Ripple Delete

Why would I get an operation not allowed message when I try to do a ripple delete? There are 4 video tracks I have them all selected and mark and in and an out. Then shift delete and I get the error message. Help.

Are you trying to cut in the middle of a transition?
Is one of the video tracks linked to a locked audio track?
You might also try running the razor blade tool down the entire in and out point on all tracks to check your delete section.

  • Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 crasing from ripple delete and copy

    I've been using Adobe Premiere Pro CS5.5 for several months now and it's been working with next to no problems and I've been very happy with it until today.
    As I've neared the end of a recent project, after doing nothing different than usual I went to use ripple delete and every time I try it I now get this error message:
    Premiere Pro Debug Event
    Premiere Pro has encountered an error.
    [..\..\Src\Sequence\Action\ClipTrackRippleAction.cpp-56]
    Then:
    Sorry, a serious error has occurred that requires Adobe Premiere Pro to shut down. We will attempt to save your current project.

    Then if I try to copy clips or move multiple clips this error message shows up:

    Then:

    I am, however, still able to move single clips, adjust the length of individual clips and able to watch my project.
    I've tried two different computers and restarted one and nothing has changed.
    Is there an explanation as to why this is happening? Is there anything I can do to get around this or make it stop?

    Lord Nelson here.
    I've reverted back to 5.5.0 as I was experiencing lock-up problems with the BM Intensity Pro.
    Unfortunately I haven't found a way of simply uninstalling the update and reverting back to an earlier version.  Win 7 Sytem Restore wouldn't, so I had to uninstall Premiere Pro, apply the Adobe Clean Install utility (or whatever!) and then reinstall PP CS5.5.  Trouble was that it reinstalled the whole suite, not just PP - so I lost all custom workspaces across the suite.
    Grrrrr!

  • When do the Ripple Delete  and/or  Join commands become active?

    I have been using Soundtrack Pro for a while, but I have not been able to use the Ripple Delete and Joind commands. Under which conditions do these commands become available? Does the Ripple Delete command work like in FCP? I use ProTools, and I would love Soundtrack to include something like the Shuffle mode, in which removing a section on the Timeline would make the rest of the audio samples on that track move up.
    Is this possible? I know this can be done on the audio editor, but sometimes editing to picture requires doing this on the Timeline.
    Thanks in advance for the help!

    Great tip Simon - but do you not find this a bit irritating - that you have to go through this extra process just to perform a ripple delete?
    The other point here, is that if you make two cuts in a clip, and then drag over the timeslice section, even with snapping turned on, it seems easy to me to not pin-point the edit in quite the same way that you do with a simple cut. By dragging over, if you miss the edit point by a fraction, you can end up ripple deleting over the cut you intended to make.
    Sadie does all this with so much more ease in my view... a lot quicker when doing very fast editing. I'm surprised that with a 'pro app' tag, apple haven't gone the extra few yards with STP. Doesn't quite cut it (in my view)

  • How to show audio/video from timeline when I've already ripple deleted

    Is there a way to show on a time line info that I've ripple deleted? that is, for example I clipped too much from the first part of my timeline and I want to put some of that back.

    You haven't destroyed anything by the ripple delete. Just move your clip over and extend the part you still want with your mouse. There are shortcut keys as well, but I don't remember them just now. When you highlight your clip, you should see a handle at the end - just extend it. You may have to zoom into the timeline.

  • Ripple delete in to out?

    Okay I can't for the life of me find the keyboard shortcut for this but it must be possible, can someone help me out?
    I just want to ripple delete what I've marked between in and out.

    I'm sure you were the only one that Christian's humour escaped - unless yours escaped me.

  • Dimmed ripple delete in Premiere CS6

    I am having this one interesting issue but I noticed it one project only so far. I double checked everything and also in other projects. The ripple delete option is dimmed (grayed out) and I can`t perform it on timeline in this particular project. The project is very simple, no locked tracks or so, it`s PAL DV standard like every other project I checked and is not grayed out in others. I have no idea what could be the bug. Any suggestions?

    Yes, of course, I was very busy and I just simply forgot that I could actually do that too. Here they are, shots of clean timeline and with right click options

  • How do I Stop Ripple Deleting of Clip in V1?

    I'm using DSP 4. I have a clip on V1 that I altered in FCP. I want to replace the original clip with the new one. They're the same length. If I delete the clip in DSP the rest of the clips ripple delete and fill in where the clip was. How can I replace a clip in V1 with one of the same length.
    Thanks,
    Frank
    Kinnelon, NJ

    If the new file has the same name, you cam just replace the file in the assets and DVDSP must read the new one.
    Sometimes you need to make the change with DVDSP closed and be sure to empty the trash after deleting the old one. Are you encoding inside DVDSP or the video file is encoded in Compressor?
    Hope that helps !

  • How to ripple delete a clip that has been broken out to individual items. (video and dual mono clips)

    I have several hours video with dual mono audio tracks that I want to adjust volume etc descretly.  I know I can "break apart clip items" to adjust each audio channel separately. But, after breaking apart the clip items, is there a way to ripple delete a section of video and both audio tracks at once?  I have tried selecting and deleting but can only delete one "track" at a time. I have assembled them into a compound clip and cut out a selection, but, after a couple of cuts, the I got phantom audio playing way out of sync. I have tried using the blade tool, but, when I make the cut(s), the second audio channel slides up to "track one"... Any help would be appreciated.

    glad that worked out for you. Yes trace is your friend.
    BTW you need to use the array notation for everything and it is generally not such a great idea to use _root -- just in case you later load content into another swf the _root will change.
    So if this were me....
    var sp:ScrollPane=quiltpane
    var myContent:MovieClip=sp.spContentHolder.quilt;
    And then later
    myContent["square"+loopcount];
    Easier to read, easier to type. You can give those different names that are more meaningful for you. Also you will get code hinting since the variables are typed -- you won't get that with the array notation. You could even do something like:
    for(var loopcount=0;i<numSquares;i++){
    var curSquare:MovieClip=myContent["square"+loopcount];
    curSquare._alpha=blah blah
    blah blah blah.

  • Ripple Delete Problems

    I have been training myself on Final Cut Express 4 with the lessons from the Weynand book. I am unable to do ripple deletes. If I use Sequence > Ripple Delete, I delete the selected clip and the gap remains. If I hit Shift-Delete (small delete) nothing happens. I also am unable to remove gaps in the timeline by selecting them and htting delete. What is wrong?

    I don't have version 4, I use 3.5, so this may not be entirely helpful, but if you right-click (command-click) on the gap in the track, one of the options will be to fill with a slug. Then ripple delete the slug, and it should shift to eliminate the gap.
    As for why you're not getting satisfaction from the ripple delete, I'm not sure. Are your cap locks on, sometimes that stops rendering and it might also keep certain actions from taking place. Just a guess.

  • Ripple delete to delete all video and audio tracks?

    i have some p2 / .mxf footage in a 720p timeline. i set my in and out point then i ripple delete to get rid of the footage in this area, but it only deletes v1 and a1 and leaves a2-4 untouched. how can i get ripple delete to delete every track that has something in it?
    similar to how in fcp you can set an in and out and then in one step do shift delete and it kills everything.
    thanks

  • Can encore chapter markers auto shift after ripple delete?

    I need to break up a 4 hours sequence into two shorter ones to make 2 dvds. However I've already marked all the chapters. I duplicate this long sequence and ripple delete the first half to make the 2nd dvd sequence. However the encore chapter markers didn't move with the ripple delete. Is there a way to attach these markers to certain location of the video clips so I don't have to move them when I change the length of the sequence?
    using premiere and encore cs4

    One work-around I can think of is to put a bunch of minute-long dummy video clips on a track and position them on the desired chapter point. These clips would shift along with ripple delete, and I can move the chapter points to line up with these dummy clips quickly.
    For the current project I don't plan to ripple delete or change the length anymore, so I manually re-position the chapter points this time, for the last time I hope.
    I did switch to dynamic link -- seems to be the only way to get the chapter points into encore, and I'll admit it's an improvement over cs3 where I export an avi file and import that into encore.

  • How can i ripple delete the movie with chapters included?

    Hi,
    I like to remove certain movieparts by the razor tool or ripple delete. However, the 50 chapters I created don't move together with the moviepart. Any way I can leave out movieparts and all the chapters follow the ripple delete command?
    Any feedback on this would be great :)

    Chapters are associated with the timeline, not clips.
    You'll have to do this by hand.

  • Ripple delete broken? - Serious issue

    SO ive spent the last 2 weeks finalising a project up in preparation for mastering, and yesterday right before i exported it i dropped in a 2 sec. black video at the start of the timeline and then rippled everything back into place.
    Now, im half in this mess because i didnt check, and im half in this mess because something simple that SHOULD work every time DOESNT work.
    The end result after the ripple delete is that every single one of my transitions and audio crossfades disappeared from my 27 minute project (and there were a lot)
    From a brief browse of the internet it appears this problem has existed since PPRO1.5 and nothings been done about it.
    Seriously guys, you all get paid a ton of money to write the software, if something as simple as Ripple Delete is broken and can f**k my project if im not careful then REMOVE IT, Before some other poor soul accidentally loses 2 weeks work and looks like an idiot when they cant present the master to their client on time.
    Im off to spend the rest of my day putting disolves back in my project, i suggest you (adobe) spend yours and fix this ridiculous bug, lest you lose your market share to apples final cut.

    to be honest i wouldnt have a clue how it has the same issue
    i guess youd have to ask how premier deleted all of my transitions in the first place then we might be closer to an answer
    id love to know if this is an issue that can be avoided in the future, if theres someone out there thats experienced the same problem
    the previous workaround i found didnt help me at all so ive had to resort to manually putting back all of the transitions
    and, craig ill blame the tools if the tools are crap
    if i was hammering nails and the hammer magically removed all the nails from the wall while i was out getting lunch then there would clearly be an issue with the hammer, no?

  • Uh oh... are sync locks/ripple delete busted?

    What am I missing here? I pre-assembled a timeline by dropping whole, untrimmed clips into tracks V1 and A1 based on timecode references given to me by my client. I then dropped the scratch voiceover track on A2, and began to ripple trim the V1 clips to fit the VO. The sync locks are turned on for V1/A1 and turned off for A2 so that the VO stays put. So far, so good. However, if I happen to leave a space between an outgoing clip and an incoming clip, and right-click in the space to select Ripple Delete, the rather unexpected happens: instead of completely extracting the empty space and sucking in the following clips, only part of the space is extracted and the clips are only moved partially toward the end of the outgoing clip. I can continue to Ripple Delete and the trailing clips move along incrementally until they finally meet up with the preceeding clips, but that's a total speed killer. The Sync Locks are working, I guess, but there seems to be some sort of bug in Ripple Delete, almost like it's pretending that the sync lock is turned on for A2.
    Here's a before shot:
    Here's the after:
    Any thoughts about this, or anyone experiencing the same thing? I'm pretty sure that what I'm expecting to happen, should be happening, due to the sync locks.

    OK, the forum's not letting me edit my post, so here's some more information:
    I think this is definitely a bug. If I delete the two "razored" VO clip pieces that you see right before the CTI in the screenshots, then Ripple Delete works just as it should. If the edits are there, however, it doesn't work. If I add an edit to the VO clip using the Razor or Ctrl+K, then Ripple Delete is grayed out; if I Undo the edit, the Ripple Delete works again.
    Anyone else seeing the same quirkiness?

  • Ripple delete is grayed out

    it seems interemittant how do I activate it?

    Yeah it must be something obvious, as sometimes I can do ripple delete, and sometimes I can't, in the same track.
