RNR and CSS upgrade

I have tried upgrading Rescue Recovery 3.0 and Client Security 6.0. I am unable to delete these to upgrade to RNR 4 and CSS 8. Now I can not get the Password Mgr working for websites etc. and I was not unable to find a compatible replacement.

A1)you say that you have an OEM version of xp?does it belong to lenovo?did it come with your system??you can usually use such kind of cd's with recovery cd set you obtain with your computer.
regarding your other query no you cannot use the key from the COA sticker on your system to install the OEM version of xp you have
A2)if you want to create recovery media in the future and ensure that the hidden partition is created then you have to make the recovery media from the hidden partition of your system only
A3)if you install the OEM verison of xp(which OEM does it belong to?)you have to activate your system manually that would mean you are not using a licensed copy of windows coz that OEM cd was not intented to be installed on your system
if you clearly read the EULA of microsoft you can notice that xp can be installed only on one pc at a time..so i think you got my point
A4)regarding the thinkwantage technologies issue yeah you may be able to install the power option and all no doubt...the bios does not check whether its your xp or not for that purpose
A5)but if you do use the xp(OEM) one which you intend to install the BIOS will check for it.......rememebr your copy of windows you obtained from lenovo is PRE-ACTIVATED at the factory itself.......
A6)in any case use the recovery cds from the xp you have from lenovo aka the hidden partition in the future if you want to reformat every thing the hidden partition will be created by the lenovo recovery discs once again.IF YOU USE OTHER XP CD YOU MAY NOT BE ABLE TO CREATE A RECOVERY PARITION ON THE NEW HDD

Upgraded from 2.2.1 to 3.1.2. The upgrade went fine but most JS and CSS seems to be broken.

Version 3.1.2 seems to have changed stuff around. I tried creating symbolic links from htmldb_html_elements.js -> apex_3_1.js and htmldb_get.js -> apex_get_3_1.js and this got me past the Undefined errors but now I get 'apex is not defined'.
Is there a quick way to upgrade all the applications to the new way of doing things? I am not looking forward to modifying all my page templates!

Sorry, my fault, my database got refreshed from one containing Apex v 2.2.1 without my knowledge and the OHS images folder was still pointing to the that from the 3.1.2 distribution. This was causing the problem. When I upgraded Apex to v3.1.2 again, everything is back to normal.
The #HEAD# substitution string in my page templates automatically pulls in the appropriate JS/CSS libraries

4.2 "Include Standard JavaScript and CSS" option removed ?

APEX 4.2, Oracle 11g r2.
I was using the option *"Include Standard JavaScript and CSS"* from the page attributes. It was set to *"No"* in all pages as I manage my own JQuery versions.
We upgraded to 4.2 yesterday, and I see the option is still here on 4.2.
I simply tried to set it to "Yes" for a test, but now the option has disappeared !! I can't set it back to "No"...
In each page, if I set it to "Yes" and apply changes, the option is not here when I go back to the page attributes.
Bug ?
Or maybe this option has been removed from 4.2 ?

Hi,
yes this has intentionally been removed for applications / pages which do not use the feature. As you mentioned yourself and what we have seen from other customers is that someone doesn't just want to exclude that on a single page and instead want to control it for the application. Which made it a little bit cumbersome, because a developer had to set it for each new page.
That's why we have created a page template placeholder for *#APEX_JAVASCRIPT#* and *#APEX_CSS#* to give you full control where to load the APEX libraries and if you don't want to load them, just remove them from the page template as Vikram already pointed out.

Css upgrades in CS3

Hi All,
About to redesign or company website.
A lot of the site is complicated layouts, we ahve used tables
in the past, and css with varying results.
Is CS3 more usable / effective in dreamweaver, and do I need
to upgrade fireworks to make it work best.
Would you do the upgrade for on (important) site?

You mean CSS? It's been usable/effective since DW8, really.
It's usually
the operator that is not so effective as opposed to the

DW. If you are comfortable with CSS, then DWCS3 will be a
dream.

Vertical menu using javascript and css

Hi all,
I have to build a vertical top-level menu for a customer. for a few days I surfing the internet to find a good sample. The only sample I found is http://javascript.internet.com/navigation/expanding-menu.html. this is what the customer wants. But this sample has just one level of subitems. I need a sample or source with dynamical levels of subitems. I'am not so formiliar with javascript and css to build it by my own very quickly.
Has someone a sample for me or can someone change the sample so that I can use it in my toplevel menu.

       Are you trying to implement this vertical menu at Portal's Top Level Navigation? If so, please be aware that these menu's might run into issues which SAP will not support.
        Also, there might be issues with upgrades on your portal. We have encountered the same for your client implementation and had to finally decided against the idea until SAP released their own version.

How to import programmatically an APEX images file using workspace images option and CSS files to APEX?

I am importing a images file programmatically into APEX. And also a CSS file.
I want to add an images file to my APEX instance but I want to choose the option -- workspace images --. How does one do that programmatically via the APEX API e.g.?
I don't want the images tied to an application within APEX.
Does one do the same thing for CSS files that are imported to APEX?

This is interesting and helpful, I use the following code to import my APEX database application and run it via SQL*Plus and it works fine for database applications -- what do I need to change/add/modify in order to load the images and CSS files? NOTE: I want the images to be -- Workspace images -- not tied to any application. Also, I need to handle the situation where the images and CSS data already exist in the APEX environment as well as when they are not there (i.e. initial install). Usually it is a case where it is an upgrade so the data already exists in the APEX app and just needs to be updated.

HTML 5 and CSS 3 Support In Dreamweaver CS5

I cannot find any information on this web site about whether and how Dreamweaver CS5 supports HTML 5 and CSS 3. There are lots of other fancy high-end whiz-bang technologies highlighted in CS5, but without support for HTML 5 and CSS 3, Adobe has left a great big hole in the middle of the new Dreamweaver. If I'm going to have to code these by hand, then there's little incentive for me to upgrade from CS4. Adobe may, by this oversight, intend to extend the useful life of Flash, but if this is so it's penny wise and pound foolish. There is much to like about Flash - and much to dislike about how it works on the user side. Leaving these problems unresolved hurts Flash, and leaving HTML 5 and CSS 3 support out of Dreamweaver hurts Dreamweaver. In other words, this is a lose-lose strategy.

Sorry for the delay in replying, but I turn my internet connection off when working, otherwise I have found I tend to do more research than work.
Media-Queries:
I had viewed the video on the possible implementation of media-queries when it was first released, and in most respects the implementation is as I would expect, but it would be helpful if it was, (in a future development of the use) possible to show a list of 'common' smartphone/handheld devices, (makes/models) within the dreamweaver interface that would be usable with the screen size being used, (possibly as an import from the 'device central' device list as a drop-down list). My reason for asking for this feature is primarily as a time saving feature for the css layouts via media-queries as it would then show the targeted/usable devices in a list, and possibly alleviate the requirement of developing layouts that are not really required.
Video:
At the moment I am using the video feature as you have indicated where possible, and am doing so with the use of IECC's for IE as a fall-back for that browser. I have tried targeting versions if Firefox and Safari that support the video element by testing for it with JavaScript, but I have found this unreliable, possibly when the standard is finalized this may be the better method.
SVG:
I personally have decided to go with svg in preference to canvas. I have seen a few 'wow' factor demo's produced using canvas but as they use cross-compiled java to javascript code they are in reality showing nothing that has not been done before, (If we had 4Ghz processors with multi-core in 1999 similar trial graphics in vml would have worked just as good then, showing my age here!).
My current work-flow with svg is - Inkscape - Modify the code by hand/preview in a browser - copy/past the code into dreamweaver.
The current in-line implementation of svg's in the IE9 preview is where I see the main future of the svg implementations, as this makes using svg's for graphic elements and basic animations much more viable/easier for the average designer/developer, and lets not forget that as it is a vector it is ideal for resizeable background images in fluid/liquid layouts.
I should say here, that I will for the foreseeable future use flash/swf's for more complex animations, as these are still much better quality than anything that can be achieved with svg or canvas.
I would like to see the possibility of using Fireworks for the creation of svg's, and a work flow similar to that available between fireworks and dreamweaver at the moment.
Cache manifest and database:
As you have rightly grouped these two together, (and I cannot really envision a situation that they would not be used so) the situation with these is for me, (when trying to create the code for use) the necessity of 'remembering' what I must include in the cache and the transfer of the data for the database.
Both are probably better explained with a typical scenario -
A new research/development firm has developed the technology and parts to upgrade an autos internal combustion engine to an hydrogen powered engine. However the products list is specific to the motor manufacturers engine type, and to make matters worse the sales department also wishes an off-line version of the demos and parts list to be available to its sales team and customers, (o/k, maybe this is not a typical scenario, but it does demonstrate the usage).
When developing the 'custom' html 5' enabled page I would require the cache manifest to include all necessary javascript/images/videos that would be required for the particular auto manufacturer to be available off-line, and compiling the list must be done at present by hand making it subject to possible errors.
As for the database, (manufacturer specific) this must also be available off-line and updateable by the sales person and customer, as they are not always on-line and no hard-copys of material will be produced, (except when printed by the mechanic).
My solution for me regarding the cache manifest would possibly be a dialogue in dreamweaver that would show all resources associated with the auto manufacturers model type used in the html site. I have used namespaces, (or some form of identifier) for general and model specific javascript, and a model identifying code for images and videos. The dialogue would then allow me to filter the resources required using the namespaces and identifier and include them in the list as required, possibly in much the same way that items are moved from a general list to a more specific list when creating the 'favourites' toolbar in dreamweaver.
The database is on first appearance much simpler, as I would simply download the database using the motor_id as a filter, (yes Scott, you can see where I am going with this ) for those who cannot this would be wrong. You have correctly seen the problem with doing this, but I will explain for those who have not. The sales person and the customer would not see any of the images or videos that have references stored in the database, as these are just references and not the actual images/videos, yes one could use 'BLOB' for storing the items but this is not in my experience a reliable method. What is required is some form of method that would also download these items and place them into the required file position for off-line viewing, (which is what the cache manifest would do).
So I would also require the possibility to add dynamically to the cache manifest from an sql database at the same time as the 'save for off-line' option is generated, (I have experimented with doing this in a similar manner that xml is created from an sql database).
That's it for the html 5.
Accessibility:
For checking I use the firefox accessibility extension and total validator extension first, then the WAVE evaluation tool.
But for Dreamweaver I would like to see the inclusion of the ARIA options as standard, especially when developing 'rich-internet-applications' particularly the aria-live and role options. I often find it interesting in discussions about html 5 where it is seen by many as a 'new' mark-up' language for the web, but rarely seen in the context of helping in accessibility when used correctly. Even the html 5 spec contains a section on using the new mark-up as part of accessibility and how the ARIA roles should be applied, (see - http://www.whatwg.org/specs/web-apps/current-work/multipage/content-models.html#annotation s-for-assistive-technology-products-%28aria%29).
The inclusion of an extra live-view option in dreamweaver that render the page in 'screen reader' mode would also be a possible accessibility checking help. This could be done by simply turning off the background-images 'on-mass' and rendering any items as they would be seen by a screen reader. As most screen readers do now parse JavaScript and css, it would illustrate the problems of using such techniques as light-boxes without using the aria-live role to tell users that the light-box in now the focus of the page.
For anyone who has stayed with this post, my sincere thanks, and any comments on the content would be welcome.

X61 Service Partion, RnR and NTLDR problems

If possible, I would like to get RnR up to the latest, and also liven up the Thinkvantage button. Right now it does not work. I may decide to abandon RnR and perhaps use TrueImage instead. Here's some background.
I tried to upgrade to RnR 4.2 but the system complained about the following:
Error 25013.Error obtaining the Rescue and Recovery environment drive letter.
Error 25012.Error accessing the Rescue and Recovery service partition.
I have successfully been able to backup with RnR 4.1, but can't start a restore or other activities using the Thinkvantabe blue button or F11. I can restore from my recovery CD (seemingly based on 4.2); however, though I was able to complete the process, the system complained that my backups were made with an earlier version.
In search of a fix to this, I created the RnR Recovery Repair diskette referred to here http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.php?t=56398&highlight=service+partition ; however, this rendered XP unbootable, and didn't fix the missing NTLDR message that appears when doing F11 or Thinkvantage button.
Upon further experimentation, it turned out that the system wasn't recognizing my hard drive any longer (after the RnR Recovery Repair process). I was able to get XP to boot when using Partition Commander software and then making my XP boot partition active. Thinkvantage and F11 doesn't work, in spite of trying various options in the Recovery Repair diskette.

I believe order wise in respect to partions the boot partion is the last one. See below.

Should I give up? I have done enough customization to my computer that I don't want to restore to original XP state from the recovery disks. If that's the only answer, I will abandon RnR.

I have had a good few adventures with RnR, but now have it working fine and reliably. If I had a copy of TrueImage I would probably switch over, as it is a superior product. However, I don't, and TrueImage is expensive.
I imagine that the repartitioning that you made has played havoc with the boot arrangement. The bootmgr supplied with RnR does not seem to like repartitioning. The service partition should be at the beginning by default (?). It is not huge (7GB on 160GB is not really significant) and so is unlikely to rob performance.
Someone here can probably give you a nitty gritty solution but I would be inclined to image the system partition either with Ghost (with -id switch) or with RnR if you can successfully copy the backup to network drive or external HD (make a copy of the copy just in case). Then I would wipe the system with a factory reinstall using recovery disks (you made them right?) and blast the system partition with the image previously made with RnR.
This would obviously take a lot of time but shouldn't require much research or user input. If you do try to reblast with an RnR network attached backup, be sure to 1) backup the RRBackups folder before connecting with the reinstalled system and 2) format the system drive before reinstalling contents from backup (with OS recovery disk of new installation - in your case XP)

I am on windows 7 and I upgraded to 10.0.2 and now it will not open. I have removed firefox completely and uploaded it again and that did not work. So my latest attempt I removed firefox 10 again and uploaded the beta version and once again nothing.

I think when uninstalling you may also have to choose (tick) to delete the preferences and other personal data like the bookmarks, stored passwords etc. to erase completely. If you are installing afresh, please try right-clicking on the file and '''Run as administrator''' to install. And when uninstalling, please also make sure choose to delete all data and also manually delete any '''Mozilla''', '''Mozilla Firefox''' or '''Firefox''' from %appdata%, %localappdata% and %programfiles%. You can open a location by typing for eg. %appdata% in the '''Run''' box (Windows key + R). You may also have to check the '''VirtualStore''' folder in %localappdata%. Files in the VirtualStore can be problematic. I think a clean installation may help.

PL/SQL Server Pages (PSPs) and CSS

I am used to creating standards compliant websites using XHTML and CSS and some other application language for dynamic content. I have recently started working with PL/SQL and want to create an application using PSPs. I was wondering the best way to go about including CSS in an application, because it doesn't make sense to duplication the CSS on each page, but since the PSP is converted to a procedure this seesm to be the only way to include CSS?
Any ideas on best practice for using CSS with PSPs?

I think you should be able to put all your CSS into a single file, or only a few files, like in a normal web project and that you can include this file using the regular HTML tag.
You store your CSS file(s) in a folder that is accessible by your website. Normally this is achieved by adding an Alias in the Apache webserver that is embedded in the Oracle database.
If I remember it correctly (it has been a while since I saw the embedded webserver) your request for your PSP goes to an url like http://your.server.com/pls/your_page. Everything of the url that comes after /pls/ is handled by the mod_plsql Apache module that is repsonsible for sending the request to the database and returning the result to the screen.
If you can define an alias like 'css' (without the quotes), which makes the url something like http://your.server.com/css/, then you can try to include your CSS file(s) referring to /css/file.css. Once you get this working, you can do the same for images.
This is a generic approach that can get you started hopefully.

Warranty and User Upgrades

I'm thinking about buying my first Mac. I'm a power user, a programmer, and I like to tinker with my machine. I've used primarily pre-built Windows boxes over the years, though I've built one of my machines and upgraded the others a few times. I noticed that Apple hardware can be expensive, so I was thinking of buying a baseline Mac Pro system, and then upgrading the RAM (I know about the big heatsink issue) and later the HDs and video card.
How does Apple handle warranty support for when the end-user does the upgrades herself with third-party hardware? I heard that it doesn't void the warranty on the entire machine (unless it shorts out everything :P), but what if something goes wrong? How good are they at honoring the warranty and how much of my warranty will be voided as I do the upgrades?
I never really considered a Mac before because it was impossible to upgrade myself.

If you look at the tabs on this window, there is "Manuals" and if you click there, you will see the "DIY" Do It Yourself Guides to upgrades you can do: RAM, disk drives, PCI Express, video and optical drives. We all wonder about some of that.
It is when you modify the case, the design, or attempt to over clock memory, bus or cpu etc that you are "on your own." or use flashed components.
They have helped make it easier to run Windows, and Intel hardware supports virtualization which helps too, so you can run multiple virtual machines.
However, asking for or talking about rumors, future products and features, you won't or shouldn't find much on Apple's own Discussions. But lots of help in any and all DIY type upgrades.

It sounds like you or someone else hacked the phone to unlock it. Updating it locked it to the original carrier.
How did you unlock it? The ONLY legitimate way is to ask the carrier it is locked to to unlock it. Any other way requires hacking or jailbreaking the phone.

I am unable to update my album art since I commenced using match (and after upgrading to Yosemite). How can I 'unembed' old cover art and replace?

I am unable to update my album art on my iMac since I started using Match (and after upgrading to Yosemite 10.10.3). A message advises that it's not possible to removed old artwork if it's embedded. How can I 'unembed' old cover art and replace?

Normally artwork recovered with iTunes is stored as a separate artwork file and iTunes refers to that file to display artwork when you click on a track. However, if you then copy the file to another player the artwork file is left behind and the track will not display the artwork on the other player. To get around this it is possible to embed the artwork in the music file itself so it always travels with the file. Artwork can be embedded by you or files from third party sources may arrive with embedded artwork. iTunes apparently now won't replace artwork for such files. You can accomplish this by completely deleting artwork for a file or set of files in Get Info, then getting iTunes to fetch artwork which will then be set as a reference file rather than being embedded.
I use an old iTunes so unless you are using an ancient iTunes it won't help for me to give you great details. To erase artwork I simply get info on a series of files and check the box next to the artwork box without adding any artwork and close. To do it for single file I Get Info, go to the artwork display tab and click delete. My wife and I upgraded our computers to OSX Mavericks and now she has all my information on her computer. How can we solve this problem. We do not share our Info with each other. This is terrible. Please help asap. Thanking you in advance Larry

When my wife and I upgraded to OSX Mavericks the person I was talking to on apple support said I could use My apple ID and password to up grade on my wife's computer also. Well after we got finished she had all my Info from my computer on hers. It took about 6 hours to install the whole upgrade. They said if you have any problems just to call back and we will help. Here it is on a Sunday and I call every 5 minutes and all I get is a busy signal. If they are not open on Sunday's then why don't the just say so.The number I keep calling is 1-888-263-3394.I don't understand anything about iCloud, maybe thats why all my Info is on hers to. Larry

My wife uses my Apple ID and password to download and install all her software because that way we only pay for it once and get essentially a family license. Otherwise we would each have to purchase and pay for our own copy. However, that only applies when we are purchasing software from the App Store or the iTunes store. We each have our own individual iCloud accounts where we store our personal Contact, Calendar, and other data. You can change the Apple ID on your wife's computer by going to System Preferences > Accounts and choosing her account then clicking on Apple ID: Set.
Now if you want to make things more intertwined you and your wife can share your contacts, calendars etc with one another with read only or read write priveleges.

I am new to mac's and have upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion but......

I am new to mac's and have upgrade from Snow Leopard to Lion but not all my application will work. Is it save to reinstall using original snow leopard dvd and does it wipe all my other application like apature? I am in a panic over this, any help!!
I came across this online and i want to know is it safe to do this:
Backup your User folders to an external drive. This should preserve your documents, photos, music, etc. If you store those things in locations not in the User folder, make sure to copy those over too.
Insert the Snow Leopard disc. Restart your Mac and hold down C to boot to your DVD drive.
Go to Utilities in the menu bar once the installer pops up and select “Disk Utility.”
Find the drive in the sidebar where Lion is installed, select it and navigate to the Partition tab.
Click on the drop down menu under Partition Layout and select “1 Partition.” Hit Apply.
Now navigate to the Erase tab and make sure “Mac OS Extended (Journaled)” is selected, then hit Erase to delete all data on the drive.
Quit Disk Utility to get back to the Snow Leopard installer and proceed with the install.
Restore your User folder and documents from your backup.
Run Software Update to get everything current, install your apps from your original install media and update those as well.

Before you do that why not do this first:
Repair the Hard Drive and Permissions
Boot from your Lion Recovery HD. When the recovery menu appears select Disk Utility. After DU loads select your hard drive entry (mfgr.'s ID and drive size) from the the left side list. In the DU status area you will see an entry for the S.M.A.R.T. status of the hard drive. If it does not say "Verified" then the hard drive is failing or failed. (SMART status is not reported on external Firewire or USB drives.) If the drive is "Verified" then select your OS X volume from the list on the left (sub-entry below the drive entry,) click on the First Aid tab, then click on the Repair Disk button. If DU reports any errors that have been fixed, then re-run Repair Disk until no errors are reported. If no errors are reported click on the Repair Permissions button. Wait until the operation completes, then quit DU and return to the main menu.
To boot from the Recovery HD restart the computer. After the chime hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
If this doesn't help, then you can proceed to reinstall Snow Leopard as follows:
Downgrade Lion to Snow Leopard
1. Boot from your Snow Leopard Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Click on the Partition button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Quit DU and return to the installer. Install Snow Leopard.
This will erase the whole drive so be sure to backup your files if you don't have a backup already. If you have performed a TM backup using Lion be aware that you cannot restore from that backup in Snow Leopard. I suggest you make a separate backup using Carbon Copy Cloner 3.4.1.
