Rman and Time Navigator

Hi,
I have to use Rman with Time Navigator (quadratec tool). I would like to know if someone did an implementation with these tools and there is some problems.
Thanks
Stephane

We've used BRU Server for several months now. Works reliably, and Tolis Group has been actively updating their GUI app monthly to incorporate user requests. Version 1.20H is a marked GUI improvement over 1.2.0. I don't think you'll beat the price of $600 (25 clients) + $200 (3 year support) for robotic tape support.
We had been using Veritas Netbackup on a venerable SGI/IRIX server before Xserve/BRU, and although BRU definitely does not have all the bells and whistles of VN (mainly database support), it is a fraction of the price and we never needed any of those features anyway. BRU is also vastly easier to use/deploy than more sophisticated offerings. BRU represents a good fit for small shops without enterprise scale protocols.
BRU makes a LE version (US $125) with limited robotic support for local file systems, but last I used it - you cannot do true incremental backups on hard disk since a unique archive name is not used for each night's backup. In contrast, BRU Server utilizes a random hexadecimal name for each archive file. I suppose a Apple script, unix script or user intervention could make sure each BRU LE archive name is unique.
BRU has one more limitation that may affect you: BRU Server 1.2.0 can only have one volume designated as a backup destination. This "stage" can be swapped out by the user with other volumes, providing that the mount point is named identically or you modify the preferences to reflect the new name. I am not sure why this limitation exists.
If your only backing up to disk, or would rather have random access to your files (versus an archive file that you need BRU to restore) - you may consider a free solution like RsyncX before plunking down money on a tape-centric solution.

  • Browser Back Button and form navigation

    Some times when you use browser back button and adf-taskflow navigation buttons, validation on form fails, witout having made any change even with enabled token validation.
    Reproduction steps on HR schema:
    1. Create QueryDepartment and EditDepartment Views and navigation rules in adfc-config.xml
    2 Create ADF view only table page for QueryDepartment selectable, and add navigation button to go to EditDepartment
    3. Create EditDepartment form with navigation buttons and button to navigate back to QueryDepartment
    test:
    1.Run QueryDepartment and select a department
    2.Go to Edit Department using navigation button
    3.Navigate to next department pressing the 'Next' button
    4.Navigate back using the Browser Back button.
    5.Try to navigate back to QueryDepartment using the navigation button.
    My result is validation error on DepartmentId field 'Error: JBO-25013: '
    Is this a bug or am i doing something wrong?

    Hi,
    maybe I don't get it, but as I understood you have problem with focus on select button. So why don’t you set focus onLoad on another element of your page?
    Something like onload=”$x(‘ELEMENT_NAME’).focus()”;

  • Backup policy on Grid, using RMAN and Recovery Catalog.

    Hello Gurus,
    I'm trying to move ahead the new features of Oracle 10g in my company. So I've already created Grid Control and will deploy Agents/Targets during the next week. I also want to switch the backup process from the archaic exp/imp to RMAN with the Recovery Catalog.
    My question is such: could anybody suggest the best book or text with solutions and descriptions of backup policy, using the Grid, RMAN and Catalog? What I want to do is to create eventually the powerful and centralized storage of every database in a company and do all daily routine from there. But as long as I'm only in the very beginning I want to gain some knowledge before the bad experience, like crashed recovery catalog and no backups for all databases :-)))
    Definitely I'll keep existing imp/exp and hotbackup for a long time. I'm not going to substitute all our backup strategy with one catalog. I just want to understand what will be the best practice in the backup perspective.
    And at all, I wonder if you please could give me very brief answer to this question: Let's say I have a huge monster with 5 disks by 500Gb RAD0+1. Is it a bad idea to store all of them in one physical machine before they will tape to backup or it could make sense? For me it sounds a bit scary, but probably if all made with the brain it's not a bad idea?
    Please, send me to some valuable and good source (like Tom Kyte or Don Burleson) Unfortunately, I didn't find anything regard the backups itself. Only pretty much general thought.
    Thanks a lot in advance.
    M.

    great!
    thanks a lot!
    this is definitely valuable info and I'll read right away. but as far as understand they suggest to use Data Guard, Standby and RAC which are the best ways to prevent your environment from crash. But in reality (I mean in my company) nobody is going to move to RAC at this point and I'm not sure, that they will have a chance to do in the next year. they just aren't up to it.
    what I'm looking for is probably some tips and hints about backups in more or less big environment, but not as big as Oracle itself :-) unfortunately, i'm the only DBA in my surrounding. i mean, i have no friends or mentors DBAs that could seat with me in a pub and pass theirs knowledge from generation to generation :-)))
    but anyway, I'll devote this week-end to this link.
    thanks a lot!

    Hi,
    I have two Webdynpro applications as an IView linked in the portal, now I want to navigate between the applications.
    I know, that I can trigger a protal event by:
    method ONACTIONFIRE_PORTAL_EVENT .

            PORTAL_EVENT_NAME      = 'showCustomer'
            PORTAL_EVENT_PARAMETER = CUSTOM_ID ).
    endmethod.
    And catch the event by
    method WDDOINIT .
    data: L_API_COMPONENT type ref to IF_WD_COMPONENT,
    L_PORTAL_MANAGER type ref to IF_WD_PORTAL_INTEGRATION,
    VIEW type ref to IF_WD_VIEW_CONTROLLER.
    L_API_COMPONENT = WD_COMP_CONTROLLER->WD_GET_API( ).

  • Rman and optimizer run parallel

    we have 300GB size database and we have to run RMAN full backup which normally takes 6 to 7 hrs to complete and after RMAN completion we need to run the schema level optimizer to collect the statistics for whole database; We need at least 12 hrs complete these two process. OS – Linux with 32 GB ram and 8 CPU.
    What the impact of we run both RMAN and schema optimizer parallel.
    Is there any way to reduce the process time. Please suggest me. Thanks.

    Hi
    If you took backup of indexes and temporary tables in your full backup then instead of that you can create new tablespace and move all those indexes and temp.tables and take backup without indexes and temp.tables.
    and create one script of those indexes and temp.tables and keep it with you, because temptables are either session preserve or commit preserve so no need to tack backup of those data. it may be reduce you backup time....

  • Time independent and time dependent

    Hi  ,
    Can anyone explain
    What is difference between time independent master data and time dependent master data?
    time independent  navigation attribute and time dependent  navigation attribute?
    Regards,
    maya

    Hi Maya,
    As the name states time dependent and time independent ceratin data could be dependent on time. Lets say there is a sales person and he resides in Indian from June to Dec and from Jan to May he resides in US then you can make that characteristic as time -dependent.
    Bye

  • What's the difference between RMAN and Datapump?

    I'm just wondering about differences between using RMAN and Datapump? If i'm backing up data, moving data, extraction and import times? Thanks.

    Hi,
    The diference between Data Pump and RMAN is accurately the type of the back up.
    The Data Pump to make logic backup and RMAN to make phisycal backup.

  • Droid 2 keeps asking me to choose default between Browser and VZ Navigator

    Recently when I click on Internet links my browser makes me pick between the regular Browser and VZ Navigator. I keep picking the regular browser and checking the default box, but each time it still makes me pick between the two. Is there anyway to fix this so I can just have the Browser open up all links?

    Hi kates242424,
    I access several internet links on my phone every day and I can how this constant prompt to choose between the Browser and VZ Navigator can be inconvenient. If you force stop the VZ Navigator application this issue will most likely be resolved. On your phone press Menu>Settings>Applications>ManageApplications>All>VZ Navigator>ForceStop.
    Thanks to our participating forum members on this post. I trust that the above steps will resolve your browser concerns. If issue continues please post back.

  • My songs skip when i have other programs running and am navigating through them, how do I fix this?

    My songs skip when I have multiple windows running and am navigating through them, it is quite irratating!

    First try deleting the songs and redownloading them
    Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
    Next
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
    Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
    least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync/delete all music and resync
    To delete all music go to Settings>General>Usage>Storage>Music>Tap edit in upper right and then tap the minus sign by All Music
    - Reset all settings
    Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
    All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
    - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • RMAN and RAC

    Hi all,
    Just a query with RMAN and backing up RAC databases.
    Reading Metalink Note: 243760.1 (RMAN: RAC Backup and Recovery using RMAN) it suggests that, for a 2 node RAC cluster, 2 channels should be set up, with a connection to each instance. For example,
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 2;
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL 1 DEVICE TYPE DISK connect 'SYS/rac@node1';
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL 2 DEVICE TYPE DISK connect 'SYS/rac@node2';
    On our systems though, which we inherited, the backup script has 4 channels, but all of them connecting to Instance A). For example,
    CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE DISK PARALLELISM 4;
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL 1 DEVICE TYPE DISK connect 'SYS/rac@node1';
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL 2 DEVICE TYPE DISK connect 'SYS/rac@node1';
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL 2 DEVICE TYPE DISK connect 'SYS/rac@node1';
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL 2 DEVICE TYPE DISK connect 'SYS/rac@node1';
    Now, we have done backup/restoration testing and it all appears to work. I can confirm that both UNDO tablespaces are being backed up, and all archivelogs as well.
    I believe the reason why all connections go to the A) node is because the backup storage is locally mounted on the A) node and accessible by the B) node over the private network.
    (We use Sun Cluster to mount the backup storage globally between the nodes, with A) being the master/local access and B) having access over the network).
    The question is, is there any critical reason why we should connect to each instance, or is it a best practice type thing (e.g. to share the load between nodes) ?
    Thanks for you input.

  • Backing up photos on iMac using external hard drive and time machine

    How do i back up photos from my imac using an external hard drive and time machine
    Thanks in advance

    Apple explains how to use Time Machine in http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1427.
    Setting up and using TM is very simple to do, connect any external HD (format as Mac OS Extended (Journaled) using Disk Utility ) and your computer shoudl ask if you want to use that EHD for a Time Machine backup. If you have any questions visit your local Apple Store or reseller and they can answer how to setup and use TM and also should be able to offer suggestions on EHDs. My personal preference is OWC (www.macsales.com) Mercury Elite Pro due to the build quality and OWC's level of support.

  • I'm having a hard time setting up my external hard from with my AirPort Extreme and Time Machine Backups.

    I have been using a Mac Mini with an external hard and Time Machine.  I bought an Airport Extreme and have had problem setting up the hard drive using the USB port on the Airport Extreme.  I also just recently bought a Mac Book Air and hope to have both computers back up to the external hard drive using Time Machine and Airport Extreme.  I have been using the optical drive from the Mac mini to load programs into the Mac Book Air.  I think I'm just getting confused in Finder.  I am just not seeing the hard drive.  I ended up plugging the hard drive back into the Mac Mini and that is work fine again.  How do I setting the external hard drive up to the AirPort Extreme and use for both computers?  Or at least to start with the Mac mini.

    It's critical to understand that Time Machine (TM) stores backups differently between local and network drives. That would mean the TM backup on your locally attached USB hard drive will not be directly useable when it is connected to the AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBS). There is a way to copy a local version to a network version, but it is not fool-proof. When you do connect this drive and point TM to it, TM will start a brand new backup, leaving your existing backup as is.
    If your current backup is critical to you, you may want to consider getting a second USB drive to attach to the Extreme and use your existing one as a backup ... or use TM's multi-backup process to backup to more than one destination drive alternatively.
    So, at this point, you may want to make a decision on how you want to go forward to help provide a solution for you.
    To directly answer your question, when you go to select a destination for a Time Machine backup, the drive(s) that show up under "Backup Disks" are those that TM already recognizes and has backed up to. Those listed under "Available Disks" are drives (either local or on the network) that TM can back up to.

  • Date and Time in Sender File Adapter Target Directory

    Hi there,
    is there a way of using Date and Time from XI to the Target Directory naming? To use variable substitution some fields of the message had to contain that date and time information, which is not our case.
    For filename you can use "add time stamp" option, but and for target directory?
    Thanks and regards,

    Hi there, Moorthy
    We've tried to write that shell script that you mentioned, but now we have a few doubts on how to make it create the proper directory.
    In the file adapter, my target directory is "/%var1%/%var2%/", where %var1% and %var2% are variable substitutions, referencing data which comes from the payload. Now, I need the shell script to append "/<Year>/<Month>/" in the target directory. But where to archive the script? If it stays in the root directory, than how to make it create "/<Year>/<Month>/" folders inside a directory which is variable (/%var1%/%var2%/)?
    Is there a way of passing %var1% and %var2% as parameters for the shell script?
    Thanks a lot,
    Henrique.

  • Unable to insert date and time when using date datatype

    Hi
    I am hitting a bit of a problem when using the date datatype. When trying to save a row to the table where the field it throws an error ora 01830 and complains about converting the date format picture ends...etc. Now when I do the insert, I use the to_date function with the format of "dd-mon-yyyy hh24:mi:ss". Of course, when I remove the time element, everything is perfect.
    Checking sysdate, I noticed that the time element wasn't be displayed, and I used alter session set nls_date_format to set the date and time I want to save to the table, which worked!
    Then based on advice in a previous thread to permanently fix the problem, I used alter system set nls_date_format ="dd-mon-yyyy hh24:mi:ss" scope=spfile; This showed that it was altered, and I can see the setting in the em. In sqlplus, I shutdown the database, and restarted with startup mount; alter database open; and then selecting sysdate, it still shows the date as dd-mon-yy, and still no time! Checking the em, and looking up the nls_date_format the setting is still shown as "dd-mon-yyyy hh24:mi:ss".
    So, my question is this - what am I doing wrong? Why can't save date and time using date in Oracle 11g?????
    Thanks

    ThanksYou most certainly can save the time. A DATE column, by definition stores date and time. What you describe is a presentation problem, and setting nls_date_format at the system as an init parm is the weakest of all settings as it is overridden by several other locations.
    without seeing the exact sql that produced the error (not just your description of what you think you were doing) it is impossible to say for sure.
    However, I'd suggest you read http://edstevensdba.wordpress.com/2011/04/07/nls_date_format/
