Robohelp 11 - Creating hyperlinks within a topic

Hi community,
Just a quick question, tried to figure it out but can't seem to see how.
I'd like to create hyperlinks in a specific topic that the user will be able to click on and it will jump the user to a specific place in the same topic (Ex: in section 2.1, in the middle of some explanation, refer to the heading of section 2.2).
I looked it up, but can only seem to be able to configure hyperlinks to other topics or something outside of RoboHelp.
Could someone help me with that ?
Tks in advance

You first need to create a bookmark in the topic you want to jump to. Place your text cursor at the jump location (don't select any text) and select Insert > Bookmark. Enter a name without spaces. On the topic you want to jump from, create a hyperlink like you are used to. Instead of choosing the topic, choose the topic with the text #bookmarkname attached. (Bookmarkname will be the text you inserted on creating a bookmark.)
Kind regards,
Willam

  • How to create hyperlink within HTML using PPTX for import .

    Hi ,
    I am using PPTX to publish HTML5 - using Captivate 8.0
    Hyper-linking is working in PPTX but not working in HTML .
    Please help.
    Regards,
    Amit

    Captivate is not a PPTX- converter to HTML5, that is a wrong perception. If you only want a presentation, why not use a plugin for PPT, there are a lot around:
    When a ppt is imported, each slide is converted to a 'movie' slide in Captivate, it will keep all animations but that is it. Objects do not have a separate timeline. If you want to use the real power of Captivate - an eLearning authoring tool, not a presentation tool like ppt - you'll have to use the ppt-assets, create Captivate-slides with them and then add interactivity like buttons, hyperlinks etc.

  • How to add jump to location within same topic?

    We are migrating a client-server application to being a SaaS application.  In the process, we need to consolidate all of our 650+ context-sensitive topics into a much smaller number of what we're calling "page topics".  Each page topic will document all of the data entry fields, drop-down menus, checkboxes, and radio buttons available in a single data entry window of the SaaS application.  Since some of these windows contain dozens of data entry fields, etc., their page topics will be long.  We'd like to simplify the user's task of finding a specific data entry item by including a list of links at the top of each page topic that jump to all of the respective data entry items covered in the topic.
    While I've created countless jumps between topics, I haven't been able to find a way to create jumps within a topic.  I currently use RH X5 on a Windows XP machine, but I am considering upgrading to RH 8.  Also, while the Help system in question is currently compiled as Microsoft HTML Help (.chm), I plan to move to WebHelp format for our SaaS application.  Is there a way to create intra-topic jumps in RH X5?  How about RH 8?
    Many thanks for any suggestions you can make!

    Hi Elisa
    I'm shocked! Me? Harsh?
    Okay, I do admit to being a bit opinionated when it comes to the Word/HTML bit.
    A couple of points here.
    The Mini-TOC placeholder may be inserted independently inside any topic you like. You aren't limited to using it inside Master Pages.
    The behavior you cite isn't a WebHelp behavior. It's a standard behaviour you see with Web Browsers. And there is a workaround. Just position your cursor at the end of the text and press Enter many times to create "White space" at the bottom of the topic. This then allows the page to position to the Bookmark properly.
    And before someone chides me and says: You know, Mr. Man, that if the user prints that topic it will make more paper come out of the printer!
    I will heartily agree with you. That's the trade off. But why is the user printing the electronic documentation anyway?  After all, it *IS* called WebHelp for a reason.
    Cheers all... Rick

  • Hyperlinks within Crystal Reports

    Hello,
    I am using Crystal Reports to create a statement. We would like to include hyperlinks in our report. We have already created hyperlinks within the report. The hyperlinks are only operational when I click within the subreport. I want to process my report to a PDF and have the hyperlinks work. Any Suggestions? I am currently working in Crystal 8.5 (we have 10 but our database is not matching up).

    As an alternative, at least one of the 3rd-party Crystal Reports Manager tools listed at http://www.kenhamady.com/bookmarks.html can use visible or hidden (white font) formulas anywhere within a Crystal report (including inside subreports) to create file, web, or email links at that same location within the pdf export of the report. Optionally, an image (such as a .png button image can be added to provide a GUI for the link.

The hyperlinks are only operational when I click within the subreport. I want to process my report to a PDF and have the hyperlinks work. To create the hyperlinks, we placed a forumla into the hyperlink tab to an existing webpage. The formula that we have established grabs data from our database and places it into the webpage browser address. Any Suggestions? I am currently working in Crystal 11.5.

    U can include any text rt click on it goto format text

  • Can't create hyperlink with FTP:// URL

    I am unable to create hyperlinks within iWeb 1.1.1 to anything other than http:// URLs. I am trying to create a link that points to an external ftp server in the form of:
    ftp://ftp.tattercoats.com
    It appears that the only URLs recognized and/or accepted by iWed are http:// URLs -- which is pretty limiting considering that there are ftp:// ftps:// and https:// sites out there.
    How do I accomplish this?
    Thanks!! Erik

    Welcome to the discussions, Erik.
    Those other URL's are not allowed within iWeb. You CAN edit the html after publishing, though, to add them.

  • Creating a hyperlink for a subtopic within a topic.

    Hello,
    I hope that this question does not confuse anyone but here it is! I have created a topic in Robohelp 8 with various sub-topics that describe the topic.
    My desire is to create hyperlinks for the sub-topics after the intro to the sub-topics listed under the Topic.  This would eliminate the user from having to scoll down the topic page to find the applicable sub-topics to review.
    Does anyone know how to do this, Robohelp only shows hyperlinks to web addresses, email, FTP, and files?
    For example: I would like to show the below sub-topics with hyperlinks to the sub-topics under the topic (Using Search).
    Using Advanced Search
    Using Exact Search
    Additional Search Methods

    Hi Wendy
    What you would need to do using Jennifer's approach would be to insert a list as she has shown at the top of the page and link explicitly to the bookmark farther down the page. Sure, the users won't see the bookmarks. You would need to repeat the text just before the content.
    RoboHelp 8 introduces a feature you may wish to use. It is called a "Mini-TOC Placeholder". So you would create these sections and assign a Heading Level to the first line of each section. Then insert the Mini-TOC at the top of the page. This will do a similar thing by presenting links pointing to content farther down the page. Functionally, it will look and behave identically to what Jennifer proposed, but will be much simpler to create because you don't have to type the text used for the links and you don't have to create the bookmarks and you don't have to establish the links. The placeholder handles all that for you.

  • To create a dvd and include hyperlinks within the presentations to further info

    I want to create a DVD with a a main menu that feeds into various slideshows and pdf documents. But I want to include hyperlinks within these slideshows and pdf's that will bring you to further information (Sub Folders lets say!) that will not be contained within the initial slideshows and pdf documents but held somewhere on the dvd. How do I create these hyperlinks or can this be done?

    Hi
    I doubt that very much.
    a Video-DVD as You make with iDVD is to be played on any standard DVD-Player and they can not address internet or playback .pdf.
    • You can store Data-material on a Video-DVD but need a computer to use it
    • You can convert a .pdf file into a movie to be viewed as any other movie (I never get good enough quality in this conversion though)
    and
    You can make the DVD into a Data-DVD on Desktop/Finder and convert Your movies into QuickTime .mov (or other) to be played on PC/Mac - but this will not play in any DVD-player.
    Have You ever seen a DVD that work as You describe Your wish ? I never.
    Yours Bengt W

  • How to create hyperlinks in Acrobat 9 Pro?

    Hi everyone,
    Is there a way to create hyperlinks from within Acrobat 9 Pro? If so, can you let me know how? I am having a hard time finding out how to do so.
    Thank you in advance for your help:)

    I did this from the advanced menu to make all hyperlinks work. All I got were boxes around my links that are not clikcable to the web page.
    Now I cannot undo this.

  • My customer wants to create hyperlinks in the editor - surely this is possible?  And, if so, how?

    My customer simply wants to create hyperlinks when adding content to her site; this doesn't seem possible within the Muse editing interface.  It must be, surely?  That's the most basic thing to do with a web page.

    At current stage In browser editing does not includes hyperlinks , but that’s definitely a request we hear often. Unfortunately we can’t comment on what features are coming to Adobe Muse, but please know the team is listening!

  • Creating Hyperlink in Adobe Reader Pro 9

    I am trying to create a Hyperlink within a pdf with Adobe Reader Pro 9.  The way I understand it is that you are suppose to highlight the text to be used as the hyperlink and use the tool function that looks like two chain links together.  The problem is that that tool is greyed out so that I cannot use it.  I have opened multiple documents and they are all like this.  Can anyone tell me what the issue is?

    First, we need to know what product you actually have. There is no Adobe Reader Pro 9. There is Adobe Reader and Adobe Acrobat Pro. Reader cannot create links or edit PDF files. Acrobat can.

  • Garbled text when creating hyperlinks

    I have a user who is creating hyperlinks in the Table of Contents of a 500 page PDF to pages within the PDF. After 10-15 hyperlinks, she gets strange characters and garbled text on some of the pages. If she saves and closes the document and reopens, she can go back to working but it will reoccur soon again. She is using Acrobat 9 Professional on Windows 7 Enterprise. She has the latest updates for Acrobat. Any thoughts?
    thanks

    Most of the document was converted from Microsoft Excel 2007 documents. The Table of Contents was converted from Microsoft Word 2007 document.

  • How do we create Hyperlink to local file on c:\ in Web Intelligence

    How de we create Hyperlink to local file on c:\ in Web Intelligence.
    Thanks in advance,
    K.

    K,
    You can't hyperlink to a local file when you are in WebI.  The ability to hyperlink requires the http protocol to be employed, wrapped within a web service (like IIS, for instance).  So to hyperlink to any file, that file must be a part of a web service, and the web service must have access to the folder (again, like in IIS you must create web shares and IIS must "mount" those shares in an http environment).  Hopefully I'm making sense to you on why it can't be done.
    On the other hand, content that is static and has been made available for browsing on the web can also be linked to by populating a cell in a WebI report, marking that cell as "read cell contents as hyperlink", etc, etc.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Can you add appliedCharStyle while creating hyperlink

    I noticed that the menu to create a hyperlink manually now has an option to apply a character style to the text source. Is it possible to apply a character style while adding a hyperlink in JavaScript? I am using findGrep() to iterate through a large document adding hyperlinks to found text. I currently use changeGrepPreferences (see bottom of script below). But I thought it might be faster to use the new feature.
    If it is possible to do apply the character style in while adding the hyperlink, how would I do it? My attempt below does not work.
    var myDoc = app.activeDocument;
    var charastyles = myDoc.characterStyles.everyItem().name;
    app.changeGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
    app.findGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
    app.findGrepPreferences.findWhat = '[MAP][ELO][PR]S:';
    var foundCodes = myDoc.findGrep()
    for (var i = foundCodes.length - 1; i >= 0; i--) {
    switch (foundCodes[i].contents)
        case "MEPS:":
    var _charStyle = app.activeDocument.appliedCharacterStyle = "Hyperlink";  //
    var _hlinkSource = app.activeDocument.hyperlinkTextSources.add(foundCodes[i]);
        var _destination = app.activeDocument.hyperlinkURLDestinations.add("http://www.meps.com");
        app.activeDocument.hyperlinks.add(_hlinkSource, _destination, _charStyle) // <----this works without the _charStyle
    break;
    //three more cases go here
    alert ("Not a good selection."); exit ()
    //app.changeGrepPreferences.appliedCharacterStyle = 'Hyperlink'; <--- I have been using these lines to change the character style
    //myDoc.changeGrep();
    app.changeGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
    app.findGrepPreferences = NothingEnum.nothing;
    alert ("Done")

    If you know basic HTML you can add whatever you want after you export from Aperture, but I don't know of a way to add arbitrary hyperlinks within Aperture. Adding minor changes to the basic HTML Aperture produces is easy, but if you have a lot of extra changes, you might want to use another tool designed for more customized web pages.

  • Internal hyperlinks within Apple Mail

    Does anyone know how to create internal hyperlinks within Apple Mail?
    For instance, I want to put something like "contents" at the start of an email where I can click on the title
    Content 1
    Content 2
    Content 3
    to bring me to the paragraphs below
    Content 1
    blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
    blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
    Content 2
    blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
    blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
    Content 3
    blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
    blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah, blah,
    Thanks! Much appreciated.

    I think you would probably have to create an HTML page with anchors and then "share" that via e-mail. While HTML does support this, and Apple Mail supports HTML e-mail, such a thing was never intended. Modern e-mail is big hack-job. It is unlikely that such an e-mail message would really work in practice the way you expect.
