  • Jam Packs and "Garageband Instruments" when reinstalling Logic?

What's the proper procedure when it comes to Jam Packs and 3rd party Apple Loops libraries when reinstalling Logic and OS X?
I'm keeping my Apple Loops on a separate drive and know that I can just drag them to the Loop Browser after reinstalling Logic. However, by doing so, I don't think I'll be getting the "Garageband Instruments" that are installed with the Jam Packs and some 3rd party Apple Loops libraries. Is that correct? If so, what's the best way to deal with this? Always installing all Apple Loops from the disks or perhaps saving a folder (which one?) with the Garageband Instruments before re-installing OS X?
When I last installed Logic, and told the installer to install the Jam Packs on an external drive, they were still installed on the system drive! Does anyone know why? Now what's the best way to move the Apple Loops? What I've done in the past is installing them to their default location, and then creating an alias in Home:Library:Audio:Apple Loops folder that points to the new location on the external drive. Is that the way to go or is another way better?
Any input or help would be greatly appreciated.

Jam packs consist of two types of content. Loop content will go to where you choose to install it (an external drive if you wish). Instrument content has to go to the GB library, for a number of reasons, and the GB library will be on your system disk under Application Support/Garageband.
So backup your GB library in addition to your Logic related stuff.
It is possible to move much (but not all) of the heavy Instrument content to an external drive too, but there are gotchas with this.

  • Hi. I've changed my hard drive on my macbook pro and wanted to reinstall logic pro but although I took the serial number from the "about" box it rejects it when I try to reinstall. It was an upgrade to Logic 8 originally. What can I do? Urgent!

Hello. I have installed a new hard drive on my Macbook Pro with OSX Tiger. I tried to reinstall Logic 8 Pro but it refuses the serial number when I try to install it. I took the serial number from the "About" box when Logic was still installed but no good. The software was originally an upgrade, and I don't think I have the disks for the previous version. What do I do? This is important because I only use the computer for music. Thank you.

There's actually an even simpler solution that doesn't include buying a new version of Logic.  He can use his original version easily.  Of course, that depends if the OP knows how to effectively use his computer though...

  • I am trying to reinstall Logic Studio 7 and I cannot find the serial number. It's suppose to be in one of the installation booklets. I'm not sure which one. Could you help me?

I am trying to reinstall Logic Studio that i bought back in 2008, and I cannot find the serial number. I think I barely remember running into this problem before with this application. When i use the installation disc it tells me that the serial number is located in one of the installation booklets, and it doesn't explain to me which one. Can you help me?
    Thank You!

    Hello Steven,
    Check out this article:

  • I purchased a powermac pro and it came with logic Pro 9 (but with out the additional suite of programs that comes with). How can I reregister or reinstall Logic Pro 9 to get those features?

I could really use some insight into this please also how many gigs of RAM should my power mac have it only has two right now and logic tends to glitch up majorly.

  • Reinstall Logic after Archive and Install?

Since updating to 10.4.10, I have been plagued with frequent lockups and kernel panics. Yes, it could be a hardware issue, but I've run the hardware test and even stripped down the machine to clean out all the dust and check for poorly seated components, and the problem persists. And it started happening the very day I updated to 10.4.10... it's too much of a coincidence.
Anyway - if I do and archive and install to take me back to 10.4.9, do I need to reinstall Logic from scratch, or can I copy relevant parts across from my old system folder? Similarly, do I need to reinstall my third party plugs (I have lots), or can I just copy over the components/plug-ins directory? Anyone done this before?
    Thanks!

Best way for me was to make a complete backup with SuperDuper or DiskUtility on a FireWire disk, reinstall and use the Migration Assistent.

  • Do I need to reinstall Logic to get my loops back?

OK, so I don't know how I did it, but apparently I deleted all my Apple Loops.
A long while back I was looking around for free loops, and as far as I can tell, when I downloaded them I must have tossed all the old loops from Logic and Garageband. I didn't notice this until now because I don't use loops much.
So if I want the Apple Loops back do I have to reinstall, or can I get them 'a la carte' from the DVD? I don't want to even put the DVD in if it means I'm going to lose everything I have there now. (channel strips, preferences, etc.)
    thanks,
    Jim

Based on the fact that I have NONE of the factory loops left I don't think this is what I did. I can't locate certain loops that I know were there with Spotlight, (for instance the Motown drum loops); this leads me to believe that they were put in the Trash. Of course I have emptied the Trash about three or four times a week since I did this many months ago.
What happens if I reinstall Logic? Should I go through and save all of the files that are there now, and then put them back in the right spots later? This seems like a severe pain in the butt, as well as almost guaranteeing a screwup.
    thanks,
    Jim

Yea I am. I deleted Logic Pro 9 and moved the App to the Trashcan like normal. Then when I go to install it, it says its already Installed. When I do this with other apps; it works fine, the install thing comes back up like it should once you have deleted the app

I'm trying to reinstall Logic Studio on a new computer after the first computer died. Previously installed it in 2009

    Keep getting invalid serial number?
Is it to do with the fact that it had been previously installed on my old computer?

    Hi
There should be no need to re-install Logic 8 (unless you think you'll need it later): all you should need is the 8 Serial Number when you install the 9 upgrade.
If you do need Logic 8 for any reason, you'll need to make disk images of all the installer discs and then use Pacifist to run the install process.

  • Trying to reinstall logic pro and serial number is coming up invalid

I had to reformat my hard drive and I'm trying to reinstall logic pro 9 but the serial munger is coming up as invalid.

If you bought the upgrade DVD version of Logic Studio 2.0  originally..  (LP8 to LP9) then read the dialog boxes carefully as it will ask you to enter the LP8 Full serial as well as the LP9 upgrade serial....
Otherwise, if you are sure you are entering the Full version serial of LP9 correctly.... (Its easy to mistake zeros for O's for example)

  • Reinstalling Logic

I currently have Logic Studio installed on my PowerMac and on my MacBook Pro. On the PowerMac the core audio driver seems to be fouled up as a result of installing Pro Tools LE and trying to use an Mbox 2 as an audio interface. I'm done with Pro Tools for now and just want to get back to using Logic and Garageband, but uninstalling Pro Tools and getting a M-Audio Firewire 1814 has not helped - there is still an audio and/or midi driver conflict that prevents the audio programs from running at all. Assuming I have inadvertently fouled things up beyond repair, I want to start over on the PowerMac and do a clean install of Leopard. I want to be sure that I will be able to reinstall Logic as well. At present I have used my two permitted installations - I am worried that the software will conclude that I am trying for a third. Can anyone tell me if I can de-authorize the machine before I wipe the drive, or if I even need to worry about this?

John, you don't need to worry about this. Just reinstall Leopard, and Logic will allow you to reinstall without any issues. You aren't violating the License, and the program itself doesn't keep track of how many times it's installed, so it will have no idea that you're 'trying for a third,' as you say.
    Good Luck!

If you still have the receipt or other proof of purchase, you can ask Apple to send you the serial. Otherwise, bad luck mate.. Good news is, you can now buy Logic Pro 9 from App Store for just 199 USD

  • How to uninstall Logic Pro 8 and Reinstall Logic Pro 7.2?

For numerous reasons I'd like to uninstall Logic Pro 8 and return to Logic Pro 7, the reasons for which I'd rather not discuss, as I'd like to focus on the reinstallation task.
Apple states that Logic Pro 7 still functions, but this is not entirely correct. Since many instruments were replaced, the complex 50-track songs that I painstakingly mixed on pure LP7 (prior to the upgrade) now sound completely different in LP7 post-LP8 install (as well as LP8 as you can imagine). It seems that the levels are actually different on some of the EXS and other instruments. Yes, Apple says they are richer and better, but I really don't care. I am in the middle of a CD and need to return to the state I was in prior to the upgrade.
Ultimately I'd like to reinstall Logic Pro 7 and/or its content in order to get all of my original instruments back.
Does anyone have a procedure for this? Should I uninstall Logic Pro 8 and then perform a complete reinstall of Logic Pro 7 following Apple's procedure? Or should I simply use Pacifist to replace the content files that were replaced? Will any of my preferences (plug-in settings) be lost during a reinstall? Should the rest of Logic Studio be uninstalled as well?
    Thanks so much in advance.
P.S. I'm just looking for a procedure and do not wish to discuss the reasons, which you'll find all over the forums.

Regarding copying the settings, these should all be in my personal user folder, correct? My plugin settings should all reside here as I understand. Would ANY customized settings reside anywhere OTHER than my user folder? *Yes, everything should live here, but it never hurts to snoop around the other folders just in case.*
I had modified some EXS instrument settings, but did not import new ones.
Where would the personal EXS settings exist - in my user folders or elsewhere? *All exs are stored Library / Application Support / Logic or GarageBand. The audio files for instrument should be stored there as well. You will need to copy and save both the instrument file and the associated audio files*.
If I simply modified an EXS instrument within a song, my understanding is that would be a property of the song itself, correct? *Yes, if you did not save the exs instrument as new instrument, it settings are stored with the song.*
    Also,
Which folders am I deleting when I "delete both versions of Logic"? *You can delete ANY and all folders associated with them. Delete them out of the Apps folder, utilities, and Application support*.
And how would I delete the new Logic 8 content - where does it reside? *The Library. Not in front of my mac so sorry I can't be more specific.*
I just spoke to Apple and they recommended an "Erase and Restore" of the entire system, and a reinstall of Logic 7 in order to get me back to where I was - do you agree? *Yes, that is the preferred method but only if you are willing or in a position to start from scratch i.e re-installing all 3rd party apps, hardware drivers ect. Remember to back up all your important files.*
    Thanks!
