    use format command with backup.
    eg:-
    backup as compressed backupset database format '/u01/db/backup/%d_%I_%s_%T';
    if it is archivelog mode then
    backup as compressed backupset database format '/u01/db/backup/%d_%I_%s_%T' plus archivelog format '/u01/db/backup/%d_%I_%s_%T';
    then copy the backup to the auxiliary instance server.
    then try again the duplicate command.

    Hi,
    Can you please make sure the restore mechanism you are following is correct or not?
    Mechanics of Restore Operations
    RMAN automates the procedure for restoring files. You do not need to go into the operating system, locate the backup that you want to use, and manually copy files into the appropriate directories. When you issue a RESTORE command, RMAN directs a server session to restore the correct backups to either:
    * The default location, overwriting the files with the same name currently there
    * A new location, which you can specify with the SET NEWNAME command
    To restore a datafile, either mount the database or keep it open and take the datafile to be restored offline. When RMAN performs a restore, it creates the restored files as datafile image copies and records them in the repository.

    Hi,
    on 11g R2 , Win 2008, I try to duplicate by RMAN NOCATALOG.
    In init.ora of auxiliary I have :

    log_file_name_convert=('m:\base\OLDDB\log', 'm:\base\NEWDB\log') 1- when duplicating RMAN displays :
    set newname for datafile  109 to
    "M:\BASES\OLDDB\DATA\EOIUAPP.DBF";; but for me reverse is expected since M:\BASES\OLDDB\DATA\EOIUAPP.DBF is the ancient/old name.
    2-RMAN displays :

  • RMAN copy datafiles from filesystem to ASM

    DB version: 10.2.0.4
    I need to copy 650G of datafiles from filesystems to ASM. Could someone let me know how to use RMAN parallelism for this?.
    I'm using the command as below.
    backup as copy datafile '/tmp/datafile1.dbf' format '+DATA';
    backup as copy datafile '/tmp/datafile2.dbf' format '+DATA';

    I also tried the below. But, it's also running long. Each 32G datafile is taking almost 3 hours to copy into ASM.
    run {
       allocate channel ch1 type disk;
       allocate channel ch2 type disk;
       allocate channel ch3 type disk;
       allocate channel ch4 type disk;
       allocate channel ch5 type disk;
       allocate channel ch6 type disk;
       allocate channel ch7 type disk;
       allocate channel ch8 type disk;
    copy
    datafile ' 1.dbf'to '+DATA',
    datafile ' 2.dbf'to '+DATA',
    datafile ' 3.dbf'to '+DATA',
    datafile ' 4.dbf'to '+DATA',
    datafile ' 5.dbf'to '+DATA',
    ....}

  • RMAN Backup Copy format

    Hi,
    am using following rman block to take incremental backup copy for recover.
    run{
    allocate channel c1 type disk format 'd:\copy\%f';
    BACKUP INCREMENTAL LEVEL 1 FOR RECOVER OF COPY WITH TAG 'full_backup' DATABASE ;
    It creates backup under D:|COPY directory but the name of backup copy is file# of datafile. How can I take backup copy which has same name as actual data file i.e. users01.dbf?
    Thanks
    SAQ

    With an FRA defined (via DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST_SIZE and DB_RECOVERY_FILE_DEST), the command is simply
    backup incremental level 1 for recover of copy tag 'MY_TAG' database
    A FORMAT specifier is not required.

  • Backup incremental level 1 for recover of copy datafile (BLOCKING?)

    Hi,
    I recently added a datafile copy backup to the backup strategy. This is an extra backup to supplement compressed backupsets.
    The datafile copy incremental was set to run at 5 am. I noticed that a process that was set to run at the same time as the backup stalled. It normally takes a few minutes to run but it took over an hour. Enterprise Manager did not report any blocked sessions over this hour (EM is configured to do so). No notable CPU spike either during this time. this morning I have moved the datafile copy backup to
    a different time so as to avoid the 5 am job and sure enough that job completed in 6 minutes.
    Does backup incremental for recover block in some way?
    Thanks!

    The other job loads data via sql loader and PL/SQL
    Actually, no blocking was detected. I could not check the waits since the job was done by the time I was aware that there was a problem. Rescheduling the backup seems to have avoided the problem. It happened twice though. I am unaware that a backup might cause this behavior. I suspect that the "for recover" might be the source of the updates being suspended. I would not expect that though since the backup copy is being recovered (not the actual datafile)

  • If I need a full rman restore which backups will it use?

    Hello,
    I have a database 11.1.0.7 with 8TB. Block change tracking is enabled.
    At the weekend I take level 0 backup and during the week level 1 cumulative.
    For some weeks the level 0 backup is failing, so I only have level 1 cumulative backups taken every week day with a 4 weeks old level 0 backup.
    If I need a full rman restore which backups will it use? Will it be the last level 0 backup with the last level 1 cumulative?
    I ask this because grid crontrol tells me that the recent level 1 backups input size is smaller than last week level 1 backups and in between I dont have any level 0 sucessfull backups. Shouldn't the input size of level 1 cumulative increase until the next level 0 backup ?
    The grid reports:

    If I need a full rman restore which backups will it use? Will it be the last level 0 backup with the last level 1 cumulative?
    From http://download.oracle.com/docs/cd/B28359_01/backup.111/b28270/rcmvalid.htm
    Validating Backups Before Restoring Them
    You can run RESTORE ... VALIDATE to test whether RMAN can restore a specific file or set of files from a backup. RMAN chooses which backups to use.
    The database must be mounted or open for this command. You do not have to take datafiles offline when validating the restore of datafiles, because validation of backups of the datafiles only reads the backups and does not affect the production datafiles.
    When validating files on disk or tape, RMAN reads all blocks in the backup piece or image copy. RMAN also validates offsite backups. The validation is identical to a real restore operation except that RMAN does not write output files.
    You can monitor what RESTORE VALIDATE does.
    Make precautions, so you do not damage the production DB!!!

  • XTTS - problem in copying datafile into ASM

    I'm testing the migration of database from AIX to Linux using cross platform transportable tablespaces.
    DB version: source: 10.2.0.4
    Destination: 10.2.0.5
    OS version: source: AIX6.1 - AIX-Based Systems (64-bit)
    Destination: RedHat Linux - Linux x86 64-bit
    I run the below commands before copying the datafile at destination.
    EXECUTE DBMS_TTS.TRANSPORT_SET_CHECK('TBLSP1,TBLSP2', TRUE);
    SELECT * FROM TRANSPORT_SET_VIOLATIONS;
    no rows selected
    alter system archive log current;
    alter tablespace TBLSP1 read only;
    alter tablespace TBLSP2 read only;
    expdp DUMPFILE=xtts_exp.dmp DIRECTORY=DUMP_DIR logfile=xtts_exp.log TRANSPORT_TABLESPACES=TBLSP1,TBLSP2
    CONVERT TABLESPACE TBLSP1,TBLSP2
    TO PLATFORM 'Linux x86 64-bit'
    FORMAT '/dataimport/%U';/dataimport is a shared file system mounted on Linux server and am able to see the datafile over there. But, am receiving the error below when trying to copy the datafile on the linux server. Could someone let me know if I miss something / how to resolve this error.
    $rman target /
    RMAN> copy datafile '/dataimport/data_D-DBMGRT_I-3320277811_TS-TBLSP1_FNO-26_05m8miia' to '+DATA';
    Starting backup at 05-APR-11

    RMAN-06010: error while looking up datafile: /dataimport/data_D-DBMGRT_I-3320277811_TS-TBLSP1_FNO-26_05m8miia

    I don't think it's related to patchset mismatch. Yes. I moved the dump file and datafile copies to local file system also and got the same error.
    Here are the steps once again. The tablespaces are still read only on source side. How can it affect datafile copy on destination side?.

  • Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold  backup ?

    Hi Friends,
    Is it possible to Migrate Oracle 11g database from Windows To Linux using RMAN hot / cold  backup ? ( as i would like to perform Point In Time recovery)
    (or) The only way is to use RMAN convert as mentioned here  - Transporting Data Across Platforms
    (or) Is there any other method (except exp/imp and data pump)
    Regards,
    DB

    HI
    his post describes the procedure required to migrate a database from Windows to Linux using the RMAN Convert Database command.
    Both Windows and Linux platforms have the same endian format, which makes possible to transfer the whole database, making the migration process very straightforward and simple.
    To migrate between platforms that have a different endian format, Cross Platform Transportable Tablespaces (XTTS) needs to be used instead.
    List of Steps Needed to Complete the Migration
    The migration process is simple, but as it has several steps it is convenient to be familiar with them before running it.
    1. Check platform compatibility between source and target OS
    2. Start the database in read only mode
    3. Check database readiness for transport from Windows to Linux using DBMS_TDB.CHECK_DB
    4. Check if there are any external objects
    5. Execute the Rman Convert database command
    6. Copy converted datafiles, generated Transport Script and Parameter File to Linux
    7. Edit the init.ora for the new database
    8. Edit the Transport Script and Parameter File changing the windows paths to Linux Paths
    9. Execute the Transport Script
    10.Change the Database ID
    11.Check database integrity
    Thank you
