Yes, that was the link I deleted. I’m sorry if my explanation was clumsy. I did exactly what you said to do and that fixed it.  ☺

  • When I open Google there is a space in the middle of the screen to type in what I need to search but I cannot find anything similar to that in Firefox.

When I open firefox where do I type what I am looking for; similar to how Google has it in the middle of the screen. Where do I type in the words. So frustrating that something so simple is not easily found and your 'tour" did not show this. At this point, I do not like firefox.

    To re-install iPhoto
    1. Put the iPhoto.app in the trash (Drag it from your Applications Folder to the trash)
2a: On 10.5:  Go to HD/Library/Receipts and remove any pkg file there with iPhoto in the name.
2b: On 10.6: Those receipts may be found as follows:  In the Finder use the Go menu and select Go To Folder. In the resulting window type
    /var/db/receipts/
    2c: on 10.7 or later they're at
    /private/var/db/receipts
A Finder Window will open at that location and you can remove the iPhoto pkg files.
    3. Re-install.
If you purchased an iLife Disk, then iPhoto is on it.
If iPhoto was installed on your Mac when you go it then it’s on the System Restore disks that came with your Mac. Insert the first one and opt to ‘Install Bundled Applications Only.
If you purchased it on the App Store or have a Recent Mac you can find it in your Purchases List.

I just opened an "old" project in a newer version of iPhoto and the pages in the book doubled in number with the seam in the middle of each page.  Suggestions?

    Start with Try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto/
    Data/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
If that doesn't help continue with:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.

Close all open apps by double-tapping the home button, then swiping up and off the screen with the app window (not the smaller icon).
Reset your device: hold down the home button along with the sleep/wake button until the screen goes black and you see the Apple, then let go. (No data loss)

  • What to do when my Macbook air won't load from startup. It hangs in the middle during the black apple screen at the beginning

my Mac book air will not start up it hangs in the middle of the status bar when I turn it on and will not move.

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
To restart an unresponsive computer, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If a desktop Mac hangs at a plain gray screen with a movable cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Press and hold the button on the side of an Apple wireless keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you're using a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
    Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.

  • How do I get my google search bar back in the middle of my page insead of the Blank searh engine that is on my start up page now

Before I did the last upgrade with Firefox, I had the Google search bar in the middle of my start page. Now , after the upgrade, my Google search bar is up on a tool bar at top of the page and the when you type something in the large Firefox box in the middle of the page does nothing even though it has the Search box to the right of it. The restore last session is under that. I just have a large box in the middle of start page that does nothing. I wish that was my Google search box again.

''Restoring Google Search page as the home page''
What you are looking at on the web page is a '''search form''', not a search bar. Mozilla changed the default home page to '''about:home''' which is supposed to be faster because it is on your computer, but they piled on a few ornaments. There is a space which is essentially advertising space for Mozilla, or to tell you that you have a previous session available below the search form area.
You can replace that page with a real Google Search page http://www.google.com which like other Google pages has links at the top to other Google applications and tells you if you are logged into Google such as for GMail.
    "Alt" > Tools > '''Options''' > General >
:When Firefox starts: "Show my homepage":
    :Home Page: http://www.google.com
:Press "Ok" at the bottom of the options window.
Specific information on installing a home page is in
    :http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/How%20to%20set%20the%20home%20page
    ''Some problems with terminology''
The '''search bar''' is part of your toolbars and you can bring up any search engine you want in it.
Google has their own "Google Toolbar" extension, which you would do well to avoid.
The large empty space on the '''about:home''' default home page, is to tell you that you have a previous session available. You don't need that notification you can bring up your "Previous Session" from the History menu, and after that you can bring up previous windows (or all of them also from same History menu).
In fact if you would like to see the notification at the end of your session, enabling you to restore your current tabs see item #31 (#tabslost) in the following: ...
You can make Firefox '''Firefox 5.0''' look like Firefox 3.6.18, see numbered items 1-10 in the following topic [http://dmcritchie.mvps.org/firefox/firefox-problems.htm#fx4interface Fix Firefox 4.0 toolbar user interface, problems (Make Firefox 5.0, or 4.0.1, look like 3.6)]. • How do I get rid of the Orange Fox in the middle of the page every time I pull up Firefox. Very annoying.

I pull up Firefox and am blasted out of my socks by a huge orange fox. I hate that. I just want a page to pull up that has a search engine in the middle of the page so I can begin surfing. The fox is attention grabbing and annoying.

Mozilla shows snippets on the about:home page to run different campaigns and that changes regularly.
If you prefer not to see snippets on the about:home page or if there are problems with a snippet then you can set the <b>browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl</b> pref to an empty string on the <b>about:config</b> page.
Delete the <b>storage\persistent\moz-safe-about+home</b> folder in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed ("3-bar" Firefox menu button > Exit/Quit) to remove snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox use a default snippet set.
You can reset the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref via the right-click context menu to the default value to re-enable the snippets and make Firefox recreate the moz-safe-about+home folder.
Close and restart Firefox after changing the value of the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref.
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • Satellite M60-139: Split from button to the middle of the lid

Hello Forum-Friends and greetings from cologne/germany,
I hope I can describe my problem good enough to find help although my bad english ;-)
Yesterday I recognised a tore (in german it is called "Riss") in the lid (in german we say "Deckel") of my M60-139 notebook.
This tore grows from the opening-button ca. 3cm to the middle of the lid. If needed I can send you a picture ...
    So my question is:
How can I open the LCD and the lid to glue the tore from inside with a very strong 2-component-epoxy to prevent the tore growing ?
    Regards

Bluescream thats it ! Thanks to you and to the other members !
Your idea was quite good and as toshiba just sended me the hint to contact a toshiba service
shop (in south-germany as I live in cologne which is in nordrhein-westfalen) I came to the opinion to do it myself. Also I got no answer if this is a material problem and if toshiba will repair this for free ... Not very good !
    So I tried your perfect description-link !
The bezel is just holded by 4 screws and the rest are just simple clips. The LCD-Frame is fixed with (I think it were) 4 screws too and I could reach the problem zone which was hidden under a kind of aluminium foliatec. Bending this foliatec away it was possible to glue the inner side of the tore with 2-component-epoxy-glue ! There is no problem with hidden or very difficult items - you can just see what to open and it is very logical.
Now (after this glueing-operation) it even looks damaged but I hope the tore will not grow up. The laptop works ... and I don't have to give it away to toshiba for month !
    Thanks to all forum-members !

  • How to invoke a java application in the middle of the process

In the middle of one process, I want to invoke a java application. After the java application, the process will continue and select a path based on the result of the java application. Which activity can be used to invoke a java application in the middle of the process?
    Thanks

    BPM Changes:
    1. Under 'External Resources' create a new resource of type 'Server Configuration'. Specify the host port and path of your servlet here. This will be invoked from your process. Lets name this configuration as 'myExternalConf'.
    2. Create an interactive activity say 'InvokeMyApplication' in your process. The main task of this application should be external task. (Implementation Type = External)
    3. Create the prepareMethod method say 'prepareExternal'. Set the arguments for this method as output arguments. These arguments will be available to you in your external servlet.
    4. Create the commit method say 'commitExternal'. Set the arguments as input arguments. The external servlet will return these arguments back to the process.
    5. Check the 'Use configuration' checkbox for your main task (external task). Select 'myExternalConf' here.
    Servlet changes:
When the user executes your 'InvokeMyApplication' activity, he will be taken to the external servlet of your external application. You will be passed the currentActivity, currentParticipant, instanceID and one more argument (which I dont remember :( ) as url parameters.
    1. In this servlet, open a PAPI/PAPI WS session for the participant passed to the servlet as url parameter
    2. Use the currentActivity ( passed in url parameter), to call prepare method on this activity. This will return you with the arguments defined in 'prepareExternal' method.
    3. Using these argumets, or otherwise, you can do whatever you want in this servlet. When done prepare the arguments to pass back to BPM.
    4. call papiService.activityCommit and return the arguments.
    5. Flow goes back to your BPM application

It is impossible to see what you are typing. You have to move the keyboard to check for any mistakes. It is extremely frustrating. Please help!
