Rman backup over private network

How can I force an rman backup to use a private network instead of public network.

Hi scottnoswa,
create a net service in the tnsnames.ora which uses the private IP and use this to connect to the target.

  • Rman Backup Over The Network

    Hello to EveryOne,
    My Oracle Database is on Windows 2003 server.
    I m taking the backup of database from its Standby with RMAN
    and stored it on standby server site
    but now i want to do the blockrecover of datafile in production DB.
    May I recover it over the network on production site from standby storage
    If yes plz Tell me how i can do it
    Thanx

    Look, when you ask a question, you always specify all applicable information upfront, so people don't have to tear it out of you.
    I know for a fact most DBAs posting here exactly want to do nothing at all (except for sitting with their shoed feet on their desk waiting until the replies come in)
    and invariably end their posts with grammatically incomplete and incorrect sentences like
    'what will be possible cause'
    mimicking the English of the owner of the Quick-E mart in the long-running cartoon series 'The Simpsons'
    For RMAN and Samba there is note 557057.1 on Metaclick, and if you have no access to Metaclick, I'm sorry.
    So far, I have been misused to look up information you could have looked up easily. Just because you are too lazy.

  • RMAN backup testing using networker and NMO

    I want to do some RMAN backup testing using networker 7.5 and NMO 5.0. I am doing these testing on VMware. I am not sure whether I need to buy some tape drive for my home PC to do backup testing or I can mimic hard drive as tape drive in VMWARE.
    Do you have any idea? any suggestion please?
    Thanks..

    I think this is not a RMAN/Oracle issue, as soon as you configure networker MML it's up to networker to define the real backup destination behind. Maybe networker has also a 'fake' tape destination,but I don't know this. There's a networker forum:

  • Migration over private network - Non-Cluster

    Hello everyone...
    I have a hyper-v cluster (3 nodes), and a second stand-alone hyper-v host; all of which is managed by SCVMM 2012 R2.  The VMM server, and all hyper-v hosts are connected to a 10gbs private network.
    When doing a live migration between nodes in the cluster; everything is being transferred over the 10gbs network.
    When doing a live migration between one of the cluster nodes and the stand-alone host, it uses the public LAN.
    All machines can ping each other on the 10gps network, so it isn't a connectivity issue.  (I am using that network to do backups as well.)
    On the stand-alone host, I have "use the following IP subnets" set to the subnet of the private network.
    All machines are running Windows Server 2012 R2.
    Any suggestions on how I can do the migration using the 10gps network?
    Thanks!

    If I understand correctly , you may need to check the link layer between the cluster node's live migrate IP and that stand-alone host's LM IP .
    I want to know the detail of the network topology between cluster and stand-alone host because you mentioned "it uses the public lan" .

  • Metadata over private network?

    How can I tell if the Metadata traffic is going over the private network I have set up and not over the public one that allows my machines to get internet over. I set the machines up over the private network and they always showed up in xSan Admin as the private addresses until I plugged the second network cables into my Metadata controllers and two of my clients. Now they show up as the addresses assigned by my DHCP server on my local network.
    My few clients that are not on my local internet network still seem to be communicating to my metadata controllers on the private side. I just want to make sure I am getting the best performance and Metadata isn't flying across my local network.
    Thanks!

    I think you can do several things to check this:
    x listen on the wires with an ethernettool
    x check /Library/Filesystems/Xsan/config/fsnameservers
    x check /Library/Filesystems/Xsan/data/<volumename>/log/cvlog
    x check /Library/Filesystems/Xsan/debug/nssdbg.out

  • RMAN Backup to external network/drive on Windows environment

    Hello, I have been searching quite a while in many different documents, but I still haven't found a clear understanding on the following subject:
    Is it possible to have in a Windows environment a backup strategy which writes these backups to an external network/drive? As for example:
    CONFIGURE CHANNEL DEVICE TYPE DISK FORMAT '\\ext_server_name\backups\%d_ora_df%t_s%s_p%p';
    I am aware that this type of backup functions under Unix and Linux environments, nevertheless I would like to do this also under Windows.
    Is there a possible way of doing this? And if there it is how can I achieve this, or where can I read about doing this in this way?
    Thanks for your help. I hope this information is sufficient for you?

  • ICM Router & Logger Private Network connectivity

    Hi,
         Can any one give me clarification on the following
     Is there any private network connectivity betwen ICM router and Logger ?

    No, call routers (central controller) communicates between side A and B over private network for synchronization, so do PG pairs. Loggers receive data from local call router over public traffic.

  • RMAN  backup and restore in network

    Hi,
    I have already did cold backup of database using RMAN in the same disk on a linux OS. It was successful.
    Now i want to do the same backup in a different disk on a another system. Both the systems are in same network.
    Please help me

    You can name the NFS mount point anything meaningful.
    In your RMAN Backup script, you would use the FORMAT clause to specify the location where the backups are to go to.
    For example, if the filesystem from linux2 is NFS-mounted on linux as as /NFS_backup your RMAN command would be
    BACKUP DATABASE FORMAT '/NFS_backup/%U';
    BACKUP ARCHIVELOG ALL FORMAT '/NFS_backup%U' DELETE INPUT ;Look up the syntax of the formatSpec in the Backup and Recovery Reference for formats other than %U. %U generates a Unique File Name.

  • Oracle Online Backup through EMC Networker - RMAN Script

    Hi,
    For taking online oracle backup through EMC Networker, we configure the RMAN script to connect to the target database, create the media channels, backup format etc. The password for the sys or rman user entered in the RMAN script is in clear-text format.
    Due to security reasons, I don't want the passwords to be entered in the RMAN script. Is there any option for configuring RMAN script without mentioning the username/password to connect to the target database ?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Shreejesh.

    When you have to connect remotely to RMAN, you cannot hide the password, you can only define very restricted access for the script itself. Remote OS authentication will not work, because the target db user needs SYSDBA privilege, which cannot be granted to an externally identified user.

  • How to backup Mac Lion over the network

    I have a client who asked me to set up a Lion email server for 20 users.  It is running open directory for the user accounts and has a wiki set up on it as well.  I have been researching  backup solutions for it.  The server runs in a remote data center environment and it is the only mac on the network.  There are other Linux and windows machines on the same network as well.  I would like a backup solution for the email  and open directory database that doesn't require stopping the email service (if possible), and I would like to back up over the network (if possible).
    What would be the best way to back up this server considering it needs to be in service 24/7?  I am open to both free and commercial solutions.  Any thoughts or comments would be very much appreciated.

    As the server is in a (remote) data center the first more normal approach for backing up over the network would require you to have access to a second computer in the same data center this would require additional hosting costs.
    The next (network) approach would involve backing up from the server in the data center over the Internet to perhaps a machine at your own office, or another site, or a third option to use a commercial Internet based backup service.
    Internet backup services include the following and I am sure plenty of others -
    Mozy - http://mozy.com/
    Backblaze - http://www.backblaze.com/
    Carbonite - http://www.carbonite.co.uk/
    Crashplan - http://www.crashplan.com/
    iDrive Pro - http://www.idrive.com/index.html
    Livedrive - http://www.livedrive.com/
    If your backing up to your own Mac over the Internet you will need to setup a VPN link. You could in theory as one possible example, have the Mac mini in the data center also act as a VPN server so you can fully access it, then mount the volumes over AFP, then use any standard backup tool to copy that to a local volume. Retrospect would be able to do this as one example. Another way is rather than using AFP, use FTP to download everything. However unless you protect FTP behind a VPN it is these days considered very insecure.
    Another approach is to use Rsync which is designed original for Unix/Linux for this exact purpose but like all Linux originated software is far from friendly. See http://www.rsync.net/resources/howto/mac_rsync.html

  • RMAN backup to network share and local at the same time ?

    Hi all,
    is it possible to force rman to backup database into two different locations ? one location would be network drive, another local directory.
    I was trying to do it with this script:
    run
    allocate channel c1 type disk format '\\10.236.196.247\BACKUP\%U' maxpiecesize 2g;
    allocate channel c2 type disk format 'F:\data\flashback\db_recovery_area/%U' MAXPIECESIZE 2g;
    backup database;
    backup current controlfile;
    release channel c1;
    release channel c2;
    what I get is my backup is split between these two locations... unable to recover database from one of them.

    Hi,
    You can check the documentation: Multiple Copies of RMAN Backups ;-)
    When backing up datafiles, archived redo log files, server parameter files and control files into backup pieces, RMAN can duplex the backup set, producing up to four identical copies of each backup piece in the backup set on different backup destinations with one BACKUP command. (Note that duplexing is not supported for backup operations that produce image copies.)
    There are three ways to specify duplexing of backup sets when using the BACKUP command:
    Specify a default level of duplexing with CONFIGURE... BACKUP COPIESAll backup commands that back up data into backup sets will be affected if you use this option, unless you specify different duplexing options for a command using SET BACKUP COPIES or provide a COPIES option for the BACKUP command.
    Use SET BACKUP COPIES in a RUN block All commands in the RUN block will be affected, overriding any CONFIGURE... BACKUPCOPIES setting, except those where you provide a COPIES option as part of the BACKUP command.
    Provide a COPIES option to the BACKUP command For this specific BACKUP command, files will be duplexed to produce the number of copies you specify.
    Cheers

    Dear Pierre F.;
    Actually, I just added in my backup plan to have daily backup through RMAN, instead of COLD backup.
    I have planned to take cold backup once a week. here is the side of data:
    *** datafile 410
    *** size of database : 86 GM
    *** relog files size : 250MB
    *** daily archive logs are : 250MB * 4(number of files) = 1GM aprox.
    yes, time constraint is there; just because of the size of database. and we r going for 24/7
    Is this script going to run only one per week ?
    Ans: no I this was level 0 backup; i will take level 1 incremental backup with same script daily too.
    Do you have any other RMAN script ?
    ANS: no, I will modify same script for incremental.
    after local copy of backup all backup files (RMAN) will be copy over network to backup server or we can install LTO tape device to copy directly from database server.
    kindly advise me I am new in RMAN.
    regards;
    SMITH
