Ripping a DVD that was recorded in VR format

I've made dozens of DVDs on a Phillips set-top DVD recorder, using DVD+R media. Now, I want to rip them (using Handbrake) so I can watch them on my Apple TV through iTunes. Problem is, Mac won't read the disk. Simply says "You've inserted a blank disk". Ignore or OK are my only choices. I believe the Phillips recorder used VR format. Yes, I finalized the discs when I made them. I also tried making a copy of the original DVD; that didn't help. The disks will play on my Pioneer set-top recorder, and one of my 2 Windows PCs. Problem with ripping them on the PC is that it takes about 3 times longer than on the Mac, and the resulting filesize is about twice as big. Obviously, I want to do this on my Mac! Mac has a Matshita DVD-R UJ-868 drive (factory installed). I would be SO grateful if anybody could help me. I've searched all over the web for help on this, to no avail.

I just pulled out one of my old discs burned on the Philips 985 and made a quick test run on my older PPC Mac G5. If the discs are not being recognized as containing content and they are in fact finalized as you state, then you may have a combination of problems -- a weak burn/LP mode coupled with a possibly dirty lens. If cleaning the Mac optical drive lens does not help to read the discs directly on the Mac and your PC is able to read the discs anyway, my suggestion would be to simply copy the VIDEO_TS folder to an external hard drive attached to your PC. Then connect the external drive to your Mac, open HandBrake, and process your content normally. Since, as you pointed out, the Philips unit does not encrypt the data, the folder should copy without problem assuming the data is not itself corrupt.

Those are the constituent parts of a standard mpeg2 DVD. Storing them is easy: just copy the folder to your hard drive and they will play in DVD player or VLC.
But that format is not intended for editing. To do so:
You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:

Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.

I think I understand now. The DVD has an auto start player (exe) that steps through the video's, html, whatever. Your gonna need windows or you'll be forced to look at the individual pieces seperately. Html's you can open, idx files are subtitles, the video format is avi I'm guessing or maybe wma.
Try this first, get the VLC player from video_lan. It's a great tool to have in your toolbox. It should play the video files at least (including subtitles). VLC can play almost any format.

Beg, borrow or rent another deck, connect the two via Firewire, then playback the original LP recording in one device while recording in SP mode on the other device. Capture the new tape in FCP.

Ummmm, you can't burn a Redbook audio CD at 48. I'm not sure you can burn any kind of valid audio CD at 48. If these are files on a data CD, then yep, it could definitely be a sample rate problem.

Sorry I wasn't clear. I meant that it's possible that the files may have originally been at 48 and when they went to burn a CD, instead of sample rate converting, the 48k files were just read as 44.1 files and burned without converting (which would change the tempo and pitch). Doesn't happen often, but I've seen where headers were ignored by an app and just assumed instead, resulting in wrong playback speed/pitch.
Although from the original post, that may not be what he's asking, the recording may be technically fine but he just wants it slower.

How can I rip a dvd that has not been finalized.

Sprinter 12.20 Not Working Properly When Editing Test Plan That Was Recorded

After using the steps tracker to create a test plan, I am experiencing an error when tring to edit the steps/expected result. It is showing different information before and after clicking into the box. Below are two screenshots. On step 88, you can see that they don't match, when they should. Saving and restarting temporarily solves the issue, but it then reoccurs about every five minutes.

Interestingly enough I had been using the Player 10 SWC from the beginning because I had the intention of using the RTMFP protocol to enable P2P chat when available, so for some reason even using Player 10 I am having no success with this external mic. It is possible I am doing something incorrect in my project configuration, but I don't think that is the case.
When I deploy my app to our target device which runs an embedded Windows OS the audio is properly transmitted when using a 3rd party mic, leading me to believe this is a Flash - Mac issue as stated. I believe I will be able to work around this in the interim, but a long term solution would be extremely helpful as our host platform will likely be variable.
I am a new Flex user, and straight away I've jumped into using the AFCS package. I must say it is incredibly comprehensive and very well implemented. I hope the performance improvements for embedded devices in Player 10.1 will quickly make their way into this library as they are released, or better yet the Player 10 source so we can poke at prod at what's under the hood.

Ripping Home DVD onto Macbook Pro

I have about 6 different 15 minute videos on 2 to 3 DVDs that we recorded and I want to put them onto my macbook pro to then be able to use them in iDVD to make copies for some friends.
