RoboHelp 6, XAML and RoboHelp Server 6

Has anybody used RoboHelp 6 or RoboHelp 6 Server to generate
.NET3 compatible XAML Help Files? Also, If I want to try a demo
copy, do I install RoboHelp 6, and then RoboHelp 6 Server? or does
RoboHelp6 Server have everything RoboHelp 6 has? Thanks!

Hi all
Hopefully Colum won't mind a teensy addition here. RoboHelp 6
all by its itty bitty self is quite capable of producing WebHelp
output that can also exist on a server. The key difference here is
the reporting ability and the ability to automatically index
content such as Word and PDF files.
Often folks misunderstand this. They desire to create output
that is placed on a server (like WebHelp or FlashHelp) and that's
as far as they want or need. But they end up purchasing RoboHelp
Server and it's wasted money. So unless you specifically desire the
features RoboHelp Server offers, you don't need it.
Cheers... Rick

  • Differences between Robohelp and Robohelp Server

I am in the process of evaluatinf Robohelp. I have found out
there are 2 versions: Robohelp and Rohohelp Server. can someone
list the differences in these products or direct me to a
link/document where I can find this information?
    Thanks in Advance
    Rodman Veney

    Hi, Rodman
You may find this article in the Adobe Developer Center
helpful as well. It refers to RoboHelp Server 6, but virtually all
information remains relevant for v7. As Rick says, "Pro" is simply
the same as WebHelp or FlashHelp, but the content is published to
the RoboHelp Server so that you can get the benefit of user
feedback reports and the other features described here:

  • Windows 7 and RoboHelp 7 or 8

I am using Windows 7 with RoboHelp 7 and it seems to work ok until I have to add something to my project which takes a very long time and half of which RoboHelp forces itself to close and not run properly.  Does anyone know if RoboHelp 8 would solve any of these occurances or not?  I have verified that all updates for RoboHelp 7 are installed.

Here's a summary of my successful experience with Win 7 and the Adobe family. I used Thankgiving holidays to give it a go.
This install was a Windows 7 Professional upgrade but I used the "clean install" option on a formerly XP Pro OS (32-bit). For this reason, I made sure to "deactivate" all my Adobe apps before the Win 7 install. I also did a full backup (using the free Macrium Reflector app to create an image).
I then installed Adobe TCS 2 (RoboHelp, FrameMaker, Captivate and Acrobat Pro Extended), CS 4 Master Collection (PhotoShop, Premiere Pro, Flash, Soundbooth, After Effects, InDesign, Illustrator - the whole 9 yards.) Re-activation went just fine. I then made sure to apply the RoboHelp 8.0.1 and 8.0.2 updates (FrameMaker and Captivate as well via Adobe Update Manager)
    http://www.adobe.com/support/robohelp/downloads.html
Next, I wanted to install both RoboHelp Server 8 and RoboSource Control 3.1. To prepare for that, I installed the free version of MS SQL Express 2008, The Java DK and JVM, Apache Tomcat web server. The only hiccup was that Tomcat required a copy/paste of msvcr71.dll to the windows\system32 folder. Once I did that, Tomcat started right up.
That went smoothly so then I installed RoboHelp Server 8 which rides atop the Tomcat Web Server. Joy on the first try (thanks to Adobe, this is a far cry from the old eHelp RoboEngine days).
It was then time to try RoboSource Control 3.1 (using SQL Express as the database). Checking project files in and out works great.
As my first RoboHelp test, I created five WebHelp Pro projects plus a Master Project and publish this merged system to the RoboHelp Server 8. It worked, first time.
The whole thing (including the Adobe apps) took about 6 hours because I needed to find a Windows 7 graphics driver for my 3 year old adapter.
Again, everything is stable and working fine. All apps are opening and performing much more quickly than Vista or XP. I especially like the quick reboot of Win 7 even though I have a LOT of server overhead to load on startup.
I have a RoboHelp class to teach tomorrow in Ft. Worth, Texas with my "old" Vista laptop. After that's done, I'll repeat this whole process on the laptop. Vista will be good riddance for sure!

  • Can't Publish from Robohelp HTML 7 to Robohelp server 8

Please help. I have looked everywhere for answers. Here is my problem.
    Environment
I have a windows XP machine with robohelp html 7 and the 7.0.3 patch installed. I am testing the trial version of robohelp server 8 for 30 days. The installation of the robohelp server 8 application when ok. I think. I am able to login as admin in the robohelp server web adminstrator application and also able to go the main page (http://mvrobohelp:8080/robohelp/). The congratulations! screen appears.
    Problem
When I published the webhelp pro project from the workstation, it does its thing and end with the message that said "successfully published to "Bankway Headquarters".  I go to the robohelp 8 server and login as admin and I do not see the project "Bankway Headquarters" in the projects screen under the general area. It looks like the robohelp server does not finish publishing the project.
    Client PC messages
Finished applying Template in 6 sec(s)
Finished compiling WebHelp Pro in 378 sec(s)
    Successfully published to "Bankway Headquarters".
Thanks for any help in advance

    Hi Jose,
We have been using RH7 client to publish to RS8 server for about 2 months now. We have a master project/subproject setup and we too have been unable to get the Web Administration tool to allow us to see our projects by using the "View Project" button. They are listed under projects, but do not display correctly. Also, we are unable to see our complete master project with all of the embedded subprojects using the URL that Adobe supplies (e.g., http://<server>:<port>/robohelp/server). The Adobe response to this was that there was something wrong with our publishing mechanism (whatever that means!).
However, the good news is that we can view our projects just fine by using this path instead: http://<server>:<port>/robohelp/robo/server/general/projects/<master project>/<master project start page.htm>
Now, we are not using any of the context or area stuff so this works. We were also told that in bypassing the default method, we would be unable to get the usage statistics (e.g., frequently asked questions, etc). However, we have not experienced this. We are able to collect the metrics and access the reports using the Web Administration tool.
I'm not sure if this will satisfy your requirements, but for us, that was the only way to get to our project to view the complete master/subproject setup. Let me know if you figure out a different solution. I'd be very interested in doing this the "right way" if we can get it to work.

  • Acrobat 9.0 shared review not working after FrameMaker 11 and RoboHelp 10 are installed

Acrobat professsional 9.0 shared review function was working fine when I was using FrameMaker 7.2, but after I install FrameMaker 11 and RoboHelp 10, nothing happens when I select "Send for Shared Review" or "Attach for Email Review", no error messages, no prompts, just nothing...btw, the system is Windows XP SP3.
Is it a compatibility issue? Does the same issue happen to you and how you fix this? Thanks for your help..
    Stephanie

We are getting this on certain machines and not others.  I can't seem to be able to find a rhyme or reason.  We are trying to initiate reviews on a shared internal network location.
A few questions for the forum:
Does Owner rights matter on the share that the review file is to be stored in?  Currently we have Modify rights for all participants and initiators.
Does it make a difference which updates are installed past 9.0?  Does it make a difference if Pro and Reader are installed?
Can someone confirm that the Acrobat.com is required to be installed on the machine?  I noticed on the latest installs of reader acrobat.com application is not installed.
I'm posting this now because I haven't seen a clear cut answer to:
Could not save the shared review-enabled PDF file

  • RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features

I looked at some online training that had a really nice glossary feature.  I'm trying to figure out if Robohelp is what I need to accomplish something like this since it claims to have such great glossary, Index, and TOC features.  However,  I can't find a demo developed in Robohelp showing what these features are capable of.  Does anyone know of any demonstrations that I could view to see if this is what I'm looking for before I purchase?

No, I actually don't have anything yet.  I considered downloading the trial version, but I didn't want to spend the time to learn the software if it didn't have what I needed.
I see from your site that it is what I'm looking, and thank you so much for sending me that link.  Now I know, buying RoboHelp and learning it won't be a waste of time and money.

Subject: RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features
    Hi, Melbert2000
It's not clear whether you already use RoboHelp or have installed the trial version as part of your evaluation. Assuming you have, each release of RoboHelp comes with sample projects to help explore features. For example, Adobe RoboHelp 8 comes with a project called Web Graphics.
One quick way to see the TOC/Index/Glossary in action would be on my site, called Clownfish School.
    http://www.showmethedemo.com/clownfish_school/
You will notice the Glossary is visible in two ways. First, as a Glossary button which shows in the Navigation pane. Second is in the form or expanding hotspots within topic text. You can see some examples if you go to the topic "News from Thailand and Greece" Click on the maroon color words "Anemonefish" and "Clownfish" and you will see how the Glossary hotspots show or hide as you click on them.
As part of your purchase evaluation, I would recommend you download the Adobe RoboHelp Reviewer's Guide here to get a better idea of the various features:
    https://acrobat.com/#d=5bE00menRN24n8TzSel0Iw
And the Web Graphics Sample project can be downloaded here:

    Hope this helps.

  • Known backwards compatibility issues between Robohelp 9 and Robohelp 8?

    Hi Group,
In addition to avoiding the tasks in the Review menu, does anyone know of any other backwards compatibility issues encountered while opening and using files generated in RoboHelp 9 from within Robohelp 8? Thanks, gail

    Welcome to the forum.
Simply the fact that RoboHelp 8 will not open a project that has been run in RoboHelp 9. Sure you might well open a project by deleting the CPD and perhaps the XPJ and using the HHP, however I would not recommend that except in an emergency.
What I am not clear on is how you link that to "avoiding the tasks in the Review menu." What has that got to do with the question?

  • RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10

As the title says, RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10. Any ideas for recovering or importing the x5 TOC and index?
Before this is suggested, auto-create is not an option.

    Hi there
Perhaps give this a try. From the Project Manager pod, right-click the Table of Contents area and choose "New Table of Contents". Give it a name and enable the "Copy existing Table of Contents" check box. Then click the Ellipsis icon on the far right side. See if you have a .HHC file in the folder. Odds are, you will. That will be the existing (missing) TOC.
Hopefully that will work. If so, repeat the process for the index.
I think when upgrading the project something goes wrong with naming.

  • RoboHELP 4.0 and 7.0

Can RoboHELP 4.0 and/or 7.0 be used to add context-sensitive
Help (pop-up help that is accessed with a small questionmark)
to applications developed in Developer 2000 with Oracle 8.0? If
not, what Help authoring tool can be used for this purpose?
    Thank you.

Yes it can. I used it on a project where it was context
sensitive down to the form level..not the field level. It has
been awhile but if you have questions we can talk.

  • Looking for FrameMaker 8 and RoboHelp 7 licenses

    Hello All,
I am starting a Technical Writer training institute in Bangalore and want to purchase FrameMaker 8 and RoboHelp 7 licenses.
I approached Adobe for the same, but they replied that they do not sell theses license anymore. Instead they asked me to buy the latest suite.
So, please let me know if you or your friends are willing to sell FM8 and RH7 licenses? If yes, then please forward the details to [email protected]
    Regards,
    Ramesh

    Hi Michael,
FM 7.2 p128 is the last version and patch that worked. We have been delivered an SGML file (16Mb) and need to open it in FM. C:\Program Files\Adobe\FrameMaker7.2\Structure contains all the relevent EDD's, RW Rules etc. So when opening the SGML, I need to nominate a Dir to save the end *.fm file which is fine and then start the import. After about 40 minutes FM throws an error file and closes the entire application. This happens with FM 7.2 p144 and FM 8.0 but not FM 7.2 p128 and previous. Logged the job on the Adobe support site and was told that this is a memory issue. I have done exactly the same process on a brand new PC with nothing else loaded and nothing else running. This machine is a P4 3.0+ CPU, 4 GB RAM so there should be no memory issues unless there is a setting in FM itself. This is all I have for now, so any help will be great. Thanks in advance.

  • Do you know if it's possible to generate Word 2003 files from RoboHelp if we're using Office 2007 and RoboHelp 2007?

Do you know if it's possible to generate Word 2003 files from
RoboHelp if we're using Office 2007 and RoboHelp 2007? We are
thinking of upgrading, but have customers that would still require
Word 2003 formats because they won't have 2007 installed.
    Thanks!

    Hi NewtoRobohelp
Unfortunately I don't have Office 2007 in front of me to test
with. But I'm thinking that as long as Office 2007 still produces
the same formats as 2003, you could do it this way.
From RoboHelp 7 and using Office 2007, generate Printed
ouptut. Open said printed output in Office 2007 and perform a Save
As. Save the document as a RTF (Rich Text Format) document.
RTF is more universal. So I'm thinking this may be a possible
way around it. There is also the possibility that Word 2007 offers
up an ability when saving a file to save in an older format.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Framemaker 11 and Robohelp 10 licensed versions usedlinking the Frame files is greyed out

Framemaker 11 and Robohelp 10 licensed versions used. Options for linking the Frame files is greyed out. Also, updae book and file options are geryed out. Please assist.

Linking between Fm and Rh is only an option with the full TCS suite, not if you purchase the components separately.
It might be worth speaking to Adobe to see if you can get a deal on upgrading to the suite as you have already purchased two components.

  • RoboHelp Office 2000 and 9.1

Just found my copy of RoboHelp Office 2000 and 9.1 and would like to install them on my new computer and get back to using the program.
    Two questions:
    1. Which of the above versions is the newest?  I realize that they are both quite old but can't remember which is the latest.
    2. Can either version run on Windows 7?  I am using Windows Word 2003.
    Thanks for any input.
    Peg

    Hi Peg.
RH Office 2000 came out sometime in 1999 whilst I believe that RH 9.1 came up afterwards. However neither would support Office 2003 or Windows 7. If you weren't using any Word features maybe you could get one version installed and running but if you had any issues, you'd be on your own as far as Adobe Support is concerned. If you can afford it, I'd strongly recommend you buy the latest version RH8. It is miles better than either of the versions you currently have.

  • Upgrade from Robohelp 8.0 to Robohelp 9.0

Prior to upgrading to Robohelp 9.0, I backed up all my existing project files from Robohelp 8 to the production server and kept a copy on my local server under My Documents.
When accessing one of the 8.0 project files using Robohelp 9.0, a pop up box appeared asking if I wanted to upgrade and I selected yes.
After the upgrade occurred, the file opened in Robohelp; however, I noticed a few of my images were missing and a project folder displaying with no topics.   Very strange as to the files
were all there prior to the upgrade.  I went back into the project file under My Documents and all the data is showing but not Robohelp, why is this occurring?
Hope I have not confused anyone, your help is greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Wendy

Not wishing to step on Jeff's toes but first try simply renaming the folder with the missing images (in Project Manager).
If that does not work, then answer Jeff's questions.
Also add whether your version of RoboHelp had the 802 service release applied?
