Ripping/Importing CDs imports track names, not actual file

First off, I haven't had this problem but I have had a number of people telling me about this.
I have been told, that for some odd reason, on some computers (windows only so far), when someone tries to rip a CD it takes the track names across into the library, and not the actual file.
Anyway... to keep it short and sweet, here is what I have tried (to no avail):
- re-installed iTunes
- changed all settings to those of a computer that rips the same CD perfectly
- updated ipod (not necessary but anyway)
- checked disk space (80GB free)
- checked memory (512MB RAM)
- changed directory for where to save files
If someone could please give me their 2 cents worth (or 1 cent), Ill be a real happy camper.

hi werbZA!
... i'm afraid this is more in the 1 cent category.
okay, there are a few things worth checking on in this document (we should at least get them off the table):
You can't import or play music from an audio CD in iTunes for Windows

  • I want to import songs frm my Ipod to my itunes library.  Songs were ripped from CDs to the ipod not purchased from itunes store...how can this be done?

I want to import songs frm my Ipod to my itunes library.  Songs were ripped from CDs to the ipod not purchased from itunes store...how can this be done?

You would have to let itunes rip the songs from the cd's, or you would have to copy the music from the computer which ripped cd's.
iTunes does not support transferring music from the ipod unless it was purchased from the store.

  • Why is 'Get track names' not available with my iTunes purchase?

I have just purchased a song from the iTunes store and it has been downloaded into my music folder. All is well so far. However, when i create a playlist and add the new song along with others from my music folder so that i can burn them to a CD the track name is not shown on the purchased track (all the others, yes but not the new one). If i look at 'get info' all of the information is shown but when i try to 'get the track name' i am told that iTunes can only get track names for tracks imported from iTunes...which is exactly where i got it from! What's going wrong. Why can't i get this track name? Any suggestions??? D/.

    Hi,
Thanks very much for your reply. Although it was very good at explaining how the system works it doesn’t really help me to solve the problem.
I rip all my CD’s into iTunes and then make a copy of them to play in my car. It saves getting the originals lost or damaged and it also means that when I play them on my car audio system the track details are displayed; which is good.
With the disc I am trying to burn now most of the tracks were already ripped into iTunes and when interrogated they all display the track name, with the exception of the track I bought via iTunes store yesterday which although it shows the track info it does not show the track names. All I get is this message:
So, is there any other way I can import this track into my library so that when I add it to my playlist and burn to a CD it will show the track name? This is most of what is shown in track info:
I would say that when I look at the track in my music folder on my pc it is showing as an mp3 (MPEG layer 3 audio) file if this helps.
    Thanks, coxmeister

  • Get CD Track Names not working in itunes 10 for mac

Hi there,  been having an annoying problem where iTunes wouldn't grab CD track names that I was trying to import.
I couldn't find a real answer for how fix this,  then found this after extensive digging so I thought I'd repost this thread just incase no one else has:
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/12339739#12339739
    Kay Marczoch's answer totally worked:
"Try deleting "CD Info.cidb" from yourusername/library/preferences  That file is used to store CDDB infos - it might be corrupted  Then reboot".
I didn't even have to reboot and it worked.
    thanks Kay!

My friend inputted his CD info to Gracenotes. It accepted his input. However, I myself can't get this info for his CD. It says in the "help" section of iTunes that it doesn't work for "custom" CDs, you can only use it for commercial CDs. I don't see then the point of submitting track names. If it's an original or even copied commercial CD, I can dupe his CD on my computer and get the tracks info without him having to submit it.

  • Itunes 12 track names not found and user not registered for online use

I recently downloaded itunes 12, and now when I try to import a CD the track names or CD information is not found.... So when I click on options to Get Track Names....it tells me user is not registered for online use... I am running windows 7.
    I have tried un-installing and re-installing - didn't work.
I have tried removing a file and then have it repaired... didn't work.
Any other ideas on how to solve this problem?

You could try deleting the entire %appdata%/Apple Computer folder or look for parallel files/folders in the C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Local or C:\Users\<User>\AppData\LocalLow folders in case a corrupt file is persisting there.
Or it might not be the preference files after all...
For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.

  • Any software to get individual CD track names not contained in original CD?

A friend has given me many CD's he has compiled from his vast original collection. He takes individual songs from different CD's and creates a new CD using iTunes. Is there any software on the market, freeware, shareware or commercial that will get for me via the internet the names of the songs etc.? It sure would save a lot of time and work, not having to enter each name individually.

  • Simple XML import via url (not xml file, rather xml stream)?

Looking to solve this issue: have a web-based application and need to populate form with data in order to generate custom report. Understand I can create an xml file and have the pdf read this file. Want to avoid creation of file and get data directly from url (e.g. https://myserver/list/widgets/format/xml - this request will return the xml). I can do this in Flash by specifying a url as opposed to a flat file when importing data. Does LiveCycle offer the same feature?
    Appreciate your time and responses!

    Richard,
I guess a link or shortcut won't do the trick as it is still pointing to the actual file that is stored in the repository that is enabled in the xmlforms_filter....
What might be worth trying is to create 2 new File System repositories that point to the same File System.
For example: fsr_xml_plain and fsr_xml_fancy point to lets say  Windows: C:/my/test/folder or Unix: /my/test/folder...
Then you add the repository fsr_xml_fancy to the xmlforms_filter and you leave fsr_xml_plain out of it.
Now if you call https://server.url.com:50100/irj/go/km/docs/fsr_xml_fancy/file.xml then you get the formatted xml file
and if you call https://server.url.com:50100/irj/go/km/docs/fsr_xml_plain/file.xml then you get the unformatted plain xlm file
I don't know if above works as I don't have the time to validate it for you at this moment.
    Good Luck,

  • I tune doses not import track name

When I nsert a CD in to the drive, the I tunes only reads track 1, track2,... and so on. How can I solve this problem?

Use CD text. At least it will be on the CD. Still, iTunes won't use it to label the tracks and there's no way around that.  I guess you could try submitting it to Gracenote but I don't know how they have changed things since I last sent in a correction to them many years ago.  As I said, it kind of clutters up their database with everybody submitting a once-off frat. party CD to them, or maybe just submitting junk names for a real CD to mess them about, so they may have clamped down on it.
Franlky, if you're worried about them stealing it, it probably doesn't matter what you do with the CD.  Let's say an online labeling service did accept your labels. I could take your CD, import to iTunes, change all the artist names on it, then re-submit to the online labeling service.  I could burn a new CD, destroy the old copy, then when you came to my office I could claim you somehow stole my CD and put your labels on it.  Since this is all going too far, if you think they are that dishonest you probably don't want them as agents in the first place.

  • ITunes recognises (and plays) CDs, asks if I'd like to import it but when I confirm, error message appears: 'Error occurred while converting the file track name . The file or directory is corrupted and unreadable.'  Fix?

This problem seems to affect all CDs.  I've tried selecting and deselecting the 'error correction' box on the import settings but this makes no difference.  I'm running W7 Home Premium with SP1.  iTunes Version is: 11.1.3.8  Diagnostics confirms all CD/DVD Drive tests are successful.
As I say, iTunes will play the CD without ny problem.  Has anyone experienced this and what's the fix?

Thank you so much! I was in the same situation (iTunes library stored on external hard disk). Strangely, iTunes knew where my music was stored (i.e. if I clicked a song it would link to the library location and play with no problems). But in the "Advanced" settings, the location of my iTunes Library was blank. So I just pointed to the correct location and now everything is working OK! Thanks again.

  • ITunes no longer imports track names and band name

Up until a week ago, when importing a CD into iTunes, the name of the track and band would appear however this no longer happens. Now only the Track # appear and no band name. I know I can edit this manually, but it quite cumbersome. There has to be an easy fix or change that will correct this problem where when I import a CD to my iTunes library the song title and band will appear. Resolutions please? Thank you!
    Compaq   Windows XP

Sorry, it took so long to respond. The computer is connected to the internet via a dedicated DSL line. As I mentioned, up until two weeks ago this was never a problem and really nothing has changed. I tried going under Advanced as you suggested but it came back with "Unable to connect to the CDDB server. The network connection was refused. Make sure you internet connection is active and your network settings are correct, then try again."
    Any other suggestions? Thanks

  • Able to import track names quickly but unable to import music from CD

When I try to import a music CD The tracks are imported quickly but no music is imported. When I try to play the tracks the speaker icon moves rapidly from one song to the next without playing. When I go to my library and try to play a song from the CD it randomly plays a song from my library. I have sucessfully transfered my library from my old XP computer to my new Vista computer and initally had no problems. I believe the problem started when I updated iTunes, now 7.6. I have been on the forum for hours and have seen several other postings with the same problem but no solutions. Please help.

  • Exporting catalog, making changes, then importing catalog does not update file movements and deletions

I export part of my master catalog to a laptop.  I include the image files so I can edit the files at full res.  After managing and editing files I import the catalog back into the master catalog. When importing I check to replace metadata, develop settings and negative files. I have been running some tests to be sure all my work is being captured in the master catalog by this process.  I find that if I change develop settings or photo ratings this is detected when the file is imported and the data in the master catalog is updated properly.  The surprise is that if I delete files or move files among folders in the exported catalog these changes are not detected and these changes are not updated inthe master catalog.  It seems bizarre to me that such changes are not detected but I do not see how to get LR to recognize these changes and include them in the catalog update.  Without this capability I don't see how to use catalogs to move part of a catalog to another computer for edits and file management and then move back to the master catalog.

There are various reasons why Lightroom works this way, but you'll need use pick flags to indicate photos to be deleted, and other metadata like colours or collections.

  • How can I import JPEGs but not Photoshop files from a folder?

I'm wondering if there is a way to have import filtering by file type. Specifically, I want to import a large folder structure of finished images but only the JPEG files, I don't want PSD files added to the catalog.
Is there possibly a script or Plug-in that does this?
I'm using OS X 10.9 at home and Windows 7 at work, with LR 5.5 in both cases.

This is the OP on my home profile, and that ship has already sailed. Both work and home, there are thousands of images together. I could explain why but its not important at this point, and I need it that way for my on-disk organization.
I'm looking at this omission as a huge time-waster. Why import a bunch of files that you are going to immediately turn around and delete?
At home I'm working on transitioning from Aperture, and so far I am not impressed with LR. It does some things better but has a lot of holes. My Aperture catalog is over 155,000 images.
At work, I am dealing with legacy images and have been trying to use Bridge to organize things, that's been slow going as well. I'm trying to decide if the DAM features in Lightroom make it worth importing everything.

  • Log and Transfer Clips are in order from name, not actual time of recording

When I first installed my Final Cut Express HD and went to Log and Transfer, the clips were organized properly (#1 #2 #3 etc.), but one time I accidentally hit the "Name" column at the top, which then put all the clips in order by name (#1 #10 #11). This makes things a lot harder for me when I only need to select certain clips. I've tried re-installing the program, but to no avail. Can someone please help me get this back to the order in which the clips were first recorded?

I found out the problem.  The controls do not work if the AVCHD footage is in SD.  They do appear if footage is in HD.

  • Itunes Jumbling up Song Names and actual Files

    Hi,
i've searched the forum google and everywhere and can't seem to find an answer.
recently my Itunes has been going a bit mad. I've selected a song say:
"Jamiroquai- Virtual Insanity" in the library but it will play a completly different song but keep the name as "Jamiroquai-Virtual Insanity", i know the tracks are named correctly so why would it do this? it only started recently just after i passed the 100,000+ track mark?
ive tried backing up the XML file, deleting the current data and restoring it and that didnt seem to help.. any more ideas?

I don't know what is going on and I have no experience of such a large library but a few suggestions.
Select a problem track but instead of playing it, select Get Info.
Check the tag data, is it OK?
Then check the file location on the summary tab is it pointing at right file?
If iTunes plays the wrong file, it suggests that the library is pointing at the wrong place.
If you suspect that the problem is due to your large library, you could make a smaller test library to see if the problem occurs there.
Close iTunes and drag iTunes library.itl and iTunes Music Library.xml out of the iTunes folder to your desktop. (You can put them back later).
Now open iTunes and an empty library is created.
Try adding a few folders to see if the problem occurs. If not, try adding you whole iTunes music folder, does the problem occur?
To restore things, delete your test library files and copy the library files you dragged to your desktop back into the iTunes folder.
