Robohelp 10 crashes when updating linked Frame 11 files

I recently upgraded from TCS 3 to 4 and this project worked fine before the upgrade.
Whenever I update the book linked to RoboHelp, it crashes and I receive an "Adobe RoboHelp 10 has stopped working message" (below).
If I update individual files in the book, RoboHelp does not seem to have a problem with files that do not have many linked images.
I'm running Windows 7 Enterprise. 8 GB RAM. The source control for the Frame files is Documentum, so they reside locally on my PC at C:\Users\user.name\AppData\Roaming\Adobe\FrameMaker\Documentum\<connection_name>\<reposit ory>\

Hello,
TCS4 with Acrobat update to XI, unstructured FM. Win8.
I am having the same problem, and I am very concerned. This is definitely a new problem so something has changed recently - perhaps an Acrobat update?
I have been linking my FM books to RH and happily converting graphics through distiller for several years now. The last time I successfully did this was in February, with no problems. Now, I am starting a new round of help releases. As soon as RH encounters a chapter with graphics to convert, it crashes. This is not a problem with a particular graphic or particular FM chapter. It happens on any FM chapter with a graphic. Many of my graphics have callouts so it's possible that it occurs due to this, but it wasn't a problem before.
Things I've tried:
Started a new RH project.
Changed the image conversion to not use Distiller. This resulted in no problems whatsoever, but the graphics quality is not acceptable.
Converted a chapter with no graphics. No crashing.
Tried using Distiller, but created .gif instead of .png. Still resulted in an immediate crash.
Deleted the CPD file after each crash.
Observed Distiller and looked for error messages in the log. There are none. It looks like 2 -3 graphics are converting before the crash. I went to the temp folder where these are being distilled but could not really make sense of what's there... there are 2-3 PDFs of my images in each temp folder. There's a temp folder for each time I crashed.
OK I admit I am really worried about this new issue.

  • RH 9 - .CHM file RoboHelp 9 crashes when clicking on a .htm file in Project Manager

    Dear all,
RoboHelp 9 crashes when I click on a .htm file in Project Manager. I think there should be redundant codes in this file but I cannot find out the reason why actually.
Anyone knows that, please help me.
    Thanks a lot.

Just to be sure it is the topic that is causing the issue, create a new project and import the HTM file. If it is the file it may crash when you import or it may import but crash when you click on it in the Project Manager pod. If this happens, try opening the file in Windows Explorer. Does this display anything. You can also try opening the file in Notepad which should display your XHTML code. Come back if you find anything.

  • Indesign CS4 crashing when updating links

When I open a CS3 file in CS4, and choose to update links when opening the file, Indesign stops working when it tries to update the links. I am not able to cancel the request, I can only shut down the program in the windows task manager.
Anyone knows a way to fix this problem?

As a last resort, when I run into the weird problems, I go through a process of elimination to find the offender.
As example, I would delete half the images and try the update. if it works, I know the problem was in one of the images I deleted. If it doesnt, I'd delete the other half and try again. I keep cutting the number of images I remove in half till I'm down to whatever it was causing the problem. The I save it as a newfile type and re-import/place.
Kind of a pain in the tookas, but it works when I'm really stumped.

  • RoboHelp 7 crashes when creating new project with files from VSS

RoboHelp crashes when I create a new project and choose to get existing files from Visual Source Safe to load into the project.  Does anyone have a solution to this problem or a suggestion as to why this may be happening?  I'm attaching the errors associated with the crashing.
Also, we have a very large Help system (985 topics) which compiles into a 46 MB chm file.  Is there a maximum suggested topic size (per topic) and a maximum suggested number of topics per project?  Could this be part of the reason RoboHelp is crashing?  We've always had a large Help system since we started using RoboHelp several years ago but the crashing is a more recent problem.
    Thanks,
    Carissa

I had the same issue then I found out all you have to do is to set the default view to List before opening any previous or new project and it worked, credit goes to this user below who found the solution.

I was able to resolve by workaround:
    1. Closed all open applications
    2. relaunch Finder
    3. run  sudo find / -name ".DS_Store"  -exec rm {} \;
    4. this removes all  .DS_Store old files on the computer
    5. launch finder and set default view to "LIST VIEW" as shown here:http://macs.about.com/od/usingyourmac/ss/Setting-Finder-Views-For-Folders-And-Su b-Folders_2.htm
    5. rerun the offending application and file chooser works

  • Indesign CS5.5 v7.5.2 on Mac 10.7.2 Crashing when updating links

My first post here, so please be gentle.
I have had a constant problem for a couple of weeks with linked PDF files placed in CS5.5 - whenever I try to update the link it crashes. Yes its variable, it does it for some PDF's/links, but not for others.
I assumed it must be a corrupt something, however as I am not originating the PDF, I cannot change them, I can only open and place them for printing.
The log for interest can be downloaded from www.inception.co.uk/indesign_crash_log.txt
Is there a way of seeing why it crashed (ie a corrupt font or permission etc.)
I have been trying to resolve this for 3 days now, I have done a check on the integrity of the hard drive, I have removed and re-installed the complete adobe suite (with updates), I have recreated the PDF by opening in Acrobat and then exporting it page by page (each page has the same problem), I have re set all my permissions using coctail.
Please help, im ready to destroy my macbook with a big hammer, and they way my mackbook has been so solid over the last couple of years - i fear for the hammer.
    Gareth

These problems are rarely easy to debug.
It appears from your crash report:
    5   com.adobe.PDFL                     0x216ef8e3 PDDocGetMergedXAPKeywords + 86221
That the problem is in the Adobe PDF Library (not surprising, this is what reads PDF files) when getting "merged XAP keywords," whatever those are.
I believe the XAP: metadata has been superceded by XMP metadata, so this suggests your PDF files have corrupt XMP metadata, or XMP metadata that InDesign cannot deal with.
You might try running some of the preflights and fixups in Acrobat that relate to analysis of XMP metadata,
or simply removing XMP Metadata from the PDF entirely, again in Acrobat.
It sounds like this is a genuine InDesign bug (even if your PDF file was damaged, it should not crash ID!), so you should open a case with Adobe Support and get them to file a bug (http://adobe.com/go/supportportal). Optimistically, such a bug is unlikely to be fixed in time for CS6, so don't expect miracles. Think of it as making sure your bug doesn't hurt other people two years from now.

  • InDesign CS5 Crash On Updating Links (Windows 7)

Upon opening an InDesign CS5 file, if it finds updated links, it freezes before fully completing the updating process. I then have to force-close InDesign (using Ctrl-Alt-Del). When I then relaunch InDesign, the file opens with no problems and the links have been updated correctly. This happens every time there is any kind of updated link. Brand new document, created yesterday, from scratch, in CS5. Brand new installation of both Windows 7 (32-bit) and CS5 suite. Intel core duo, 2GB of RAM, 900GB of free disk space on a 1TB drive. Suggestions most welcome.

The good news is: as of today I have switched over to an "all PDF" workflow for all vector graphics that I bring into InDesign, for all current projects starting today. It was a bit of a pain to convert my entire 150-page document with 220 EPS links over to PDF, but now that it is done it is working very nicely and we are finally "up to date" after jettisoning the evidently dog-eared EPS format.
As you suggested, I am importing multi-page PDF, and then selecting the individual pages in the InDesign Import options.
The bad news is that the InDesign is *still* crashing when updating links (which are now to PDF files and no longer EPS). As before, this problem goes away if I set Display preferences for vector graphics to "Proxy" rather than "High Resolution." Because of various deadlines, and because this is not a fatal problem and has a workaround, I am going to ignore the issue for a while and try to get some actual work done.
Thank you however for the very helpful suggestions.

  • Indesign 5.5 crash issues when updating links

I am having crash issues when updating links and I don’t know how to trouble shoot the issues.
I have adobe creative suite 5.5 and I am using a third party plug in called wordsflow to allow updating of MS word documents without losing formatting in Indesign.
I have been in contact with the plug creator and they seem to think that the way the indesign importer is handling images is causing the problem.
I am not a particularly experienced Indesign user. How do I go about working out what the issue is?

At first it does appear that the plug in is the problem, however i suspect that the builders of the plugin are correct, in that it is the way in design in handling images in links.
the problem is worse when any image in anchored any where with in the document.
when the updating links screen pops up, the point where it freezes and then indesign crashes is infact on a linked image file consistantly.
broswing other indesign link issues it appears i am not the only person with image link problems.
My question is aside form turning off the plug in, what else can i do to search for the potential issue?

  • Crash when updating site cache?  MM_Username1?

    Hi,
All of a sudden, tonight, DW8.0.2 will no longer open or load
    one of my
sites, crashing when "Updating Site Cache". The site is ASP
    linked to an SQL
    database.
Checking the file that the cache gets to, I notice that the
    problem file is
within a sub-directory of the site, called "/admin". Thing is
    though, it's
not always the same file, but it IS always a file within the
    /admin
    sub-directory.
Within this sub-directory I altered, by hand, the Login User
    code and
Restrict Access to Page code to create and use the session
    variable
MM_Username1 as opposed to the default MM_Username.
Could this be the reason for the sudden trouble with the site
    cache? I am
puzzled because the site was working fine for a few weeks
    now, with this
    sub-directory included, and I didn't create the MM_Username1
    issue today
either, it has also been working fine for a good few weeks
    now. I've also
not added anything new to the site, that I am aware of.
When I remove the sub-directory from the site, the Updating
    Site Cache works
fine, so I am 100% sure there is a problem with the files
    within this
sub-directory. How will I know which one though?
I've tried this, as recommended by Adobe, but I still get a
    freeze-up when
    re-creating the cache:
    1. Try renaming the Dreamweaver user configuration folder, so
    that
Dreamweaver will automatically generate a new user
    configuration folder the
next time Dreamweaver launches. The Configuration folder is
    located here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\<username>\Application
    Data\Macromedia\Dreamweaver
    8\Configuration
    2. Recreate your Dreamweaver user settings in the registry as
    follows:
Launch the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button,
    choose Run, then
type "regedit". In the Registry Editor, navigate to this
    folder:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Dreamweaver 8
Rename the "Dreamweaver 8" key to "DreamweaverOLD", so that
    Dreamweaver will
automatically generate a new user settings key the next time
    you launch it.
    3. Recreate your Dreamweaver site definitions in the registry
    as follows.
The steps below will delete your site definitions in
    Dreamweaver.
    4. Launch the Registry Editor by clicking the Start button,
    choose Run, then
type "regedit". In the Registry Editor, navigate to this
    folder:
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Macromedia\Common\8\Sites
Rename the "Sites" key to "SitesOLD", so that Dreamweaver
    will automatically
generate a new Sites key the next time you launch it.
    Any further advice?
    Regards
    nath.

    Found it! Jeesh.
I had a querystring value in my UPDATE redirect URL which was
    coded
    incorrectly!!!
I am frustrated that, rather than just highlighting the error
    or, at the
very least, producing an error when opening the specific
    file, this type of
thing crashed the entire DW programme.
The time I spent in Notepad today changing MM_Username1 back
    to
MM_Username!! Turns out that was nothing to do with it.
    <groan> Yeah,
that's right, laugh it up! :o)
    Anyway, solved now. A misplaced ", %, ), (, <, >, &
    etc can cause you no
    end of grief! :o(

  • Indesign crashes when updating incopy assignments!

    Hi,
I've read through some forums and it appears others are having this problem.
When I open indesign and it says do you want to update links (referring to the incopy assignements) that need updated.
I click ok, and Indesign crashes!!!!
One thing I read could be the issue....
    - anchored objects, (incopy can't handle all the anchored objects)
That is RIDICULOUS if that is the issue.  If so, Adobe should have had a disclaimer....don't buy incopy if you plan on having more than text in your document.
There are no error messages that come up, the program just crashes.  I'm using Indesign CS5 version 7.
A solution I read was to save the indesign file that keeps crashing when updating the assignments as an .idml file.
I tried this and it appeared to work, but what a joke!
This is very unreliable and has caused a lot of stress.
Anyone else have any solutions or can ADOBE come up with a solution???
    Thanks

First question is are you fully patched to 7.0.4? If not, download and install that patch.
Second: Do you have Suitcase Fusion 3 installed? If so, try disabling the autoactivation plugin.

Crash when update Dreamweaver 8 to 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 in MAC
PowerMac G5 Quad with Mac OS 10.4.7

You mean the people that that just 'send report to apple' and get on with it I presume? Like me most of the time. Well, as we all know, there are so many variables. The fact is, as far as I'm concerned right now is that Logic 8.0.1 needs some serious work. I can for sure say that I have noticed a snappier response as far as the graphics go. But as for overall performance, it needs an update. I'm trying not to be negative toward your positive thread however, do a search on overloads and, well, they will unfortunately outweigh this thread for sure. It does make me wonder mind how the price of a pro app like Logic tumbled when apple released the Logic studio box. It's £100 cheaper than Cubase 4. It just makes me think garage band ultimate edition right now.

  • Indesign crashes when updating incopy content

I'm having a lot of bother with (Mac) Indesign CS6 crashing when updating Incopy content. The problem first appeared after upgrading from CS4 to CS6 on OSX 10.6.8.
I've since upgraded to Mountain Lion (10.8.2) and the problem still persists (with fully updated InDesign 8.01 and Incopy).
Incopy is Windows version if that has any bearing on the issue.
The crash occurs when opening an Indesign document with Incopy content that has been edited. I can open the document if I choose not to update content, but ID will subsequently crash if I choose to manually update the content from the assignments dialog. This doesn't happen with all my documents - perhaps about 1 in 4 with Incopy assignments.
I can place the ICML files in a new Indesign document without incedent. In other words the ICML files don't appear to be corrupt.
    Suggestions anyone?

My itouch crashed when updating to ios6 and now won't restore! Getting an error code (14). Any ideas?

    Error 13, 14, 35 and 50 (or -50)
These errors are typically resolved by performing one or more of the steps listed below:
Perform USB isolation troubleshooting, including trying a different USB port directly on the computer. See the advanced steps below for USB troubleshooting.
Put a USB 2.0 hub between the device and the computer.
    Try a different USB 30-pin dock-connector cable.
    Eliminate third-party security software conflicts.
There may be third-party software installed that modifies your default packet size in Windows by inserting one or more TcpWindowSize entries into your registry. Your default packet size being set incorrectly can cause this error. Contact the manufacturer of the software that installed the packet-size modification for assistance. Or, follow this article by Microsoft: How to reset Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) to reset the packet size back to the default for Windows.
Connect your computer directly to your Internet source, bypassing any routers, hubs, or switches. You may need to restart your computer and modem to get online.
Try to restore from another known-good computer and network.

  • Why does RoboHelp 8 crash when compiling merged HTML help after deleting a child project in TOC

Why does RoboHelp 8 crash when compiling merged HTML help after deleting a child project in TOC? I would be grateful for any assistance.
    Here's the situation:
-- I recently upgraded from RoboHelp X5 to RoboHelp 8. I upgraded my projects to RoboHelp 8 projects.
-- One large help system I manage is built such that there is one master project and about 25 child projects. Each of these is its own item in the master project TOC.
-- In RoboHelp X5 I never had any trouble deleting these.
-- However now in RoboHelp 8, whenever I delete one (by opening TOC pod, right-clicking on item in question, and clicking Delete), and proceed to "Generate Primary Layout" (MS HTML Help), the generation/compilation process proceeds as far as "Generating full-text search data" and then the whole program crashes!
Am I doing something wrong? Is there a bug in the software? I have installed patches 8.0.1 and 8.0.2.
Once again, I thank you in advance for any pointers.

  • Photoshop CS5 keeps crashing when I try to upload file

Photoshop CS5 keeps crashing when I try to upload file.  Any suggestions?
I'm new to Photoshop and trying to figure it out.  It does not do this in Illustrator.
I have Mac Book Pro OS X
    Thanks!

update your video card driver from the GPU maker's web site (not MS).
Possibly not as pertinent with a MacBook than with a Windows system...  Drivers normally come through Apple for Macs.
Likely Chris missed that you mentioned you're running OSX, Stephen, and this is the Windows-specific forum.  You might want to ask on the Macintosh-specific forum...   http://forums.adobe.com/community/photoshop/photoshop_macintosh

  • Photoshop crashes when opening more than 10 files at once

CS4 crashes when I open too many files at once.  Like more than 10.  They're not even very big files.

What are Your Photoshop – Preferences – Performance-settings?
Other than that You might consider doing OS-maintenance, like repairing permissions, cleaning PRAM etc. and trashing Photoshop-prefs … all of which might or might not help.
