RoboHELP 4.0 and 7.0

Can RoboHELP 4.0 and/or 7.0 be used to add context-sensitive
Help (pop-up help that is accessed with a small questionmark)
to applications developed in Developer 2000 with Oracle 8.0? If
not, what Help authoring tool can be used for this purpose?
Thank you.
null

Yes it can. I used it on a project where it was context
sensitive down to the form level..not the field level. It has
been awhile but if you have questions we can talk.

  • RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features

I looked at some online training that had a really nice glossary feature.  I'm trying to figure out if Robohelp is what I need to accomplish something like this since it claims to have such great glossary, Index, and TOC features.  However,  I can't find a demo developed in Robohelp showing what these features are capable of.  Does anyone know of any demonstrations that I could view to see if this is what I'm looking for before I purchase?

No, I actually don't have anything yet.  I considered downloading the trial version, but I didn't want to spend the time to learn the software if it didn't have what I needed.
I see from your site that it is what I'm looking, and thank you so much for sending me that link.  Now I know, buying RoboHelp and learning it won't be a waste of time and money.

Subject: RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features
    Hi, Melbert2000
It's not clear whether you already use RoboHelp or have installed the trial version as part of your evaluation. Assuming you have, each release of RoboHelp comes with sample projects to help explore features. For example, Adobe RoboHelp 8 comes with a project called Web Graphics.
One quick way to see the TOC/Index/Glossary in action would be on my site, called Clownfish School.
    http://www.showmethedemo.com/clownfish_school/
You will notice the Glossary is visible in two ways. First, as a Glossary button which shows in the Navigation pane. Second is in the form or expanding hotspots within topic text. You can see some examples if you go to the topic "News from Thailand and Greece" Click on the maroon color words "Anemonefish" and "Clownfish" and you will see how the Glossary hotspots show or hide as you click on them.
As part of your purchase evaluation, I would recommend you download the Adobe RoboHelp Reviewer's Guide here to get a better idea of the various features:
    https://acrobat.com/#d=5bE00menRN24n8TzSel0Iw
And the Web Graphics Sample project can be downloaded here:

  • RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10

As the title says, RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10. Any ideas for recovering or importing the x5 TOC and index?
Before this is suggested, auto-create is not an option.

    Hi there
Perhaps give this a try. From the Project Manager pod, right-click the Table of Contents area and choose "New Table of Contents". Give it a name and enable the "Copy existing Table of Contents" check box. Then click the Ellipsis icon on the far right side. See if you have a .HHC file in the folder. Odds are, you will. That will be the existing (missing) TOC.
Hopefully that will work. If so, repeat the process for the index.
I think when upgrading the project something goes wrong with naming.
Let us know if this helps... Rick

  • RoboHelp Office 2000 and 9.1

Just found my copy of RoboHelp Office 2000 and 9.1 and would like to install them on my new computer and get back to using the program.
    Two questions:
    1. Which of the above versions is the newest?  I realize that they are both quite old but can't remember which is the latest.
    2. Can either version run on Windows 7?  I am using Windows Word 2003.
    Thanks for any input.
    Peg

    Hi Peg.
RH Office 2000 came out sometime in 1999 whilst I believe that RH 9.1 came up afterwards. However neither would support Office 2003 or Windows 7. If you weren't using any Word features maybe you could get one version installed and running but if you had any issues, you'd be on your own as far as Adobe Support is concerned. If you can afford it, I'd strongly recommend you buy the latest version RH8. It is miles better than either of the versions you currently have.

  • Accessing the Open dialog causes RoboHelp to hang and eventually crash.

Whenever I attempt to take an action that requires the Windows "open" dialog, RoboHelp starts to hang and eventually crashes.
My only thought: I've seen other .NET applications have issues like this where the framework steals window focus from the Windows dialog. Could this be happening here?
Has anyone ever seen anything like this? Any ideas?
    Many thanks!

Does the dialog even make an appearance? Or does it behave as if the dialog is there but unseen?
If the former, I'd say I smell a bug somewhere. But if it's the latter, try pressing and holding your Windows key on the keyboard. Then press the left arrow key a couple of times. Under some conditions dialogs will appear but be out of the viewable space. If that has happened, that key combination should coax the window back into the viewable area.

  • Robohelp 9, Citrix, and TFS, a good combination?

    Hi,
We are using RoboHelp 9 installed in a Citrix environment, using Team Foundation Systems (TFS) as a version control system.
Some users of RoboHelp lose their Recent projects list everytime they log off the system and log back in. They also lose all information about the TFS server and have to go through the whole process of linking to a TFS server and getting back their workspace everytime they want to open a project after they've logged off their system.
The exact same configuration works well for some users, wheras they do not loose their recent projects list nor their connection information with TFS whether they log off their system or not.
Any ideas where the problem lies?
    Thanks

Rh10 is cool with having projects on a server, not Rh10 itself. My understanding too is this is a breach of the licence agreement as it is sold on a one user per licence basis.

When I import my help in application search doesn't work. How
to generate help without any exceptions?

    Hi!
I'm still having the same problem I was hoping to find some solution, because it is really annoying.
I've noticed that this exception occurs after some minor modification in topic text (e.g. correcting a grammar mistake). Also, after generating JAVA help and viewing the results, the topics which have "?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8" ? at the beginning, won’t be displayed correctly and won’t be found in the search results.
So, I was not able to find the problem, although my colleague can modify the same help projects, and won’t get the same exception. So, my PC was changed, Robo Help installed freshly, but this problem still remains .
    Well, any clues?

  • RoboHelp X5 HTML and ClearCase 7

We use RoboHelp X5 for help file creation. We upgraded our version control system to Rational ClearCase 7 recently. Since then, we noticed that RoboHelp HTML did not work. On giving run command, curser goes busy for a while and nothing happens further. However, In the Windows Taskbar under Process menu, we can see RoboHTML.exe as a running process that uses about 10 MB of memory. But the program doesn't launch.
I searched with specific keywords and found this:
    https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=984&uid=swg21258563&rat lid=cctocbody
They give a workaround of a software upgrade/downgrade! Right now we do not have a provision for an upgrade or downgrade as per the company policy. But, there are two systems with the same softwares installed and working fine. But those who use it however have no clue of the workaround. It just worked!
This means that there is a fix or workaround available. I searched with all possible keywords and combination, yet did not get any clue. At least if we can identify the real cause, as to why this clearcase installation affects RH, it would help in finding a workaround.
If anyone has a clue, pls help. We depend upon the two working systems whenenver we have to work on RoboHTML. This causes a lot of inconvenience as well as loss of time and effort.

I think only the two vendors could tell you that and maybe they don't know. It could be one or both of them changed something that meant the conflict went away.
It sounds like you are working for a software company and I guess you want all your customers to upgrade to each new version but you will not update even when you hit a barrier. You have two packages that will not work together (the brick wall) and you have to produce updated help (the unstoppable object).
Good luck slogging this one out with your management.

  • RoboHelp 6, XAML and RoboHelp Server 6

Has anybody used RoboHelp 6 or RoboHelp 6 Server to generate
.NET3 compatible XAML Help Files? Also, If I want to try a demo
copy, do I install RoboHelp 6, and then RoboHelp 6 Server? or does
RoboHelp6 Server have everything RoboHelp 6 has? Thanks!

    Hi all
Hopefully Colum won't mind a teensy addition here. RoboHelp 6
all by its itty bitty self is quite capable of producing WebHelp
output that can also exist on a server. The key difference here is
the reporting ability and the ability to automatically index
content such as Word and PDF files.
Often folks misunderstand this. They desire to create output
that is placed on a server (like WebHelp or FlashHelp) and that's
as far as they want or need. But they end up purchasing RoboHelp
Server and it's wasted money. So unless you specifically desire the
features RoboHelp Server offers, you don't need it.
    Cheers... Rick

  • RoboHelp for FrameMaker and FrameMaker 8

I still use the legendary, yet discontinued and unsupported, "RoboHelp for FrameMaker". However, when I installed my new Tech Comm Suite and FM 8. RoboHelp for FrameMaker would not work with FM 8. I know this is a long shot, but does anyone know a workaround to get the defunct RoboHelp for FrameMaker to work with FrameMaker 8? Please do not suggest using RoboHelp to convert the files. That engine is terrible. Also, RoboHelp for FrameMaker, four years later, is still better than mif2go and ePublisher by Webworks.

    Mark,
I meant RH for FrameMaker, and ..
"... RH for FM uses skins, it creates a web help system with a collapsible/expandable TOC, integrated client-side search engine, a better interface for mapping of styles and including or excluding conditional text, and it publishes to a web server. There are many other features."
You can easily substitute RH for FM with ePublisher and add quite a bit more. Since ePublisher to a great extend relies on XML there are so many other cool things you can do.
I am NOT saying it is easier, just that I like it more, and that it supports all of FM's features (incl. 8). The jobs I'm doing at the moment in ePublsher cannot yet be made by RH for FM. (Also I'm integrating both FM and Word and some xMetal XML output into the same help system!
But again it's a matter of opinion. And what you need to accomplish
In a recent seminar by RJ Jacquez from Adobe he admitted that the Tech Com Suite (and RH for FM) was an entry to the market and that they had some way to go yet for RH to 'compete' with ePublisher.
On the price side I quite agree. WebWorks has some pretty steep prices. Which at the same are completely and utterly impossible to understand. I have been given threee different prices for the same solution! Just to mention.
    keep smiling

  • Robohelp 6, Framemaker and WebWorks integration?

I'm responsible for technical documentation at my company.
Yesterday I received an email about Robohelp 6, and decided to
    check it out.
I've used Robohelp before and quite liked it. It's very
useful if you have an existing documentation base in Microsoft
Word; owever nearly all the companies I've worked at that have a
substantial documentation base use Framemaker and not Word as their
standard documentation platform, for a wide variety of reasons.
So, I'm a little disappointed to notice that Robohelp 6
really can't be used practically with Framemaker. Sure, I can
translate all my files to MIF and import them, but then this forces
me to go ahead and translate a lot of documentation manually (the
functionality to do a batch format conversion just doesn't exist).
It also forces me to keep two sets of documents (you can't generate
TOCs or IXs from MIF files apparently). That's just not acceptable
considering that the same company makes both applications.
Evidently RH6 isn't even able to use Framemaker to translate
documents on the fly the way that a third-party application like
    WebWorks is able to do.
Seriously, I can't even say that the products are poorly
integrated, because they're evidently not integrated in any way.
This wouldn't be so bad if Frame 7.2 included the decent
version of WebWorks that used to be included with Frame 6.x,
or was even compatible with that version! But it's not. You
can't use Frame 7.2 with WebWorks. You're stuck with using
ePublisher, which isn't even close to an acceptable replacement as
it's a huge downgrade from the previous bundled app.
So, another online help solution is a dire necessity here,
and Adobe, despite owning both the Robohelp and Framemaker, is
either unable or unwilling to make both work together for a reason
which really escapes me. The one FAQ entry on the subject is beyond
vague and noncommittal and smacks of a half-answer designed to
"stop the technical writers whining about this".
Additionally, considering that Adobe itself is still to this
day bundling Quadralay products with Framemaker, wouldn't it be the
logically expected thing for Robohelp to be able to import WebWorks
and ePublisher projects, at least in part? Yet I don't see any way
in which this can be done.
Robohelp 6 is not a cheap product. At a grand a seat, it
costs more than Photoshop, despite being a much simpler product
(certainly in technical terms). I'd LOVE to be able to recommend
that my company buy a few licenses, but this is really not
something that I can do at this time, nor do I foresee a time when
I'll be able to do so unfortunately.
What can I, as a senior technical writer, expect Adobe to do
to resolve what I see as a serious impasse here?

Hi, tonyemond and welcome to the pond
You may not be aware, but Adobe only recently (within the
last year or so) acquired RoboHelp in the Macromedia deal. I can
understand your frustration and many of the issues you raise are
being addressed in the next version of RoboHelp which is being
developed as we "speak". In fact, it is so far along that you are
invited to join the Adobe RoboHelp pre-release (beta) program for
    the next version.
    You can find details here.
    Adobe
    Technical Communications Blog
I got to attend the sneak peek sessions at STC in Minneapolis
last month where Adobe showed many new features. As you may know,
there is a new version of Framemaker in beta as well (and Adobe
Captivate, too!). So, it takes a while to integrate these
leap-frogging targets. The wait will be rewarded however.
    Enjoy!

  • Robohelp 8.0 and templates

    Hello all ,
I was wondering how do I get templates folder in my project and also please let me know an online tutorial for robohelp 8.0
    Thanks
    Priya

    Hello Priya,
I'm quite new to Robohelp too, so I'm not sure what you are referring to when you ask how to get the templates in Robohelp - do you mean how to import or link FrameMaker content into Robohelp? What type of help format are you generating? Providing details will help forum members give you more specific information. :-)
However, there are a number of very good introduction to Robohelp resources available on the Internet.  Check out the on-demand seminars on Adobe's site:
    http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/event/index.cfm?event=list&loc=en_us&type=&product=RoboHelp&i nterest=&audience=&monthyear=
The seminars towards the bottom of that page refer to Robohelp 8. You need to create an account to view the seminars, but it is free.
Other resources that I personally found very helpful for getting up and running quickly are listed below. Please note that I am in no way affiliated with the creators of the content below, I have only used them in my own learning and think they are excellent.
To get up and running quickly, I have found the gooberguides invaluable. And the price can't be beat for that type of training! Here is the link:
    http://www.gooberguides.com/products/robohelp/robohelp-html-version-8-self-paced-training/
Also, the following website includes a vast amount of information on Robohelp:
    http://www.grainge.org/
I'm sure there are a number of other very useful websites, but these are the two that I (luckily!) stumbled upon in my research. I hope the creators of this information don't mind me posting the links here, if so, please let me know.
I hope this helps a bit!
    Good luck!

  • RoboHelp Server 6 and MySQL

Is it possible to use an ODBC compliant database with
RoboHelp Server 6, such as MySQL? This will impact our decision to
upgrade or move to a new solution.
    Thanks,
    Sean

    Hello Brian,
Adobe RoboHelp Server 6 should connect to ODBC sources just
fine. The minimum system requirements include Oracle 9i, Oracle
10g, or SQL Server 9.0. These minimum system requirements simply
mean that we have tested and fully support integrating Adobe
RoboHelp Server 6 in these environments.
In theory, all ODBC sources should respond the same way to
ODBC requests, so any ODBC compliant datasource should (again, in
theory) work. Adobe Technical Support will not be able to support
environments outside of the minimum system requirements.
If you would like to see MySQL added to the minimum system
requirements in the future, please submit a feature request via
    this web page:

  • Robohelp 8 JavaHelp and Oracle Help

It is said that JavaHelp Help and Oracle Help can be the output format of RoboHelp project in the help of RoboHelp. But I can not find a way to generate JavaHelp or Oracle Help. Could you tell me does RoboHelp 8 support it?
Generate and publish output from the command prompt. I use the command as below:
      "e:\test_RoboHelp\robotest\robotest.xpj -l WebHelp -o E:\test_RoboHelp\a"
"e:\test_RoboHelp\robotest\robotest.xpj" is a project which does exist. But Why the output folder is not "E:\test_RoboHelp\a" as I have set?
by the way, Does RoboHelp have a plan to support HTML Help 2.x?

    Hi there
Indeed RoboHelp *CAN* produce JavaHelp and Oracle Help as advertised. However, it isn't configured out of the box to do this. I consider it to be similar to advertising that a pickup truck (errr, sorry Peter, Craig and Colum - I mean LORRY) is able to tow a Boat or a Camper to a lake. Sure, you can tow these items, but there are a few requirements!
You must have a Boat or Camper to tow
You need to install the optional towing package
In order to produce these help output types you will need to separately install the Java Development Kit. Fellow Adobe Community Expert Peter Grainge has some information on his site at the link below.
Click here to visit Peter's site
That covers JavaHelp. I'm unsure about Oracle Help, but would expect it to be similar.
Are we to assume the code referring to E:\test... is your own code?
If so, I see an issue with it. E:\ likely refers to a network location. In my many years of supporting RoboHelp via the forums I can't begin to tell you how many folks have arrived reporting issue after issue after issue that was caused by working on projects while they are stored on network locations.
HTML Help 2 never took off for public use. Mostly Microsoft used it internally. As there is no real generic public outcry for it, I'd be shocked if RoboHelp were to suddenly begin offering it. If you would like to cast your vote for it to be added as an output option, visit the Wish Form.
    Hopefully this helps... Rick

  • Issues with RoboHelp HTML Help and IE7

I attempted to create a basic (one-topic) HTML Help file
using RoboHelp X5 (5.0.2 update), with the topic tied to the TOC,
index, and search navigation tools. I attempted to open the CHM on

I tried to open the CHM file on another PC running Windows

Apparently, there is something about IE7 (or Windows XP, but
