RMI JNDI Lookup in ServletContextListener

Hi,
I am attempting to do a JNDI lookup (using the RMIInitialContextFactory) of a session EJB inside a ServletContextListener. But when I do I get an exception saying it cannot find the name I lookup. If I set rmi.debug to true I can see that a 'SocketException: Socket closed' is caught internally. I can also see from the RMI debug that the attempt to load the EJB interface class fails because it is trying to use the application server's classloader and not the web applications classloader. If I put the JAR containing the interface class into the applib directory none of the above occurs.
Should I be able to do the JNDI lookup within the SerlvetContextListener? Is this a bug?

This exception only appears once I turn rmi.debug on. Like I said previously if I put the EJB interfaces JAR into applib it does not occur.

    This appears to be because iAS is using JAZN security and is not allowing an anonymous lookup from BAM.
    I can't see anywhere in Architect or Administrator where I can configure a username/password for authentication with my iAS install...
    Has anyone any advice?

    2. Configured all of the startup parameters required for Enterprise Message Source Type (Oracle (AS JMS and OJMS)) in the Administrator of BAM.
    3. Configured the Oracle (AS JMS and OJMS) with the following values in the Enterprise Message Sources in the Architect of BAM.
    Initial Context Factory : com.evermind.server.rmi.RMIInitialContextFactory.
    JNDI Service Provider URL : opmn:ormi://inaportal.inatech.com:6004:home.

    One java client is a straight-forward java main. JNDI lookup is returning EJBHome_Stub correctly loaded by sun.rmi.server.LoaderHandler$Loader
    The other java client is a complex java program with multiple threads and many jars. A thread does the same JNDI lookup as the simple java client, but the object returned is of type com.sun.corba.se.internal.iiop.CDRInputStream_1_0$1 which has NULL classloader (bootstrap classloader).
    What condition triggered the WebLogic InitialContext to default to com.sun.corba.se.internal.iiop.CDRInputStream?

    I am using the weblogic cluster with session replication and EJB 2.0 with Local entity beans.
    for fail-over session should be replicated to another server so we can achive the same session if 1st server fails.
    Suppose i m using two managed server(server1,server2) in the cluster.I am storing the object of class ABC into session and object contains the instance of Local-EntityBean home but i put that as a transient.I have also override the readObject and write object method.
    when write object is called on 1st server,readObject method should be called on second server so we will be sure that session is replicating properly.

  • Looking for tips on a OC4J/JNDI lookup problem

    I am running into a situation where a user I have setup in Oracle Enterprise Manager 10G Instance Level Security is not able to access our JNDI resources. We have tried providing all the roles(including administrators) to this user, but to no success. For some reason it works in standalone though.
    Our exception is fired when deploying the application and the spring configuration tells the app to fetch the jms connection factory from JNDI.

    I wonder if there is a specific role that OC4J is looking for to allow the app to use JNDI? One thread I read earlier mentioned granting the user RMI permission. Any tips on where this could be configured?

Is it that the JNDI lookup failed when one of my beans tried to do a lookup on 'ejb/TEDIObjectManagerLocal'? I believe there's some configuration that went wrong (EJB reference binding or something) when I deployed the EAR. The reason I don't think it's a faulty code is because the EAR runs like a charm when I deploy it on Oracle 10g and Weblogic.
    I am really stuck on this problem and shall appreciate any help that I can get. I can send the code, xdoclet tags and configuration if that might assist someone.

    using 'ejb/TEDIObjectManagerLocal'. I also tried using 'local:ejb/ejb/TEDIObjectManagerLocal' (as Karthyk suggested) and
    'java:comp/env/ejb/TEDIObjectManagerLocal', but that does not work
    either.

    There's one other similar binding that works for 'TEDIObjectManager'

    Everything in ejb-jar and ibm-ejb-jar-bnd.xmi look similar for this working bean, there is one difference though, I do the lookup on this one using 'java:comp/env/ejb/TEDIObjectLocal', but I've already tried that for the other one.

  • Doing a jndi lookup() for an EJB deployed on Glassfish v3

    Hello.
    I have deployed a Stateful Sesion EJB on a Glassfish v3 AppServer.
    It is running under 'localhost' on my laptop pc.
    I am also running a stand-alone java application on the same pc... it attempts to get a remote connection from the client-app to the Glassfish Server and then do a jndi lookup() to get a reference to my EJB.
    here is the client source code:

    When I run this app, there are no Errors or Exceptions. It appears that the connection succeeds. But there are no EJB references in the context that is created. The only item that seems to be present in the context is an item named "SerialContextProvider", as noted in the return value from a list("") method invocation. Why can i not see the EJB within the context? Is my code wrong ??

    Ok, but the communication seems to be OK over the wire because if I use netstat -a I can see the ESTABLISHED connection with the server in the right RMI port.

    and then when I stop the instance in the OAS, the client shows an exception telling that the connection was lost.
    An curious thing is that the ons.log doesn't log this connection ;/

    I have had this nagging question in my head about JNDI lookups for some time
    now, but haven't had the time to do the proper research. The question is
    simple.
    The setup is simple as well. Suppose that we have a typical WLS setup, with
    WLS running in a JVM on a server host somewhere, with objects bound to its
    JNDI tree (we'll leave clustering out of the picture for simplicity's sake),
    and we also have a WLS client Java application. The client connects to WLS
    and performs various JNDI lookups on the server. Some of these objects
    implement java.io.Serializable, some do not.
    The question is, if the client uses JNDI to lookup an object that exsts in a
    separate JVM, and that object does not implement Serializable, how does this
    object come to be instantiated on the client?
    This leads to a second question: What exactly is getting returned from a
    JNDI lookup? A reference to an object or a copy of it? I can see that
    lookups within a single JVM would return a reference, but the cross-JVM
    lookup is less clear to me.

    When you are running within an Oracle Application Server managed OC4J environment, then you should use the OPMN protocol loader we have that will insulate you from the specified ORMI port being used by OC4J.
    The OPMN port is fixed so you can always rely on it, whereas the specific ORMI port used by an OC4J instance changes depending on the startup sequence, the number of procs configured, etc.

    The OPMN host name and port number is retrieved from the opmn.xml file. In most cases, OPMN is located on the same machine as the OC4J instance. However, you must specify the host name in case it is located on another machine. The OPMN port number is optional; if excluded, the default is port 6003. The OPMN port is specified in opmn.xml.

  • JNDI Lookup failing in specific instances

    We have an application deployed to OC4J 9.0.4.1 - the application consists of a collection of local/remote session beans and nearly 100 entity beans.
    We are calling a local session bean and local entity bean from a remote SB. Now in most cases our JNDI lookups work fine, however some specific ones do not.
    The following are our JNDI specific properties :

    I got it working a couple of days ago. First I tried manually but could not get it working, then I found this description of how to do it using the Enterprise Manager and then it worked. Check: http://download-uk.oracle.com/docs/cd/B31017_01/integrate.1013/b28994/adptr_db.htm#BDCFIEDJ
    I defined a connection pool, a datasource and connection factory. In 6 step you should use a DbAdapter instead of an AppsAdapter, and don't put anything in dataSourceName. I choose No Connection Pool for the connection factory.

  • NamingException on EJB jndi lookup

    I have two applications - deployed under the "default instance".
    When I start up OC4J and deloy app1 and app2, then app1 can do a JNDI lookup on a session bean that resides in App2. It uses the RMIInitialContextFactory.
    Provider is "ormi://localhost/app2"
    My problem is that if I undeploy and redeploy app2, then app1 suddenly can't do a lookup to any sessionBean found in app2 anymore, even though the jndi name still shows up in the browser, and if I try to look it up from an external application running outside of oc4j (with exactly the same code as I'm using in app1), it also works.
    So why is app1 not able to find app2 via jndi after a redeployment?

    First of all, I run on Suse Linux 10.1. Dunno if that's any help, but hey, more info can't help :)
    Let's answer your questions:

    As for your suggestions:
    1.) app1 = parent of app2.
    I'm rather new to Oracle, so maybe I made a mistake during my investigations. Still, I'd like to give a breakdown: I built a framework-type application, and thought about deploying "child modules" (plug-in applications) underneath it, as you proposed.
    This worked fine, but there comes a problem whenever you try to use something like Hibernate in any application that's not deployed in the root (ie any app that's deployed as a child of another). The problem came in 2 flavours:
    A) If you use a jar in the parent and try to do resource loading from the child, the context of the parent is used the whole time. Since the search-policy of the class-loader is loaded->parent->shared->local, and if Hibernate is already used in the parent, it never gets to the child and thus trying to load a resource in the child is futile since parent can't see child context.
    B) Lets say you're not using Hibernate at all in the parent application. When doing resource loading (eg the hibernate.cfg.xml file), Hibernate tries to locate the resource via Thread.currentThread().getContextClassLoader(). OC4J returns the parent-app's thread as the currentThread, NOT that of the child-application that you're actually running the code from, thus it will never be able to pick up resources from within a jar part of the child application. The only way that I managed to get it to work, was to include the Hibernate3.jar as part of the EAR deployment (ie listed it as <library path...> in the orion-application.xml. Putting it in shared-libs or app-libs didn't work...ever. Also, if I happened to use Hibernate in the parent-application, it doesn't matter if I put hibernate3.jar in the EAR of the child - the parent-version gets picked up and used due to the search-policy... NOTE: This is in a JAR - I'm not using WAR's so cannot force local loading as is possible with web-apps...
    I then opted to deploy applications seperately under the root, and using RMI to communicate from the framework-application to its "modules", and vice-versa. The master doesn't know the exact type of the remote interface of whatever child-module it needs to call, so it uses reflection to call the "create" on the EJBHome of whatever child-module it needs to invoke as well as the method on the actual remote-interface.
    Please note, if I deploy both applications (master and child), and perform JNDI lookups from master to child, it works perfectly. As soon as I do a redeploy (or explicity undeploy, deploy), JNDI fails. External clients, though, works all the time. Also, if I redeploy the child before ever calling it from the parent-application, it also works after I did redeployment. It's as if, when you do a JNDI lookup the first time, it caches something and from there on it breaks if you do a redeploy and perform a consequent app-to-app JNDI lookup...
    2.) dedicated.rmicontext=true
    I tried this by setting it as a JNDI property before getting the InitialContext - makes no difference, unfortunately.
