RoboEngine for RoboHelp X5

I've installed the RoboEngine on my server, but I don't have
any user manuals to guide me on how to use it. I was told by Adobe
that since I'm using RoboHelp X5 they can not get the user manuals
and that RoboHelp 6 does not have RoboEngine.
If I have to, I will upgrade to RoboHelp6. But is there
anything included in RoboHelp6 that would give me the same results
as RoboEngine would? Or would it be better for me to keep RoboHelp
X5 and try to find user manuals to guide me?
And I guess it would hurt to ask, does anyone know where I
can purchase user manuals for RoboHelp X5 and the RoboEngine?
Thanks in advanced...
Susy

Hi Susy. RoboHelp Server 6 is just the latest version of
RoboEngine. They just renamed the product but it is essentially the
same. You can quite easily stay with RoboEngine. There any number
of knowledge base articles available and John Daigle has a series
of articles also that are well worth a read. Try searching on
"Installing RoboEngine" in the Adobe support site and there are
plenty of links including one to the user guide for RoboHelp Server
6. Even though it is a newer version the same principals
apply.

  • Can't install patches 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 for robohelp 8

I installed Robohelp 8 on an XP workstation and now trying to install (update) patches 8.0.1 and 8.0.2. No errors, they just don't install. Has somebody else encountered this issue?

I asked as I have seen discrepancies but that looks OK.
Has the machine been rebooted since installing RoboHelp?
Is this a first time install of RoboHelp? If not I wonder if there is something old in the registry causing a problem. You could try uninstalling with RevoUninstaller and then reinstalling. Use the Advanced setting in RevoUninstaller but only if you are happy using such programs, otherwise involve IT.
I don't know what else to suggest apart from contacting Tech Support as an installation issue.

  • Galleries of sample CSS sheet for RoboHelp?

    Hi all,
Anybody know of any sites with galleries of sample CSS sheet
    for RoboHelp 7 HTML?

Try googling but most of us create our own style sheets using
the in-built ones or from scratch. They are so specific to a sites'
needs that I doubt you'd find anything too useful.

  • Internet Exploer 11 suddenly isn't showing my Table of Contents or Index for RoboHelp 10 output

I generated a WebHelp project with Adobe RoboHelp 10 last November. I had no problems with the TOC or index. Whenever I try to view output today, IE won't show the left pane with the list of topics in the Table of Contents. It also doesn't show index tags. I have no problem viewing this same output in Mozilla Firefox. I just set Firefox to be my default browser b/c it is so frustrating that I can't immediately view changes to my help project. Has anyone else experienced issues with IE 11? I even cleared cookies and the cache, and I still can't see my TOC and index. This never happened before.

    Hi,
Thanks to the forums I have found useful patches for RoboHelp 10 (sample links are below). I find that even after installing the latest AdobePatchInstaller.exe fix for RoboHelp 10 that I have to overwrite the whutil.js file in my !SSL! WebHelp_PRO output folder every single time I need to check changes in my output in the browser. I just want to confirm that there is no better workaround than manually copying whutil.js every time I generate my output to check it. Thanks.

  • Is there a user guide for Robohelp 7?

I've used Robohelp before, but now am faced with having to create a stylesheet.  I've tried using the Help but it seems to make assumptions that I've done created .css before.  For example, the kinds of things that I can find no information on:
What is the Design Editor?  I can't seem to find it to be able to create an external style sheet.
In the "Create a style sheet" topic, you must first click style sheet, but the style sheet button isn't enabled.
Bottom line: I'm looking for all inclusive documentation that will give me concepts and procedures for creating a style sheet.
    Thanks for your assistance.

Thank you so much for sharing these resources with me.  I have viewed
Adobe's tutorials on a number of topics and where their documentation
falls short of the mark, the tutorials are excellent.  I can't wait to dig
    into them.

Is there a user guide for Robohelp 7?
    Hi..
I COMPLETELY understand your frustration, because i've just gone through
    the same ordeal.
Its impossible to figure out how to import frame files into RH and how to
use style sheets from the on-line help, because as you said, you only get
bits and pieces of information out of context, and many of the
descriptions of settings don't explain what they are for/do. Its the same
old paradox; the only way you can understand the on-line help is if you
already understand the product; in which case you wouldn't need the online
    help.
What finally helped me to get a basic grasp of the mysteries of style
sheets, etc. was the tutorial: "Adobe Technical Communication Suite
    Getting Started series - Part 3: FrameMaker 8 and RoboHelp7: …" @
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/robohelp. (it runs about an hour and a half).
It explains how to enter and apply custom style sheet settings, mapping,
etc. and should probably clear up your confusion.
The only thing I STILL not certain about though, is what relationship, if
any, template (.htt) files have to do with anything, and whether they
relate to .css files. So i'd appreciate it if another poster can shed some
    enlightenment on that.

  • Release dates for RoboHelp Office 12, 13, 14 and 15

    Hi,
    I desperately need help.
I am creating software license compliance reports and to do so, we identify all incoming software .exe.
For each identified software version, we find release and expiry dates.
I have been searching the internet for a very long time now.
I cannot find anything I can trust.
Is there anybody out there who knows something about this. if not for all of the versions, then at least for some of them?
    Anything helps.
    Please!

It's the old name for what we now know as RoboHelp (as opposed to TCS). At that time I think it included the bits we get now but then could be purchased separately. Rick will probably recall that better.
I don't have release dates but there is no expiry date as such. Support is only available for the current and previous versions. Beyond that they just keep running. X4 (12) and X5 (13) are problematic in that they require activation and can no longer be activated. For X5 there is a download to get around that. For X4 you are plain out of luck.

  • Merged Project for RoboHelp 10 - TOC does not display

    I created a merged project.
    I created a master/parent project.
I added the children rreferences in the parent TOC using the new merged button.
    I published the parent project.
I published all the children (in the parent merged project folder).
I generated the parent project again for webhelp, then click view results.
The parent project displays with the TOC  (children),  BUT as soon as I click Allow Blocked content, the TOC disappears (first topic is blank).
I have created all projects files locally. The children (when viewed independency) work fine.
I have deleted and started over 3 times with the same issue. I contacted Adobe Support, but they could not help.
Any idea o what might be the issue or how to resolve this problem.
    Thanks!
    Kim

First of all try moving the project so that the path is shorter. Create a folder like C:\RhMerge.
Second, I notice your path has spaces showing in the browser. Browser addresses substitute %20 so I am not sure how you have managed that. However the demo does not have spaces unless you have buried it somewhere that does.
Also please try Firefox as well.
Post back if still not resolved or to tell us what fixed it.

  • User Manual for RoboHelp?

Does anyone know of any kind of user manual (authorized or
    no) for RoboHelp?

Well I hope you are authorised
. I hope Kewel won't mind my adding to his advise
that to avoid going to the online help make sure you have the "Use
Offline Help" selected in RH's options. There are a few books
around on RH (check amazon) but they are unlikely to be on the
    latest version.

  • Browser support for RoboHelp 9 WebHelp / not working on IE7

Does Adobe have an official list of what browsers are compatible with RH9's WebHelp?
My output works fine on IE9, but in IE7 the TOC is blank and the search doesn't work.

I'm not sure what it is in my reply that you are referring to when you say "News to me" or are you just passing on some information you have just found?
As with IE7, Chrome should also work with RoboHelp 9 generated output provided it is on a web server. Whilst you may not have to support Chrome, it does seem odd that browser is also not working.

  • IIS requirements for robohelp v7

What modules need to be enable in IIS for robohelp? Is it
just web services or does ftp need to be present?

    Welcome to our community, kb.ca
Please note that there are multiple products. There is
RoboHelp Office, which consists of RoboHelp for Word, RoboHelp HTML
and some other applications. Then you have RoboHelp Server. A
component that one installs on a server running IIS.
So the first question here is to narrow down whether you are
referring to RoboHelp Office or RoboHelp Server. If you are
wondering about RoboHelp Office, it is oblivious to IIS. But I do
believe IIS is required if you are referring to RoboHelp Server.
Unfortunately, I'm unclear on what modules of IIS would need to be
    enabled.
    Cheers... Rick

  • File comparison for RoboHelp?

Is there a way to do a file comparison for RoboHelp projects?
I've read in the online help that you can do a file comparison if
you're using version control software, which we're not. Our
reviewers would like a way to see what has changed between
    versions.
    Thanks.

I have always been impatient with editors and reviewers who
insist on changes being flagged. In my view, this is the lazy
person's way of doing a half-hearted job. They don't want to look
at anything but the changes. I wouldn't handle my contributors that
way; why let reviewers off the hook?
The underlying assumption is the material was at least
correct, if not perfect, before changes and doesn't warrant a
second look. A foolish assumption. Additionally, this approach will
fail to spot contradictions and inconsistencies between new
material and earlier text that wasn't revised.
Yet I can and will suggest a tool, one I would never use for
editorial review, that pinpoints with dead-on accuracy any
    differences between files.
It's useful for controlling the publishing process and for
checking back on what RH has published between versions.
An inexpensive application available on the Web is Beyond
Compare. It will let you set up side-by side (or above-and-below)
comparisons with options for various degrees of control, such as
file revision level, date/time stamps, file size and so on. You can
flag files that differ by checksum or as little as a binary value.
You can open a mismatched pair and review differences line by line.
You can even suppress the display of files and lines with no
    changes.
That's my rant for today. Good luck.
    Harvey

  • Web Interface for RoboHelp for editing on Linux Machines?

I work on the development and support of a software package.  We have to deal with the mistakes that will surely crop up in the documentation.  Our user's guides are written in Microsoft Word, but as the number of equations and length of the documents increase, they are getting increasingly difficult to manage.  In particular, it's difficult to have multiple people edit the documentation and tedious to post updated versions.
We are considering purchasing RoboHelp, however, most of our employees use Linux/Unix machines, but one or two use Window's machines.  I see that the requirement for RoboHelp is a windows machine.  I'm wondering if we could install it on one of our employees' Windows machines, but then have others edit it through a web interface on their Linux/Unix machines.
    Is this possible with RoboHelp?
Thank you for any help you can give.  I searched the forums with various search strings before posting, but didn't not find the answer.

If you wanted to edit the HTML files that Rh creates I would say editing them externally is highly likely to give you problems. In the source files Rh is allowed to use PIs (processing instructions) that don't appear in the output but do control how things work. [See UPDATE] Also if you use Rh features, how would you write the code for those? However, you could use Rh to link to those Word files to produce its output. Then whenever you generate the output, it will look at the current version of the Word document and go from there.
I see you are using equations. Do test that they work OK. The trial version is good for one month and is fully functional.
UPDATE - Your external editor would not be able to write these.

  • Documentation for RoboHelp Server 8

The site is behind a version. Is it the same as 7? I know there is one accompanying the exe installation, but I do not have access to a server yet. I am trying to write a business case and to show a proof of concept in a sandbox environment.
    Thank you.
    JC

    Hi. jCoria.
I just looked at the main product page you are referring to. There is a separate heading titled, "Did you know?" This section is meant to introduce other products including Adobe's Technical Communication Suite of which RoboHelp Server 8 is not a part. I agree that the inclusion of Adobe AIR on that page is confusing, though I would not say misleading, if you follow the links provided. From that same page it is mentioned that RH Server 8 supports both WebHelp Pro and FlashHelp Pro as output. It does not support the browser-based AIR Help at this time as I understand it.
I am not an Adobe employee but I can say that as an instructor/consultant I have taught three RoboHelp classes in the past four weeks for major firms where we also installed Adobe RoboHelp Server 8. Two of those clients had previously used the old RoboEngine (the old eHelp/Macromedia version of the server.) The installations went smoothly and the IT people were very happy to see that the new RH Server 8 does not require the IIS server and .NET Framework as in the past (though it is supported if that is desired). I don't use Madcap's Feedback Server, but my understanding is that it  does require IIS.
The new Java-based RoboHelp Server 8 uses the free and open-source Apache Tomcat Server with Apache's powerful Lucene Search engine. I found it to be very easy to install and configure. This is the first iteration of the Java-based application and at first I found the documentation to be limited. This is because there are many network architectures and platform technologies that are used around the world. The initial  documentation did not cover all combinations. However, there have been many  improvements since the initial release. I also found Adobe engineers were most helpful in answering my questions where I hit a gap in the documentation. For example, there has been valuable information on this forum offered by Adobe engineer Tulika Garg along with our peers on this forum including the excellent blog offered by Colum McAndrew.
Another major benefit of this new version is enormous flexibility in restricting access to content. So the author can set up what are called "Areas" which can either be unprotected as normal or set up as protected which requires authentication. It's like having separate websites on the same server without having to buy licenses for each.
Regarding your comment about coming from a Flare environment, I would mention that I have a Flare-to-RoboHelp project converter which you may find useful. It is free and available on my website.
    Thanks
