photoshop is opening the image then click to set the Workflow settings and specifically do NOT make any other image adjustment steps (they would also be recorded) and continue with the Open, then whatever other steps you need to add before recording the Save and Close steps (yeah, same tricky deal on the end with the Save As recorded and the Override Action Save As Commands...
If all of the above makes your eye's glaze over (the best time to learn how to do this stuff is NOT when you are under the gun or a deadline) I suggest you try using Image Processor...easier to set up and learn, not nearly as powerful as a Batch Action though...

  • MacBookPro running 10.8.5 fails to wake from sleep or kp???

    Folks:
I installed ML 10.8.5 a couple weeks ago in a separate partition from SL 10.6.8, and more or less things have been OK.  Today, however I'm wondering if 10.8.5 has a "Rip van Winkle" type "glitch" that causes problems with the unit waking from sleep?  Or perhaps there is something else causing a "crash"?  On two different occasions today when I tried to use the computer after it had been asleep for awhile the unit would not respond.  I would then tap on the space bar or click the mouse and nothing would happen.  Checking the power light showed the computer was "on."  Each time I had to hit the power button, the first time just tapping the power button revived and launched the desktop; the second time I had to hold the power button for perhaps 30 to 45 seconds before the computer light went off, and then launched the desktop . . . showing a faded desktop picture with the row of white dots across the bottom as when re-launching from a battery recalibration . . . .  That made me think there had been a "glitch" or kernel episode . . . .  I checked the Console log, the 5:30pm times are the second time this issue happened, checking the sleep indicator light before reviving to write this post the sleep/power light was not "breathing" but was steady.  Any thoughts appreciated, thanks.

Well, the problem seemed to grow, as it moved over and infected my 10.6.8 partition, which led me to think about possible hardware issue; so I spent the night wondering what the heck I had done to create the problem.  There are a number of possible scenarios when setting up "dual boot" situation . . . but, then I remembered that I have been trying to get an rEFInd CD to boot up so that I could test it out . . . and it hasn't been working; holding the C key down just got me to a black screen with a flashing prompt.  I considered that that might have "re-set" something, so this morning I booted a known good Linux Mint DVD . . . using the C key . . . and I launched FF and it was fine, and then I "suspended" the system . . . and the "breathing" sleep light came on--so I figured it wasn't a hardware issue.  So, I restarted into ML . . . earlier this morning had the same "revive from drained battery line of white lights" . . . but after booting the LM disk held the option key, selected ML . . . seems to boot more slowly than SL, but it gave me a desktop . . . and I put it to sleep . . . a few minutes later, clicked the mouse and I'm posting this now.  So, as usual, "pilot error" was involved, it's just for the pilot, when the error happens is the question . . . .  I re-traced my steps and tried to find the logical problem . . . seems to have worked.
Thanks for the interest . . . I'll post back if the problem re-appears.

  • My MacBook Pro won't wake up, how do I wake it?

My computer has been bouncing out of iPhoto- I've had to restart my computer a few times today.  In the past it would sometimes take a long time to wake up- I would press the brightness key or track pad and it would wake up.  Now it is on but I cannot get it to wake with a picture.  Anybody have a suggestion?

Have read all through this thread trying to resolve my Rip Van Winkle problem with my MacBook Pro late 2011 and cannot get to the first stage of having the machine turn on to try the other suggestions.
Machine was on, left alone for a short while, went to sleep and have been unable to awake it, period.  How are you folks getting your machines on to try the other things? Any suggestions as to actually get the machine on?? Am using older G4 machine currently.
Have made an appt with "Genius Bar" for Thurs hoping for a fix.

I can wake it up if I turn on my netbook and try to print and never had problems with the PC that was connected previously.
The printer is connected wireless by a netgear router.
All drivers and firmware are up to date.
Usually turning it off by unplugging the printer and then back on fixes it.
This doesn't happen ALL the time but 90% of the time.  The only time it wouldn't happen was one of the days I actually had a lexmark consultant on the phone that kind of knew what they were talking about.  Any time I've called when it wasn't working the person I'm talking to has no clue.
    Any fixes out there?!?!?!?
    PLEASE HELP!!!!

  • [SOLVED]Questions about e17-svn

I installed e17-svn and e17-extra-svn from commouty repo,it's beautiful...and buggy. It creates several desktop icons for my partitions,i deleted that from Desktop and .e/e/fileman/favorites folder, but they appear again the next time i login.Firefox and thunar freeze many times as well, and the most unacceptable thing is that i can't logout, every time i try logout, the e17 hangs there forever and i have to restart x myself.I use kdm4 as the login manager, and i try slim as well, the problem remain.Anybody knows how to solve those problems? Thanks.

WTF, Something weird going on here.  It used to be #pacman -S e-cvs and you got a perfectly useable e17 desktop.  I just tried to #pacman -S e17-svn and it says no such package or group so there must be some changes goin' on as a #pacman -S e-cvs gets you nowhere now.  Be patient, though--I say to myself
I'll bet pressh is on the job!  Hmmm... I don't recall seeing any announcement about a big change in getting enlightenment in arch.  Maybe I missed something?
Edit:  I guess I did miss something.  Searching the forums brings me this: http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/E17 from a post in 2008-07-03 http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=51202
I'm beginning to feel like Rip Van Winkle
Edit:  I just did a #pacman -Syu on my x86_64 machine and it asked if I wanted to replace e-cvs with e-svn stuff so I did and sofar no probs.  Sorry ashunter, you might have other issues.  I use gdm on my desktop and slim on my laptop and no probs logging in or shutting down here.

  • Post count revisited

I am trying not to let my ego get involved here, but I have over 2500 posts over the past three years, but my current listing shows me with 58. Anyone making any progress on this and why do some people show their 1000's of posts still? I've done some work here that is not being acknowledged.

yes, I would imagine you would, lots of changes!
You are listed as having been on this forum for one year and you show 537 posts.
yes though when it changed Nov 14 i started with 394, (though i had about 640 odd, just made level 3 in Sept, before change) perhaps because you had not been actively posting, maybe all your post had been offline, I do not know.
I don't think this is a trival question as a new user of the forum might give more credence to a person who has a long experience helping people here.
i do not think its trivial either, truth be told, however i do think that links to knowledge based articles need to work.
This link to thread might better explain.
