I was checking over my RMA status and, for the first time, I noticed there there are some things I don't understand on the page.
My first to players are listed as:
ASSY,CREATIVE ZEN TOUCH BUL (20GB)
but now my new one that just shipped is:
FG,CREATIVE ZEN TOUCH 20G CLI EF
Does anyone have any idea what ASSY, BUL, FG, and CLI EF mean?

No idea what that means. Creative ought to make this frontend for the customer a bit more user friendly.

[P6N SLI Platinum] black screen NO BOOT after D-bracket replug [RMA-SOLVED]

I tried to check the forum old posts before trying to write that new one, but could not find any really related totally adequate posts so far (or i missed them, sorry if so, then -?). I could already find very useful informations on first aid usual 'rebooting' procedures to follow with minimum new boot configurations, d-bracket new LED signals etc. But so far no luck, all same, nothing better, nothing cured here for the stuation here. ,(( Also excuse my english if not perfect, i am not english either. ,(

All was working perfectly great during 5 days.. the P6N SLI platinum install went GREAT initially (as normal, not a first pc built, all normally happening, so far so good, etc).... all hardwares compatible together at first (dedicated ATX 'full' 8x8 pins connector too for the cpu only for ex -all working perfect at first try. quick tensions 5V/12V under msi dual core control tool perfect too etc), was great easy going/ great strong ultra-stability feeling on the hardware side.. i was just now concentrating on the software side (no special BIOS tweaks even attempted so far, all on basics-normal e6600/ddr2 auto-settings, apart at the end ddr2 quick test -when problem occured- on 450(900?)Mhz at 2.1V, far far easy under its possible specs max anyway.. and had been working perfect for 3 days with that little ddr2 boost try -no time for special bios further tweakings now, etc), reinstalling and transfering/reorganizing slowly my necessary files/hds/softwares from old to new setup, no oc, nothing special tempted (i was planning oc, new cpu more suited fan/silver6 etc only for the end..), LAN file sharing setup done, Realtek audio setup test done, etc ; installation had been so far one of the quickest and problem free ever... explaining maybe also my fatal lack of cautioun for just (too much) 3 sec in the end after 5/- days of perfect working new ring going on.. ,((( :
At first, i also tried to immediately install the D-Bracket too to check possible hardware install problems -very useful feature i of course thought too..and wanted to try too, "in case of"..- (installing it from quick reading of the printed manual..with no colour pic coding inside..and quick error coming from there thereafter with an initial mismatch usb/jbd1 inverted plugs connections.. *both* having the exact same pins numbers and dispositions, beeing side by side on mainboard layout.. and so able to connect both headers indifferently.. so i did not see it immediately (( .. and no way to see it otherwise as such, anyway.. ,( ), just to be sure all was ok. I noticed that LED were of course, never lightning (not normal).. but as EVERYTHING else was working fine (GLAN, sound, etc etc).. i did not bother more than that -- error checking not necessary.
Till that fatal clumsy day i wanted suddenly to.. check the D-bracket too. ((((
All was working well, XP pro opened for hours as usual etc..
i had not yet totally finished to install the motherboard in the pc-case (always on desk, free in sight..)... so i could always see the connections on it. ... and i noticed that ... the colour headers codes were NOT matching (usb=yellow..).. i had just stupidly initially badly connected the D-Bracket jdb1/usb adjacent plugs (inverting them), so... And still, all had ever worked perfect.. except the D-Bracket, of course, was sending back no lights then, obviously.. so i did the fatal error.. confident all was stable enough and strong if even that initial plug error had had no consequences at all.. i did the fatal bad move to try to UNPLUG the D-Bracket connectors and put them back in right orders WITHOUT switching OFF the power supply so... like an hot USB plug, sort of, in a way. fatal error.. :( :( :(
As soon as i began to remove the usb/jdb1 connectors and put them back in normal order... the system suddenly SHUT DOWN ... no special bad noise, no special smell.. just sudden SHUT DOWN.
From there.. impossible ever to boot back again the so far perfectly working machine (((((((((((( , always same till now :
i switch on the power supply.. orange led appears on motherboard (ok)... i switch on the motherboard.. green led on motherboard appears (ok)... CPU fan begins (ok), video fan begins (ok) .... and... NOTHING.. total black video screen. no more even possibility to see the BIOS. :( total dead startup .. and the fans are going on eternally, blocked eternally in that inital startup with leds on too (no sudden shut down after a few seconds.. just.. nothing)... :(
Suprem irony.. the D-bracket LED seems to 'work' now.. "of course". Just the PC no more booting at all ^. Only thing is that only green LEDs are appearing, no red ones... simply the sequence, from start and never changing :
1. GREEN 2. GREEN
3. GREEN 4. (---) (not red, just nothing -?)
If i look in manual, it means "Testing RTC (real time clock)". I don't know exactly what it means *here*, but sounds to me it is the most basic initial first BIOS checking.. and BIOS can't be reached for even that so ; BIOS fried???? :( :(
I tried every 'standard' things recommanded usually here in older posts, for new boots recovery attempts thereafter in such 'boot errors' situations (clear cmos button pushed in every possible ways -quick, long, quick etc..-, removing little by little everything but the very minimal least energy taxing setup; keyboard, cpu, video, motherboard; 1 ddr2 nearest cpu slot.. point).. NOTHING. Worst, i tried to boot with one of those elements missing.. exact same D-Bracket lightning from start to.. eternally (123 GREEN 4-nothing). Even tried to remove the little (cmos?) KTS lithium battery for a few hours -that could work sometimes with the old already ultra-sensitive amd/nforce2 chipset bioses problems, so i tried there too-?-; same 3 green lights and fans running and nothing else happening from there.. ((
Always the same; total dead boot as above. black screen. no possible access to even bios panel. ,(((
So my desperate questions, now: of course, the origin is obvious here; all happened "by my fault" when i tried 'too quickly' to 'hot-plugging' replace correctly the D-BRACKET plugs *without* switching off the power supply... all shut down suddenly when i put back correctly the usb& jdb1 headers... :( ;
- do you think there could be any possible last HOPES to recover the situation that i had missed (a well known situation in such d-bracket handling 'common' (?) connection error, a simple trick to try i had missed ??)
- do you think i FRIED something in the process on the motherboard ?? :( :(
- do you think it is 'only' the BIOS (fried????) ?? :( :(
- do you think i could have fried a specifical external key component in the process (not necessarily motherboard) : ddr2 modules, cpu, video card????? :( :(
- is my only solution is to send the motherboard to RMA (no other ways now) ???
please, don't hesitate to give me any possible hints to try to avoid the RMA process.
can i avoid it, right now?
is that possible to fry an whole board just with such a D-Bracket 'hot plug switch' (on a so far perfectly working -light- setup - no oc, little video card, etc) ???? :( :(
That is the only C2D Intel/ddr2 motherboard i have here around. No possibility to test elements by elements for precise error checking (cpu, ddr2 modules, video card or powersupply).
Only things i could check so far are;
- the power supply (aerocool 620W zeroDBA) ;
i tested it back on my old amd xp-m nforce2 setup.. always working apparently. NOT 'fried' so, apparently. but no way of course to test for exemple the special 8x8 (or 8x4) Intel ATX cpu connector on old xp-m motherboard. But power supply NOt fried at least, apparently -?
- the video card.
no way for me to really test the pci-e card on other motherboard around but.. i tried a very old PCI VGA card.. that one works on old setup.. and on P6N, no effect, doesn't improve the situation. So, not sure the new pci-e video card isn't fried.. but a new video card doesn't correct the dead boot problem.. (
No way for me to test the ddr2 or CPU directly though.
Do you think DDR2 or CPU could have been fried in the process too ???
or just, as i fear anyway, 'simply', the motherboard BIOS fried -??? :-(

if there could be an 'hidden' trick i did not try yet to try to recover the (initially working perfectly!!! (( ) setup, WITHOUT engaging the motherboard RMA process (at least 2 or 3 weeks lost here to wait the return..online store etc..)....

i am *really* very sad of that stupid clumsy idea to want to 'enable' the D-Bracket.. all was working great so far.. and i lost all with just that stupid idea to try an hot plug bracket reconnection without switching off the power supply it seems.. can it be possible,sigh?? all seemed so stable before that, that i.. just lost my usual cautious just 3 sec too long it seems... :-(

hoping post not too long too, but i tried to expose the situation as precisely as possible; first time i ever had such a problem with a motherboard/system install.. that is quiet ironical knowing it was also the best and quickest/easiest easy going new built i ever had so far too.. till then ,( .. and all came from the 'helper' d-bracket 'luxury second hand possible boot helper diagnostic tool' checking in the end too, here.. really hoping i can avoid an RMA process.. and no other hardware elements (apart the motherboard?) could have been damaged in the process ? ,(((

Alas, i already tried that many times in following interesting asnwers on similar problems in old posts here; did NOTHING. ,(
But after your post, i tried it again, and removed for the remaining *hours* (6/8h?) the cmos battery as suggested again *too* so -pushed again the clear cmos button etc when battery out, then when in again, then replugging the powersupply etc; NOTHING better alas too. always same, no boot, black screen, no bios. ,(
Problem always the same, to sum up, for clarity:
power supply on => orange motherboard led is lightning up, motherboard on => green motherboard led is lightning up, cpu/video/case fans are working up as normal and.. that's all. nothing else forever. black screen. no signal. not a single chance to get again the bios setup screen.
another detail i omitted, maybe; keyboard lights are all lightnng up too.. and stay blocked in that state too. tested with 2 different keyboards, same. to shut down the leds, fans etc, only one solution, shut down the power supply button directly, at that stage.
right now, i test on barebone minimal system as recommanded too;
cpu, 1 dimm (closest cpu slot), video, keyboard. all rest disconnected.
i of course tried to reset the cmos with the 'magical red button' many times before, with power supply cable plugged out, pushed the button trying almost every possible way so far (quick, long, long sequences, short sequences etc etc)... changed NOTHING so far -is that thing working?? ,(. and right now, same after hours with cmos battery removed too. ,(
the d-bracket leds are always (now it is correctly plugged..) :
123 GREEN 4 (nothing)
"Testing RTC (real time clock)"
another 'interesting' detail is that; those leds are appearing IMMEDIATELY after the motherboard is switched on, from start (green led appearing on P6N). and it is staying as such till the end. nothing else. i tried to connect also the case speaker ; no bips, no sound signals at all too.
I also remind the system was WORKING like a dream during 5 days *before* i had that sudden TOTAL boot problem.... AND i touched almost nothing in the bios too all along, for initial security reasons too.. (i was concentrating on the software installs anyway right now, NOT on the oc side..). The ddr2 quick little change i did was also the ONLY change i tempted to simply test quickly some setting i already saw working without problem with that P6N and that kind of ram.. and it was working without problem so far too, so.. all the time idem. And it had been perfectly working for 3 days as such untouched from there; no problems at all (those memory modules have been seen on that motherboard largely at those specs, why i did that quick test anyway.. far under their possible max -micron chips). it was even working so well i forgot to put the setting back as default after that quick ram test.. so much it was stable too (even if i had not time to do real memtest test on that one - i did for many hours with the initial automatical default settings too, to check the ram quality, was perfect for many hours, so ok too, no bad ram initially too-; was so stable for all my XP software installs operations etc.. that i forgot it thereafter, to be true..why it stayed like that till that moment (incidently).. but i preferred to mention it 'just in case' though, yes. i also did not push at all the dimm voltages in the process, it was always far inside the specs at 2.05V to be exact -usual for that ram too up to those numbers easy for it. i did not push the ram voltages either so..).
The problem ONLY appears when i wanted to unplug the *initially* badly connected D-bracket headers so (inverted headers.. but that caused NO problems either so far too for the system stability.. only the LEDs were of course not working so far..) : i did the error to NOT switch off the power supply. :(
*then* immediately the system shut down... and above situation appeared. ,(
BUT all was working perfect before.. ram setting included so. ,((
So my simple questions now too ;
- do you know what means *exactly* the d-bracket message 'Testing RTC" (123 GREEN, 4 nothing).. initial bios problem, isn't it?? other ways to recover it now?? ,((
- is it a WELL KNOWN PROBLEM when we try to disconnect and replug too hastily the d-bracket headers without switching off the power supply (*my* main erorr here, it seems :( :( ) ????
... and of course, do you think it could have *fried* another key component (cpu, ram -?? why i reminded the setting, just in case-?-, video card? .. ) with that d-bracket initial disconnection error ... ,(
as i said, i have no secondary c2d/ddr2 motherboard here : no way to test the cpu and ddr2 modules on another motherboard to be sure too here. :( i absolutely can't know if they have been damaged or not, here.. :( :(
any other idea for the motherboard itself though ??? ,(

How to stop RMA'ing and get a NEW device?

I just got my laptop another RMA for service due another major hardware failure. This will be the third RMA since I purchased it in May of last year.
I am active duty military and basically live out of my luggage/in hotels/on my laptop due to having a job that requires over 50% of the time traveling. I am a prior MSI customer (this laptop replaced my old MSI) and feel like I have a lemon.
I can't complete the rest of my college course, can't stream to my followers on Twitch.tv, and can't even Skype my family anymore due to having to wait a few more weeks to get my device back.
In my opinion, I think it would be best to reach out to a manager or someone at MSI and have them understand that I am not their typical gamer/user and request a completely new device.

if oyu just bought laptop recently then store is quilty to let you have re-placement within a limited time idk limit it's diffirent per country but in sweden you can have laptop re-placed to new one within 2 weeks and if you havent you wil only be allowed to have it sent to repair and if that wont solve it or new issue comes up and you send it off 2nd time and a 3rd problem comes and you dont want to rma it again then here in sweden law states your allowed to have laptop re-turned completely have have money back so you can either buy new one from same store or buy new one some where else.
I had to RMA my GS70 once then it returned but it had gpu issue and i had to RMA it shortly again after it got back but then a friend helped me to get store to buy it back by cancelling the bill and then i could buy new one from more trusted and bigger company which now i have had 2nd GS70 without any issue so i had simply more bad luck with other one while this one is more lucky

Reader doesn't play zero size (width x height) RMA, e. g. sound, anymore

Just to make sure I didn't miss something. It seems that newer versions of Adobe Reader with separate FlashPlayer plugin deny playing zero size (i. e. not consuming document page space) RMAs anymore. In case of short auto-played sound RMAs, the user interface is not really necessary. So I used to embed such RMAs with zero dimensions into the document page. But recently they stopped playing, unless a small extension (in terms of page space) was given to them. Has this behaviour been introduced on purpose (perhaps for security reasons)?

Everything on a page has to have some presence. It was just lucky that what you've been doing up to now worked. Now it doesn't, and the reasons for code changes are not discussed with the general public. If you feel this change should be reversed, file a feature request at http://www.adobe.com/go/wish
I can't see any justification for a zero-size SWF - even if the sound is controlled by scripting you (and a reader) must have access to a page region to open the context menus. If you don't want any visible playhead, the correct workflow is to create a completely-transparent audio player in Flash that works as a play/stop button, so Flash Player has somewhere to hang its context menu.

RMA Turnaround ti

Hi,
I have a Zen micro that I bought back in February of this year, and I can't complain about, it was great, no probs or faults....BUT, in my infinate wisdom I decided to upgrade the firmware last Thursday.
I backed up my data and proceeded to install the firmware up date.
The update stopped installing half way through, and the computer wouldn't recognise that anything was plugged into the USB port from then on.
To cut a long story short I contacted the support team and they were very helpful, but I still had the same problem, the computer wouldn't recognise the zen, and it ended up getting stuck in recovery mode. So I got an RMA number from creative and sent the zen off to them.
I have been able to track the progress of the return through creative's website up until today, when it keeps coming up with the message that the RMA number and telephone number could not be located.
My questions and concerns are.....
) How long does it usually take for a replacment unit to be sent out? As I am going on holiday at the beginning of August, and I don't want to have to go back to the old school and carry a case of CD's with me!
2) I am a little concerned that the tracking for returns isn't recognising my RMA details. Should I be worried about this?

It's happened again.
I got my replacement unit from Creative, can't complain there.
I have a selection of music currently on Napster that needed to be transfered over. So I downloaded V2. of the firmware.
Followed all installation instructions to the letter, I know how to use a computer, so it's not like I'm a PC rookie. I get the same error. I plug the USB cable into the player, a windows comes up saying a MTP source has been detected, do I want to sincronize with MP of Napster. I make my choice, but no portable device is conected. Nothing shows up in My Computer either.
I contact customer support again and they say to install application patches 2 & 3 on the list, still doesn't work.
Then I get asked to go into rescue mode and select reload firmware, and the device dies altogether on me, it comes up with "firmware error" at boot and still won't get recognised when I plug into PC so I can't roll back the firmware.
This is exactly the same thing that happened with my first one.
What is the point in bringing firmware out if all it does is ruin my player. I am less that happy.
I now have to go through all the RMA procedure again, but am left with a music library on Napster that I can't use on my MP3.
If any one has any advice for me please feel free to chip in.
The Zen has a rescue mode, if you could reboot me I'd come up with ridiculous mode about now. Completely unacceptable.

[Radeon] MSI RX9800 128MB WORSE After RMA

After months of unsuccessfully troubleshooting my 3d artifacting problems (random triangular polygon stretching that would only occur while playing games) with my never overclocked MSI 9800, I finally gave up and RMA'd it last week. The RMA process went without a hitch and only took a little over a week. It should be noted that I had to "rollback" to my 3 year old OEM Gateway GeForce 3 during the RMA (which still works just fine, imagine that), so no Battlefield 2 for me...
Finally I got my card back and I swapped it back into my machine. I anxiously pressed the power button only to see that the Windows XP boot graphic (the one with the blue loading bar) had large chunks of artifacting on it. How can that be? Windows loads and I see little blue and red blocks popping up around the screen, along with other artifacting in menus, graphics, etc. How did the RMA make my card even WORSE?! It may of had problems in games before but it NEVER artifacted in Windows.
I started a game up just to see what would happen and the intro movie had a large red triangle covering half the screen. When I actually got into the game itself the screen went black and had about 6 small squares of distorted pixels. I tried to Alt-Tab out of the game since I couldn't see anything on the screen and when I got back into Windows the screen was completely covered with artifacts, so bad I couldn't even see where to click. The mouse pointer (what was left of it...) was even covered with artifacts.
Long story short, RMA'ing my card to MSI cost me shipping charges and made my card EVEN WORSE than it was before. RMA is obviously not a solution for this card anymore and I will be contacting MSI for a replacement card.
I really hope no one else has a similar experience when RMA'ing their product to MSI...

I didn't ask anyone for help with troubleshooting my problem and rudely asking for my system specs via metaphor isn't exactly helping things either.
System specs are irrelevant in the case of the RMA for a very simple reason: Nothing changed in my computer from the time I RMA'd the card to the time I got it back and put it in. The only thing that got worse was my video card, which simply means the video card IS the problem. Believe me, I tried everything to get this card to work.. like I said in my first post. The time for troubleshooting is long since over, it's time for MSI to replace my card with a new one.
I posted this here so other MSI customers could see what potentially could happen when they RMA their products...
I'll be updating this thread after I call MSI tomorrow.

Creative's policy on RMA'ing second hand go

Hi, I'm just writing with something of a general enquiry regarding Creatives returns/RMA policy, particularly pertaining to second hand goods.
I have recently purchased an X-fi Soundcard second hand which i am expected to recieve shortly, after the purchase went through, i was informed by the seller that "the card doesnt work in my machine" and thus it may be damaged... oh joy.
Essentially, i am wondering whether Creative would still accept an RMA on the item if it did turn out defecti've, or if its second hand status would void any chances of an RMA. If it has any bearing, i am UK based.

RMA Replacement Also Faulty?

I just received my RMA board that I sent off before Christmas. They sent me back the same model, but a different board, so the previous one was obviously faulty beyond repair. The problem is, the replacement board seems to be displaying the same symptoms as the previous board... Which is, no display from VGA to monitor, and no boot, or error codes.
So far, I have:
- Tried the CPU on another motherboard - works fine.
- Tried the GPU on another motherboard - works fine.
- Tried the RAM on another motherboard - works fine.
- Tried the PSU on another motherboard - works fine.
I have also:
- Tried a different CPU on this motherboard - but still no boot.
- Tried a different GPU on this motherboard - still no boot
- Tried different RAM on this motherboard - still no boot.
- Tried reseating all the components one by one - still no boot.
- Tried resetting the CMOS and also reseated the battery, still no boot.
- Tried both the single RAM solution, followed by resetting the CMOS, but still no boot.
When I take out the RAM or the GPU, you will hear their respective beep codes. (3 long beeps for RAM and 1 long 2 short for VGA.) When I place them back in, the beeps go away but still, nothing happens. I have tried everything from trying the components on other motherboards, to trying completely different parts on this board to no avail.
Any advice?

No Henry, I don't. I think you misunderstood the question. I asked if the board was 45nm ready... Not 45nm compatible. The replacement board was 45nm compatible, but it wasn't 45nm ready. (which requires a spare CPU to install in order to update the BIOS - which I no longer have.)

915G Combo FR - Possible Short/Conflict

This situation was hard to track down, but this is my best guess. Whenever I unplug/plug in my network cable to the integrated Realtek controller while the system is on, my RAID crashes. I think there might be a short or something going on here.
I have an Adaptec 2410 SA RAID controller in PCI Slot 2. I am running RAID 5 with 3 Maxtor drives. At first I thought it was the drives until Maxtor sent me a replacement that did the same thing...Sorry Maxtor.
It took me a while to find this, but I noticed while rebuilding the RAID in the Adaptec Config...If I removed the network cable the RAID status would instantly go offline and sometimes would not even recognize the drives again until the system was rebooted.
In the troubleshooting process I have upgraded the firmware of all my cards and motherboard, changed slots, drives, and controllers. I'm guessing this is a motherboard or power supply issue, but not sure.
Any ideas?????

Issue Resolved...
Adaptec 2410SA card eventually gave out completely. Adaptec agreed to replace the card, but their RMA process sucks! They give you two options.
Option 1: Ship the card to them and they will send a replacement via ground after your card is received. (Probably 2-week turnaround from the midwest to west coast)
-OR-
Option 2: Pay Fifty Bucks to get the new card in advance via Fedex overnight.
I should send them a bill for the time I spent troubleshooting their P-O-S Sata Card. grrrrr

Question about MSI Motherboard RMA

So my 870A-G54 shorted and wouldn't post so I RMA'd it to MSI in California.
Apparently it arrived in Walnut, CA on Thursday (hopefully the right address, the Customer Support guy told me it was the right address, not City of Industry).
The package arrived on Thursday, signed by someone named Frank and ever since then, the website for RMA tracking still says Processed instead of arrived. Is this normal? RMA customer support is terrible, always get this Chinese/Taiwanese dude who sounds like he doesn't care.

P67A-GD55 No post, 4 short beeps, continuous reboot

New built System:
CPU: Intel Core i5-3450
Memory: Ballistix 240-pin DIMM, DDR3 PC3-12800 memory module, 8-8-8-24 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC, 1.5V • 512Meg x 64
Video card: Gigabyte HD6850
PSU: Antec EARTHWATTS 650W
Motherboard: MSI P67A-GD55
Symptom: Power on => motherboard lights ON => 4 short beeps => all fans ON => 2 seconds => power off => back to the power on (reboot cycle)
No post, no signal to the monitor.
I have tried:
1. switch old video card (a still working card).
2. switch memory cards in 4 different slots.
3. set up the system on cardboard.
4. clean bios (for every test)
Nothing works so far.
RMA the motherboard. They simply swapped the motherboard and send another one back to me.
Unfortunately, same thing happen again. (so frustrated)

R7850 PE 2GD5/OC causes 1-long-2-short beep code on 990FXA-GD80 on some startups

Sometimes (usually after the desktop is shut off for a while), my GD80 board will do the 1-long-2-short beep code, and then continue booting, but the monitor display isn't activated.
Shutting down and turning it right back on however has no beep codes, and the display turns on as-expected. Turning the system off and unplugging the power for a bit, then plugging it back in also doesn't result in beep codes and the display works.
So basically, there's some GPU-related issue that seems to only affect a cold start, but not entirely sure what. According to this, the beep code is a "Monitor or display card error".
The GPU itself seems to work fine with a stress test under Linux.

I RMA'd the card already, so I just hope a replacement fixes the issue.
I'm not too certain how frequently it occurs or the exact ways to reproduce it, but the issue seems to only occur on a cold start. So if I shut my computer down, sleep for some hours, and come back to turn it on, the issue occurs (where the GPU doesn't seem to come on with POST, motherboard beeps, no display output).
It happened since the first time I started using the hardware (I haven't used the motherboard or GPU previously; was waiting on a CPU). The GPU was a RMA already from MSI.
Couldn't test the components in another system. However, I'm using an old Radeon HD 2400 PRO currently in this computer and it starts up fine from cold starts.
The GPU had some other weird issues with it (hard-locked the system when the screen suspended, and wouldn't work with a UEFI VBIOS), so I'm thinking it was just faulty. On the other hand though, once the computer was on and the GPU actually running, everything else was fine (stress testing and games were fine).

Clear CMOS short & power up what could happenn

I bought used K7N2 Delta 2 Platinum, mounted it to case checked everything out and powered up. After 5sec. of "nothing happens" something sed to me: power off.
I checked once again and found clear CMOS pins short. I don't have paper manual so I downloaded it from MSI site but cant find D-bracket LED's codes in it (will have one in few days).
D-bracket shows 1-green 2-green then 1&2-blinking alternatly few times and 1 sometimes stays green , sometimes goes red (2 always stays green), 3-red, 4-red.
My question is:
Manual saying that power on with clear CMOS short WILL damage mobo, but I want know what can be damaged in this 5 sec?
In LED codes from other mobo 1 & 2 green means: decompressing bios image to RAM, in this moment POST stops so maybe only bios is damaged and needs to by flashed?
There was Athlon 166FSB mounted, and i tried with Duron 133FSB so I took out battery and disconected mobo for several hours to be sure that CMOS is cleared
I didn't tryed INSERT key method yet, and hope that this will resolve problems (but in my country people saying "Hope is mother of stupids" ).
Anyway I want to be prepared for the worst, and want know what worst means in this case.
And in worst please tell me where I can make an RMA on this mobo. I can't find anything on MSI website.

Try stripping the board down to just the memory, cpu, vid card, floopy drive, keyboard and mouse. See if it'll post that way. Also make sure you're using a power supply that has the 4 pin connector for the cpu power and it's connected to the motherboard.

Long story short. First board would not boot or post, brand new from newegg. Rma'd directly to msi asking for a working board with latest bios update, but I got a brand new packaged motherboard and now the exact same problems. The reason I went with them is to make sure it was a working updated board, otherwise I could have just gone through newegg and got a refund, now its too late for that :(
I have tried reading the forum and the faqs and have used the guides on starting barebones and all that, still no go. I even cross swapped parts to make sure everything was technically working, except I am left wondering about the cpu. I do not have a cheap, earlier cpu to put in this board.
1. Does the motherboard need a cpu to boot and post? All 4 led's light up with my x4 965 cpu
2. As suggested I just looked at the cpu compatability list, and I am not sure if my cpu is even supported now with the latest bios even though these products were bundled at more than one retailer and the box has the x4 logo on it.
I do see a cpu called z965 with a cpu code:HDZ965FBK4DGM
My cpu code is: HDZ965FBGMBOX if that matters?
So either my cpu is not on the list, or those cpus are the same and I need the latest bios and msi did me wrong by taking another box off the shelf without checking? And if I have to take a chance on them doing me right again they want me to pay to ship it again and hope for a better outcome?

Hmm, all the computers I have had will show the boot screen and beep atleast once before it gets to the memory message before os boot. Then either hang, or report message and/or beep like crazy.
Reguardless I have tried the 1 stick in each slot and tried a couple different ddr3 memory sticks.

This build was kind of built on a budget based on deals and parts others on various forums had reported working together so something is definately up.
Also let computer sit 15+ minutes each time without bios battery. This is just with a memory module, cpu, video card, and power supply hooked up on a piece of cardboard.
Well I thank you all for the help, but to me it seems wierd I took the parts home and have swapped a complete extra set of parts and same results. I have the new computers pieces in mine right now as well and all is well.
I am going to frys tomorrow and purchasing another brand motherboard and will swap it in and see what happens.

History:( Built two identical systems )
1: RMA'd board for a bad BIOS flash. Was sent back with old BIOS. Discovered M-Flash in BIOS. Once you understand it, it works better than any other way I have tried, to update BIOS.
2: Booted long enough to load windows, then dead! Tried Processor from other system, booted fine.
3: RMA'd Processor. AMD found it to be dead sent me a new boxed one.
4: Put system together, would not boot.
5: Swapped Processers around, new one worked fine in other system.Bought an Athlon 64 3500+ locally used for $15 to test setup, it works fine. So board will not boot with 940 but works fine with3500.
6: RMA'd board with this info.
7: Got board back, put in case, wait for it, NOTHING! Will not boot!
8: Unplug floppy, DVD, 1 hard drive and 2 memory sticks, NO boot.
9: Strip from case, put on anti-static mat, NO boot.
10: Reinstalled Athlon 64 3500+, been running overnight no problems running Avira antivirus scan.
Anyone have any ideas before I try to get MSI to understand this.

What a mess you've been through! I'd go through the roof.
If my understanding is correct older processor works, newer not. So that is what we should concentrate our efforts on, right? The new processor.
Damaged, unsupported, underpowered, incorrect seating.
Damaged is a bit early to tell, it might be the last thing we discover.
Incorrect seating doesn't sound likely, since the other works.
Underpowered, well PSU seems to be alright and I believe you can't have a short for one processor but not the other; hope you checked the power cables are in completely.
Unsupported, the 940 needs the latest BIOS update http://www.msi.com/index.php?func=downloaddetail&type=bios&maincat_no=1&prod_no=1552 After the update, pull power cable out, wait a little and then clear CMOS.
Mod: You know of course you can n o t reuse the thermal paste on processor and heatsink. It has to be carefully removed, and then reapplied some new stuff. Bas likes cheese, but I wouldn't recommend that for a beginner - there might be holes in the cheese.
