Ripping DVD with multi episodes

Been using the new Splasm to rip Dvds I own and transer to my 60 ipod. The first episodes on each DVD rip just fine but that is all...
For instance....ripping Deadwood with multiple episodes only gives me the first episode of each....
Can you help?

If you do not have a SuperDrive (DVD-R/RW) then that's what you'll need to buy.
Being able to burn a DVD is contingent on the hardware installed in the computer, not on DiskUtility or other software.
What you have from SystemProfiler matches the ComboDrive (CD Read/Write, DVD Read-only) from mine. A drive capable of writing DVDs would show it in SystemProfiler.

  • What is the best program to Rip DVD with 5.1 audio for Mac Book

I just purchased a Macbook Pro and want to rip DVD's. I want to retain the 5.1 audio tracks. What is the best program for this? Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Sorry, but if you're referring to commercial and hence copy-protected video DVDs, breaking the copy protection, which would be necessary to copy the videos from the DVD and convert them, is illegal in the US (and other countries), so we're not allowed to discuss it here.   Some DVDs and Blu-Ray movies come with a "digital copy" that allows you to download a copy of the movie for use on computers. You might see if any of the DVDs you have come with such a feature.
If these are home movies that you or someone has burned to DVD and hence are not copy-protected, Handbrake (freeware) is one of the more popular converters. I'm not sure how it handles 5.1 audio, though, if it will at all.
    Regards.

    dvdrip-master

Do not use divx codec if you have a p4, there is a bug and another error message.  Xvid is better and it works but divx is set by default.
dvdrip, allows cluster ripping, if you want to rip on in the world, use that.

  • DVD with Multiple Episodes

I have a number of DVDs of TV Series that have multiple episodes on each DVD. The problem is that when I transfer the DVD to iTunes, I am asked to overwrite the existing file. To avoid the problem, I can change the name of the file being uploaded to iTunes by adding a more specific title but iTunes does not recognize any file name change. Consequently, I have 10 videos in iTunes all with the same title even though the name of the source file was renamed before being uploaded. Is there any way to deal with this?

  • How to rip dvd's with newest MacBook Pro?

Hi, what is the best application to rip dvd's (with the latest MacBook Pro)? I want to save them and then edit in iMovie.
I've seen that Handbrake isn't suitable for 10.8.2 anymore.
    Thanks!!

I have seen a couple of posts about this, but they all seem to go in a different direction. The general theme of the problem is Handbrake not working on Mountain Lion but working on Snow Leopard.
Ever since I installed Mountain Lion on an external drive, I basically haven't been able to have Handbrake properly run. Using a disc as a source, it has wavered between stopping early with only about 5-10 minutes encoded to taking the full amount of time but only resulting in a short clip or a couple of short clips.
I think it has only worked once or twice total.
Since I still have Snow Leopard installed on my iMac original drive, I will often go back to that install and test HB and 99.99% of the time, it works without a hitch, thus giving me no other choice to believe it is something with ML or the HB install on ML at least.

  • Rip a DVD with subtitles (owned by me)

    Hi all. The quick background:
My company made a series of films (before i joined them) which was delivered on DVD some time ago and since then some of the original projects have been lost (Don't ask how this was allowed to happen!). Our client has asked if i can supply them with two of the sections from the disc as quicktimes for them to use in a presentation.
I have used Mpeg streamclip to rip one of the sections and the result is perfect. The problem is the second section which has subtitles on it.
How do i rip the file and keep the subtitles?
    Thanks in advance
    GK

If you have an A/D converter or can use your camcorder as such you can use this roundabout method.
    1. Connect DVD player's AV outputs to converter which is connected to Mac.
    2. Open FCP and change Easy Setup to Converter.
    3. Play DVD with subtitles switched on and capture into FCP.
    4. Once in FCP export as a QuickTime Movie.

  • HT1347 I have an mp3 DVD with episodes of Gunsmoke.  iTunes imports them, but does not sort them correctly by date or episode.  One file name is GS 52-04-26 001 Billy the Kid.mp3

I have an mp3 DVD with episodes of Gunsmoke.  iTunes imports them, but does not sort them correctly by date or episode.  One file name is GS 52-04-26 001 Billy the Kid.mp3.  iTunes sorts them by month/day/year.  How can I fix that?

The weird thing is, it worked before. I encoded all the videos previously and had them all listed and didn't encounter this problem, but I noticed I'd forgotten to decomb/detelecine the videos so I deleted everything and re-encoded it all. AFter filling the tags out and setting poster frames again I was thinking of making life easier by just pasting the same artwork for every episode, so I did, but didn't like the results so I deleted it again (I selected every video, used Get Info and pasted the artwork that way).
I think it was after this that the problem started to occur. In any case I've been through every episode and made sure the name, series, episode and episode id fields are all filled in with incremental values and they are. I even made sure the Sort Name field was filled in on every video. But this didn't work either.
So, thinking another restart was needed I deleted every video again. Re-encoded them all, again. Set the tags for every video and poster frame again. Finished it all off nicely, checked cover flow and was highly annoyed to find it was STILL showing the same two pieces of art work for every video as shown in that image I posted.
Ultimately, I wouldn't care so much that cover flow is screwing up like this as I always intended to sort by program anyway so it would only ever display one piece of artwork for an entire series of videos, however where-as when it was working it picked the artwork for the first episode of a series to display, its instead picking one of the latter episodes. I can't seem to find any way of choosing what artwork I want displayed.

  • Hi, im tinkering with mpeg streamclip and its giving me problems because it won't open my ripped dvd files from my desktop. It keeps giving me the same message "no VOB files can be found". Can anyone help me, this doesn't make sense.

hi, im tinkering with mpeg streamclip and its giving me problems because it won't open my ripped dvd files from my desktop. It keeps giving me the same message "no VOB files can be found". Can anyone help me, this doesn't make sense. I also found online that you need Apple Mpeg-2 playback component in order to use mpeg streamclip. Even though I have OS X Lion, should I download the add-on?

You need to convert the VOB files in the TS-Folder of the DVD back to DV which iMovie is designed to handle. For that you need mpegStreamclip:
    http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html
which is free, but you must also have the  Apple mpeg2 plugin :
    http://www.apple.com/quicktime/mpeg2/
(unless you are running Lion in which case see below))
    which is a mere $20.
Another possibility is to use DVDxDV:
    http://www.dvdxdv.com/NewFolderLookSite/Products/DVDxDV.overview.htm
    which costs $25.
For the benefit of others who may read this thread:
Obviously the foregoing only applies to DVDs you have made yourself, or other home-made DVDs that have been given to you. It will NOT work on copy-protected commercial DVDs, which in any case would be illegal.
And from the TOU of these forums:
    Keep within the Law
No material may be submitted that is intended to promote or commit an illegal act.
Do not submit software or descriptions of processes that break or otherwise ‘work around’ digital rights management software or hardware. This includes conversations about ‘ripping’ DVDs or working around FairPlay software used on the iTunes Store.
    If you are running Lion:
    From the MPEG Streamclip homepage
The installer of the MPEG-2 Playback Component may refuse to install the component in Lion. Apple states the component is unnecessary in Lion, however MPEG Streamclip still needs it.
To install the component in Lion, please download MPEG Streamclip 1.9.3b7 beta above; inside the disk image you will find the Utility MPEG2 Component Lion: use it to install the MPEG-2 Playback Component in Lion. The original installer's disk image (QuickTimeMPEG2.dmg) is required.
The current versions of MPEG Streamclip cannot take advantage of the built-in MPEG-2 functionality of Lion. For MPEG-2 files you still need to install the QuickTime MPEG-2 Playback Component, which is not preinstalled in Lion. You don't have to install QuickTime 7.

  • Can you Rip DVD's with a iMac?

    Hello,
New to the Mac world (but not to computers)!!.
Just a quick question in regards to Mac's, iMac's and the ability to rip DVD's.
Basically, can you rip DVD's on a iMac and copy it to a blank DVD? For example, if I wanted to rip "Lord of the Rings" and put it on a DVD, does Mac have software that is able to do this?
I know that you need a DVD decryptor to be able to do this. Is there one available?
Don't get me wrong; I am not about to go out and rip a bunch of DVD's then sell them. this is purely if I wanted to copy a DVD for myself, so I can have a backup (i've had a problem in the past where i've lost DVD's because I travel so much.)
    Much appreciated.

    This works for extracting:
    http://www.mactheripper.org/
You'll need Roxio Popcorn or Toast Titanium 7 for compressing and burning.
This information is given with the understnding that it will not be used to make illegal copies.

  • Ripping Dvd's

I am trying to use my new ipod and i was wondering does Super DVD to Ipod Converter, rip dvds to your computer and then convert them so itunes can use it? Please answer this somebody who know this!!!
      Windows XP

I tries Super DVD-iPod Converter, but with the DVDs I tried (Lion King and Fight Club) it didn't work. As far as I know, these DVDs needed to be Decrypted first. When I tried so, I didn't have sound with Super DVD-iPod Converter.
Cucusoft's converter immediately worked: it ripped the DVD and converted it all at once.
For me it's the best alternative!
Let me suggest you download trials of both programs (just Google both converters and add "free download". You'll find plenty of sites!). When you do so, REMEMBER those are Trial Versions. This implies that texts like "Trial Version" spoil your picture! You have to buy it to remove the texts. However, the trials are good for testing though! (Unless you want to convert complete DVDS in Trial, try to not fully convert the film, but Abort after a couple of minutes. At least Cucusoft's converter provides the opportunity to watch that couple of converted minute!)
    Good luck!

  • Ripping DVD's to iPhone 4.......

I am fairly new to ripping DVD's and was suggested to use Handbrake software.  I figured out Handbrake currently is not compatible with iPhone 4 (looks like some mods need to be done to some folder files to do this).  I recently tried Daniusoft and it's one you have to pay for, but I tried the free trial and it has a stupid watermark on the whole video.  Also the converted file was 1.7Gb.  To me that seems huge for a converted file for my iPhone.  I am hoping to find free software and know that I might forfeit qualty for this.  Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.  Thanks!

Can't really help you with software but I will say that the file size for the movie doesn't sound huge. I just checked the sizes of the digital download movies I have that were "free" with the purchase of Blu-Ray/DVD combo packs and they are in that range. One specific movie (Sherlock Holmes) is 1.79 GB and 128 mins long.

  • Ripping DVDS

Hi, I've a DVD (free of copyrights) which i need to have on my mac. It's the video recording on my graduation cermony which i've taken from a friend.
I'm supposed to copy it, or rip it, and then return it back. I don't know what to do.
    Please help.

I tried mac the ripper and it was a fiasco. From the original download page it didn't download, then I managed to download it from another website but when it can to rip the dvd it collapsed and i had to send several error reports to Apple.
HandBrake worked, but guess what? It ripped only half of the video and the other half, where i'm handed my certificate, was not ripped!
With Burn i couldn't find the feature of how to copy the DVD. Please help.

  • How to rip DVD  to MP3

How to rip DVD to MP3
Are you looking for a program that can help you extract audios from a concert DVD or a movie DVD, and then save them as MP3? If so, Pavtube DVD Ripper would be a nice choice, since it is able to remove protections from all sorts of DVDs, as well as convert and extract DVD files to many other video and audio formats, including MP4, 3GP, AVI, MPG, MPEG-4, FLV, MOV, 3G2, VOB, MP3, FLAC, MKA, OGG, WAV, AC3, M4A, etc., so that you can do whatever you like with the output files. Now I’ll take how to rip DVD to MP3 for instance, and aim to show you how easy it is to achieve this goal via the help of Pavtube DVD Ripper.
    Step 1: Add DVD files
You can load DVD files into this program through “DVD Rom”, “DVD Folder” and “IFO/ISO”.
Step 2: Select MP3 as output format and set destination folder
Click the drop-down list of “Format”, and then check “Common Audio”, after that choose “MP3” as the output format. Meanwhile, if you do not want to use the save path set by default to store the output MP3 files, you can click the folder icon at the end of “Output” to specify your own destination folder. Additionally, if you want to combine all the audios into a single file, you can tick “Merge into one file”.
    Step 3: Adjust audio parameters
Click “Settings” button, then you will enter the interface shown as below, on which it is capable of adjusting audio parameters like codec name, sample rate, bit rate and audio channels. Generally speaking, the default parameters can basically ensure the good output audio quality, but if you want to get a better quality, you can change the figures to be larger. Meanwhile, you should notice that the larger input values, the larger output file size.
    Step 4: Start ripping
As soon as the above mentioned steps are finished, you can click “Convert” button to start ripping DVD files to the format of MP3. Once do it, the following window will show you clearly about the ripping info, such as ripping progress, ripping time, generated file size, etc., even you can choose “Shut down computer after conversion” to do other things while conversion is underway.
After finished, you can find the output MP3 files extracted from your DVD files through clicking on “Open” button.

I am not personally aware of any freeware that does what you ask. However, DVDxDV Pro (check it on VersionTracker) does what you want. The shareware price is $80, and is considered fairly high end. It does rip out audio separately from video. There is a less expensive version of this app available also, $25, but it does not separate the audio.
    good luck

  • Preserve Quality of Ripped DVD to Premiere Pro CS5

    Hi,
My computer decided to throw a tantrum and kill a good chunk of my documentary's source footage - including my documentary's premiere pro project. (What we thought was a genius backup system did not help preserve a backup copy of our files!) Praise be to God, not long before this tragic computer event happened, I burned my film onto DVD with DVD Menu - this was done through Encore.
I'd like to pull my documentary film off the DVD and into Premiere. What is the best way to do this preserving the film's quality?
    This is what I tried:
Ripped the DVD onto my desktop.
Now I have a folder titled VIDEO_TS on my hardrive.
Inside that folder are .vob files.
I pulled the .vob files into Premiere Pro - it worked successfully. But is this the best way to do what I want?
    Set up:
    Windows 7 64bit
    Adobe Production Premium CS5
Thanks in advance for your assistance!
    -Michelle

Also, make a periodic full image backup of your boot drive to a USB hard drive
The product I use is at http://www.terabyteunlimited.com/image-for-linux.htm
Image runs off of a bootable CD via Linux (the Zip you download includes a program to make the bootable CD) and it reads EVERYTHING on the drive, even the hidden registration information, so everything is restored when needed... and you may restore the image to a brand new drive in case of a crash, and not have to re-install anything
