Ripping audio from a .mov

hey anyone know how to rip the audio from a quicktime move file (.mov)?? cheers.

QuickTime Pro allows you to "Extract" (Movie Properties window) a track from any saved file.
You will not be able to extract an audio track from any "Muxed" formats (MPEG 1 or 2 or .swf formats).
This requires either a "real time" recording (Snapz Pro or Wiretap) and other software.
You can also use iTunes software (Mac or PC) to "convert" any saved file to a compression scheme of your liking. It will still be the "lower end" of the audio spectrum because of the compression applied to the source file.
No way to get AAC to convert better than the source formats used.

Try Mixing Down the audio before export.

  • Rip Audio From Final Cut Express

Is it possible to rip audio from an MPEG Video in Final Cut Express and save a copy of JUST the audio file as .mp3? I know you can do this with QT Pro, but I'm going to be getting Final Cut Express down the road and I need to be able to do this. So I will just get FCE now if it can perform this function and not waste money on QT Pro.
    Thanks!

Well, there's all kinds of flavors of 'MPEG Video' out there, knowing what you're using would help.
QuickTime Pro can do this, and it's not a waste of $20 to get it.
You can also use MPEG Streamclip to extract the audio to AIFF, then use iTunes to convert to MP3 if that's what you really want.

  • Ripping audio from a DVD - Any ideas for Macs

    Hi
I found a nice and simple piece of software from www.imtoo.com which can rip the audio out of a DVD and save it as an audio file for import to iPod. For a whole bunhc of reasons I'd rather have just the audio from films and comedy shows than the whole video.
Oddly this was listed in MacWorld, but they don't do an Apple Mac version. I am after a one stop solution if anyone knows of one - guess there must be as the IMTOO product works so elegantly, am sure someone has done this for the Mac.
    Cheers
    Sammy

I am not aware of any tool for the Mac that can rip audio from a DVD-A (audio only) disk.
I am also not aware of any 1 step tool for ripping the audio from ordinary DVD video disks.
The approach I took when I did this involved using MacTheRipper to copy to a hard disk, another tool to extract the audio, and then if I remember correctly, I used QuickTime to save the tracks as individual files (with the correct track lengths are listed on the cover). I was then able to burn the results files to a CD (audio format), and incredibly the resulting CD was recognised by iTunes (and Gracenote CDDB) with the correct tracks names etc. (The DVD was of a concert.)
This as you can tell was not a simple one step operation, it took most of an afternoon trying various tools.

How can you rip audio from a video using Itunes 11.1?  I am using a pc win 8

Possible in iMovie 08 with a lot of tinkering. Easy in iMovie 9 and iMovie 11 with drag and drop.

  • HT4016 How to extract audio from a movie that is already in my project without having to delete and re-import the movie?

    The article is
"How to extract audio from a movie file"
But it only tells you how to extract when you first drag the movie file into the project.  This much is obvious when a dialog presents you with a checkbox asking if you want to "Extract the audio track" ... Duh
    Here was my workflow:
Dragged the movie file into my project
I checked "Extract the audio track"
I shifted the "Movie Start Time"
Extracted audio track did not shift with the movie
I deleted the extracted audio and played the audio directly from the movie
Now, I need the audio extracted again at the current movie position
I knew where this option was in the Logic 9 menus, but I'm having trouble finding it in Logic X
Is this option still available, or has it been removed?

    Solved:
I found the menu option for extracting or re-extracting the movie audio.  BTW, the original article:
Logic Pro 9.1: How to extract audio from a movie file in 64-bit mode
should really also state the menu command for extracting the audio, not just the procedure when first adding the movie to the project.
    Here's the menu command:
    File>Movie>Import Audio from Movie

  • Ripping Audio from a DVD to iTunes

Does anyone know a simple way to rip the audio from a DVD to an mp3 for use in iTunes? I have some stand-up DVD's that i would like to listen to when I want.

You have to extract/demux the audio portion from DVDs using a tool like MPEG Streamclip http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-win.html
As most commercial DVDs come CSS encrypted in this case you have to use a so called Ripper to copy the DVD's content first to your HD.

  • Ripping audio from AVI

    Hi,
I wasn't sure where to post this question. I didn't see a forum that looked apropriate, and since I'm using an iMac G5 I thought this one was as good as any other. So, what I'm after is software that will allow me to extract audio from AVIs, MPGs, etc. Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Andrew

    Hi,
Just wanted to follow up on my original post. I first tried using a freeware AVI spitter called Explicit, then importing the 9-12 minute pieces into iMovie. There was a few problems with this method, though. First, it took around 15 minutes to import one 9-12 minute AVI segment. Second, after it was imported and converted into DV format (the format iMovie uses) it was something like a gig in size. Lastly, the audio, the thing I was after, was completely mangled. So, I downloaded Divx Doctor 2, converted the AVI, and then was able to use Peak (a great audio editing program by BIAS) and was able to extract all the audio and save it as AIFF. I could have actually saved it to any one of several formats, at 16 or 24 bits, for those who aren't familiar with the program. By the way, you can convert more than AVIs with Divx Doctor 2.
Thanks so much for the link! Hopefully this info will help someone else looking for to get samples from movies.

  • Can you add audio from a movie to an imovie video of still images?

Does anyone know how I can add a sound clip from a movie to a video created in imovie?

The easiest way to separate the Video & Audio is to drag the muxed file to the Timeline. The exact position does not matter, but I'd choose a place where you can see the Clip that you will wish the "borrowed" Audio to go with - your "target" Clip. Once on the Timeline, Alt-click the Audio, to unlink it and then drag to an empty Audio Track near your desired target. Alt-click on the remaining Video of your source Clip and delete it.
Now, you do similar, should your "target" Clip have its own Audio, that you will want replaced. Alt-click on that Audio and delete it. Now, I'd turn off Snap and align the "borrowed" Audio to the "target" Video Clip. Once you have it where you want it, turn Snap back on.
The secret is the Alt-click to separate the Audio and the Video. Make sure to use this, especially if you want to delete one stream, as they are still linked. They're muxed, after all. I find this keystroke combo easier than using the Link/Unlink.
Last, if your "borrowed" Audio will fit into the area on the Audio Track, where you deleted the "target" Clip's Audio, you can then just drag your "borrowed" Audio to that Audio Track, or you can leave it where it is. The choice is yours and is just a housekeeping task anyway.
As I do a lot of Track specific work with the Audio Mixer, it is not uncommon for me to have similar looking Audio on different Tracks. With Audio Mixer, you apply Track Keyframes and Effects to the entire Track and not to the Clip. If one does nothing but Clip Effects and Keyframing, this will not matter.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • How do I export ONLY audio from a movie and edit it in garageband?

I can separate the audio from the video just fine, but when I try to export only the clip of audio they make it nearly impossible. It keeps wanting to export the entire movie.
I never had any problems with this with the older versions of iMovie. Do I have to seriously bust out my iBook G4? I'm using version 10.0.2.
    Thanks in advance.

Open the video in QuickTime Player.
Then choose: File --> Export --> Audio Only...
