Ripping and Copying DvDs

what is best software (free if possible) to use to rip and copy DvDs?

hi,
burning DVD can be done directly from the finder without any additional software; see the following article;
http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?path=Mac/10.4/en/mh854.html
then, you may need more functionality but then, you need to clarify what's are your needs. if this is for video purpose, I personally like using Roxio Popcorn; http://www.roxio.com/enu/products/popcorn/standard/overview.html
if this doesn't answer your question, try to be more specific on what you need to do.

What you want to do is select the files you want to move then go File>Relocate Masters. Your images will then be referenced to a location you select. Aperture will still continue to manage the images, but the external hard drive must be connected if you want to make adjustments. Aperture will retain Metadata and any adjustment information. Your original images will stay unmodified on your external drive.

Thanks! But when I visit the site recently, I found the program was upgraded. Now it has 2 optimized output formats specially made for iPod 30G and 60G players! Another good news: there was a new discount suite ImTOO DVD to iPod Suitethat contains both the DVD to iPod Converter and iPod Movie Converter. It saves newly $20! Hope this can do some help

  • Idisk and copying DVD's

Folks, what is the best way to make copies of DVD's? I've got one DVD here that I know is only 76 mins long and when I create an image (takes forever) and then try to burn this image to a blank DVD (4.7 G, good for 2 hrs), the computer tells me there is not enouph space on the DVD. Plus, I used the compress option when creating the image.
What is going on here and is there a better way to copy DVDs?

  • I'm trying to sync a video I ripped from a DVD and it won't load into the device

I'm ripping a few DVDs into iTunes. They vids play on I tunes but now will not load onto my tablet, it just gives a notice that says video did not sync, contact iTunes for mor info. Do I have to do another conversion before the tablet is happy? I have a bran new dell, windows 8 and am ripping with Win X DVD ripper.

Since it seems kind of confusing what's going on, I'd recommend downloading DVD Ripper for Windows. The trial allows you all conversions without time limitation. In the preferences, have ATV2 checked off under what you want the movie converted to. Put in the DVD, and hit Compress, not rip. This will rip and convert the file. Then, drop the file into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder. See if that works.

I bought a movie with the digital copy and it gives me option to redeem it with iTunes, but when I type in the redeem code it shows a message saying: " you must insert your digital copy dvd in this computer in order to redeem this code" . The dvd is in. WTH? This is especially with FOX movies, I never have trouble with Universal Picture movies.

Thanks for your reply, but you might have misunderstood it a bit. I'm NOT trying to buy a movie. ****, I'm not even in the actual Apple Store, when this happens I'm in the library not the Store part of iTunes.
To clarify - I have purchased a physical copy of a movie which came with another physical copy which contains the digital copy. The digital copy is on the DVD, all I need is just to transfer this file to my iPod Touch, for example, I'm not trying to download it from the store or repurchase it and it's not any gift code that I've received, the digital copy is on the disc. This is the first time ever that I've purchased something on a disc and I'm not allowed to access it because the disc hasn't been purchased within my country.
So again - I'm not attempting any purchase or download any purchased digital copy - it's on a DVD I own physically so... why is even the region of my Store relevant, the code I enter is (as I assume) just supposed to check if it's a legal genuine copy (which it is, as I've said - there are 6 discs in the pack: 3 movies on 3 Blu-rays and 3 DVD containing these digital copies of them). If I own it, I think that's proof enough that I have the right to use it. I just don't get it. I fully agree with you and understand your point if there was any purchase going on here, but it's not, it's just - I put a disc into my computer and I can't access it

  • Copying and burning dvds

    hi
i am wondering how you copy dvds and then burn them.
i went on a forum and they suggested mac the ripper. It is all above board dvd's, they are training videos that i have to copy for my boss, nothing illegal.
when i used mac the ripper it put the dvd into a folder (a VIDEO_TS folder ) that i cannot open.
burning them i guess i would use idvd, as i have made dvds myself and burnt with that.
i am sorry if i sound a bit stupid but.....so be it!
so the how do i copy a dvd???
    thank you

After you get the Video TS folder on your desktop, you simply drag it to Your choice of either DSK Utility , or Toast and put in a blank DVD-R and click burn.
If you are not familiar with DVD Burning it can get confusing in a hurry at first.
To help you out a little.
Standard DVD's are 4.7 gb in size.
Most Data, and Audio is not a problem.
Most people run into there problem when trying to copy a commercially made DVD that may have 6 or 7 GB on it. Thus it will not fit on a Standard 4.7GB DVD.
Here is where you need a top of the line software to accomplish this task.
    Roxio's Toast 7, or Popcorn.
What it does is read the Video TS folders size and content and then it automatically compresses the content to fit on a 4.7 GB DVD.
All of this is done with a couple of clicks of the mouse.
Using Apple's software to copy is fine through the Disc Utility for Audio, and Data, and some Video, Take note that Apples furnished software is entry level and there are only certain things it is capable of.
    Hope this helps. Don

  • DVD Rip and then burn - video stuttering

I'm trying to rip from a dvd (legal) - so I can put it in Final Cut, add subtitles, and burn back to dvd? But so far, I'm getting video that stutters on my final dvd.
I tried to rip the video from dvd using MPEG Streamclip, then edited it in Final Cut before burning a dvd in DVD Studio. But in the ripped video the picture fades in and out.
Then, when I burn to dvd, the video stutters incredibly on a regular dvd player (but not on the computer's dvd player). Anyone know what's going on here?
    Suggestions?

I just encoded it using compressor. A little bit of stuttering on the dvd (should I apply a de-interlace filter?)
But still have the problem with a constant color change on the video - is there a different program that I should try to rip with rather than MPEG Streamclip?
    Thanks.
