RoboHelp 7 Server Web Host

My tech writing department is proposing distributing webhelp
on a remote server instead of locally on the client's server. We
can't host the RoboHelp server in-house due to a lack of servers,
so we are wondering if we can publish to a 3rd party web host
vendor. Has anyone done this? Do we need to use a windows based
server? Any other host requirements I should be aware of?

I haven't done so with a full blown help project or a WebHelp
Pro output, so read this with that in mind.
On my site there are a number of webhelp outputs as demos.
One can be found at
http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/search_highlighting/highlighting.htm
The host server is Unix based.
WebHelp Pro RH Server to be installed on the server so the
host company would have to work with you on that and the server
would have to meet its requirements.
I cannot comment on how fast it would all work as that would
depend on the size of the project and the server. Maybe the host
company would allow you to try a WebHelp (not Pro) output first?

  • Mac OS X Server - Web Hosting & Media Server

    Hi All - Need advice. I have MacPro and have purchased MacPro Server.
    Here is what I plan to do with MacPro Server:
    1. Host couple of my personal websites, blogs etc.
    2. Use it as a iTunes Media Server so that I can access my iTunes content through VPN / Internet remotely.
    I want to use my MacPro largely for Web development work (basically as a DEV environment) whereas MacPro Server will be my Production environment. I have a couple of questions and will be grateful for your advice:
    1. Is it a good practice to have iTunes Media Server on Mac OS X Server?
    2. Presently, I have all my iTunes library stored on 2 x 2TB hard drives within MacPro. I would really like to move these hard drives to my MacPro Server and import the content to iTunes there. Can I do it? Will I lose the ratings and other details?
    3. Will I be able to access iTunes on Mac OS X Server via Internet / VPN remotely?
    Thanks in advance!!

    By the way they are using Internet Explorer 7 when opening these documents.

  • 10.6.2 Leopard Server Web Hosting Assistance

    I recently obtained a Mac Mini Server running 10.6.2. Likewise I am a newbee Snow Leopard Server user.
    I have been able to set up the server to the point of having the web page appear on 192.168.0.5 (local static server address). I have read a lot of literature, but still can not point the routers response to the qualified IP address to the the server (i.e. When I browse the IP address on the web browser if comes up blank). The LAN clients seem to binding and sharing as expected. Mail seems to be connected. I have configured the router to pass all port activity on to the server and I have set up the server's firewall to allow for certain service access.
    I am sure that this is a simple oversight, which makes it that more frustrating.

  • RoboHelp Server 7 Help System Errors

    Whenever I publish my RH 7 Help project to server, I check
    the RoboHelp Server Web Administrator for errors. I always get Help
    System Error "Requested file cannot be found" for a file called
    bsscfp.txt. To my knowledge, this is a control file generated
    during the publishing process. If this is the case why is an error
    being generated for a file I have no control over? Also, I find the
    Troubleshooting section of RoboHelp Server Web Administrator to be
    rather useless in correcting issues. Is there any reference
    documentation that explains some of the cryptic error messages that
    appear in the Server Web Administrator screen?

    Hi, ouque and welcome to the forum.
    Just to clarify your setup. When you say "Project pane" are
    you referring to the Configuration Manager on the server itself.
    Or, are you referring to something you are seeing from the RoboHelp
    authoring client app's Server Administration pane?
    If you have access to the actual server desktop and view the
    Configuration Manager, sometimes on a new installation, you can do
    a "refresh" and the project will show up.
    A few more questions:
    Have you tried accessing the website and does the project
    come up in the web browser?
    On what kind of web server did you install RHS7? Windows
    2003, etc.?
    Is Microsoft Indexing Services turned on?
    Apparently you were able to successfully publish your project
    to the server so there is "communication" between your desktop and
    the server I gather.
    A few more details and we'll try to help.
    Thanx,
    john

  • Can't Publish from Robohelp HTML 7 to Robohelp server 8

    Please help. I have looked everywhere for answers. Here is my problem.
    Environment
    I have a windows XP machine with robohelp html 7 and the 7.0.3 patch installed. I am testing the trial version of robohelp server 8 for 30 days. The installation of the robohelp server 8 application when ok. I think. I am able to login as admin in the robohelp server web adminstrator application and also able to go the main page (http://mvrobohelp:8080/robohelp/). The congratulations! screen appears.
    Problem
    When I published the webhelp pro project from the workstation, it does its thing and end with the message that said "successfully published to "Bankway Headquarters".  I go to the robohelp 8 server and login as admin and I do not see the project "Bankway Headquarters" in the projects screen under the general area. It looks like the robohelp server does not finish publishing the project.
    Client PC messages
    Finished applying Template in 6 sec(s)
    Finished compiling WebHelp Pro in 378 sec(s)
    Successfully published to "Bankway Headquarters".
    Thanks for any help in advance

    Hi Jose,
    We have been using RH7 client to publish to RS8 server for about 2 months now. We have a master project/subproject setup and we too have been unable to get the Web Administration tool to allow us to see our projects by using the "View Project" button. They are listed under projects, but do not display correctly. Also, we are unable to see our complete master project with all of the embedded subprojects using the URL that Adobe supplies (e.g., http://<server>:<port>/robohelp/server). The Adobe response to this was that there was something wrong with our publishing mechanism (whatever that means!).
    However, the good news is that we can view our projects just fine by using this path instead: http://<server>:<port>/robohelp/robo/server/general/projects/<master project>/<master project start page.htm>
    Now, we are not using any of the context or area stuff so this works. We were also told that in bypassing the default method, we would be unable to get the usage statistics (e.g., frequently asked questions, etc). However, we have not experienced this. We are able to collect the metrics and access the reports using the Web Administration tool.
    I'm not sure if this will satisfy your requirements, but for us, that was the only way to get to our project to view the complete master/subproject setup. Let me know if you figure out a different solution. I'd be very interested in doing this the "right way" if we can get it to work.

  • RH 8 and RoboHelp Server 8

    Hello Everyone,
    I need some guidance on how to publish WebHelp Pro to RoboHelp Server 8.  We received an error message:  "Warning: Failed to Publish to "RoboHelp Server". reason:  Cannot connect to server:  XXXXXX".
    We're able to access the RoboHelp Server Web Administrator so we're not sure what we need to do correctly to publish our WebHelp Pro to RoboHelp Server 8.  Any help is greatly appreciated.  Thank you!

    I notice that you do not appear to have any area specified in the New Destination dialog. If you click the Refresh button to the right of the Help Area dropdown and then select the area you wish to publish to. Let us know how you get on.

  • Re: RoboHelp Server 8

    hi vivek / adobe engineer,
    please help : )
    I am trying to get robohelp server 8 to work in a test environment to evaluate it. I have gotten it up and running and have integrated the tomcat with IIS 7 on server 2008. My problem now is I would like to get robohelp to authenticate with LDAP. I find the documentation on doing this to be confusing and vauge. (even our resident AD expert is stumped)
    http://help.adobe.com/en_US/RoboHelp/8.0/RoboHelpServer/WS9DE2BAEA-1C51-4a90-8252-039D7502 30C0.html
    If anyone is firmiliar with editing the robohelp_server.properties file to achieve ldap authentication, thier expertise would be greatly appreciated
    im basically looking for someone to explain what this file is looking for, I can get it to hit the server but i always get a 525 error.
    This is what im working off of:
    Enable user authentication
    The Web Administrator interface enables you to segregate the Help content published on the server into protected and public areas. Only authenticated users can view the content published in protected areas, but no authentication is required to view content published in public areas.
    Note: You do require authentication to publish content to public or protected areas.
    By default, RoboHelp Server creates a public area, general. All the RoboHelp HTML 7 projects are published to the general area only.
    Important: You cannot make this area protected and it cannot be deleted.
    To make an area protected, you can select the Protected area option in the Users page of the Web Admin interface. You can define several sets of privilege groups and assign different rights to different users. These rights include view only, publish, admin rights, and viewing reports. You can manage the groups and their privileges from RoboHelp Server Web Admin pages. RoboHelp Server 8 provides user authentication through both database and LDAP.
    Authenticate LDAP users
    You can use the <context-name>_server.properties file to authenticate an LDAP user or an administrator. Do the following:
    Comment the authtype = db property, specify your LDAP username in the DefaultAdminUid property, and do not specify your LDAP password in the DefAdminPwd property.
    Uncomment and specify your organization LDAP details:authtype = ldap
    ldapURL = ldap://ldapserver:389
    usersearchbase = ou=people,o=org
    rolesearchbase = ou=groups,o=org
    useridkey = uid
    rolename = cn
    rolesearch = uniqueMember
    Restart the Tomcat service to log in as an LDAP user.

    here is what i think your looking for... D:\tomcat\logs\localhost.2009-05-27.log

    I cant seem to gather anything from this...
    and I still have the question about whether the DefAdminUid should = the cn or the userPrincipalName?
    Thank you!
    We are in a wierd situation because adobe asked us to evaluate the software before we purchase but wont help us with this because we havent purchased.

  • How do I setup a php testing server that connects to my web host?

    My web host (webhostingpad.com) has php on it. I need to setup a testing server that connects to this so I can test my site locally.
    My questions are:
    1. Do I set this up as a local network connection or an sftp (same as my remote)?
    2. what information do I put in to make this work?

    1024MB is enough to have 2 instances but You have to know what are going to be the requirements levels of those instances in order to check if your memory is enough.
    The memory is a theme that relate Oracle SGA with RAM in the machine.
    To have a second database server you have to make another installation in a different Oracle Home.
    It is not the same to have 2 instances than 2 Oracle database servers.
    Do you know what is the difference ?

    But, only a blank page is ever displayed, nothing ever gets loaded, the application never starts.
    Specifically, I am questioning this line of code in the “flexdc08.htm” file –
    <APPLET CODE="llp3.class" ARCHIVE="llp3.jar,skinw.jar" width=664 height=453 MAYSCRIPT>
    The files “llp3.class” and “skinw.jar” do not exist. “llp3.jar” does exist.
    Here is a complete listing of the code in “flexdc08.htm” –
    <HTML><HEAD><TITLE></TITLE></HEAD>
    <BODY BGCOLOR='#FFFFFF' leftmargin=0 topmargin=0 rightmargin=0>
    <DIV ID='TDemoID' STYLE='position:absolute; left:10; top:10; visibility:visible'>
    <APPLET CODE="llp3.class" ARCHIVE="llp3.jar,skinw.jar" width=664 height=453 MAYSCRIPT>
    <PARAM NAME="ProjectFile" VALUE="flexdc08.ctd" />
    <PARAM NAME="LB" VALUE="0xFFFFFF" />
    <PARAM NAME="TC" VALUE="0x000000" />
    <PARAM NAME="SynchLoad" VALUE="1" />
    <PARAM NAME="FromSkin" VALUE="1" />
    <PARAM NAME="LoadingMsg" VALUE="Loading Demo..." />
    <PARAM NAME="ExpiredMsg" VALUE="Time limit expired." />
    <PARAM NAME="CorruptedMsg" VALUE="Demo File is corrupted." />
    <PARAM NAME="LoopMsg" VALUE="Loop" />
    <PARAM NAME="ProjectName" VALUE="Project Name" />
    <PARAM NAME="ProjectVer" VALUE="Project Version" />
    <PARAM NAME="Author" VALUE="Author" />
    <PARAM NAME="AURL" VALUE="Author's URL" />
    <PARAM NAME="AEMail" VALUE="Author's E-Mail" />
    <PARAM NAME="StopMsg" VALUE="STOP! The HTML page has been modified." />
    <PARAM NAME="IsLoop" VALUE="0" />
    </APPLET>
    </DIV>
    </BODY></HTML>
    And, here is a complete listing of all of the files on the web host server –
    autorun.inf
    autostart.exe
    autostart.ini
    flexdc08.ctd
    flexdc08.htm
    flexdc08_1.au
    flexdc08_10.au
    flexdc08_11.au
    flexdc08_12.au
    flexdc08_13.au
    flexdc08_14.au
    flexdc08_15.au
    flexdc08_16.au
    flexdc08_17.au
    flexdc08_18.au
    flexdc08_19.au
    flexdc08_2.au
    flexdc08_3.au
    flexdc08_4.au
    flexdc08_5.au
    flexdc08_6.au
    flexdc08_7.au
    flexdc08_8.au
    flexdc08_9.au
    llp3.jar
    playbutton.gif
    The applet starts and plays fine when previewing from within Dreamweaver. It's just when it is published o the web host server and tried to access from there in a browser that it will not start.
    Is there a good way to debug the applet startup?
    These files were provided to us from a vendor on a CD, which plays when inserted into the PC drive.
    Thanks,
    Mark

    Are you sure you are uploading the pages to the correct location?
    Could you post a screen capture of your expanded files window, showing the remote server and local file structures?
    I'm guessing they're not identical and that you may be uploading to a redundant root folder.

  • Best practice to configure a web server which hosting more than 1000+ Websites.

    We are deploying a new server for our shared clients. We have a new branded server with good config. Server is hosting IIS,MySQL,Mailserver is this ok. Or should i keep mailserver on different server. Also should i change the installation path of iis and
    other application or installing apps on C drive & keeping all websites and databases on D drive is good for server.

    "Server is hosting IIS,MySQL,Mailserver is this ok."
    Impossible to tell.  You have not given us any indication of the configuration of the server nor the expected workload.  Yes, you say 1000+ web sites, but if each web site is looked at once a day, that's a lot different than if each web site
    is access 10,000 times a day.  So we can't tell if it makes sense to install different roles on different physical servers, though that is often considered a best practice.  Similarly, it is generally a good idea to install applications/data to drives
    other than the C: drive, but without a lot more information (too much for a technical forum), it is pretty difficult to say anything specific.
    If you do not feel comfortable making the decisions yourself, you would be better served by hiring a consultant to evaluate your proposed configuration and perform some benchmarking based on you expected workloads and traffic patterns.

  • Configure DNS on Snow Leopard Server for Web Hosting

    Hi Everyone,
    I put together an article on my blog about Snow Leopard DNS setup for web hosting. http://www.mkahn.com/?p=279
    I'll be revising it over the next few weeks to make it more informative based around feedback. Let me know if you have any questions or trouble setting up DNS on Snow Leopard Server for web hosting.

    Thanks for your replies. I realize I'm not making clear the way this network is configured . Also, the only services running on the Snow Leopard server are (at this time):
    dhcpd - in the 10.136.31.x range;
    dns - same as before;
    planned to add are:
    Open Directory (for network logins)
    Software update;
    Web (only on the 10.136.31.x Ethernet);
    mySQL (localhost only - for moodle);
    NAT is not set up on the Snow Leopard server itself. We have an outside router, a Cisco 2811. This router provides routing for both the public IP range, and the NAT range is configured in this router. The forwarding dns is located in LR and Fayetteville. So what I need is dns on Snow Leopard to forward outside queries to the state DNS servers, and resolve the local NAT IP only for Open Directory and a set of Snow Leopard clients.
    Is this going to be possible?

  • Changed web hosting companies/mail server

    I just changed web hosting companies and want to know if I change the "incoming" and "outgoing" server to the new server addresses will I lose the emails that I have for this account? Said another way, I'm going to open mail preferences, select the mail account I need to change and type in new mail server addresses?
    Sorry if this has been answered before but I couldn't find an answer in a search.

    Hi there, and welcome to the Discussions.
    Changing the outgoing (SMTP) server should not make you loose emails, since the SMTP server is, by definition, only used to send emails. The emails you have already sent and want to keep are stored in a folder that is completely independent from your choice of SMTP server.
    When it comes to changing the incoming server, that's a different business. The consequences of such a change depend on the type of the server. Is it POP? IMAP?... If it is POP, I would assume that you would not loose anything, because POP works in such a way that you download all your emails from the POP server, the emails are then deleted from the server (at least, this is the default setting), and then the reference copies of your emails are the ones on your computer, which should therefore not be touched by a change in the POP server.
    If the incoming server is an IMAP server, then I don't know what will happen, but there is a risk that you could loose your emails. This is because, with IMAP, the reference copies of your emails are the ones on the server, with which your computer automatically synchronizes.
    In any case, before doing anything, BACKUP YOUR EMAILS, and make sure your know how to restore these backups in case something goes wrong.
    Then, I suggest you wait for someone more knowledgeable than myself to better answer your question.
    Hope this helps

  • OS X Server take the place of QuickMail and web host email?

    Hi All,
    I have been doing quite a bit of searching in the forums and with google.
    Here is what our situation currently is:
    Cable modem with dynamic IP address. Web hosting account with JaguarPC.com for our Internet email. Clients are all running with Leopard Mail app on either iMacs or MacBooks. We are using Mail app for the Internet messages (sending and receiving). That part works fine.
    G5 tower running OS X Server 10.3 for all of our file serving needs.
    We are using the latest/last version of QuickMail (not very recent!) for all LAN/Intranet messaging. QuickMail used to run fine in the OS 8 & 9 days, but each update of OS X causes it to be more unstable and unreliable.
    What our goal is would be this:
    Same Internet connection (cable modem + dynamic IP). Same web host. BUT, we would like to have our OS X Server (10.3) take the place of QuickMail AND use the Mail app for both the Internet messaging and all of the LAN/Intranet messaging.
    Is this possible? If so, if you would be so kind, could you throw some hints, tips and or links our way to help set this up.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Troy

    Out of the box, no, you can't do this.
    The internal mail is easy - you can do whatever you like on your own network. The issue is in running external mail.
    There are all kinds of issues in running external mail on a dynamic IP address, mostly as a result of spam (many ISPs, including all the big guys will not accept mail from dynamic IP addresses because it's likely spam).
    That's not to say you can't run a mail server per se, but if half your mail doesn't get to the recipient (and you can't predict which ones will), it's hardly viable.
    You do have options, though. First you could configure your mail server to relay all outgoing mail through your ISP. Since you're on their network they are obliged to accept mail from you and they'll forward it to the appropriate domain via one of their mail servers. That takes care of outgoing mail.
    Incoming mail is a whole different issue. On a dynamic IP address there's no way to tell other domains where your mail server is. The typical solution for this is to have some other mail server (on a static address) accept your mail and hold it for your mail server that periodically checks in and retrieves the mail via ETRN.
    Ironically, QuickMail does this very well (it really was one of its strengths). Postfix (the mail server included in Mac OS X Server) can do this, but it's not supported via Server Admin (the GUI used to configure the server), so you'll have to get under the hood and configure it - as well as find an upstream mail server that supports ETRN.
    For postfix, check the Postfix ETRN guide. For the mail server, ask your ISP if they support ETRN (you'll likely need to get to at least second-level support since the first-level folks probably can't even spell it ).

  • How to use Mac Mini as web hosting server?

    Hi,
    I would like to use my mac mini as a web hosting server.
    I have a few domains that I want to host on my mac mini.
    How do I configure/setup the mac mini?
    Best,
    Leo

    yes, a little. it's nice for people not used to setting up from source or doing tons of stuff in the command line. it installs like any other mac application & puts a nice control pane in system preferences. plus, you can set up for updates to keep everything current with patches.
    I'm not sure how to handle the multiple domains, but whatever you find on apache that covers this should also or mostly apply to you too.
