Roaming problems

I'm having troubles with roaming on my phone its an lg optimus exceed 2. I'm always roaming and cannot make any calls while its roaming so i contacted customer service and they said to dial *228 then option 2 while I'm roaming to reprogram the phone but what they don't understand is that if its roaming I cannot make any calls at all. Please how do i fix this?

    ben1990,
Sorry to see you are having the trouble with roaming. What zipcode are you having the trouble in? When did the trouble begin?

  • WLC 7.4.100.60 and roaming problems on 8500

    Hello,
After installing an 8500 controller on 7.4.100.60 and migrating 1000 APs do this controller, we have the following problems:
[1] clients get disconnected and loose sessions (note: client is mobile gun and is heavily mobile). I have the impression there are more coverage holes. This might be due to bug CSCue13108, but says fixed in 7.4.100.60, we wil be upgrading to 7.4.110.0 anyway shortly.
[2] we have lots of L3 roaming problems between clients, especially when clients roam between old WISM controller and new 8500 controller. They don't roam, they get disconnected and reconnected, resulting in ip address change, resulting in sessions loss. Old controller still runs 7.0.230.0 but compatibility matrix says these two versions are L3 roaming compatible.
However, the release notes of 8500 mention this: "Cisco 8500 Series Controller cannot be configured  as a guest anchor controller. However, it can be configured as a foreign  controller to tunnel guest traffic to a guest anchor controller in a  DMZ"
Because Layer 3 roaming is similar to guest traffic tunneling, does this mean that the 8500 can be the initiator of a L3 roam tunnel, but cannot be the endpoint of a L3 roam tunnel ?
We have done a test that seems to confirm this: client starts on 8500 in state "local", goes to AP on old controller (7.0.230.0), but roam doesn't work. Client gets re-associated with ip address change. Then when moving back to the 8500 controller, the client does roam successfully, keeps its ip address in the 7.0.230.0 vlan and gets status "foreign" on 8500 controller. controllers are in same mobility group and mobility connections are all up.
In the 7.5 release notes, this limitation is not mentioned anymore. Does it mean it is solved and 8500 can be used as guest anchor controller in 7.5 ??
    regards,
    Geert

[2] we have lots of L3 roaming problems between clients, especially when clients roam between old WISM controller and new 8500 controller. Roaming from one AP to another that shares the same controller is totally different with inter-controller roaming, which you have now.  I believe WiSM-1 has 180 ms compared to the 90 ms on a 5508.  And this time difference means alot.
So when your client goes from one controller to another, they actually have to do a full re-authentication to the new controller.
I presume both the old and new controller are in the same Mobility Group?
However, the release notes of 8500 mention this: "Cisco 8500 Series Controller cannot be configured  as a guest anchor controller. However, it can be configured as a foreign  controller to tunnel guest traffic to a guest anchor controller in a  DMZ"
Pffft!  That'll be the most expensive Guest Anchor Controller if I follow this solution.

  • Data Roaming Problems with Lumia 610 and 710 phone...

Data Roaming problem with Lumia Wndows 7.5 phones.  We have a Lumia 710 and also 610 phones on Virgin pay monthly sim cards.  We cannot get data raoming to work on either phone.  We have tried in a number of locations in France and Switzerland. Virgin confirm roaming and data roaming are set up on our account.
    - I have purchased Data Passes.
    - Settings>Mobile Network active network shows current operator
    - Data Connection is on,
    - Data roaming option shows "roam",
     - highest connection speed is 3G,
     - network selection is automatic.
     - Flight mode is off.
     - Account settings are ok because everything works on Wifi.
     - Connection has been full bars showing 3G.
     - I have tried hard resets of phone, manual network selection, deleted browsing history,
     - phone software reports that it is up to date,
     - I have run Network Setup which confirms phone has been updated network settings for relevant operator.
     - Telephone calls to Virgin from Switzerland could not resolve the problem.
     - Discussions with Virgin since returning home have not been able to solve the problem.  It seems to be an issue with Lumia phones.
Can anyone help please? Nokia - why doesn't this work on your phones?

I'm like what an OS this phone has. All I can say is that if you own MS stock dump it fast as the OS on this phone is so bad its not even funny.
I think what they are trying to do here is a last ditch attempt to capture the online services market but it isn't going to work, because they have made this OS to weird.
I'm a pretty seasoned user and I generally am able to get gadgets to work but dudes this puppy is something else. I have 14 days to exchange it so Im going to give it my best shot for another couple of days and see where it goes.
The phone itself is pretty decent otherwise I would have returned on the 2nd day. Its pretty fast and the screen is nice and bright and if not some major concerns I wouldn't be a complaining.
1st} There is no way to import your bookmarks into the phone without using a online service.
2nd} I haven't been able to successfully export my old contact list from my LG P500 Android.
The 710 seems to only use contacts that are stored on online services even though I have imported my contacts using the Contact transfer function on the phone.
3rd)The phone won't shut off while charging even if you shut the phone down , plug it in and it turns on no matter what you do.
The Zune software is all glitter and no meat too unfortunately.
I really wanted an alternative and the phone is such good value and a local new Provider has a 27 $ a month unlimited everything, but luckily they have a 14 day phone exchange policy.
I'm going to keep for a few more days and see if I can get it to work the way i want it to.

  • Roaming problem with WLC 5508 with Phone 7921

    Hi to all,
i have one WLC with several AP1231 2.4 GHz. Everything works fine with PC and 7921 in normal condition (last firmware release 1.4.3.4).
But with 7921 there is a little problem: if i walk quicky along the warehouse and along lanes while i'm at the phone everything works well.
But the operator often have a phone call while he is on a forklift and he moves fast with this during the conversation.
In this case of fast moving, during the call, the call doesn't fall but often i do not hear 2/3 words consecutively so i can't understand the phrase.
I have already done a study of radio environment but there aren't interference, and roaming works good with walk speed, so i think that the problem is the operator's speed  in forklift (i think at the max about 10-12 Km/h)
The question is that in this case it is possible to modify parameters of Client Roaming in WLC, to reduce this issue?
If yes, somone knows what are the best values in this environment for
    Hysteresis
    Minimum RSSI
    Transition time
    Scan threshold
Or someone knows other parameters to modify or any ideas?
    Thanks a lot.

The 1.4.3.4 firmware scans nicely - it will typically scan each channel every 5 seconds.
How big are your cells?  What power level are you using?  With very small cells, it is certainly possible that the forklift can drive out of and into cells faster than the phone can scan for them.
You may want to increase your cell size (increase power.)  Of course this also means that you will run the risk of co-channel interference.  In which case you may need to disable some 2.4GHz radios.
Also - be sure that your APs are placed where the forklift can hear an AP that it needs to roam to well before it has to roam to it.  For example, if the forklift is rolling straight down a corridor like this:
              |  x |            |    |
    __________|    |____________|    |_____
    a              >>> forklift >>>                   b
    ----------|    |------------|    |-----
              |    |            |  y |
then make sure that the APs that the forklift needs to use are at locations a and b, not x and y (assuming metal partitions where the lines are.)

  • GUest WLAN with Anchor WLC - roaming problems

    Hello,
my wireless network consists in 3 WLC 4402 which manage 40 APs.
I have a fourth WLC which I installed on my DMZ for guest vlan anchoring and web autentication.
Everiting works fine but I have a problem:
If my client associates with an AP and then I authenticate I'm ready to make traffic. As soon as my client roams to an AP managed by a differnt WLC I need to authenticate again. If I roam back to the first AP i need to reauthenticate.
In my guest WLAN I use WEB authentication provided by the internal web server of the Anchor WLC.
    Thnks everybody

Here are the output of show mobility summary.

  • Wireless roaming problem (WAP4410n)

Hello, I have two WAP4410n and I want to use it in roaming mode. All two points configured to use same SSID, psk-key, but used different channels (5 and 9). The problem is that sometime second point is not accessible until I restart it. I connect to the wlan using first point than move to the room with second and there is no roamig. Is this a point problem or bad settings?

Hi llya, I assume you mean to say using as a repeater.
The AP has a couple known issues
CSCts76476—The access point may periodically experience loss of
connectivity when configured in bridge mode. Workaround: Unplug the
power adaptor or PoE cable, and then plug it back in.
    • CSCtx62203—In certain environments and traffic model, the WAP4410N
may lockup after some undetermined time. Workaround: Reboot the
    device.

  • Roaming problem

    I've confured a new site with 4 radiobases AIR-AP1231G-E-K9 c1200-k9w7-tar.123-8.JA2.
No Vlan, WPA, TKIP,(The same config as many other sites).Authenticating to a central Radius.
My problem is that I cant move around whithout losing the connection. I have a very good signal from the bases.
The only thing that is diffrent from the other sites is that here Im using a Cisco express 500-TT and the other sites have 2900 and 3500 switches.
Im getting an errormessage from the switch "Access denied to one or more connecting devices on this port." when Im moving around.
Or is the signal to strong (Dont thinks so)
When Im roaming over to a new base I loosing connection to the network. But if I do repair on my laptop the new base gets to be the active one......
    Greatfull for help
    Killroy

    Yes it looks that way.
When I get roamed over to a new AP I get authenticated and have connection after a few second I lose my connection to the network but have still connection to the AP and Im authenticated. And I loose my IP address.
If I do repair in my laptop I get back my IP address and the Cisco Express 500 TT have a critical error on the interface for the new AP.
"Access denied to one or more connecting devices on this port."
Seem like a rule problem but there isnt very much configurationoptions on the 500!

  • Voice over IP Roaming problems between 2 Wireless Lan Controllers.

    Hello,
we have problems with Voice over IP roaming between 2 Wireless Lan Controllers, this problem is not always happening. I have attached the detailed configuration. We are using LWAPP 1242 & WLC 2106 Controllers.
The phones they are using are Siemens Enterprise optiPoint WL2.
Is there maybe something wrong with the configuration our can I try some different settings?
    Regards,
    Jordy Broekhuizen

When a wireless client associates and authenticates to a WLC, it places an entry for that client in its client database. This entry includes the MAC and IP addresses of the client, security context and associations, quality of service (QoS) contexts, the WLAN, and the associated LAP. When a client roams to another LAP associated to the same WLC, it just updates the client database with the new LAP information so that the data can be forwarded appropriately to the client. When a client roams to a LAP associated with a different WLC, either in same or different subnets, it sends the information in the client database to the new WLC. This helps client to retain its IP address across roams and maintain uninterrupted TCP sessions. For more information on roaming in the WLC environment.

  • Wap200 roaming problems

    Hi
I know that there was couple of similar topics but none of them seems to be solved.
We have 6 AP's WAP200, all of them configured with the same SSID and diffrent channels. When i walk with a terminal or a laptop it looses couple pings when roaming between these ap's. Can anybody help me with that???
I can see that i'm not loosing the signal so terminal associates with another ap immediately but then it looses connectivity to the ip network for a bit. With laptop it is not a problem but with termianls it is a huge one because it terminates user sessions with telnet server.
    Please help !!!!

Hi, My name is Eric Moyers. I am a Network Support Engineer in the Cisco Small Business Support Center.
With any of the small business AP's when roaming between AP's you are going to have a small drop like you are experiencing. The main reason for this is that within the small business arena none of our AP's can do seamless roaming. The one exception is for the AP541N access points which can be clustered together. But even those will have a small drop when roaming between AP's.
The only option for total seamless roaming is moving up to an Enterprise level of AP's that can be controlled by a Wireless LAN Controller. With that scenario Your WLC controls the roaming and keeps the clients associated without any loss of connectivity.
I wish I had a better answer for you, but if the terminal connectivity is mission critical I would consider looking at some of the solutions our Enterprise group has in that area.

  • Help! Cisco WAP321 Roaming problem

I've setup 3 Cisco WAP321's with Single Point Setup turned on.  SPS works great - everything propagates and I can see that all 3 WAPs have the same configuration.
However, I have a problem.  With my laptop, I connect to the wireless network downstairs on WAP1. Then I walk to a remote part of the building where the only WAP within range is WAP3.  My laptop disconnects from the network.  When I look at the list of networks that my laptop can see, it can see my SSID with 4 bars - this is WAP3 (it's pretty far from the rest of the network, and it's separated from the other WAPs by a cinderblock wall).  When I try to connect, my laptop says "cannot connect to (SSID)".
I've tried this with my Windows laptop and my iPad.
When I go back downstairs (I left my laptop up near WAP3 - definitely not in range of WAP1) and login to one of the WAPs and go to Single Point Setup > Sessions, it tells me that the MAC address of my laptop is connected to WAP1.
It seems that the WAPs are not passing my session from WAP to WAP.  I cannot turn on WDS because it says that WDS doesn't work when clustering is turned on.
Am I totally wrong about the way this stuff is supposed to work?  Shouldn't I be able to roam around the building and still be connected?
    Any ideas?

  • 876w roaming problems

    Hello,
We have one cisco876w router and three access-points. We are using a wpa eap authentication. Roamin between the access-points only works fine. Roaming from one access-point to the cisco876w works fine. But roamin from the 876w to a access-point fail.
The client stay connected in the 876w. The client lost the wlan connection and connects to an access-point.
But on the router you can see that the client is always connected to the router. On the access-point we can see that the client can?t get a ip address but he is connected to the ap.
    Where can be the problem?
    Sincerely,
    Martin

From my experience with the 876W and even the wireless module that goes into an 1800 or 2800 ISR, these wireless APs DO NOT do roaming and are assumed to be use for small/home office environments. Essentially, since you are using EAP, this adds more latency on the authentication process. Everytime a client, connects to an AP, it will go through that process. If the client roams around and trys to connect to the 876W as closest node on the WLAN, it would then have to reauthenticate because the 876W thinks it is the only AP on the LAN.
With the other APs, I assume they are IOS APs. Just make sure you have WDS configured and the WDS Manager will then act as the "key manager" and knows of the other wireless APs on the LAN. This guarantees a 150ms roam and manages clients more efficiently.
Again, to my knowledge, the 876W or any wireless module in an ISR router, is NOT capable or roaming.

  • Roaming problems after IOS Upgrade

We have upgrade our APs 1100 from Firmware 123-2.JA2 to new 123-4.JA.
We are using wireless with 7920 (firmware 2.0) and CCM (4.1.3 sr1); after the upgrade we have problems with roaming !!

Have same problem after upgrading to 123-4.JA running 7920.4.0-01-08.
After upgrading phones to 7920-4.0-01-09 roaming is OK (again)

  • Orange Pay Monthly 3G Roaming Problem (with Roaming data added)

Last year went to Hannover from UK and switched on the 3G and roaming and picked up the local network no issues and 3G activated and all data worked fine.  This weekend went back to Hannover and when in hotel switched on 3G and roaming and connected to then network but no 3G icon.  Tried to switch off and back on, changed from Telekon.de to E-Plus and they all connected to the Network but no 3G.  Called Orange and spoke to their Ipad technical department and we went through Level 1 diagnostics from resetting the network adaptor to manually choosing one of the above mobile operators and then manually choosing the other, switching of the wifi to doing a reset (holding down power button and screen button until apple icon came on and it reset all to no avail, they sent a text message update which didn’t work so I spoke to Orange Level 2 diagnostic who went through the same things as Level 1 and basically said that it was the German network that was causing the problem and could not help.
However I was sat next to a colleague who has exactly the same Ipad and was connected to E-Plus and had been connected to Telekon.de and was happily showing the 3G icon and was using it without problem.  Orange Level 2 suggested we swopped sim cards and this resulted in my Ipad still showing the mobile operator but not getting the 3G signal and at the same time my colleagues Ipad showing the Mobile operator but not getting the 3G.
When back in the UK switched Ipad on and kept getting a messaging saying that my Network Setting could not be used chose another Network, it seemed to struggle to find Orange but eventually did and 3G connected!!
So works first time in Hannover and second time no 3G, the only thing that I can think of that I did differently this time was to switch the Ipad into airplane mode (from memory last time I simply switched of the 3G and wifi and put to sleep) and that this may have caused a problem.  However I am going to China (other colleagues have been there and there Ipads all worked on 3G roaming) in Mar and need the 3G to work on roaming otherwise I will be carrying a somewhat expensive paperweight around with me until I can access any wifi.
Any help/advise will be appreciated accepting that I cannot actually check the roaming 3G until I get into China!

    Was Data Roaming switched ON?
It'll be a lot cheaper to use a local Pre-paid SIM.
Roaming can cost one arm and two legs.

  • Battery / Roaming Problem? Please Help!!!

I've had my curve for a few days, and the first day I got it there was no problem.  The next day it suddenly went into roaming at my house, where the coverage map tells me i have good service.  When my phone is in roaming, my battery drains, even when it is in standby.  I barely have any applications open, and I just have no idea why its draining so quickly.

So the mobility domain ID is the same.
    The show wlan id :
    On 3650 :
    3650-ERM-LT1#sh run wlan testNXO
    wlan test 6 TEST
     no broadcast-ssid

I enabled fast-ssid-change on both side.
    So, on both side :
    - mobility domain and bridge domain ID are the same
    - WLAN settings are the same
The coverage area for my test is OK.
The wireless management interface on both 3650 and 5508 is on the same VLAN (172.17.0.0 /16).
I test with android smartphone and windows laptop.
    The WLC version : 8.0.115.0
    The 3650 version : 03.07.00E
    Others elements to check ?
From the config guide I don't see what I miss :
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/switches/lan/catalyst3650/software/release/3se/mobility/configuration_guide/b_mobility_3se_3650_cg/b_mobility_3se_3650_cg_chapter_01001.html

Going forward this setup not going to be supported. ie you cannot make 5508 (or AireOS) controller as MC for 3850/3650 MA. In AireOS 8.1 code this support is not there, so better to get a 5760 if you want a dedicated MC in converged access.
Still you should be able to have roam between 5760 & 5508 set up in same mobility group.
If you have to go ahead with this testing, first try to do it with single 5508 (without SSO) & see. I would suggest 3.6.2aE for 3650 ( 3.7 is latest, but there may be unknows issues)
