RMAN Backupset information needed for REFRESH

Hi,
Just need some information on following while doing RMAN Refresh from PROD to Test in remote server with different file structure.
1)If i have RMAN cold backup(datafiles backupset) of PROD(Archivelog Mode) do i need to have archivelog backupset for refresh?
2) What RMAN backups i need to have for doing PROD(non-archivelog) refresh through RMAN to Test in remote server with different file structure?
DB Version : 10g
Thanks in advance

Thanks for the response.
So for COLD RMAN Backup (done when PROD db was in mount state) do i need to even put the redologs to the backup location in both PROD and TEST Server ?As i will be doing RMAN REfresh from PROD to TEST in remote server with different directory using "duplicate target database to test" commandHi,
Your backup is consistent that means which your database backup that you can open with the RESETLOGS option without performing media recovery. In other words, the backup does not require the application of redo to be made consistent.
At moment of "alter database open resetlogs" Oracle will re-create all redo automatically.

  • Keyboard information needed for Sat Pro 6100

    Hi, i have a Satellite Pro 6100 model number PS610E-03SKV-EN
    I have damaged my keyboard and need to replace it and i was wondering if anybody knew what is the part number that i need for my laptop to replace my keyboard.
    Thank you

    Thank you for the advice about the German Keyboard, I shall know to definitely avoid buying one in the future. I was interested in this item because it was a white keyboard in my part number and i would have liked a white or different colour keyboard. I didn't win the auction anyway so i am not going to be disappointed there.
    My keyboard from America has arrived and i am disappointed by it slightly. I do wish that i never bought it now. Even though i got it very cheap the delivery cost me $40 dollars because i had to ship to a friend and then she shipped it out to me. What i am dissappointed by is the fact that this keyboard does not even have sign on it and neither does it have a euro sign either. I am not going to install it myself but i am also going to be on the look out for a UK keyboard now because i am not so happy with this one. I find it very odd that a symbol was not on this keyboard.
    I have removed keys number 3 and 4 from my current keyboard and placed them on my new one but this has meant that things are going to be messed up and this means that i will be without a hash key now as well so i do think that a UK keyboard would be better for me.
    There were other things different as well.The space bar is longer on this keyboard part that i bought and it only has three keys beside the space bar on my right hand side and it has not got a Alt Gr key but two Alt keys. I am thinking that there may have been something not quite right with the keyboard.
    The parts number of this item that i purchased is -PS610U-03SR17 as listed on the auction and underneath the keyboard is part number-
    UE2027P22
    I hope that this will be even compatible with my laptop and be able to handle the spec that my laptop has such as the hotkeys etc if i do decide to use it.
    The one that i bought does look very similar to this one.

  • Programming and Network Information Needs for my Wireless Network

    I am looking for a solution to two objectives for my router (currently the airport extreme within my time capsule):
    1. Is there software that, in plan english, will give me a list of the computers and devices that are on using my router and that will provide me with a list of websites visited? Most of what I can find is highly technical in the information.
    2. I'd like to simply shut down the wireless from time to time in our house and currently the only approach I can think of is to unplug the ethernet cable that connects the time capsule to my cable modem. Is there a software program that provides a simple on/off button or, even better, that can shut the thing off for preprogramed periods of time? Freedom is a great program for individual computers in this way, and I am looking for something that works for the entire router.
    Thanks!

    Gibson123, Welcome to the discussion area!
    You really need to get a router which has these capabilities instead of using the AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS).

  • Information needed for packaging Shorewall

    OK, I searched the forums, browsed the mailing list archives, asked in chat and no luck... time to post! ;-)
    I am packaging Shorewall, an excellent high-level tool for configuring Netfilter.
    AFAIK, no one is doing this, I need it so I thought "hey guy, go and do it yourself so you can contribute to Arch!".
    Just a quick question, in order to correctly adjust the relevant entry in shorewall.conf: does Arch use locks in init scripts?
    It seems to me of no - aka: grep lock /etc/rc.d/* returned nothing - but I'd like to be sure.
    Thanks a lot for any replies, as soon as it's ready I'll post the package and all the needed stuff to build it with ABS in /incoming.

  • Information needed for the XMLInterface

    Hi,
    In the past, I used XSU to extract and insert/update data from/into the database in XML documents.
    In BC4J, there is now this XMLInterface, for example implemented by the ViewObject object.
    This looks better, because the writeXML method automagically follows the View links (if accessors are defined for the destination VO of the link). This allows me for example to extract an order and its orderlines in one and the same document.
    But what about the readXML method? No documentation is found in the Javadoc! Is this (near) future music? Is it the intention to accept for example, a document with an order and its orderlines, to create or update the data in the database, while applying any rules implemented in the VO and EO objects?
    Can it be used to migrate data from a legacy system, via XML documents?

    Can it be used to migrate data from a legacy system, via XML documents?You should be able to. The requirement though is to "format" the XML. See the messagingclient example in JDeveloper
    OnlineOrdersFroClients set of samples to see how write/readXML is used to exchange data (and also format conversions using XSL I believe).

  • Information needed for Precalculation Server

    Hi All,
    I am installing Precalculation server for BI Broadcasting. Can i use only 1 Precalculation server for DEV, QA and PRD OR i should use 3 individual precalculation server for DEV, QA, PRD.
    Thanks

    Hi Simon,
    As per my investigation I found, we should use only one server per BW system. If we want to use same precalculation server for multiple BW system, we should use Virtual Machine on precalculation server. Any comment?
    Other thing is as you mentioned we should consider this server as any other server, but precalculatin server is nothing but few services that runs on Windows. So do we have to treat this server same as any other SAP system?
    Thanks

  • Information Needed For Generated SQL

    Hi,
    I have done some odi projects.In most of the RT operation when I check the code in operator I saw that:
    insert into ...when 1=1;
    or
    select ..from.. where 1=1;
    What does it mean by 1=1??
    there is no variable in when or where condition.
    Please Ans
    Thanks

    Hi Papai,
    1=1 is a condition that is always true and that sometimes used in queries.
    ODI uses it in generated code to have valid queries with or without filters. Adding a filter will add a string : "AND filter_condition".
    Without filter:
    select * from table
    where 1 = 1
    ;which is the same as select * from table;
    Add a filter :
    select * from table
    where 1 = 1
    and col1 = 42
    ;Always-false conditions are also sometimes used by SQL developers. If you want to duplicate a table structure without duplicating data :
    create table2 as
    select * from table1
    where 1 = 2;No rows returned, so no rows in the new table but the structure is the same :).
    Hope it helps.

  • SQL to find rman backup files required for recovery?

    Hi folks,
    I'm looking for a sql statement that I can use to query the database and return a list of the RMAN backup files needed for a successful recovery based on a SCN or a point in time. I want to do it through SQL (not though rman) because I want to script an automated refresh process. My databases are backed up online, so I would need any archive log backups done during the database backup as well. So for example...
    I do a database backup
    Then do an archive log backup.
    Pass a SQL script the lowest and highest scn numbers during the backup.
    It returns a list of the rman backup pieces needed to do a successful recovery.
    I've got a script, below, which shows the lowest and highest scn during the last full backup (all datafiles which exist have been backed up), if someone understands what I'm looking for and has done something similar, I would really appreciate any insight you may have. What I'd want to get back from the SQL is the names of the rman backup files (handles) which would be needed to get the database recovered to the highest scn during the backup.
    SELECT MIN(VBD.CHECKPOINT_CHANGE#), MAX(VBD.CHECKPOINT_CHANGE#)
    FROM V$BACKUP_DATAFILE VBD, V$DATAFILE VDF,
    (SELECT
    CREATION_CHANGE#,
    MAX(COMPLETION_TIME) COMPLETION_TIME
    FROM V$BACKUP_DATAFILE
    WHERE CREATION_CHANGE# IN (
    SELECT CREATION_CHANGE# FROM V$DATAFILE)
    GROUP BY CREATION_CHANGE#
    ) QUERY1
    WHERE VBD.CREATION_CHANGE# = VDF.CREATION_CHANGE#
    AND VBD.CREATION_CHANGE# = QUERY1.CREATION_CHANGE#
    AND VBD.COMPLETION_TIME = QUERY1.COMPLETION_TIME;
    Thanks very much for your time,
    -Adam vonNieda

    In case anyone's wondering, here's the answer. The following query returns the min and max SCN numbers contained in the last online backup.
    SELECT MIN(VBD.CHECKPOINT_CHANGE#), MAX(VBD.CHECKPOINT_CHANGE#)
    FROM V$BACKUP_DATAFILE VBD, V$DATAFILE VDF,
    (SELECT
    CREATION_CHANGE#,
    MAX(COMPLETION_TIME) COMPLETION_TIME
    FROM V$BACKUP_DATAFILE
    WHERE CREATION_CHANGE# IN (
    SELECT CREATION_CHANGE# FROM V$DATAFILE)
    GROUP BY CREATION_CHANGE#
    ) QUERY1
    WHERE VBD.CREATION_CHANGE# = VDF.CREATION_CHANGE#
    AND VBD.CREATION_CHANGE# = QUERY1.CREATION_CHANGE#
    AND VBD.COMPLETION_TIME = QUERY1.COMPLETION_TIME;
    This next one gets the session key for that backup.
    Select distinct session_key from v$backup_datafile_details
    where checkpoint_change# >= <min scn# from above> and checkpoint_change# <= <max scn# from above>;
    And finally, this one returns all files written out during that RMAN session, which includes control files, data files, and archived redo logs
    Select handle from v$backup_piece_details
    where session_key = <session key from above> order by completion_time;

  • What are the caveats of using ASM as storage for RMAN backupsets?

    Hello all,
    We are currently evaluating RAC as our standard database platform. Until now we have been using 10g single instance with ASM for datafiles and local filesystems for RMAN backupsets and archivelogs. We chose to use local fileystems for backup components so that we can utilize a Tivoli filesystem backup in order to secure the backup pieces to tape.
    With RAC, we are looking into a shared location for backupsets and archivelogs. OCFS2 is out of the picture due to it not functioning on top of linux LVM. It appears that our only "shared" option is to use ASM for backupsets and archivelogs.
    My concern is that while the data diskgroups and rman diskgroups will be separate, they are both running on ASM and therefore if ASM fails or is corrupted, we have nothing. My current plan is to utilize the Tivoli RMAN MML (TDPO) to backup the backupsets to tape after the ASM backupset has completed.
    What experiences have been had with using ASM for RMAN backups?
    Any advice on additional protection we can employ to ensure that the database remains recoverable?
    Thanks in advance,
    David

    I've personally haven't implemented RMAN with ASM, but you may want to review Faster Backup, Faster Recovery which discusses RMAN utilizing ASM.
    And although you may not get any of the negative aspects from these presentations, you may want to check out High Availability Customer Case Studies, Presentations, Profiles, Analyst Reports, and Press Releases.
    Hope this helps!

  • Information Broadcasting - need for additional Licensing?

    One of the key features that is prompting us to upgrade to BW 3.5 later this year is the Information Broadcasting functionality.
    This will allow us to easily push reports directly to our user base rather than the traditional method of manually emailing workbooks. However will this generate a need for additional licences?  From the testing we have performed so far in order to broadcast a report the receiving user needs to have an account in BW together with the email in the address book.
    We will have a considerable number of users whose only interaction with BW will be to receive a report that has been broadcasted.  Does anyone have any experience of this same issue?
    any help/advice appreciated.
    thanks
    Mike

    Hello Michael,
    One possibility is to create an email alias that is a distribution list of the users that you want to broadcast to. Create a broadcast setting, in step 2 of the broadcaster wizard specify the distribution list. You shouldn't need to create SAP logon IDs for these users.
    I hope that this helps.
    Cheers,
    Scott

  • RMAN backupsets to disk - how to parallelize?

    Is there any way to utilize Oracle RMAN backup parallel features via BR*Tools when performing backup to disk?
    Platform: Windows if it is relevant, Oracle 10.2.0.4.
    The only way I found so far is to use exec_parallel parameter in BRTools profile and in this case parallelizing done via starting n processes of RMAN in parallel when each makes backup of separate datafile. The aim is to do something with BRTools parameters to get parallel option 'inside' RMAN (equivalent of "RMAN> CONFIGURE DEVICE TYPE disk PARALLELISM n;").
    The other part - how to parallelize offline redo log backups for RMAN backupsets? Even having exec_parallel parameter set to >1 only one process of BRARCHIVE is processing all offline redo logs serially.
    BR*Tools parameters which I changed from baseline:
    backup_mode = full
    backup_type = online
    backup_dev_type = disk
    archive_function = save_delete
    disk_copy_cmd = rman_set
    rman_compress = yes
    rman_cross_check = arch_force
    exec_parallel = 4

    Hi Vladimir,
    >> Well, BRARCHIVE does support rman backupsets; not directly through command line parameters but via parameter file.
    You need to use external backup library in order to use backupset by BRARCHIVE with the parameter "rman_filesperset" in init<DBSID>.sap. Please check the link;
