Ripple Delete and Chapter Marker question

Hi All,
If I ripple delete a section of a clip ( and I guess more generically, if one cuts/inserts) are the chapter markers on the timeline kept in sync with the remaining clips. And if not, is there a workaround.
Thanks

What are question answers?
When a community member posts a question as a topic starter, other members can post an answer in reply. Please note that not all replies actually answer the question.
An answer can be just some hints or helpful information to help the poster solve an issue. The originator of the topic can mark such a reply as a "Helpful" post. A small yellow star will appear next to that reply and the person who posted the reply will be awarded 5 points. Here's what a reply marked as being "Helpful" looks like:
If a community member posts a specific answer that provides a solution to the original poster's issue, the originator can mark this reply as a "Solved" post. A large green star will appear next to that reply and the person who posted the reply will be awarded 10 points.
Only the original topic poster has the option to mark replies as either Helpful or Solved or to not mark a reply at all. The originator can also end the discussion by marking the topic as "answered," which displays a green star at the top of the topic page to let everyone know that the topic contains valid helpful information.
Note: Only two replies may be classified as Helpful and only one reply may be classified as Solved in any question topic. Non-question topics do not offer these classifications
This isn't so much about points, but to make the forums useful for searches. If you search for the answer to a question that's been asked a hundred times before, the green stars tell you which answers solve the problem or at least answer the question asked.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 crasing from ripple delete and copy

I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 for several months now and it's been working with next to no problems and I've been very happy with it until today.
As I've neared the end of a recent project, after doing nothing different than usual I went to use ripple delete and every time I try it I now get this error message:

I am, however, still able to move single clips, adjust the length of individual clips and able to watch my project.
I've tried two different computers and restarted one and nothing has changed.
Is there an explanation as to why this is happening? Is there anything I can do to get around this or make it stop?

    Lord Nelson here.
I've reverted back to 5.5.0 as I was experiencing lock-up problems with the BM Intensity Pro.
Unfortunately I haven't found a way of simply uninstalling the update and reverting back to an earlier version.  Win 7 Sytem Restore wouldn't, so I had to uninstall Premiere Pro, apply the Adobe Clean Install utility (or whatever!) and then reinstall PP CS5.5.  Trouble was that it reinstalled the whole suite, not just PP - so I lost all custom workspaces across the suite.
    Grrrrr!

  • When do the Ripple Delete  and/or  Join commands become active?

I have been using Soundtrack Pro for a while, but I have not been able to use the Ripple Delete and Joind commands. Under which conditions do these commands become available? Does the Ripple Delete command work like in FCP? I use ProTools, and I would love Soundtrack to include something like the Shuffle mode, in which removing a section on the Timeline would make the rest of the audio samples on that track move up.
Is this possible? I know this can be done on the audio editor, but sometimes editing to picture requires doing this on the Timeline.
Thanks in advance for the help!

Great tip Simon - but do you not find this a bit irritating - that you have to go through this extra process just to perform a ripple delete?
The other point here, is that if you make two cuts in a clip, and then drag over the timeslice section, even with snapping turned on, it seems easy to me to not pin-point the edit in quite the same way that you do with a simple cut. By dragging over, if you miss the edit point by a fraction, you can end up ripple deleting over the cut you intended to make.
Sadie does all this with so much more ease in my view... a lot quicker when doing very fast editing. I'm surprised that with a 'pro app' tag, apple haven't gone the extra few yards with STP. Doesn't quite cut it (in my view)

  • How to delete a chapter marker?

I'm a newbie to iMove (and to Macs in general).  I inadvertently added a chapter marker to an iMovie project.  How do I get rid of it?  I didn't type any text into it, but still want to get rid of the orange oval thingy.  Right clicking doesn't open anything helpful, and I can't drag it out of the Project.

Select it and then hit the delete key.

  • Rename/Delete "Beginning" Chapter Marker?

In iMovie '11 (9.0.8) is there a way to either rename or delete the "Beginning" chapter marker it automatically places at the start of your project. I want to use chapter markers in my project, but I don't want one called "Beginning".

    Here's what I do:
When creating my chapter markers in Final Cut I do not create the first marker I want. I set my In and Out points to define the movie, and I move to where the second chapter will be and create that (Dance Two <Chapter>Two) and keep going till I'm done. Export as Quicktime Movie
When I bring the movie into iDVD it creates the correct number of chapters, except the Chapter One is called "Beginning" I just change the name in iDVD .. so I delete "Beginning" type over "Dance One" and that is Chapter One. Save the project to maintain the change.
That way I maintain the correct number of chapters and get the naming I require. BTW, DVD Studio Pro does the same thing .. at least the old version that I use

  • Ripple Delete And Move Markers Too?

I'm looking for a way to ripple delete this gap in such a way as to move the chapter markers with it. Is it possible to set the edit line to the beginning of the clips and set the timeline to zero? Seems there used to be a way to do this, but I don't see it.

    lovely!
i just ran into the same need in CS6. is there a possibilty aswell?

  • Chapter Marker Question

Since you can't do chapter markers in iMovie'08 anymore, how do you insert them into iDVD where you want them? I only found the "selection of movie", "advance", "set chapter markers" and there you can give a set interval. Well, that is stupid since I want a chapter marker at the beginning of a new chapter! How is that done now?

They were thinking that the DVD is dead. (which of course is wrong.)
It's almost right. Apple's just a little too early. Online content distribution isn't quite there yet. Going forward, I'm willing to bet that most video will be distributed online (purchases and rentals) once the mess of DRM gets sorted out. Rather than storing video on DVDs, people will just leave them on a network attached hard drive or computer and view them on their Apple TV or similar network aware video device. There will be no need to physically find the DVD that has a particular file on it when you can browse your entire video library (purchased, rented, home-made) on your network.
Music is already following this trend. Lots of people buy music online now, and once DRM is out of the way, many more will follow. There is no need (or desire) to carry around tonnes of CDs. You can have your entire music library on your Mac, iPod, etc. Video is slower to follow because of the higher bandwidth requirements, but it will eventually follow. Kudos to Apple for seeing this trend, but shame on them for trying to coerce us into adopting it before we're ready!

  • Can encore chapter markers auto shift after ripple delete?

I need to break up a 4 hours sequence into two shorter ones to make 2 dvds. However I've already marked all the chapters. I duplicate this long sequence and ripple delete the first half to make the 2nd dvd sequence. However the encore chapter markers didn't move with the ripple delete. Is there a way to attach these markers to certain location of the video clips so I don't have to move them when I change the length of the sequence?
    using premiere and encore cs4

One work-around I can think of is to put a bunch of minute-long dummy video clips on a track and position them on the desired chapter point. These clips would shift along with ripple delete, and I can move the chapter points to line up with these dummy clips quickly.
For the current project I don't plan to ripple delete or change the length anymore, so I manually re-position the chapter points this time, for the last time I hope.
I did switch to dynamic link -- seems to be the only way to get the chapter points into encore, and I'll admit it's an improvement over cs3 where I export an avi file and import that into encore.

  • Export with chapter marker to iDVD

Ok something has slipped from my memory.
I'm trying to create a DVD of my recent project. I created 12 chapter markers with the first being 00:00:15:01 into it. I exported it to Quicktime movie (not conversion) I selected add Audio and Video and include Chapter Markers. I made it not self contained. But no chapters appeared in iDVD? I tried including All Markers and also tried including Studio Pro markers without success.
    Any suggestions?
    John

I've exported a sequence with chapter markers using Quicktime conversion and all the chapter markers show up except for the last one. Looking back at the original sequence in FCE, this last chapter marker is the only one that is a pink marker on the clip rather than a green marker on the timeline. I've tried several times to delete this chapter marker and re-create it. Each time, it reappears as a pink marker tied to the clip. Is there a way to force it into the timeline? The only difference between this chapter marker and the others is this one is located at the beginning of the credits at the end of a movie which were created using the Boris plug-in for a scrolling title. All the others appear correctly in the timeline were tied to normal video clips.
Would the fact that I'm creating a chapter marker in the part of the sequence created using the plug-in cause the marker to behave differently?

  • How do I Stop Ripple Deleting of Clip in V1?

I'm using DSP 4. I have a clip on V1 that I altered in FCP. I want to replace the original clip with the new one. They're the same length. If I delete the clip in DSP the rest of the clips ripple delete and fill in where the clip was. How can I replace a clip in V1 with one of the same length.
    Thanks,
    Frank

If the new file has the same name, you cam just replace the file in the assets and DVDSP must read the new one.
Sometimes you need to make the change with DVDSP closed and be sure to empty the trash after deleting the old one. Are you encoding inside DVDSP or the video file is encoded in Compressor?
    Hope that helps !

  • Swap video but keep chapter marks?

Is it possible to replace the video file in a timeline without losing the Encore chapter marks? I do not mean dynamically linked video from Premiere or AE, but pre-rendered video imported into Encore CS6 and chapter markes created in Encore.
I am having an issue with Encore insisting on transcoding my .264 video file, so I want to replace it with a .m4v file, but I do not want to lose the chapter marks in doing so. It's annoying having to add them over and over again.

    Hi,
I think that the "Replace Asset" function should work for you. Try right clicking on the asset in the project window, and select the new video.
    Good luck

  • Uh oh... are sync locks/ripple delete busted?

What am I missing here? I pre-assembled a timeline by dropping whole, untrimmed clips into tracks V1 and A1 based on timecode references given to me by my client. I then dropped the scratch voiceover track on A2, and began to ripple trim the V1 clips to fit the VO. The sync locks are turned on for V1/A1 and turned off for A2 so that the VO stays put. So far, so good. However, if I happen to leave a space between an outgoing clip and an incoming clip, and right-click in the space to select Ripple Delete, the rather unexpected happens: instead of completely extracting the empty space and sucking in the following clips, only part of the space is extracted and the clips are only moved partially toward the end of the outgoing clip. I can continue to Ripple Delete and the trailing clips move along incrementally until they finally meet up with the preceeding clips, but that's a total speed killer. The Sync Locks are working, I guess, but there seems to be some sort of bug in Ripple Delete, almost like it's pretending that the sync lock is turned on for A2.
    Here's a before shot:
    Here's the after:
Any thoughts about this, or anyone experiencing the same thing? I'm pretty sure that what I'm expecting to happen, should be happening, due to the sync locks.

OK, the forum's not letting me edit my post, so here's some more information:
I think this is definitely a bug. If I delete the two "razored" VO clip pieces that you see right before the CTI in the screenshots, then Ripple Delete works just as it should. If the edits are there, however, it doesn't work. If I add an edit to the VO clip using the Razor or Ctrl+K, then Ripple Delete is grayed out; if I Undo the edit, the Ripple Delete works again.
Anyone else seeing the same quirkiness?

  • Ripple delete is grayed out

it seems interemittant how do I activate it?

Yeah it must be something obvious, as sometimes I can do ripple delete, and sometimes I can't, in the same track.

  • Using FCE 4 to edit mov file, inserted 8 chapter markers by double tap M, enter title, click add chapter marker.  Rendered and half of the chapter markers unrecognized or not functional.  Delete FCE prefs and redo project did not help.  How to fix?

Using FCE 4 to edit mov file.  Added 8 chapter markers by double tap M, enter title, click add chapter marker.  Rendered and 4 of the chapter markers are skipped or not functioning.  Deleting FCE prefs and rebuild project did not solve.  Solution anyone?

  • Ripple and Marking Question

Hello, I have a couple of questions that I am running into as I try to decide weather or not to switch from Avid to FCP. I may have more silly questions like this in the future, but for right now can anybody help me out with the following...
    1. Is there a ripple button anywhere? ie, to toggle ripple on and off for all or just selected tracks.
    2. Is it possible to mark in and out for multiple clips in the timeline at the same time? Shift selecting the clips in the timeline and hitting 'x' doesn't seem to do it.
Thanks in advance for any help,
    Jeff

    1. Is there a ripple button anywhere? ie, to toggle ripple on and off for all or just selected tracks.
Nah, Final Cut insists on keeping whatever clip relations - in terms of placement in the timeline - that you had before your ripple function (extending an Out point, altering speed for a clip, close a gap, etc)
A common workaround is to lock the tracks that you don't what to ripple.
    2. Is it possible to mark in and out for multiple clips in the timeline at the same time? Shift selecting the clips in the timeline and hitting 'x' doesn't seem to do it.
Select your clips, then press Shift-A.
This is also available in the menubar but I don't know where (I don't mess with menus usually and I'm not at my FCP station to check on it).
