Ripping in Vista with auto eject

Ok so I am set up with latest version of itunes figured out how to set it to auto rip on insert and auto eject when done (so I notice when it''s done)
only it (iTunes) doesn't notice when it's ejected the CD. It still happily displays the CD under devices, and won't even read a new CD until I fisrt close the try and hit the eject button, then close the tray again.
i.e. the steps to actually rip two CDs
1. insert CD, it gets ripped, then ejected.
2. insert next CD, close tray -- nothing happens
3. hit eject button in iTunes
4. close tray, new CD gets ripped, ejected
5. goto #2 above, repeat until finished.
So what should be a 2 step process is four step one.
I have to assume it's vista related, my computer is fairly new, with not a whole lot of software loaded, just trying to find out if anyone has seen this.

Now there are two of us.
Hope someone can help. I should have been able to rip my disks in a couple days. Three days into it, still on the first box.

  • Is there a way to auto eject the CD after burning it with I-tunes?

looking for a real auto-eject, not having to manually do a cntrl-e....
    thanks Jeff

A similar effect occurs with Mavericks 10.9.5, in that when you see the cursor as a double-arrow
whilst hovering over the window title-bar, it will expand the open window and not just drag it...
Be sure to not grab the window by the upper edge and it should just move. Not sure why these
features were adopted over the older proven ones that were for the most part trouble-free.
Also, a lack of double-arrows in the scroll area of all system & application windows is an issue
for those who use a standard mouse without a touch surface, such as an original USB mouse.

There may or may not be a way to change the window issue where attempts to move or drag it
only expand its presence; most of these new changes are built-in and not adjustable to users.
    Nonetheless...
    Good luck & happy computing!

  • [solved] Music CD auto ejects

I have a problem with my optical tray I don't know if there is a solution to. I am trying to insert a music CD I recently bought so that I can rip it to my harddrive. However, upon inserting it spins for some seconds and then auto-ejects. I don't have any other music CD's lying around to see if it is something specific with this CD, but at least CD-Rs does not auto-eject. I am guessing that this might be some kind of copy-protection kicking in? Can I prevent it somehow?
I have a Macbook dualbooting with OSX. I have KDE installed, and I also checked that I am in the optical group. I tried to search the forums and Google but could not find anyone else with this particular question. Please let me know if I can provide further information.

I tried now another disk which I have already burned, and the same thing happened. Is it the optical tray which is half-way broken perhaps? I can still read and burn CD-R's.
Yes, I could go to another computer, and that is what I did with the particular CD which was very important to me. However, this is the only computer I own myself, so if I then want to rip a CD in the future I have to do it at work. Most of all I am curious of what has happened.

  • Tried to rip a CD with adhesive label - am I doomed?

I've successfully ripped a few hundred CDs on my Mini. Then yesterday, it came to a complete stop while ripping one. When I ejected it, I realized the artwork on top was on a thin sticky label, not printed directly on the CD. A sinking feeling began.
Since then, if I try to rip a CD it accelerates up to "that jet engine noise" (you know what I mean) and starts to rip... then stalls after a few seconds, stalls, stalls, spins down, spins back up and makes a little progress... The track is eventually ripped, but it's at the equivalent of 2x, and the machine tends to freeze while the rip is stalling, so that's no good.
I tried a CD lens cleaner (that friends of mine had used in slot drives without trouble) and it worked great for the next two discs I ripped, then went back to its former failure mode.
The Mini is out of warranty. Have I gunked the drive irrevocably? How expensive a fix would this be? Can iTunes rip from an external CD drive at the same speed as the internal drive (10-20x)?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
It sounds like your sticky-labeled CD has left enough gunk behind that it has damaged the drive. The fact a lens cleaner helps the situation briefly, but the drive then reverts to it's poor state, suggests that further use of the lens cleaner is inadvisable (they can do more harm than good) so either the drive needs to be opened up and cleaned (a job for an approved service provider if you are not feeling very competent at computer repair yourself) or the internal drive ignored, and an external added.
The later option would be my choice in this situation, I think, particularly since good external drives are not expensive and perform rather better and more reliably than the internal slot load models Apple uses.
Have a look at http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/firewire/optical-drives/ for some reasonable options for an external drive which will work with your mini and provide good speed performance.
If you want to replace the internal, that is also possible (http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/mac-mini/superdrive/ for examples) though you would have to add a service cost for the work to be done if you don't feel up to doing it yourself.

  • Itunes auto-ejects my iPod classic immediately after mounting

    greetings,
a very strange problem started today...
    i have a 120Gig iPod classic, software version 2.0.1
i have 3 macs of different:
1 macbook pro about 3 years old with 10.6.6 and iTunes 10.1.2,
1 macbook pro also 3 years old with 10.6.7 which is my work computer, iTunes 10.5,
1 powerbook 1.5Ghz G4 with 10.4.11, iTunes 9.2.1 which is my music server connected to my stereo.
i also have a mountable partition on my iPod to transfer files between computers when needed.
i keep my iPod set to "manual syncing" in iTunes so i can plug it into any computer to play my music when away from homw.
today, when plugging in my iPod to my MBPro with 10.6.6, the iPod showed it was connected to a computer and the iPod mounted on the desktop, like normal. then, i manually started iTunes.  the iPod appeared in iTunes but wouldn't play anything when i tryed to play songs.  the display on my iPod sad "ejecting" and then behaved as though it was no longer connected to my MBPro.  the iPod partition was now unmounted in the finder.  however iTunes still showed the iPod and all the songs on it.  i ejected the iPod in iTunes and tried again.  i watched the iPod screen and saw that after connecting to iTunes it display "syncing" for a moment, then gave an message that it was being ejected...
i repeated this on my powerbook, where it normally syncs to, with the same symptoms.
i tried resetting the iPod, cycle hold switch then hold select and menu until the apple logo appeared.  the iPod reset and i tried again with the same results...
i rebooted my computers, reset the iPod again and continue to get the same behavior on all 3 computers...  clearly an iPod problem...  iTunes indicates the iPod software is up to date...
checking the console logs for iTunes error messages, the only messages that shows up with iTunes is "CGSGetWindowBounds: Null window" repeatedly.  this appears in 1 computer, don't see error messages when connecting the iPod in the other computer....
since i cannot keep my iPod mounted to any computer with any version of iTunes, i'm not sure what to do to fix it since the simple reset option doesn't work.
i searched the iPod discussion forum and didn't see anything that looks like this.
    has anyone seen this before?
any suggestions about what to try next?
    i appreciate any suggestions...
    thanks-

    greetings,
it was obviously a problem with the iPod.  so i reformatted my iPod, reinstalled i iPod software, and then did a fresh sync to iTunes.  it seems to be working fine again for the last week.  since i couldn't mount the iPod without it auto ejecting, i had to put in into "disk mode".  then i could use iTunes to reformat and start over again.
the only thing i did BEFORE erasing the iPod was to compare the changes in my podcasts, then update the changes in iTunes so they would show up as "unplayed" on my iPod after they were copied back to my iPod.  i normally listen to podcasts on my iPod and delete them there, then iTunes syncs those changes back to my computer.

I agree that I should change the LAN domain from .local to something like .internal or whatever.   I've been running with .local for 5 years  on snow leopard server and never had any problems so that was a low priority.
I hope I'm just not seeing some obvious setting in main.cf

  • How do i stop auto eject

How do I prevent my apple from auto ejecting a cd when prompted by a program. This happens when I am playing a game and after beating a certain level it asks me to insert a cinematics cd then the apple ejects the disc. In the game I am able to chose to cancel from watching the cinematic preview but the cd still ejects from the drive. Thanks.

If this happens only with this one game CD then contact the game's developers for help. It's not likely a Mac problem.
If this happens with all CDs then your optical drive may be defective. Contact AppleCare or your local Apple dealer.

  • New Mac Pro, USB devices auto-eject.

External USB storage devices auto eject during read and or write.
Some devices are not recognized by the computer.
USB Hard drives will consistently eject while writing data.
Spent a half day on the phone with Apple support. They gave up.

From what you said it appears that the synthesizer is not compatible. That would be a problem for the synthesizer manufacturer to resolve.

  • Why does my imac auto-eject (reject?) audio CD's?

Why do my audio CD's auto-eject?
The aren't damaged- and they work in my PC laptop but when I put them in my iMac slot they make noise (like the imac is trying to read it), but after 5-10 seconds they auto eject.
These are not re-writeable or anything, but retail CD's with factory recorded audio on them (not home made/burned or anything like that).
    Thanks,
    Michael

try an SMC reset  System Management Controller (SMC).
    Shut down the computer.
    Unplug the computer's power cord.
    Wait fifteen seconds.
    Attach the computer's power cord.
Wait five seconds, then press the power button to turn on the computer.

  • DVD-R Auto-ejects and not burn

I am in the middle of a stack of Mitsui DVD-Rs and now the Pioneer 109 will not burn from an Apple or a Toast disc image, and after several seconds auto-ejects all the remaining discs in my stack. DVDs and CDs of any kind can be read and CDRs can be burned. I have cleaned the lens with a cleaner disc, but no luck. The logic board identifies the burner, so I think that's okay. Can it be a software/firmware issue (corruption?), or is the burner dying??
    any and all comment welcomed
    Thanks

The Pioneer 109 may have outdated firmware, which would be difficult to update on a Mac. There are lots of reports of difficulties when attempting this.
Older firmware, or just ordinary incompatibility could be the reason your DVD-Rs are not burning. If you have not already tried a different brand of media, do that.
Finally, replacement drives are much faster and more reliable, and work with a wider range of blank media; for example, NewEgg ([www.newegg.com]) is selling the new Pioneer DVR-115 for $29.99. It's very easy to replace the drive in your Mac with one of these.
Even easier, there are external firewire optical drives that simply plug and play.

  • Nano 4th gen /auto eject/ desktop icon

Hello. This is driving me crazy: I have been plugging in a 4th gen iPod nano in this Imac (NOT in disk mode) set to auto-eject after syncing AND still getting the icon on the desktop. Today I double-clicked on the ipod icon on the desktop and it disappeared. So my options are to be disk mode (manual eject) or auto-eject but no icon. Will restore help? Trying to solve for young family member. ( The icon shows them it's plugged in, etc.) Any advice appreciated. Snow Leopard, Itunes 9, 4th-gen Ipod Nano. Thanks

i've had something like this happen to me with my 4th gen nano. i just unplug it from the computer (without using the "safely remove hardware" thing), and reset it. If you don't know how to reset the ipod, [check out this article|http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1320]
    hope this helps!!!

  • Vista problem, cant eject Disc 1

Trying to install Vista Business on a 50GB partition of my new iMac (2GB) running 10.5.2.
Installation begins and Windows goes along perfectly and then asks me for disc 2. Problem is, I have no way to eject disc 1. The keyboard eject button does not work, windows offers me no button, and there is of course no way to manually eject.
The Microsoft tells me that Vista comes ONLY in multi disc install and I see that some of you have installed Vista with Bootcamp. HOW ARE YOU DOING IT?
    Thanks

    Natgreg:
    Welcome to the Forums:
That Upgrade version of Windows XP is your problem and therefore you are unable to install XP on your computer. Boot Camp requires a full version of Windows XP/SP2 or any full version of Vista.
You said that your work has over 200 computers and everyone has upgraded to windows XP. Remember that your work probably has Windows based PCs and therefore those people already had an earlier version of windows installed and therefore they could upgrade. On your Mac, you will are installing windows for the first time and therefore will need a FULL RETAIL VERSION (OEM VERSIONS WILL WORK TOO).
Where do you get a full version of windows? You will need to purchase it.

  • Auto eject after sync

Can someone please tell me how to turn off the "auto eject/disconnect" feature in iTunes?  After it performs a sync it "ejects" my iPod so I cannot edit or remove old content or add more purchased items.  I have to constantly plug and unplug my iPod in.

I was having the same issues with my 5G. It would work right after being plugged in and quickly go out of sync. Making it impossible to change settings, or add new playlists. However, I noticed that if I added something to an existing playlist, and then plugged the ipod in, that item got sent to the ipod.
This lead to finding a workaround. If I add an audiobook or two (or just anything that takes a while to sync) to an existing playlist and then plug the ipod in, this keeps the ipod in sync mode long enough for me to check the "Enable disk use" box and hit apply. This does not allow the ipod to go out of sync mode until I eject it from itunes. Then I can add whatever playlists or files I want to.

  • Auto eject TM drive

    Hi to all,
I was wondering, is they a way to automatically eject a TM's drive during log out or shutting down? Maybe a command line using Terminal?
    Thanks

Creating logout hook script?? Gosh... sorry I'm not a script or terminal guy...
Anyone knows how to do the easier way to auto eject a TM drive or am I just being lazy..... =)
You did ask for a terminal command.
A script is merely several terminal commands, one after the other.
Also why would you want to eject the TM drive during shutdown? It automatically gets ejected along with all the other drives during shutdown. You cannot properly shut a computer down without ejecting (dismounting) all HDs first.
Yes, that's what I thought in the 1st place, but my iMac G5 just hangs there on a black screen & it won't shut down until I manually turn off the external drive's switch.
But as soon as I manually dismount/eject the external drive before log out, my iMac shuts down without any problem.
I wonder what's wrong with my iMac, further more if I turn my iMac & external drive ON at the same time, my TM drive hangs & won't do a backup. But if I do the other way round by turning on iMac 1st, then TM drive 2nd. Everything went ok again... I'm so lost with this problem...
Any of you guys have this problem?
    cheers
