Rippling effect on DVD playback

So I edited my movie with Final Cut Express 3.5 and exported it to a .mov file at the highest compression settings (Photo JPEG, max quality, 30fps, 720x480 etc) and the movie looks flawless. I then burn it using iDVD and I get this rippling effect whenever there is motion on playback. It's kind of hard to explain. I've tried several other compression settings so I'm pretty sure it's not the way I'm exporting it. Can anyone help?

Hello moogs,
from FCE you should choose Export as > Quicktime Movie > Current Settings. Make sure you check "Make Movie self-contained". Using the "Quicktime conversion" option is not recommended - check the FCE/FCP board for more info on this.
Another option is to export your movie to camera, then capture with iMovie - that is if your movie isn't longer than 60 min.
hope this helps

  • DVD Playback problem with H/w accel on Ti4200

    Hello folks,
I have a problem with DVD playback using WinDVD Platinum on my MSI 128Mb GF4 Ti4200 (MS-8700). When I play a DVD with hardware acceleration enabled I get a sort of ghosting or delayed flash photography effect similar to that which gives headlights trails. This doesn't occur with the Detonator 40.72 drivers
or MSI 41.07 drivers but occurs with
the NVidia 41.09s, 43.00s and now 43.45 drivers under WinXP SP1. The problem only occurs with hardware acceleration enabled and has happened with both DX8.1 and 9.0. I didn't have this problem with the 41.09s under Win2k SP3.
Does anyone else have this problem or know of a solution.
    Thanks,
    Morpheus
    System Specs:
    Athlon XP 2000+
    512MB DDR Ram
    Asus A7V333-R
    Soundblaster Audigy Player
    Realtek 8139 based NIC
    Win XP SP1
    DirectX 9.0

Sound is fine its just the picture that has the problem but I have narrowed it down further by downloading WinDVD Tweaker. If I disable DxVA but leave hardware decode and colour selected the problem isn't present. Therefore I suspect something has corrupted my DxVA   drivers however as I originally had 8.1 installed and then installed 9.0 in an attempt to fix this I don't think a reinstall of DX will solve the problem.
    Any ideas.

  • DVD Playback flickers

Since upgrading to 10.5 on my iMac Intel 2.0Ghz, DVD playback (at least of certain DVDs) seems to flicker - in both the DVD Player and Front row. It is almost as if the wrong frames overlap or something like that - there are strange 'ghosting' effects as characters move.
Very hard to describe, but very annoying. Is anyone else finding the same thing?
Message was edited by: Nicholas Cole

Yes. I have found the same to be true on my brand new 8 core 2.8 ghz. It must be a DVD Player issue because my old G$ played DVD's flawlessly. I hope a patch comes soon.

  • Rolling title flicker in PE11 DVD playback

Hi. I'm a mostly successful user of PE11 for Mac (graduated unceremoniously from PE10). This question is about flickering despite the flicker filter being fully deployed. It seems this phenomenon is harder to suppress in PE11 than in 10?
Specifically... some JPEG and TIFF stills retain considerable flicker even on high anti-flicker setting. Some of these are 600 dpi+.  Should the dimensions of stills be a certain value?  If so, what?
A soft flicker along horizontal lines seems hard to suppress in video also. SD from Canon camcorder, 24 fps, transferred as mp4s, and dragged as such into the timeline. The flicker does not appear pre- or post-render but appears on late-model flatscreen TV when played back on DVD.  Could this be a DVD burn problem or even a TV problem?
Rolling titles created within PE11 appear to be flicker-filterable, but the flicker seems scarcely reduced on DVD playback (white titles, plain font, reasonable slow speed, abt 40 pitch).
Preset: NTSC, 16:9 (can provide more if needed)
I saw a similar post by a PC user from 2012 but the thread apparently died before it was resolved.
    Thanks a ton in advance!!
    Ric

    Ric
I am strictly an Elements Windows user, so I would ask some of the following questions from that perspective as I view your Premiere Elements Mac situation.
    a. Does your Premiere Elements have an Anti-Flicker slider (0 to 1.0) in
version 10: Properties Palette/Motion Panel expanded
version 11: Applied Effects/Motion Panel expanded
If so, have you used it for what you are calling flicker?
    b. Are your photos all from cameras? Are any freeze frames from video? If the latter, De-interlace may be in order.
    c. I have not run into rolling titles that filter so please describe how you are creating these rolling titles...Add Image, duration of title, font style, font size. How are you telling the different between the rolling title flickering versus what is below it in the tracks flickering? Or is there nothing below it?
    d. Something to look into
The flicker does not appear pre- or post-render but appears on late-model flatscreen TV when played back on DVD.  Could this be a DVD burn problem or even a TV problem?
If you play back a store purchased movie in DVD-VIDEO format on this TV, do you see this flicker?
    Just some thoughts for now.

  • DVD playback issue with Windows Media Player

    Hi,
This isn't an Encore specific question, rather, a DVD playback one. Has anyone had issue playing their replicated DVDs in Windows Media Player? I truly believe it's the media player, not the DVD.  When we put a DVD in the drive and try to open it in WMP, it jumps right to a video, or jumps directly to the last place we were in a video.... it's not defaulting to the main menu.
Has anyone experienced this? Is it a programming glitch on my DVD? I feel like it's a WMP issue, as it's only happening on certain computers.
    thanks.

WMP has never been a good player for DVD's. At some point in the past, much of that functionality was disabled my MS, in hopes to reduce piracy. For some versions, no burned DVD would even play, though replicated/pressed DVD's were supposed to play fine.
I use CyberLink's PowerDVD and it is fine, even with my burned DVD's. The free MediaPlayer Classic HC plays my discs well too, with full menuing.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • Screen display is blurry or ripple effect when scrolling

I have a 15 inch 2.53 Pro and when I am in Safari the screen has a horizontal ripple effect across the screen when I am scrolling. This is slightly worse when I use the vertical scroll bar vs. two-finger scrolling. The overall effect is that the screen is slightly blurry and hard on the eyes to read until the scrolling is stopped. This is a new machine and I have just installed Word suite for students. Any suggestions? I have an iMac that is a few years old and this does not happen on it. Thanks.
    Message was edited by:

Mine too have this on my new MBP ( September 2009).
It's more evident in Safari, but show also in finder while scrolling. It is not related to font antialiasing because enlarging page text in Safari (cmd +) the blurry effect is still there.
I'm very disappointed of lcd screen quality, too much fatigue to eyes.
Could be considered a screen hardware defect?

  • Satellite Pro L450D - Slight ripple effect on external monitor

I am hoping someone can help me. Have just bought a new Satellite Pro L450D and also bought a separate lcd screen (Viewsonic) to use with the laptop.
When using the lcd screen there is a slight ripple effect across the background when you look at the screen which is not nice on the eyes. Its not the screen that has a problem as I have tried it on other pcs/laptops and its fine. Have also tried another screen on the laptop and the same problem occurs. However, this problem does not occur of the laptop screen itself.
Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this problem.
    Thank you
    Sam

    Hi
It seems that the native resolution of this screen is 1920 x 1080.
I use the same resolution on my external wide screen monitor.
But I have connected the external screen to my notebook using the DVI cable.
I tried a HDMI cable but the picture on the external screen was not clear usign1920 x 1080. I have no idea why.
Anyway I have tried the external monitors DVI port and the picture was perfect!
Seems your monitor supports only RGB analog port.
In order to view real HD videos, picture you would need an HDMI or DVI port.
Of course its possible to use an RGB analog port as well, but there are differences in picture quality.

  • DVD playback: screen goes black in full-screen mode

Hi. Having problems with DVD playback on 1 Ghz Powerbook G4 12 ". When trying to view in full-screen (or even sometimes in maximum) mode, screen simply goes black. Sound still works, but no visuals. As soon as I revert back to Normal size, visuals play fine.
Any ideas ? This is a problem which has developed rather than being with the machine since I bought it. Just for the record, I have 1.25 GB RAM installed and am running 10.4.5.

  • Ripple effect in Safari browser when scrolling pages

When scrolling through a web page in safari using my new iMac Core Duo 17" there is a "ripple" effect in the middle of the page I'm scrolling through. This happens when I use the mouse to drag the scroll bar on Safari. Happens no matter what web page I'm on. This didn't happen on my iMac G5.
    Any else have this problem?

The threads I saw on this are locked... I had no problems with anything UNTIL the 10.4.5. update - now I have the Safari "ripple effect" on almost every web page. I have to select / highlight the "rippled" portion of the page in order to view it properly...Wonder why this happened to my machine after the update? The update seems to have fixed this problem for others...

  • DVD playback blurry with Kaffeine/Xine

    Hi guys,
I wanted to watch my first DVD under Linux yesterday and I noticed that the image quality is really, really bad compared to watching the same DVD under Windows with PowerDVD.
DVD playback in Kaffeine with Xine engine is really blurry. Does anybody know what the reason could be? There's a lot of options for xine engine parameters in Kaffeine, but I don't have a clue about them. Any tipps appreciated.
I've also tried kmplayer, but the image there has small black horizontal lines in it, which looks really weird. I thinks that's called interlaced, right? I'm a total video noob. ^^
    TIA,

  • DVD Playback Error Problems.

    Hi,
When I put in a DVD a initialation error pops up saying Player requires a newer version of DVD Playback frame work
[-70103]. How do I fix this? Thanks.

I would suggest running a system software update.
Keep in mind that it is recommended to back up your important files and data before doing so.
The option to do so should be in your Apple menu.

  • Dvd-playback is terrible

got a new mac mini dual core .. hooked it up to my toshiba 30" tv .. works fine .. BUT: dvd-playback in frontrow and dvd-player and quicktime isn't like butter, isn't like dvd-playback from my 30 euro dvd-player .. it's terrible! it trembles, it stops, sound an picture aren't simultaneously. i tried it with 10 dvds .. all the same.
so it's useless. i will send it back to apple.
    12 PB G4   Mac OS X (10.4.2)

Indeed, resolution does not really matter in your case, as you do not seem to be trying to playback HD video, just normal DVDs. BVut that's not the problem. No Mini, would it be the original 1.25 Ghz with 256 MB of RAM will playback DVDs fine. Your Mini's behavior is not normal, and shows that there is a problem with it. It is not a problem with Dual-Core Minis, or even with the integrated graphics, it is a problem with your Mini. It could be that the optical drive is faulty, or a thousand other things, but your Mini is definitely capable of performing better than it does now. What I mean is that is needs some troubleshooting, or maybe even repair, but that once it gets fixed, DVDs will play fine.
Of course, you can take it back to Apple if you want (it's been 6 days since your original post, so if your really intend to do so, you'd better do it fairly soon). In the meantime you could give us more information about your Mini and the issues you're experiencing (expecially regarding what you meant by DVD playback in QuickTime - see my other post) so that we can try to help you and make your Mini as fast as it ought to be ...

  • Dvd playback is slow

i have noticed that dvd playback is slow . i use vlc and kaffeine.if the dvd files are on hdd the playback is again slow.i have nvidia 630m optimus

    Hi
If this delay appears only playing the movies and audio using the CD/DVD drive then you should check this short workaround:
    1) Access the device manager
    2) Expand the IDE ATA/ATAPI option
    3) go to Primary IDE channel -> Properties -> Advanced settings
    4) here you should check if DMA if available was chosen
If its not set to DMA if available then remove the Primary IDE channel from the device list and reboot the notebook.
After the notebook has booted again, check the single point again and check if DMA if available appears again

  • DVD Playback Quality

My DVD playback (made with DVDSP & Compressor) looks Good on a 27" TV monitor, but when I play it on my 15" Powerbook, many of the images look soft. Why is this? Is there anything that can be done? It seems to contradict the logic of "smaller image=better resolution."
    Thanks.

A TV monitor is interlaced whereas a computer monitor is pixel based. A dvd is bound to look good on a TV monitor as the DVD is interlaced as well. NTSC resolution is 720x480. Your computer monitor may have a reolution way above that. Hence the image has to be scaled and hence the softness. Try viewing it without zooming in and you will be quite happy with what you see.
