  • RMAN BACKUP hangs up on archive logs

    Hi,
    in 9i on Linux, My rman backup script is :
    RMAN> run {
    2> allocate channel t1 type disk;
    3> backup incremental level=0 format '/mnt/rman/MYDB/full_%d_%t_%s_%p' database;
    4> sql 'alter system switch logfile';
    5> backup format '/mnt/rman/MYDB/al_%d_%t_%s_%p'
    6> archivelog all delete input;
    7> backup format '/mnt/rman/MYDB/ctl_%d_%t_%s_%p' current controlfile;
    8> }
    It works well until :
    backup format '/mnt/rman/MYDB/al_%d_%t_%s_%p' archivelog all delete input;
    Here it hangs up (may be there are many many archive log files). What do you propose ? How can we ask RMAN just backup archive logs since some recent dates ? How can we delete most of ancient archive logs ? Since many times RMAN backup was in error then archive logs were not deleted. Now impossible to finish RMAN backup. Many thanks for your help.

    Hi,
    I launched following since last night but it is always waiting :
    RMAN> crosscheck archivelog all;
    allocated channel: ORA_DISK_1
    channel ORA_DISK_1: sid=110 devtype=DISK
    What can I do ? Any other way to say to RMAN that archived logs are not available ?
    Many thanks.

  • I am getting below error while taking RMAN backup.

    Friends,
    I am getting below error while taking RMAN backup.
    The issue is related with a lock while trying to backup the controlfile.
    The lock is more likely caused by the autobackup controlfile process started just before RMAN process was also trying the backup controlfile as shown in the following alert.log excerpt.

    Hi,
    Since the error ORA-19809 indicates the lack of space in flash recovery area during the media recovery, I suggested increasing the value of the parameter DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE.
    Yes, during the media recovery the RMAN will restore the archived log to the default destination (only if the required archived logs are not already on the disks).You can confirm the restore location of the archived log in RMAN restore log/destination specified by parameters log_archive_dest_1/db_recovery_file_dest.

    I am not able to restore spfile from rman backup ;;;

    Hi,
    I would like to know few things
    1. How are you setting the db_name ? you can set db_id at RMAN, how are you setting the db_name ?
    2. Do you have any default init file at default location ? if yes, is the db_name parameter set correctly in that file ?
    Since spfile is yet to be restored, you must set the db_name parameter correctly before you start spfile restore.This can be done with init file at default location which can even contain just one paremeter i.e db_name.

    You can continue backup from which files not backed up and this is call restartable backup.Please refer below link

    i am deleting some archieved logs on the archieved destination before takeing the RMAN backup, and then running rman backup ...then any error will raised for the missing files during Rman archive log backup for missing files? i have the files like 1 to 10 ...in that 5 and 6 logs are deleted before takeing the Rman backup..how to resolve this?If you manually delete archivelogs then you will get an error so before executing this backup command you have to execute CROSSCHECK ARCHIVELOG ALL and DELETE EXPIRED ARCHIVELOG ALL then your problem will solve.

  • RMAN backup fails using OEM with no output error

    I am trying to do a weekly automatic full backup of a database in noarchivelog mode using RMAN in Enterprise Manager. Every time I submit the backup job (even if I try to do an immediate backup) the job fails almost immediately. When I Iook at the job output for the failed attempt, it says that there is no output for the job. I believe I have all of the preferred credentials and priveleges correct. Does anyone have any ideas as to what the problem could be or maybe where I can find an error log for rman to get a better explanation of the error?
    Thanks

    Hi all, i have 2 node RAC and i am trying to take rman backup of the database which is in ASM filesystem.
    There is a corruption in SYSAUX file and rman is failing to take backup of the sysaux datafile and error thrown at the end like

    Then dropped the table, and tried to take backup of the database and it is failing again with the same error..
    ANY SOLUTION TO TAKE BACKUP OF THE DATABASE.
    anyhow we can SET MAXCORRUPT FOR DATAFILE 3 to value, but does this works all time...
    Thanks in advance,

    Regs,
    Brij

    Also, be aware that rman: backup validate (check logical) command could not show the corrupted blocks if that block are newer used(or used before, but freed later for example). In this case, rman validate does not populate V$database_block_corruption but it also does not allows you to continue with your backup.
    So the solution will be, as previous posters said, either set the limit for the sustained number of corrupted blocks or format/repair the corrupted block.
    For checking the corrupted blocks you could also use db verify utility(dbv). This will definitely show you the details about corrupted blocks, even they are not used ever.

    Solution :  As in above case, I have started the database in mount and then alter it to the open mode but it doesnot work out. After some analysis ,troubleshooting and googling, we have decided to flush the shared pool  component of the SGA . So, we have started the database in mount stage and then flush the shared pool and further alter it to open stage . Below are the steps performed to solve this issue .
    SQL> shut immediate
    ORA-01507: database not mounted

    SQL> alter system flush shared_pool;
    SQL> alter database open
    Database altered.
    SQL> select name,open_mode from v$database;
    NAME            OPEN_MODE
    ROYALTON        READ WRITE
    Conclusion : Though this is not the solution but a workaround to solve ORA-00600  which is having same argument as above, then you may follow the above steps.

  • RMAN backup error in R&D Server

    friends,
    OS: RHEL 4.8
    DB: 10gR2
    i am doing some R&D in my 10g test db....
    i deleted the last archive log file...then i tried to do rman backup plus archivelog all;
    but i am getting an error...then i copy the deleted file in the same location...then the backup is working fine...
    suppose if this situation comes in production db what should i do....am i have to wait for the next archive log generation or i have to alter system switch log file;
    thanks

    Hi,
    RMAN>change archivelog all crosscheck;
    If below error commes then Your options are either to restore the missing file(s), or to perform a crosscheck. To perform a crosscheck,
    run the above command from within RMAN
    It is advisable to perform a full backup of the database at this point.
    When an archive log crosscheck is performed, RMAN checks each archive log in turn to make sure that it exists on disk (or tape).
    Those that are missing are marked as unavailable. If you have got missing logs, this won't bring them back. It will allow you to get
    past this error and back-up the database though.

    Hello;
    When you connect RMAN to the source database as TARGET you must specify a password even if RMAN uses operating system authentication.
    So the errors ORA-17627 and ORA-00942 appear to be cause and effect.
    What version of Oracle?  ( 11.2.0.4 according to the tag )
    Can you post your backup script?
