Ripping In Windows

I'm on a PC, so I'm downloading from iTunes to my iTunes folder, then burning a cd, and then then ripping the contents of the cd into my Library on Windows Media Player. Seems to work, but one fly in the ointment. One single track in the middle of the cd refuses to rip...any thoughts on a fix...help much appreciated!

Katrina -- Many thanks for your reply...yes, the song plays fine in iTunes from both the Library and Purchased folders...I tried ripping it twice and each time the program goes 31 seconds into the rip in the track, stops, and says "Windows Media Player can't read disk", then it preses on and rips the remaining tracks...since iTunes makes you use a blank disc each time I don't want to keep simply pounding my head against the bricks, but maybe the third time is the charm? Thoughts? JEFF

  • ITunes problem recognizing and ripping CDs - Windows XP

I have two problems, probably related. The first is, iTunes only intermittently recognizes a CD when I insert one, sometimes requiring me to eject and reinsert several times. Sometimes it will suddenly notice the CD when I toggle back to iTunes from another program.
Once I've got the CD visible, I click Import. All goes well if I keep iTunes on top (making me hostage to the import process), or if I toggle away to another program and stay away. But if I return to iTunes in the middle of the rip -- poof! -- the import stops and the CD vanishes as if ejected.
This is iTunes 8 in Windows XP. Anyone know if there's a way to stop this?
    Thanks.

sorry about the delay, Nano Second.
it would be good to get a look at the blue screen information ... but i'm totally in sympathy with the idea of minimising the number of times your PC blue screens.
so let's also set up the PC to generate a minidump for the blue screen. (that way, if we don't get helpful info from the blue screen itself, we can send a copy of the minidump for the crash through to the Apple Engineers for a look. so we only have to "experimentally" blue screen the PC once more before we try fixing the problem.)
To set up your machine to capture a minidump, right click on "My Computer", select "Properties", select the "Advanced" tab, select the "Startup and Recovery" Settings button, select "small memory dump" from the popup. When it crashes, look for the MiniDump file. It's usually in the folder "C:\WINDOWS\Minidump" and is called something like Mini<number>-<number>.dmp.
Find that file and send it as an attachment to this email address.
in the email to Roy, be sure to include the following information:
    - A link to the thread on Apple Discussions where the issue is being discussed
    - The username you are using in the thread
    - The version of iTunes you are using or trying to use
    - the version of Windows you are using (mention service packs)
    - A concise description of the issue you are seeing
    - The exact text of the error message you are seeing

  • ITunes locks up computer when ripping some CDs

I have been building my iTunes library. iTunes rips some CDs with no problem. However, ripping other CDs causes my computer to lock up which requires a hard shut down in order get out of iTunes. The CDs which are a problem with iTunes can be ripped with Windows Media Player and then imported to iTunes but, that makes unnecessary work. Furthermore, I never know which CDs will work with iTunes and which ones won't! I have followed all of the standard "Apple" advise, to included uninstalling and installing the iTunes software a number of times. Nothing helps! Early in 2006, I did not experience this problem. Do you have any ideas?
    Inspiron 5150   Windows XP

Though this is a forum for itunes on Windows, I'm having the same issue on my g4 mini, and installed the 7.0.1 update as it was supposed to address this very problem, among others. No difference at all. I've tried importing as AAC, mp3, with different bit rates, and no change. It will import a few tracks, or most of them, or none of them, and then lock up randomly.
The only way around it that I've found is to manually copy all the AIFF files from the cd to my desktop and then import in to itunes from there, and that works without any problem but then I have to enter all the track titles, etc., manually--inconvenient but nothing more.
Anyone else still having trouble with this? My next step will be to uninstall v7 and install v6, but I'd like to find a solution to this so I can still use the nifty features in v7.

  • Synced music for Windows Media Player

Does anyone know why some Cd's i rip to Windows Media &/or Blackberry Manager  then sync to my Blackberry Curve do not play correctly, skips through songs in about 5 seconds ?

    Hey Lee.
You will need to restore iPod to factory settings (like new again)
To do this use the iPod Updater, availble here:
    http://www.apple.com/ipod/download/
Now when iPod is restored, you will add the songs with iTunes. Only with iTunes. Watch this too:

    Hope that helps.

  • Help needed adding album artwork using Windows Vista

My computer is a PC running Windows Vista. I am missing some album artwork - some artwork from CDs I ripped to Windows Media Player and subsequently transferred to ITunes and my IPod Classic (120GB), and some artwork that is either missing from ITunes or incorrect album artwork. When I drag an album image from ITunes to my album artwork window, it won't copy, nor can I do it from Windows Media Player. Yes, I have enabled automatic download of artwork in ITunes, and yes, I have already read the basic adding album artwork article, and I am not able AT ALL to do any kind of drag and drop.
I also noticed that my ITunes songs is missing album artwork that ITunes has a partial album for, but I have the FULL album (which I transferred from WMP)
    Any suggestions?

You can't copy the artwork from the iTunes Store...
You also won't have any joy if you're trying to add artwork to wav files as they don't support tags.
Use Google, Amazon, Discogs etc. to locate relevant images. Ideally these should be square, 320x320 pixels or above and borderless to give the best results in the various menus. Copy the image from the source, then select all the tracks of the album, use CTRL-I to *Get Info* and paste the image into the artwork box.

  • Windows, any problems??

What do you guys think of using the ipod touch on a windows computer?
My friend is going to get a touch but he uses windows and I use a mac. Have there been any major problems?

Personally I haven't had any problems. I've been working with the iPod touch in a Windows XP Pro environment for three days now. During this period, I've already:
    - Updated my device to v1.1.1.
    - Uploaded 3GB worth of video, also ripped using Windows.
    - Most of the files use Japanese characters, so that works as well.

  • Mac and PC  using the same itunes library?

I have my itunes library located on a NAS hard drive, which I have been accessing from my powerbook. Recently I purchased a Apple TV and was given a Dell desktop. What I would like to know is; is there a way to access one library on both a mac and pc and be able to make changes from either machines? I want the desktop just to run itunes so i don't have to have my laptop open every time i want stream content to the apple tv, but i also want to have be able to view and change my library from my powerbook. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I do exactly this - it's straightforward but the setup will be slow if you have a big library. First point iTunes at the folder on your NAS drive so that anything you rip in Windows will be stored on the NAS drive. Then - this is the slow bit - in iTunes on the Dell, do Add folder to library and browse to the iTunes music folder on the NAS drive and add that. Warning: this takes a long time - I have 7,000-odd tunes and it took - well, at least three hours: I left mine running and went to bed at that point.

  • After iTunes update it won't import a whole CD, only one song at a time.

I just updated iTunes on a Win 7 64 bit system and now can't import an entire CD. Import stops after 1 or 2 songs, and I get error message "Error occurred while converting the file "(song name)". The disk is not available". I can import the entire CD one song at a time, but cannot get the whole disc to import with one command. Already tried repairing the install and a few other suggestions I found online. Nothing has helped. Any suggestions?

For general advice see Troubleshooting issues with iTunes for Windows updates.
The steps in the second box are a guide to removing everything related to iTunes and then rebuilding it which is often a good starting point unless the symptoms indicate a more specific approach. Review the other boxes and the list of support documents further down the page in case one of them applies.
Your library should be unaffected by these steps but there is backup and recovery advice elsewhere in the user tip.
Although not directly matching your symptoms see also TS2308: iTunes for Windows: Optical drive is no longer recognized, or "Disc burner or software not found" alert after install in case anything there is useful.
You could also try ripping with Windows Media Player to see if the issue is specific to iTunes, or perhaps related to the drive itself or to particular discs. It is always possible that your optical drive has started to fail and can no longer seek reliably.

  • Error while importing CD's in ITUNES

I got the the flowing messages while importing cd's to my network disk.
System failed to parse media metadata of file [/volume1/music/iTunes/iTunes Media/Music/Compilations.
In Itune, I changed the setting to the pas you see in the message. For a couple of CD's the import went well, bit after a couple more I see this message in the logbook of my NAS(network assessable storage). Itune resets the pas to the Imac hard drive without asking. Anyone know about this problem and how can you resolve it.
    Please help.
    Regards Frank

Look at the fine print on the CD or on the CDs case to see if there is any mention of it being "Protected" or having DRM (Digital Rights Management) on the CD.
Usually protected CDs will have either there own "Player" software on the CD you have to use to rip the songs to the PC, or you have to use Windows Media player to rip it. Most record companies find it easy on them to make you rip with windows media player since it will protect there songs and roughly 95% of the world has a PC with WMP on it.
If you can use Windows media player to rip the songs, you have to use Windows Media player to burn them to a CD, then use the CD in iTunes to import them to iTunes.

  • Should i open folder and transfer cd file to n200 or whole fold

I used mediasource to rip my cds to computer and ended up in widows explorer with a folder for the cd and inside the folder a file with cd in it.when i ripped using windows media i ended up with just a file with cd in it in explorer. In transfering cds using drag and drop from explorer does it make more sense to open folder first and drag file to player to copy? Will this make playback easier on the n200?

Basically it's up to you. Folders offer some advantage in terms of organisation, and if the player is formatted as FAT you can only have about 30 files and folders in the root of the player's dri've.

  • My iPhone Wish List

Not sure if anybody cares, but here are the things I'd love to see happen with the iPhone. The phone is totally ******* and I really like a lot - I just wish it had the following features:
    1. Unified email in-box instead of completely separate box for each account
    2. The ability to create shortcuts and liberate functions from within the "settings" menu and move them to the main page OR
    3. A software update that puts shortcuts for wifi and bluetooth on the main page - I turn them both on and off constantly (much more frequently than I watch You Tube on my phone, for example) to conserve battery life
    4. Better battery life when wifi and/or bluetooth are activated
    5. Improved performance from the Edge Network. With a wifi connection the thing hums, but with Edge sometimes it won't even completely download email (especially if it has attachments). That is lame.
    6. Let us create our own **** ringtones! It's an iPod, fer chrissakes!
    7. Enable cut and paste functions.
    8. In future versions put a normal headphone jack on the iPhone so connectors made for iPod (especially for car connection to aux jack) will fit in it without that crazy $10 adapter.
There's my wish list! Now, if I close my eyes and hope against hope, or maybe I should just send these to Apple...

I, too, would like to see more out of my $600 iPhone. But I think most of your points are hopeless because:
+1. Unified email in-box instead of completely separate box for each account+
What's the point? Then you'll have less of an idea which message came from where.
+2. The ability to create shortcuts and liberate functions from within the "settings" menu and move them to the main page OR+
+3. A software update that puts shortcuts for wifi and bluetooth on the main page - I turn them both on and off constantly (much more frequently than I watch You Tube on my phone, for example) to conserve battery life+
Point taken, this might not be a horrible feature to have a soft button on the home page for turning on and off all -three- transmitters separately.
+4. Better battery life when wifi and/or bluetooth are activated+
This is entirely dependent on the hardware chips driving those transceivers. As such, you're dreaming.
+5. Improved performance from the Edge Network. With a wifi connection the thing hums, but with Edge sometimes it won't even completely download email (especially if it has attachments). That is lame.+
Welcome to EDGE. It's barely faster than an analog modem. Your 3G iPhone will be on the market in a year or two. Live with it until then.
+6. Let us create our own ** ringtones! It's an iPod, fer chrissakes!+
Oh yay for copyright and political issues. When you want to make a song a ringtone, everybody wants a cut. The song writer, because he wrote the song. The cell provider, because you're a member of their 'network'. And Apple because you should be buying the ringtone from iTMS.
The technical problems behind this lack of funcationality is minimal. The problem is ENTIRELY political. I wish Apple would just do it, but I think they're playing too much CYA to offend the other parties involved.
+7. Enable cut and paste functions.+
I think they simply overlooked this one. Once they settle on something that won't rip off Windows Mobile too bad, they'll implement it.
+8. In future versions put a normal headphone jack on the iPhone so connectors made for iPod (especially for car connection to aux jack) will fit in it without that crazy $10 adapter.+
Aaaaaaaaamen! This is the biggest failure of QA I've ever seen. Even normal iPod headphones won't fit!!!
All that said, I love the iPhone, really! I just want it to be the device we know it really should be.

  • Itunes 10.0 Crash/Freeze when beginning to importing CD

    All,
I recently bought my father an iPod Nano 5th gen. We got about 5 CD's properly imported on iTunes 9 when I was showing him how to import and sync his device. However, soon after I 'cut him loose' he reported a problem with the iTunes freezing and causing trouble for the rest of the computer. I've replicated the symptom and have done an evening of searching with no avail. I upgraded to v10 with the problem persisting. Here is the progression of how to replicate the symptoms...
    1. start computer/itunes
    2. insert cd
    3. click yes when asked "would you like to import this CD"
    4. iTunes begins importing, but freezes on the first song with less than 1/16 completed. iTunes no longer responsive
(5.) Can CtrlAltDel and shut down iTunes, but other functions remain inactive (starting new programs, shutting down, etc... computer needs hard restart)
(6.) Can replicate with 3 other CD's. Stopped trying after this.
(7.) Can successfully rip via Windows Media Player and drop and drag into iTunes. To me, this proves correct working order of CD rom drive and general windows software.
Alternately, iTunes will freeze when simply trying to play off of a CD within 5 seconds of playing the song.
I have tried operating with the "Use error correction when importing CDs" unchecked, yielding no different results.
Please advise, thank you in advance!!!

  • Music player problem after 2.3 update

    Hi all,
I updated my x10i to 2.3.3. After the update most of my music on sd card was not showing up in the music player. Some of them are, but majority is missing. Every piece of music is ripped with Windows Media player and transferred with PC companion. I can play them if I navigate there with file manager and open manually. Music player plays them, but says "unknown". They were all working fine before the update. How to fix this problem?
    BR,
    Antti

Unfortunately this appears to be fairly standard across the board from what I have seen in regards to the .wma file extension. What I would advise to get you around this would be to use the MediaGo software to transfer these files back to the handset so that they are converted to a supported format. I apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

  • Copyright protection won't allow me to add files to itunes

Here's the deal, my sister (who has moved out) owns some cds that were ripped to windows media player a long time ago and now it won't let me add these songs into iTunes. She currently has the cds. Is there anyway to bypass this error and add these songs to iTunes?

In short No, Id say they won't import cuz they was ripped in a WMA protected format from the CD. If thats the case then theres nothing you can to legally that will allow iTUnes to play them

  • Why Can't I Import Track 10 from my Music Library?

I have 350 albums in my computer music library and I can't import any track 10 song from an album to iTunes. The message I get is: "The file 10 <Whatever Song Name>.wma cannot be imported because it does not appear to be a valid exported file." This happens on every track 10 title in my library and on one track 1 title that is 14 minutes long. Help!

I am a PC user, but this may help you??:
I am having the same problem with track 10 on two Springsteen CDs that would not play in my desktop PC (one was a dual dvd, the other a regular CD). So first, to get them to work, I had to find a source (my laptop) that would "see" the CD. Then I ripped to Windows Media, then copied onto an external hard drive, then imported into iTUnes.
Everything went well until track 10 on both (After that, the rest of the tracks imported okay on one CD, and then on the other track 11 had a problem, but the rest ok).I found a posting (see below for the link) and it solved the problem on track 10 on both (basically I changed the track# to another number else in the Properties/ Summary/ Advanced section). However it didn't work for that one track 11. So if anyone has ideas on that, I'd appreciate it. I tried fiddling with all the differnt categories in Summary (track name, album name, etc) and rename the song itself, removing the number, but to no avail. Here is the posting that I found the solution on
