RMAN Restore - continue from a failed point?

Hi All,
While cloning a db using RMAN, We get
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-00569: =============== ERROR MESSAGE STACK FOLLOWS ===============
RMAN-00571: ===========================================================
RMAN-03002: failure of Duplicate Db command at 07/10/2008 01:53:12
RMAN-03015: error occurred in stored script Memory Script
RMAN-06136: ORACLE error from auxiliary database: ORA-00344: unable to re-create online log '/rcatsi/oradata/data02/data03/log1a.dbf'
ORA-27040: file create error, unable to create file
IBM AIX RISC System/6000 Error: 2: No such file or directory
Recovery Manager complete.
I realized that, I had given an incorrect location for the logfile. The database is restored, control file created, while opening the db I see this error. Is it possible to continue with the clone using rman without having to restart the whole clone. I know it can be done manually using create control file and manually applying the archives. However, Is there a way to continue the clone in rman by specifying the correct location for the logfile?
-Ritesh

The directory name was incorrect. I corrected it and re-ran the script. But it started the clone right from the scratch....Instead of continuing from the point it failed..
Did you use LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT (possibly
incorrectly)? Is that directory name correct? You
have data02 and data03 beneath it?

    You could also explore the UNTIL clause of the RECOVER DATABASE command to specify Recovery until a specific Log, SCN or Timestamp.
    Since you are cloning a Hot Backup to another server the Recovery has to be an Incomplete Recovery. So, it will be to a Log, SCN or Timestamp -- either of which you could also explicitly specify with the UNTIL clause.

  • TS4000 can I restore icloud from a different point

    I was having a lot of issues with my iphone, so Apple gave me a brand new phone. I had everything saved on icloud from my original phone. I hit the sync button to restore all of the information from my computer, onto the new phone. I realized that the mail/ notes/reminders was not clicked to on, right after I hit the sync button. I panicked try to stop the sync, but it was too late. I am now worried that there is a new restore point, and important mail, notes, and reminders that I had are now lost. I am wondering if the information that I had once stored, that including all information from notes, reminders, and mail, may still be available to me, since they were once fully saved, and if there is a way to seek and earlier restore point. I did not expect at all, that the mail/notes/reminders button would be turned to off, during the full sync, when everything else was automatically set to on. I could go back and make all new notes again, but if somebody out there is savvy, and can think of a way to find this once stored information, I would love your advice. Take care, and all the best to you!!! Thanks. Rob

    Not really a reply, but I have the same question.  I purchased a new iMac and installed Lion.  I used the Migration Assistant to copy everything to the new machine, but I would like to have a backup copy in case something gets lost.
    Why don't you just do a new backup?
    Can I restore individual files from the Time Machine backup on Computer A running Snow Leopard to Computer B running Lion?
    Yes, via #16 in Time Machine - Frequently Asked Questions.  But the permissions from Computer A will be restored, too, so the user account you restore them to on computer B may or may not have permission to see or change them.

  • How to restore back from a failed upgrading??

    Hi There:
    It failed on the half way due to my Mac went to "sleep" mode and might disconnect the WiFi network connection as I tried to upgrade my ipodtouch from 3.1.3 to 4.3.5(latest version) via iTune 10.4.1 on my Mac book Pro (OSX10.6.8).
    The error message is "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes store. An unknown error occured(11556). Make sure your network connection is active and try again." But as I click the "OK" nothing happens.
    Any idea about this issue?
    Thanks.
    Andy

    A fter a litle thought, the above should not work.  Place the backup file in the place where iTunes places and thenjust do a normal restore from backup.
    iTunes places the backup files in the following places:
    Mac: ~/Library/Application Support/MobileSync/Backup/
    Windows XP: \Documents and Settings\(username)\Application Data\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Windows Vista and Windows 7: \Users\(username)\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\MobileSync\Backup\
    Note: If you do not see the AppData or Application Data folders, you may need to show hidden files (Windows XP,  Windows Vista and Windows 7), or iTunes may not be installed in the default location. Show hidden files and then search the hard drive for the Backup directory.

  • Restoring iPad from a failed update

    I'm trying to update my iPad to iOS5 using a Windows Vista laptop but I keep getting the same error, where my computer is unable to download the required Apple Mobile Device drivers. This disables my computer from restoring my iPad so now it is stuck on the screen with the USB cord and the iTunes logo. The backup went successfully but the restoring is where I'm stuck.
    I've tried restarting my computer, uninstalling and reinstalling iTunes, restarting the iPad, scanning my computer for viruses - none has worked. Whenever I open iTunes on my computer it does not show up so that I can sync it.
    I'm wondering if I could use another computer to restore the iPad, risking losing all my information stored on it and then since the backup was successful if I could simply sync the computer and the iPad and I will get back everything. Will that work? And if not, does anyone have any other solution as to how I can restore my iPad?

    chelsj18 wrote:
    How exactly do I restore from the backup? Go to Edit >> Preferences >> Devices and then what?
    This is not where you restore from the backup. This is where you can find your backups and delete them if you need or want to do so.
    Connect the iPad to the computer
    Launch iTunes
    Right Click on the iPad name under "Devices"
    Select "Restore from Backup"
    A window will pop up that will allow you to pick from any of the backups that you have for your iDevices. Choose the backup that you want to se in there.

  • RMAN restore from active database, ASM

    I'm attempting to refresh a stage database from a prod database using RMAN restore from active database. Both are on ASM. After working through various hurdles, I've got one issue I'm a bit stuck on. I've got a handful of data files that do NOT have OMF names (ie MSTRDATA/mstrmdpd/datafile/gsa_indx instead of MSTRDATA/mstrmdpd/datafile/gsa_indx.351.714779777) and these are failing when I do the restore. The syntax I'm using in RMAN is as follows:
    duplicate target database to dwstage
    from active database
    spfile parameter_value_convert 'dwprod','dwstage'
    SET DB_FILE_NAME_CONVERT '+DWPROD','+DWSTAGE'
    SET LOG_FILE_NAME_CONVERT '+DWPROD','+DWSTAGE';
    The error message I'm getting is this:
    RMAN-03009: failure of backup command on ORA_DISK_1 channel at 04/21/2011 13:26:24
    ORA-17628: Oracle error 19505 returned by remote Oracle server
    continuing other job steps, job failed will not be re-run
    Normally from what I've seen/read this error can be traced back to needing to pre-create the directories for the controlfiles etc, but since 90% of the datafiles copied correctly...
    Any suggestions as to a way around this, or am I going to be forced to restore from a backupset?

    This fails saying that "ORA-12528: TNS:listener: all appropriate instances are blocking new connections" which is quite normal given that the listener is havig a handle in BLOCKED state for this AUXDB as it is in NOMOUNT state.
    Could you please help me on how to proceed?
    One option can be to create the controlfile manually and mount the instance before doing the duplicate. I hope Rman can continue from there.
    Another option is to go for backup based duplicate.
    Is there any other way to go?
    Provide static registration on AUXILIARY side for your auxiliary instance and try again.For example change listener.ora file as
    SID_LIST_LISTENER =
      (SID_LIST =
        (SID_DESC =
          (GLOBAL_DBNAME = AUXDB)
          (ORACLE_HOME = <your oracle home>)
          (SID_NAME = AUXDB)
    LISTENER =
      (DESCRIPTION =
        (ADDRESS = (PROTOCOL = TCP)(HOST = <auxiliary host/ip>)(PORT = 1521))
      )And restart listener on auxiliary host then try again

    I am not able to restore spfile from rman backup ;;;

    Hi,
    I would like to know few things
    1. How are you setting the db_name ? you can set db_id at RMAN, how are you setting the db_name ?
    2. Do you have any default init file at default location ? if yes, is the db_name parameter set correctly in that file ?
    Since spfile is yet to be restored, you must set the db_name parameter correctly before you start spfile restore.This can be done with init file at default location which can even contain just one paremeter i.e db_name.

    No luck. The error message is different but the result is the same... it keeps failing.

  • Using RMAN restore the database on a new host in ASM

    Hello All,
    I am trying to restore a database without using RMAN database duplicate.  I want to do set new name for datafile and rename log file for online logs and change database name at last using NID.
    here are details
    source database - APSPROD / server - X
    target database -  EMERALD / Server -Y
    Compressed backup is copied to destination server and I am trying to restore database using RMAN. Here is my init.ora file
    cat initAPSPROD1.ora
    DB_NAME=APSPROD
    compatible=11.2.0.3
    sga_target=8G
    CONTROL_FILES='+DATA_DM01/EMERALD/controlfile/cntrl01.dbf','+RECO_DM01/EMERALD/controlfile/cntrl02.dbf','+DATA_DM01/EMERALD/controlfile/cntrl03.dbf'
    DB_BLOCK_SIZE=8192
    db_file_name_convert=(+DATA_DM01/APSPROD,+DATA_DM01/EMERALD)
    log_file_name_convert=(+DATA_DM01/APSPROD,+DATA_DM01/EMERALD,+RECO_DM01/APSPROD,+RECO_DM01/EMERALD)
    DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST='+RECO_DM01'
    DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE=5500G
    So from above you can see that control file should be restored to +DATA_DM01/EMERALD and +RECO_DM01/EMERALD path.
    Question -
    when I am trying to restore control file. It creates an ASM alias name in +DATA_DM01/EMERALD/controlfile/cntrl01.dbf',+RECO_DM01/EMERALD/controlfile/cntrl02.dbf',' and +DATA_DM01/EMERALD/controlfile/cntrl03.dbf' but It creates fully Qualified ASM Filename  under +DATA_DM01/APSPROD and +RECO_DM01/
    Here is output
    RMAN> restore controlfile from '/dbfs_direct/FS1/RMAN_APSPROD/cf_APSPROD_i4p4b62m_1_1

    How can I ensure that every thing gets created in +DATA_DM01/EMERALD/ or [+RECO_DM01/EMERALD??  similary for datafile restore even I have used set new file name ASM fully quilified OMF  datafile gets created under +DATA_DM01/APSPROD/

    Can you delete or move D:\APP\ADMINISTRATOR\ORADATA\ORCL\REDO01.LOG - redolog files to othere directory.
    And recover again. Because this redo log files is belonging to other database.

  • Does RMAN restore from 11.2.0.3 to 11.1.0.7?

    Hi Team,
    Interesting point is here, source is on 11.2.0.3 and somehow we missed 11.2.0 home on target (my team mate forgot to built new 11.2.0.3 home - we have 11.1.0 home), not sure how this rman restored/recovered  with no issues on target even it has compatibility change (controlfile restore itself should fail).
    Source is 11.2.0.3 and target is 11.1.0.7, presently the instance up and running with no issues, but we decided to re build with 11.2.0.3 home
    Any hints? Please advice, I am curious about this functionality how did this happen! J
