Roaming Profile at User level simply not copying...no error

Little rusty on setting this up but if I recall if I choose to setup roaming profiles at the user object level then I simply need to create a share with the appropriate share/NTFS permissions then assign the UNC path in the Profile tab in ADUC?  We
are running Win 2008 R2 with Win 7 SP1 clients.
If this is correct then I have done this and the profile will simply not roam...no errors in event log, the test user simply logs in and has a normal local profile.  While I am logged in as this user I can access the above UNC and create a folder so
I think permissions are ok.
Originally this computer and test user were in an OU where I set a GPO setting up Folder Redirection.  Thinking that I possibly configured something incorrectly there I moved the user and computer object to a basic OU where only the default domain policy
is applied.  No change.
I don't remember getting this part working to be such a hassle so I am at a loss now how to troubleshoot further.
Thanks

Hi,
Since Roaming Profile doesn’t work correctly, and you could not find any error in the event logs. At this time, I suggest you’d better first check for the correct permissions on the profile
share. In addition to logging events in the Application Event log, User Profiles can provide a detailed log to aid troubleshooting. To create a detailed log file for user profiles:
1. Start regedit and locate the following path: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon
2. Create a new value called UserEnvDebugLevel as a REG_DWORD, and set the value to 30002 in hexadecimal format.
The log file can be found at: %windir%\debug\usermode\userenv.log

  • Roaming Profile Variables - User Policy

    HI there,
I am trying to implement a different roaming profile location based on PC, and following TID10073109 I had theorised that creating a local environmentvariable called "roam" and referencing it in the ZENworks Roaming profile location would work.
    eg: \\%roam%\Profiles\%USERNAME%
It however, does not. Nor does the PC generate any error or log anything in the event log as it normally would if the location specified was invalid.
If I replace %roam% with the actual servername it works as expected - is this a bug?
    I am currently using W2k, Client 4.83SP2 and ZEN 4.0.1 IR4
Every other time I use %roam% it works - mapping drives etc etc.
    Help Anyone?
    thanks

Strange then that %USERNAME% works just fine.
I have tried hosts file, system and user - none work! DO you know if this is fixed in 6.5 or 7?
    cheers

hmm.. you could try IR7 agent... but I have the gut feeling that the

  • Migration from Roaming Profiles to User Profile Disks - RDS 2012 (R2)

Hi, I'm currently in the process of tweaking our RDS 2012 environment and have a question I hope someone can help me with....
The users who log onto the Collection are currently using roaming profiles stored on a 2008 R2 file server, but I'd like to move them onto User Profile Disks (looks to be a lot of pro's to it). Is there a way to migrate users profiles from roaming profiles
to User Profile Disks? We already have a lot of users on the farm with roaming profiles and I'm guessing if UPD is enabled, it will only take effect with new users? I need to do this without too much hassle if possible
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thanks

    Hi Paul,
Thank you for your posting in Windows Server Forum.
Sorry to disappoint you, but you cannot able to move\migrate the roaming user profile to new User profile disk on server 2012\R2. You need to move them manually. Please refer below thread.

  • HR: Security Profile at User Level

    Hi
As HR: Security Profile is not enabled for user level, but sometime we need it for some users. Workaround is set up a different responsibility for the same.
Also We can go to Application Developer Responsibility and set enable user level for HR: Security Profile option. Is it Ok to do it or this may break the system at some point.
    Suggestions Please.

    Gaurav,
I am not an expert in this area, but I do not think enabling the profile at the user level will cause any issues. In our site, what we have done is to create a security profile specific to that user and assigned it in the HR module (not sure of the specifics, but I can find out if you are interested) - we did not enable the profile option at the user level as you are wanting to do. SR can provide you with another opinion :-)

  • User tablespace did not copy during cold backup

Can anybody explain why this happened and how to fix?
I was doing regular weekly coldbackup and all other tablespaces got copied except user tablespace. I can not find any error in alert log and windows event log. The file size is 25G. Any idea?
    Thanks

The original poster has declared that this a cold backup, so presumably no BEGIN/END BACKUP involved here. Further, how would those commands do anything to cause a backup script to SKIP the files for a tablespace?
As for the OP's problem, I will guess that this is occurring on Windows. Because the default flag that Windows programs use to open files often specify exclusivity, many backup scripts and packages will not be able to open (or copy) a file that is open by another process. Notably, if the backup is hitting such a problem it should be receiving (and hopefully logging) and error.
I can't guess what other program might have had the files open, but if Oracle did not successfully shut down completely, or if some threads failed to exit during shutdown, you would end up with some files with open filehandles. That would prevent commands like COPY from working on those files.
Solutions (if this is windows and my theory holds water) would include:
    - Providing exception handling in the cold backup script to verify that Oracle has shutdown completely and that no Oracle threads remain.
    - Switching to ocopy.exe (Oracle nonexclusive copy program for Windows) so that the backup would not fail on files with open filehandles. I guess this is a little reckless since the database could be open and the cold backup could proceed heedless of that fact.
    - Use process explorer to track down what program has the files open after shutdown.
    Hope this helps,

  • User level personalization not available

User Personalization specifies whether the user can personalize a item. This property is relevant only in the case of user-defined views. Items that have the User Personalization property set to true only can be personalized by the user in the Create/Update Views page.

Try playing one of the problem tracks in iTunes. If it is not authorized, iTunes should invite you to do so.
Tracks will not transfer to your iPod if they are not authorized.
If you have trouble getting your tracks authorized, there is an Apple help that includes a email form for contacting Customer Service:

  • Media Manager can not copy file error 47

In editing a program together, I converted a powerpoint presentation using keynote into a Quicktime movies using the DV settings. All well and good and I have output this to tape and DVD. Now, when I try to use Media Manager to make a trimmed down archival copy with extraneous materials removed, the program reports it cannot copy this DV movie. The error reported is 47. What's up?
I am using a completely upgraded FCP 4.5 on a G5 with 1.5 GB RAM and hard disk space galore.

Through my research I believe the "error 47" must relate to an imcompatible frame rate from your native sequence frame rate. I've done the tests and once I changed the frame rate of the problem clip(through conversion), I no longer had any problems.
Where is there a list of these error codes? That would be nice.

  • Roaming profiles not created while the creation of user account

    Hello,
Our file server (running windows server 2003) is hosting Roaming profiles for users (in active directory running 2003). And that worked just fine till this week, when trying to create some users, we figured out that their roaming profiles are not created
(after their first logon the the domain of course)
We checked out the NTFS permissions and the SMB share permissions, and everything looks correct.I have even modified the permissions as Microsoft recommands. But still nothing has changed.
What could be the problem? or where to look for some paths to troubleshoot this problem??
    Thanks in advance!
    Lotfi BOUCHERIT

    Hi Lotfi B,
    According to your description
the user, is not able to access the share from the Explorer, as Awinish said, there may be a network or Firewall issue.
Please try to troubleshoot the network issue referring to the following article:
    Troubleshoot network connection problems
In addition, it would be helpful if you could help to collect the following information:
Could the old users access the share?
Did the GPResult show the GPO had applied successfully? Please run
    Gpresult /h > C:\temp\gpresult.html  (“C:\temp\”is the path of the gpresult.html,
you can set it yourself) in Command Prompt, the file gpresult.html is used for checking the resultant of Group Policy information.

  • It is Possible to Migrate Local User Profile to Roaming Profile Using USMT?

    Dear All,
1st, I'm following guide at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/142682 to copy user profiles to another user, but the problem is the 'Copy to' button is not active (grey). I try
using 3rd party tools, still no change.
2nd, I try to transfer local profile on the same machine and different user using Windows Easy Transfer, it's work and all of data has been restore to a new user. But not all App Settings is restored, when I open Outlook 2010 and Windows
Live Mail, there's need to enter password again. That is not problem for me.
3rd, After migrate/transfer (2nd step) I want to migrate from local profile to roaming profile, but user profile setting on local profile is not copied to roaming profile, such as Email setting need to create new account but all data is
not problem, because I have already configure on ADUC and GPMC.
    My question is:
    1. How to copy or move all Application settings on AppData Local folder to roaming profile?
    2. How about USMT, it is possible to migrate user profile settings from local to roaming? if is the best tools, how to do this?
    Please, advice...
    Thanks,
    Hendra

First, I dont understand why you're using the copy profile method. I'll make the assumption that you have a domain user account that you you need it's files and settings moving to another machine.
In that scenario then there's a simple guide here:
    Migrate User Accounts
For Roaming Profiles and Redirected folders; you can follow the
Infrastructure Planning and Design (IPD) Guide for Windows User State Virtualization (USV).
It sounds like a mouthfull but it actually makes the whole process easy. There's also a video
    here.

  • Best solution for data availability for end users --- reverse redirected folder and roaming profile

Roaming profiles and redirected folders do not seem to work for our environment. They often become troublesome and cause much help desk time and resources.
Is there a way to have a roaming profile and redirected folder configuration however have the local workstation have the primary copy and have the "server side" version be a backup?
This would seem to allow the user to have a constantly updated local copy and also have a backed up version on the enterprise server side available.

    Hi,
I'm afraid there is no such function for saving the main copy on local side.
However if the sync of your roaming profile or folder redirection is not working well, it will still affect the result even if the function is available.
Also roaming profile is for "using same profile on different client computers", if the primary copy is on client it will not affect the purpose.
And for folder redirection it supports Offline Files so client should have a local copy when sync is not work.

  • Office 2010 downloads too much stuff to users' roaming profiles, making it go over the 30MB size limit

Hey, we recently rolled out to Office 2010 at my workplace.
On the student segment we've activated the 30MB roaming profile size limit, and we've found that a bunch of students have had trouble with this now because Office 2010 seems to download around 8MB of files to %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Templates\LiveContent, which
occasionally makes the profile go over the 30MB size limit.
Is there any easy way to prevent this LiveContent from being downloaded?? Anything I can set in the installation transformation file, or preferably with a registry setting or something?

You had mentioned a policy to disable synchronization of the LiveContent folders.
I think it would be this GP admin template setting, it's what we use for this kind of requirement:
    File Name: UserProfiles.admx
Policy Setting Name: Exclude directories in roaming profile
    Scope: User
    Policy Path: System\User Profiles
    Registry Information: HKCU\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\System!ExcludeProfileDirs
Supported On: At least Windows 2000
Help Text: This policy setting lets you exclude folders that are normally included in the user's profile.
As a result, these folders do not need to be stored by the network server on which the profile resides and do not follow users to other computers.
Note: When excluding content from the profile you should try to exclude the narrowest set of data that will address your needs.
For example, if there is one application with data that should not be roamed then add only that application's specific folder under the AppData\Roaming folder rather than all of the AppData\Roaming folder to the exclusion list.By default, the Appdata\Local
and Appdata\LocalLow folders and all their subfolders such as the History, Temp, and Temporary Internet Files folders are excluded from the user's roaming profile. In operating systems earlier than Microsoft Windows Vista, only the History, Local Settings,
Temp, and Temporary Internet Files folders are excluded from the user's roaming profile by default. If you enable this policy setting, you can exclude additional folders. If you disable this policy setting or do not configure it, only the default folders are
    excluded.
Note: You cannot use this policy setting to include the default folders in a roaming user profile.

  • Roaming profiles did not work with Novell client

    I've Problems with roaming profiles.
It is perhaps not a Novell problem but anything with windows rights?
    We use ZCM11: (Server: SLES11 SP1)
Client new PC with a freshly installed Windows7, all updates.
(Only Turn on file and printer sharing, anything else default, no virusscanner)
The pre-agent has been installed and then the the Novell Client 2SP1 IR7
The PC gets a "Dynamic Local User Policy" with the settings:
    - Use the credentials of the user source
    - (Manage existing user account - but we have none there)
    - Volatile user (with no cache, meaning that the user is immediately deleted ... We have also tested with cache.)
    - e-dir user should be only member of Users
The users from edir get a Roaming Profile Policy with:
    - Store user profile in user's Home Directory. (which is on the OES/SLES server)
    ---- results ----
If the user has no centrally stored profile, then he can log on but just once!
(if "Enable Volatile User cache" also several times to the same PC)
If the user already has a stored profile, he can not log on Error: "The Group Policy client service failed the logon Access is denied"
In my view, the following happens. W7 create the user locally and want's put in the settings from a central profile in the local
Profile and can not do that.
Only when no "central profile" is there in the homedir, or if this profile does not contain the file ntuser.dat, the user can log in locally.
However, no files are used from te saved profile, for instance from the saved desktop.
I can not imagine that anyone around the world with ZCM11 on a SLES/OES Server don't use the Novell client and raoming profiles
It must therefore give a simple trick to solve the problem.
But which one? Can some one here help me?
