RoboHelp 7 crashes

My RoboHelp HTML Project keeps crashing when I try to delete information or click on the Enter key.
I uninstalled and reinstalled.  I increased my virtual memory to 4.5-9.0 GB.  Below are my system properties:

Does this problem occur with all projects or just one? If you only have one project, create a new one just to test with a few topics or open on of the supplied samples.
I suspect other projects will be OK and if that is the case, then rename the CPD file in the problem project (via Windows Explorer) and then reopen it. RoboHelp will create a new file and all should be OK. Post back if not.
There is a full explanation in Opening Projects on my site.
BTW. How do you click the Enter key? I have to press mine.

  • RoboHelp crashes when I try to edit a responsive html 5 layout page

If I right click on one of the screen layout pages in the Screen Layouts section of the Project Set-up area RoboHelp crashes.  If I create a new one the editor opens, but RoboHelp crashes as soon as I try edit it. I can manually edit the slp files in a text editor but this isn't particularly easy!
I have RoboHelp 11.0.3.268.  I have tried creating an entirely new project and the same thing happens.  I am working locally on my desktop, publishing to a server.  I have not yet added any source control to the project.
Any suggestions would be very welcome.

This is a know regression issue in RoboHelp 11.0.3. The only workaround for now is to open the SLP files with notepad or another editor.
You can report this issue at: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform&product=38 Though Adobe is already aware of this issue, this form gives them an estimate of how many people are using this feature. And the more people report it, the more likely it is to be fixed quickly.

  • Robohelp crashes when generating HTML output; under one "condition"

My project has several conditional build tags, and I use just two of them.
I have switched between conditions a million times when I generate output, but now RoboHelp crashes when I use "Condition B".
It is still successful on Condition A.
    The Output View says:
    Starting compilation ....
    HTMLHELP preporcessor 8.0.0.203
    Compiling
    c:\HelpForGeomagicApps\!SSL!\Microsoft_HTML_Help\!chm_tmp_folder_4\ProjectName_EN.chm
    Preparing to create HTMLHELP...
    Clearing output folder...
    Preparing files for HTML Help...
    Copying files...
    Updateing files....
    AND THEN SHE CRASHES.
    Any advice?

What I meant by "creating a new SSL" was right clicking in the Single Source Layouts pod and selecting New Layout. From the resulting dialog, select the required output type and set its properties the same as the other one. However the Dr.Watson reference may give us more of a clue as to the problem. • Robohelp crashes when I open properties of FM link

RoboHelp crashes as soon as I rightclick a Framemaker link and select Properties. I have already tried deleting the cpd file but this did not help. Other projects are not affected. I work with TCS3.
Is this a known problem, any solutions/proposals?

It seems like the particular FrameMaker document link has somehow got corrupted in RoboHelp project. Please try re-linking the particular FrameMaker book/document by deleting the link and linking it again to RoboHelp project.
Please note that this will delete any converted RoboHelp content for the particular FM document and it will need to be re-generated.

  • RoboHelp Crashes when I Copy & Paste Text then Amend the Pasted Text

I am copying text from one RoboHelp topic then pasting it into another RoboHelp topic (within the same project). If I then try to make a change to the pasted text RoboHelp crashes. This happens every single time so at least it is consistant!
    Any suggestions/solutions?

Bit weird but it seems to be playing ball now!
I copy/pasted text in the HTML editor and it works fine. Went back to the Wisiwig editor and tried it again, and it didn't crash.
Really weird, I must have consistently crashed the sytem over 20 times this morning, so no idea why it chooses to work now!
Thanks anyway, if it happens again I will reinstall RoboHelp and see if that is a long term cure.
    Cheers,
    Nicola

  • RoboHelp crashes

I can open a project, save, and compile it OK, but if I try
to view a topic, RoboHelp crashes. I have done the process of
deleting the .cpd and .xpj files, and then editing the .hhp file
several times. This all goes fine, but as soon as I try to view a
topic in the WYSIWYG tab or the TrueCode tab, RoboHelp crashes. I
have RoboHelp X5. I have other projects that work OK.
I have changed the capitalization of some of the folders or
file names so that the output would work in a JavaHelp system.
Also, I tried to replace an exit.png image file with an updated
exit.png file, and I think caused some problems. However, I was
able to get everything to work in a couple other similar projects.
I appreciate any help anyone can provide. Thanks.

I had this problem as well sometime after I upgraded to 7.0.3; crashes after about 8-10 minutes after I open a project; for no apparent reason.  Wasn't even typing or generating anything; just opened the project.
Tried to fix by remove and reinstall from the CD back to 7.0 (make sure you deactivate the serial number before you uninstall) and it still was crashing so thought it might be a Windows Patch.
Seemed to have fixed the problem when I installed without any of RoboHelp Source control clients or server.   no more crashing..  Maybe an adobe tech can respond to this and provide any information on background operations that happen about 8-10 minutes into opening a project like auto-saving something to the Robohelp Source Control product.
One recommendation; use a real source control product like VSS/TFS or Subversion if you are concerned about versioning.

  • ERROR- Robohelp crashing  - HELP!

Using TCS2 on Window 7, 64 bit. I am experiencing a new and very distrubing problem. When I update by RH main topic (with all my subtopics included) RH freezes, and then crashes. Consistently.
    I am getting the error:
An error occurred while trying to read  data from  <D:\drivelocation\RHFrameDocs.apj> <3>
Does anyone know what this means? How to fix it?
This has become a very urgent issue for me, as I can no longer update my projects in RH!
    Thank you in advance,
    Adriana

    Hi there
Is your D drive local to the computer? As in a hard drive physically inside the PC or connected via USB. Or is D some network location?
If it's a network location it likely means that there was a network interruption of some sort and the data can no longer be found.
    Cheers... Rick

  • RoboHelp crashes when using TFS

Has anyone used RoboHelp with Team Foundation Server for version control?  I noticed a few questions about that on this forum but no answers. I had attempted to use RoboHelp 7 with TFS but RoboHelp keeps crashing. Is this problem corrected in RoboHelp 8, is anyone using RoboHelp 8 with TFS as version control.

I'm afraid there's a delay in making attached files downloadable (RH forum seems to monitor/censor these attachments for safety purposes), so your file will be labeled QUEUED until it has been released.
Note that the following files are machine- and output-specific source files that should not be added to source control:
    MyProject.cpd
    MyProject.hhp
    MyProject.ldb
    MyProject.pss
Try removing them from source control, and see if that helps.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • RoboHelp crashes when editing the glossary

When creating a glossary, RoboHelp 8 (HTML) crashes frequently every 2-3 entries producing a Windows error message. This is extremely annoying because even if I hit the "Save all" Butten after each entry, the glossary is usually empty when I restart the project.
I am working locally, of course, under WinXP and its a small project. I have not created a large glossary in the last few years but recall no problems working with older RH versions. Is this a known problem, do you have any recommendations?

Short of renaming/deleting the .cpd file and reopening the project (which tends to alleviate all manner of problems), I think I'd declare victory and withdraw. That is, I'd close the project, open the MyProject.glo file in Notepad, and make the necessary entries per the required syntax.
Surprising how gratifying it is to cease smashing your head against a concrete wall!
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • Robohelp crashes when trying to save a template

Hi,    Whenever I try to save a template or a topic based on the template in Robohelp, it crashes.. Any idea? Thanks.

Is this limited to using one template? if so, what happens when you import that template into another project and use it there? If it still causes issues, it sounds like it has become corrupted and will need recreating. Out of interest, what is inside it. It would also be useful if you told us the RoboHelp version you are using.

  • Robohelp crashes when inserting images

    Can anyone help.
When I'm inserting images into Robohelp X5 it keeps crashing
and I have to completely restart my PC.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
    Thanks

    Hi Jane and welcome,
How 'exactly' are you inserting images?
Are you working with your project locally?
What error message do you get before your PC crashes?
    thanks

  • RoboHelp Crashing

Robohelp 8 is crashing everytime I save or check in topics, making work very difficult. I checked for updates, and I have the most updated version. Any ideas on fixes? I recently had additional RAM installed to speed up the output, which is helpful, but I've noticed it started happening after the RAM was installed.

The supplied sample projects should not crash so try those.
You will find the samples at
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 8\RoboHTML\Samples\en_US
    or
    C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Technical Communication Suite 2\Adobe RoboHelp 8\RoboHTML\Samples\en_US
If they crash then it does look like an environment problem. Get IT to check the machine. If necessary, try an uninstall and reinstall.
If they don't crash, then you need to look at your project / source control setup.

  • Robohelp Crashes After Launching Other Programs, Especially Quickbooks

We are experienced multiple Robohelp issues on multiple machines.  I appreciate this forums patience as we work through these issues.  Support has been useless.  Anyway, when we have a project open in Robohelp 9 and we launch other programs it will normally lock up Robohelp.  This doesn't happen every time, but at least 50% approx.  We've noticed this is particulary true with running Quickbooks after opening Robohelp 9.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Also, are there any known issues with Windows 7 64bit and Robohelp? One of our PCs is running Windows 7 now but all the others are still xp 32 bit.

    In addition to Jeff's comments...
Are you copying down by using copy and paste? If so zip on the server and copy the zip file.
In your first post in this thread you say "Also, are there any known issues with Windows 7 64bit and Robohelp?" Please see the Sticky Topic "Before You Post" where it is requested that all threads start with the version of RoboHelp used. Both 8 (patched) and 9 should work fine but there may be problems with earlier versions.

  • Robohelp Crashes when I cut and past

Does anyone have a solution to this problem which has cropped
up over the past couple of days?
I am using RH6. When I try to cut and paste text, or copy -
all standard word-style functions, RH crashes. I have trued the
usual tricks to repar my corrup[ed database, but the problem will
not go away. I recently tried to import a word document, which I
suspect has cause the problem. Now, how do I fix this?

I'm not sure exactly what you're trying to copy and paste.
I've found that when I try to copy and paste links that
appear in a list in the WYSIWYG editor, RH crashes. If I do the
copy and paste in the TrueCode editor, it works just fine. If your
topics are in a list, make sure you add the necessary HTML (
    <ul> <li> </li> </ul> ).
If you're trying to copy and paste an entire topic, this
    won't work for you.

  • RoboHelp HTML v5 Crash when I try to open topic

I did a minor edit on a small topic in an existing project.
Robohelp crashed before I could save. I ended the task and reloaded
the project into HR, and received this msg:
The reference to the file, "C:\help projects\UW\IDI UW\Chap
    15\file:\C:\help projects\UW man.css" from the file ""C:\help
    projects\UW\IDI UW\Chap 15\syndrome.htm" contains illegal
characters and will not be shown in the project manager.
RH crashed again. I loaded the referenced file in Internet
Explorer, found the funky path displayed on the error msg, modied
it, and saved the file. When I tried to open the project in RH and
open the topic, I didn't receive the error message again, but RH
did crash. Ended the task w/Windows Task Manager, loaded RH and
opened the project. I then deleted the offending topic and
reimported it from an MS Word file. No error msg., but RH crashed
    again.
I was able to edit another topic, save, and regenerate.
However, now RH crashes no matter which topic I try to edit. The
last time I worked on this project was 11/07, and everything went
    smoothly then.
It's late Sunday evening. I'm stumped. Great issue for a
    Monday morning. Any ideas?

I decided to try the oldest trick in the book and reboot the
computer. That resolved the problem! Duh!
However, I need to edit the index on the project, and RH
crashes when I try to open the index designer. I haven't tried to
reboot. I am opening another topic on this one. I found many issues
with RH crashes, and maybe that will help someone else, when we
    have a resolution.

  • RoboHELP 6 Crashes When Importing Word 2003 File

Discovered this today by accident (after modifying a Word
2003 file that I was previously able to import to "test" Help files
using both RH HTML and RH for Word (both V6) and thought I'd report
it because it appears to be a bug:
If you select the following option in the Word file that you
are importing, RoboHelp will crash during the import:
Tools, Options, General tab, Web Options, Files tab,
Organize supporting files in a folder
When you do the Import Word file action from RoboHelp, it
starts the import then issues a Microsoft C++ Debug Library message
    box that says:
    Debug Error!
    Program: C:\Program Files\Adobe\RoboHelp
    6.0\RoboHTML\RoboHTML.exe
    abnormal program termination
(Press Retry to debug the application)
    Abort Retry Ignore
Doesn't matter what you select. RoboHELP crashes and the Word
    file is not imported.
Wanted to report this here in case someone else runs into
this. It cost me a lot of time today.
    KC

    Hi Peter
Thank you for the suggestion. I created a new project, new
folders, imported the files a few at a time & compiled it each
time (with one build tag in it) and found that only two files made
it crash. On the one file, I removed the tables (which had no
merged cells) from the project and it worked. The other file was
removed completly and I will re-do that page.
I then opened my current project (with all links &
pictures etc TOC working) and imported the changed file and removed
the other file and wala....I have a useable project.
The project was on our own software so unfortunately I would
not be able to share it.
Being a relativley new (1.5 yrs) user, I find running into
bugs are brutal....Thanks for all your help.
