RMA Question: Zen Xtra 6

My 60Gb Zen Xtra's USB connector broke and sank inside the unit so I sent it in for repair. RMA status shows that it was received on 0-7-05 and shows the following additional information:
<SPAN class=textblacksm>Part Name: ASSY,TAUV+60G(Zen Xtra)
<SPAN class=textblacksm><SPAN class=textblacksm>Serial Number: (My Zen's serial #)

<SPAN class=textblacksm><SPAN class=textblacksm><SPAN class=textblacksm><SPAN class=textblacksm>What does this mean?

It's probably the case that they've not tested it yet or haven't updated the page. You need to allow two weeks and a little bit more, so around 3 weeks, before chasing them up.
Ordinarily they send a replacement player anyway so once yours is confirmed faulty they will send the new player.

       - Inspect the dock connector on the iPod for bent or missing contacts, foreign material, corroded contacts, broken, missing or cracked plastic.
    - Connect overnitht to a charging source then:

    - Try another cable

  • Zen Xtra Media Explorer questions..H

I have a Zen Xtra mp3 player, and as of right now I use the Zen Xtra Media Explorer to import media and rip cds and what not. The question I have is, why I cant put folders into other folders. Sometimes the folder of a cd wont go into the folder of the artist which has other cds. I want to make everythin neater, and combine folders so its all artist folders containin the folders of the cds. On my mp3 player it always comes up right and organized. Its just in the 'organize media' option that its like that. And yes all the ID tags and all of that are the same. I dont know what to do, of if i need another program or somethin. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!

Hey guys, I am seriously considering buying a Creative Zen Xtra, but I had one question: Does the Xtra play Mp3 VBR's? I have a lot of these, and I want to make sure they are compatible. Thanks, cya.

Yes, all Creative's players play VBR files.

  • Frozen Zen Xtra - Questions re: Rescue M

I've got a 40 gb Zen Xtra that's about nine months old. Purchased in the U.S. so the warranty is over. Anyway, it got a little bit wet yesterday and is now freezing when I try to start it. I've hit the reset and now it goes into Rescue Mode when I turn it on. I've got two questions.
When I select Clean Up I'm given the option for "Disk Cleanup will be performed. Continue?". I click the check mark, but then nothing happens. How do I know if the cleanup is being performed? Is it supposed to let me know that it's currently running? I waited over half an hour and nothing happened.
I've tried rebooting a few times and it just brings me back to Rescue Mode.
When I click "Reload OS", I get the "OS will be erased. Upload it via USB. Continue?". I click the check mark and I get the Harddisk Problem icon. Does "Upload it via USB" mean that I have to have the player connected to my computer?
I guess my last resort is to "Format All" but I really don't want to have to re-load 40 gbs worth of mp3s organized in playlists. Of course, there's a good chance that the whole player is shot. Argh.

I would double check this. It was around the time of the Xtra that the warranties increased to year (3 months parts and labour, followed by 9 months parts only).

I believe it will give a scanning bar, and a percentage completion. Normally after you reboot it will then rebuild the library also. So the fact that you're getting nothing is a worry...

Yes, you erase the firmware from the player itself, connect it to the PC, then run the firmware install from the PC.
The hard disk problem error is another concern. This suggests something is awry with the player.
Whenever a device like this gets wet it's a good idea to immediately remove the battery and leave it somewhere warm and dry for several days.

  • Questions regarding the Zen Xtra 60GG HDD Playe

I am thinking about getting a HDD mp3 player. So far, Creative Zen Xtra 60GB and iAudio M3 are my final two choices. Creative is long known for its sound related product so I thought it should have good sounds quality even though I have not yet try any of its players. iAudio, in the other hand, I have tried before and the bass is simply amazing even with some crappy headphone. iAudio seemed to be nice for its long lasting battery (the actual use is approx 0 hrs) and its slim size. However, Zen Xtra seemed to be a good choice as well for its price (which is the most important thing anyway... ) as well as the large capacity since I will use this as a portable HDD. The following are just some questions that I think only the actual owner can answer:
. How long is the actual battery life for this player?
    2. Does this player require the Creative software or driver to be installed in order for it to be connected with computer and transfer files, or it is trully a plug-n-play?
    3. Does it have a relati'vely strong bass?
Thank you very much for answer my questions~~~If there are some better mp3 player that would suit my need, please let met know as well. I am open to suggestions.

. For the Xtra it's around 2 hours, but this is benchmarked using 4 minute 28 kbit/s MP3 files. If you have higher bit-rate files, use WMAs etc. the battery life will be reduced accordingly.
    2. Yes, it needs both drivers and software. A firmware release is purported to be coming which will allow driverless access, but only with Windows XP, and of course there's no 00% guarantee it will be released.
    3. The bass enhancement via the EQ is anecdotally not good. If you have heaphones with good bass response this is about as much as you can do.

  • Zen Xtra Bookmarking question

I was listening to an audio book, which consists of a number of mp3 files, on the Zen Xtra. I was into the 4th file, and decided to quit for the day. So I used the bookmark feature to set a bookmark at the place I stopped.. about 5 minutes into the track.
When I returned to the player later, I chose 'go to bookmark' and was surprised to find it went to the 5 minute mark in the FIRST mp3 file of the book, instead of the 4th file where I left off.
Is this working as designed, or a bug, or did I not use the bookmark correctly?

    SSR wrote:
Nope it's not pointless. The excellent thing about the Xtra and other players is you can set a bookmark for every track on the player. So it's a trade-off between one feature or another.
The alternati've is that when you've finished listening to the book you shutdown the player while it is playing. When it starts up next time it should continue from where you were.
Well.. yes and no... again, what is the point of having a bookmark in numerous tracks? For the most part, I would imagine, people use DAPs for listening to audio tracks.. ie, music tracks. So, quite frankly, it really is not too important if or where you place a bookmark in a music track. In fact, I would venture to guess the 99% of people using a DAP to listen to music, do not ever use the bookmark feature.
Where the bookmark is really needed is for long speech tracks (or audio books), so that if the user has to stop part way in, he can place a bookmark and resume at that place at a later time. As many audio books are made up of numerous mp3 tracks, it would be beneficial to place a bookmark that actually kept track of both the track and location within that track.
Think of a bookmark in a real book you are reading.. the book has many chapters, but the reader only places one bookmark where he stopped reading.
Your alternati've solution does have merit.. only if I do not listen to some other music tracks and then try to return to my audio book.

  • Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra Question...Please help me!!

Has anyone ever gotten the rescue mode screen version .3 on their Jukebox Zen Xtra? If so, what do I do to save all my files on it's Thank You so much in advance...

If you're getting rescue mode then chances are there's a problem with the hard disk, which also means that it's unlikely you'll be able to recover your tracks. It's vital to keep a backup of your player if the tracks are important to you.
However, you can try the disk cleanup option in rescue mode to see if this provokes any response from the player.

  • Zen xtra 30gb battery issue and question about headpho

frist thing is that my zen xtra 30gb is having a minor problem concerning its battery. when i charge it, the meter doesnt fill up, however when i unplug it, the correct amout on the power meter is there. what can i do about this.
second, im supposed to be getting the sony fontopia ex7 within the next few weeks, what would be the best recommendation for eq settings.
if anyone can help, it would be gladly appreciated.

Whenever you get strange behaviour run a disk cleanup. To run a Disk Cleanup you need to access the Rescue Mode. To access the Rescue Mode hold down the play button and KEEP it held down, press the tiny reset switch once, and KEEP the play button held down until the player boots into the Rescue Mode. Choose Disk Cleanup from the menu. Note: Disk cleanup should not remove your tracks. It searches through the disk for files and rebuilds the index, and can be useful for correcting any strange behaviour.
If that doesn't help, you might also want to download and install the latest firmware update from Nomadworld.com downloads. Make sure to follow the instructions on the download page about how to upgrade.
If that doesn't help, then flatten the battery through normal use and recharge it fully before using it again (a full recharge takes at most about 4 hours). Do this a couple of times. Sometimes the indicators get "uneducated" and this is supposed to re-educate them.

  • Some "Now Playing" questions from a former Zen XTRA user

    Hello all...
I'm new to iPod, as my Creative Zen XTRA just had hard drive failure and I replaced it with a new 5.5G iPod. Anyway, in general iPod is very nice, but a couple of things that I liked about the Zen seem to be missing from the Now Playing screen on iPod.
    1 - Scrolling tag information
It seems like only the song title will scroll when the title is too big to fit on the screen. However, I really need the album title to scroll as well. The Zen did so, but I cannot find any setting to make the album title scroll on iPod.
2 - Maintaining position when connecting
For some reason, the current position is lost when syncing to a computer. Is there any way to have it remember what it was doing and have it pick back up right there? Right now I'm in the middle of a 4065 song playlist and it's really annoying that I have to try and re-find the song I left off each night. The Zen never lost its current state. Also, position within the song would be nice, but I can tolerate just the song.
Anyway, those are really the only two things that bug me about the switch. But for me, those are significant. Is there a way to fix those?
    Thank you!
    5.5G 30GB   Windows XP

    No, no.

  • Zen Xtra Headphone J

This problem is kind of similar to Osiris' problem but I will continue anyway. My Zen Xtra will now not play sound out of either headphone when I plug it in. If I press really hard and wiggle it, some sound might come out of the headphones. This is not a problem with my headphones. The headphone jack seems very loose and this concerns me. Is there anything I can do, or has my mp3 players life come to an end?

OK, so Creative now has a MAJOR fan. I took everyone's advice. Called the number, avoided the warranty question and got through to someone in the service centre. He was so helpful and straightaway told me that Creative would replace the unit, despite being six months past its warranty. Although I think that's the right thing for Creative to do given the widespread occurance of this problem, I really was expecting the worst. Most companies these days seem to see goodwill and warranty obligations as albatrosses around their neck. For Creative to offer me a replacement without any stress or fuss is really remarkable in this day and age. True to their word, they emailed me my RMA details within 24 hours (as promised) so I was able to send off my faulty unit this morning.
Thanks to SSR and Catherina for all your help with this. I'm very grateful, and couldn't be happier with the service I've received from Creative. Needless to say, I'll be spreading the word about what a great company Creative is.
    Cheers

  • No driver found - Nomad Jukebox Zen Xtra - WinXP

I have used my Zen Xtra for over 2 years now, with the same PC I am currently having problems with. I recently had to do a complete reinstall of Windows (note that I have done at least 2 other complete reinstalls during the life of my Zen Xtra, with no problems). Windows Device Managers sees the NOMAD Jukebox Zen Xtra, but with the yellow question mark and exclamation point. Each attempt at driver installation results in the same problem. The driver ("JB3MV2_PCWDRV_US__30_03.EXE") installs completely, I'm told to reconnect my device so the driver can take effect. When I do, the device is still marked in Device Manager with exclamation point and yellow question mark, and Windows continues to ask if it can find and install the driver. I have told it not to (knowing that I just installed Creative's own driver), with no success, and other times let Windows try to install the driver (hoping it would find the Creative driver that was just installed). No luck. I have even done another complete reinstall of Windows, and tried to install the driver before any other program or hardware installations into my system. No luck. Note that there are no hardware changes between now and when I have done other complete Windows reinstallations. It just no longer accepts the Creative driver. I have also tried to install the driver in safe mode, with the same results. I have also completely removed the Zen Xtra (showing hidden devices in the Device Manager), and tried to reinstall. Firmware version of Zen Xtra was upgraded over a year ago to 2.0.03.
    Specifics:
    Windows XP Pro SP2
    38GB free hard dri've space
    Zen Xtra firmware version: 2.0.03

I have the same problem. But when i try to installl it it says he is missing an .nfo file.
I removed WMP and reinstalled WM0 because is crap.
    I have Windows XP SP2
I have the newst firmware on it.
Can somebody help me with this because it's annoying not to put any new music on your mp3 player.
I never experienced this before even after formatting my HD.
Almost the same problem as fritzm but not completely because het gets an different error.
I have installed the CD but that doesnt work either.
I have installed the software from the website but that didnt help because he doesnt recognize my player.
    Please help!!

  • How can I use my Zen Xtra like a flash memory

Hello, I want to know how can I use my MP3 player like a flash memory.
I have one and if I conect it with other computers I can't transfer documents and with a flash memory I conect it in all the computers with Windows XP and all of they detect the flash memory and they can transfer documents.
With my Zen Xtra I connect it and the computer detects it but I can't transfer anything because the computer doesn't have the software.
My question is.. Do I have to install the software in all the computers that I use ? or there are other forms to conects PC and MP3 Player? ( I want to transfer documents like text, image, etc)

But some MP3 players do that, why this one can't be connected with all the computers ?

  • Problems w/ Zen Xtra 3

    hello everyone!!!
i'm having trouble with my Zen Xtra... i opened Creative MediaSource Organizer to transfer my mp3's to the Zen Xtra from my Music Library... and it wouldn't let me do it, there is a msg about an error, it would say, "Error: Unable to create file. Restart player and try again." my mp3's are ok, they are not corrupted or anything, it plays into my computer... i restarted the player and its still has same result...
another problem is, i have like 000+ mp3 file stored on the Zen Xtra and i dont know what happened, but i lost everything. i lost every mp3 file... the thing is, i still have my playlist but there's no music stored on it, its all gone... this problem happened before i cant transfer mp3's in the player...
i even reset the player but it still has the same problem, it didnt solved it...
hope u guys could help me.... thank you...

I have a similar problem with my Zen Xtra 40GB, however I did not lose all of my music. I did lose all but one of my playlists however the mp3 files that were on those playlists are still in my music library. I also get the same error message "Error: Unable to create file. Restart player and try again." Is there ANY other way to get around this besides cleaning off my player and losing all of my music? I recently had to clean off my hard dri've and lost 60 gigs worth of files. I don't want to lose another 20 gigs (my player is only half full) of songs. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated. Sorry if I didn't follow the correct procedure by asking a different question than originally posted. I wasn't sure how this works so if need be I'll start a new thread with my question.
