RMBP is burning hot...

Right now I'm only running Pages and Chrome (with several tabs including YouTube), and my keyboard + the aluminum part right above the function keys are burning hot....
WHy is it soooo hott

I'm actually having a similar problem on my brand new rMBP and wondering if I'm just being hyper sensitive or if it's actually running hot. I keep reading about how ice cold the rMBP runs when doing normal activities so I'm a bit concerned.
I've installed iStat pro and my laptop has now been running for a half hour. The upper keyboard keys and area above the function keys are the warm areas.
iStat readings:
HD: 35
CPU Heatsink: 43
Airport card: 39
Enclosure base: 32
Enclosure base 2: 32
Enclosure base 3: 30
GPU: 46
GPU diode: 48
right fan: 1993 rpm
left fan: 2157 rpm
97% of the cpu is idle.
If anybody who has knowledge with this could give me a heads up I'd greatly appreciate it. Should I be concerned and bringing this to the Genius Bar or is some warm in the area described something normal and to be expected?
Thanks.

my iphone battery is burning hot and the power goes to low battery in 20 minutes and charging takes all day does anyone know how to fix this or do i need to replace it for a new one, thank you

Make an appointment at the genius bar and get the phone replaced. It will cost you US$149 for an out of warranty replacement.
Do NOT keep it turned on. Do NOT use it. It is a fire hazard now.

  • Burning hot charger - should I worry?

    Hello,
I have a MacBook Pro early-2009 model. I have bought it late May this year, it came along with a charger. Right now, while charging, I noticed that it's almost burning hot - so hot that I can't keep it in my hands for long.
Not sure if it's been that way from the very beginning, as the charger used to lie on the floor and it's been the first time I've ever actually picked it up while it was on and charging. Should I worry and stop using the charger immediately (kinda afraid it might do something with my batterry or my MacBook), or is it normal for those chargers to give out excessive heat while operating?
    Many thanks,
    Dynamitri

My adapter does not utilize a cord to plug into the wall. It is being used "wall wart" style. This gives it the maximum cooling possible. Nothing is wrapped around it to insulate it and keep it hot, nor is one face of it laying on the carpeted floor.
If your power adapter is charging your depleted battery plus powering your computer doing a very CPU intensive task then it will run much much hotter than if the battery is fully charged and you are merely surfing the internet or some other very low intensity task.
If it draws too much power, getting too hot, it will blow its own internal fuse. There is virtually nothing you need to worry about. One persons "way too hot" may be another persons "fairly warm".
If you want proof of that concept look at the thread about the sharp edges on the MBP. Some people are getting great pain from something that others do not even notice.

  • 13" Macbook Pro runs burning hot in bootcamp vista?

I just got a new macbook 13". I was using my bootcamp vista and the macbook literally burned my lap. I flipped it over and the metal area, directly in the center of the macbook, was BURNING hot. Probably hot enough to cook an egg -- I know I couldn't leave my hand there for a long time. Is this normal? I'm afraid this laptop will burn my legs or cause other heat related issues...

Make sure you have Vista and the BootCamp drivers up to date, but Apple doesn't recommend using a portable computer in your lap:
    From the MacBook Care page:
+For prolonged use, place your MacBook on a flat, stable surface. Do not place your MacBook on your lap or other body surface for extended periods of time. Prolonged body contact can cause discomfort and potentially a burn. The bottom of the MacBook case functions as a cooling surface that transfers heat from inside the computer to the cooler air outside. The bottom of the case is raised slightly to allow airflow, which keeps the unit within normal operating temperatures. In addition, warm air is vented from the slots in the back of the case.+

  • 3GS gets burning hot during calls

For some reason, and ONLY OCCASIONALLY, my iPhone 3GS gets burning hot during phone calls. I'm definitely in a 68 degree cool environment, no direct sun, my phone was cold to the touch when I picked it up. But by 10 minutes into the call it's nearly too hot to touch. There's something about CERTAIN CALLS that this happens on. Other calls will be just fine. Often I can hang up with the person, call them back and the phone is fine.
I've even had the phone thermal-shutdown on me in the middle of a call, because of ITS OWN - SELF GENERATED heat.
Naturally this rips battery life to shreds. I get about 15 minutes of talk and I'm done. Even ON CHARGER, it continues to lose battery and will shut down. So the phone module is drawing more power than USB charging can replace.
How do I fix this? Or is the iPhone just junk?

Make an appointment at the Genius Bar - http://apple.com/retail/geniusbar . The heat is coming from your battery.

  • IPod touch burning hot

My iPod touch is burning hot to touch while charging and has 2 burn marks on the right side

That is far from normal, take the Touch to an Apple store genius bar to be tested by the techs to see what is going wrong.  It should not be too hot to touch at any time.

  • Finder eating 298 % cpu, top of the keyboard burning hot!

I have a brand new MacBook Pro (Intel Core i7, 2.66 GHz),
    with a freshly installed MacOS X 10.6.3 .
Since a few days I noticed that the blower is regularly
running at maximum speed. The top of my keyboard is burning hot.
Through Activity Monitor, I found that the Finder is consumming
298 % of CPU, and the 4 processors are used.
Its real memory size is 60 Mb, ans its virtual memory size is 2.75 Gb.
    <pre>/var/log/system.log</pre>doesn't show any abnormal behaviour.
If I "Relaunch" the Finder, the blower nearly immediately slows down,
and the Finder restart at a level of 0 % CPU, 17 Mb real mem. and 54 Mb
    virtual mem..
I'm still hunting down the cause of this huge problem.
How may I analyse down this problem?

Do a reinstall of the system with original disk then upgrade by combo to 10.6.3.
I've just made the 10.6.3 install from the original disks last week.
I'm not that specialist of DVD feeding I will sustain such a rate of
system reinstall . A system reinstall is nearly half a day of wasted
time, and I have to work with my computer.
The horrible part of this heavy process is that I'm pretty sure to
come back on the same bug. The only difference will be an half day
    of wasted work.

  • Macbookpro gets burning hot!

My Macbook Pro gets unbelievably hot whenever I watch a video, especially when I watch it in HD. Is this normal behavior? I'm concerned of the actual hotness level. It literarily burns.

The aluminum case of the MBP acts as a heat sink to dissipate heat from the computer. You should not use the computer on a bed or other such soft surface. If you are using it on your lap place it on a piece of board or one of the USB fan devices. Otherwise the heat will build up in the computer.

  • Burning Hot

Ok...ever since I got my iMac about a year ago, it has always ran very hot when it is on for long periods of time. I hear some people say they never even put their computers to sleep, I think if I did that, my computer would catch fire.
At the very top of the iMac, if I place my hand on it, it's literally so hot that it will burn your hand if you leave it on it for too long. Is this supposed to be happening? I've had no performance issues with it and it's run great since I've bought it, just always ran very very hot.
Problems? I'm still under AppleCare, should this be something I should ask about?

It is normal because starting with the Late 2009 models Apple went to an all aluminum "unibody" case for the iMac. Before that they had a largely plastic shell with some aluminum siding/bezel. The new cases conduct heat OUT of the system much more efficiently, which is what you're feeling.
The entire case is functioning as a giant secondary heatsink/spreader.
And just a few lessons you appear to have forgotten from high school level chemistry/physics. Heat rises, heat travels from hot to cold, and not all materials are equal when it comes to conducting thermal energy.
Now, you could say that Apple has done a poor job of educating owners about this apparent change in behavior, and you'd have a fair point. But the simple fact of the matter here is that there is NOTHING WRONG.
Here's a little science experiment you can do if you don't believe me. Get a pot of water, and put it on the stove. Turn the stove on, and put your finger into the water. Leave it there until it's uncomfortable. How long does it take? Maybe 5-10 minutes? How long do you think it would take for the heating coil UNDER the pot of water to heat up enough to burn you? The heating coil is made up of a material that gives up heat much more readily than water. It will feel hotter to the touch, even if it's at exactly the same temperature as the water. The coil has less thermal resistance. That's why heatsinks usually use a material like copper for the core, as opposed to say iron. You want a material that will absorb and release heat readily, and iron is the opposite of that, just like plastic.
So, here's another simple science experiment, since we know heat runs from hot to cold, and when something feels cold it's because it's absorbing heat from your hand. We perceive that transfer of energy as cold. So go get a can of pop/soda out of the fridge. That aluminum can feels pretty cold, doesn't it? And it doesn't take very long to get uncomfortably cold, does it? That's the exact same principle you're complaining about, only in reverse.
And feel free to ask any high school science teacher about any of this. They'll tell you what I've said is factually correct. College physics professors, college chemistry professors, anyone who's taken a couple of college chemistry or physics classes... They will all tell you the same thing. And people question the value of all those general education classes you have to take to graduate! THIS is the value, right here. That knowledge, plus maybe 10-15 seconds worth of thought putting it all together, would have provided the answer to this before there was ever a need to post.

  • Just received iPhone 6 and it's burning hot after 3 min use

I pre-ordered iPhone 6 from Verizon and received it on 9/19/2014. After I activated the phone, the phone already became very hot. I stopped using it, it cooled down a little bit. When I used it again, it was heating again. Is it defective?

You will always be asked to update your device to the latest iOS. This is standard procedure for any issue or problem which occurs with any device. If you ever read any support articles from Apple for troubleshooting problems, the first thing that is always listed is to make sure you are running the latest version of the software. You'd be amazed at how often this resolves the issue. If it does not in your case, then that particular piece of the troubleshooting process has been executed and proven not to be contributing.
That's why they asked you to upgrade. Hope it all turns out for the best.
    Cheers,

  • BURNING HOT BATTERY

I have a Powerbook G4. The battery gets so hot, that I cannot use it as a laptop.
The space about the number keys are untouchable.
All of this happens even when not using the dvd player.
    What should I do?

    Welcome to Apple Discussions!
    Some heat is normal.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=30612
    explains that.
As for the battery, there is this replacement program:
    http://depot.info.apple.com/batteryexchange/
See if yours applies to that.
If not, and your machine is under AppleCare, run the hardware test which came with the computer's restore disks like this one:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=86287
If it detects an issue with the fans or the RAM, have those looked at by AppleCare. If you installed third party RAM, see if the issue persists without the third party RAM according to the hardware test.

  • G550 2958 battery burning hot in hibernate?

I've had my G550 2958 since late October. Been thrilled overall.
Today, after the machine went into hibernate, it began chirping quietly at ~1 minute intervals. When I felt it in my laptop bag, the battery was searing hot.
After getting it home, it wouldn't boot. Finally, after letting it cool and plugging it in to AC, it started up. Battery was completely depleted. The machine had only been in hibernate for two hours, so I was surprised.
I've had battery woes before on much older machines. I'm quite concerned that this would be happening so early.
Should I apply my warranty and shoot for new parts? Rather worried.
    Any advice much appreciated.

Hmmm, so my efforts to call were met with:
    1) A 30-minute hold time culminating in a dead line.
    2) Another epic hold with no response.
Is there a time to call when they're more prone to pick up?
