RoboHelp 8 Glossary Search?

Ok, I this may be wishful thinking, BUT is there a way to enter a term name using RH Glossary? The client wants the FlashHelp Pro layout.
We have over 900 terms and it would be nice to be able to type the word or acronym next to the heading called Term: and have it go right to the term versus scrolling through to find what you are looking for.  Oh, and before you ask, no the client does not want to use a "Glossary Topic". They really like the look and feel of the glossary pane, just want it searchable or at least jump to the letter or something.
Regards,
CJ

I'm afraid not CJ. You may want to submit a feature request for this. You can do so here.

  • Glossary search

    Hi all,
    i have a Jsp page. It has Glossary A B C D E F G .................... X Y Z. These are all hyperlink. so user clicks A and same page opens up glossary for A at the bottom of the page. This is happening using Javascript. so no form submission on clicking A. It is all client side javascript.
    Now, we want to add more functionality. We want to give a search box on this page. and let user type for example "payment" in textfield and click GO button. and then all the search results A ........... Z having keyword payment showsup as search links at the bottom for user to click.
    How can i implement such search functionality ?
    Any pointers appreciated.
    thanks
    pp

    ok.
    My page is Jsp page
    I dont mind using Java code in Jsp page (scriplets) which would result into glossary search.
    or better will have a Java class that do the search on entire glossary and then call that class instance in Jsp with the results.
    so I really do NOT want to rely on javascript for the search functionality and hope java would come handy.
    hope that explains my req :-)

  • Robohelp 8 - Not searching PDF

    Hello,
    I know this has been discussed in multiple threads as I have been through every single one.
    Issue:
    Robohelp is not searching content (text) in PDF files.
    I am not a computer logged into a network..  I'm trying to figure out what the problem is.
    Running Robohelp 8.02
    Project is WebHelp "not Pro"
    Output is to local C:\ drive
    Here is a sample PDF that i'm trying to make searchable (I have many more)
    Download Link:
    http://www.mediafire.com/?3jj9r57yuzj3r1s
    I've created a new project and tried just putting that particular PDF file as a baggage and linking and it still wouldn't find information on the PDF.
    I'm starting to think it has to do something with Robohelp being installed on administrator account and me being on a different account, is not providing the correct search results.  The compile goes so fast that it seems its not even attempting to create search terms.
    Any suggestions would be awesome.  If someone wants to test the PDF in the above link on their own and see what results they get, that would probably tell me where the issues is.
    Thanks,
    Nathan

    your settings are equivalent to what I have, and PDF search works for me. Go figure. Maybe try reinstalling RH or getting some additional rights to your PC.
    BTW, did you look at the SALIdxSvc12.xml file in the Program Files (x86) > Adobe > AdobeRobohelp 8 > RoboHTML directory? (referenced in a related post).
    Mine looks like this. I think the circled line is what allows PDFs to be indexed for search:
    (BTW, the only issues I've had with PDF search is when we generate the help in batch from the command line...for some reason, we can't do PDF search when we use that process.)
    Good luck with it!

  • RoboHelp HTML 8 Search problem

    I have a single (non-merged) RoboHelp 8 HTML project in which I cannot seem to get Search working correctly.
    I expected to see a box into which I can type a search term and a blank pane below the Contents/Index/Search/Glossary bar where search results would appear.  Instead, I get the following when I generate WebHelp:
    This problem appears in IE 6, IE 7, Firefox 3.0, and Firefox 3.5, all of which our customer base uses.  I'm using RoboHelp 8 on a Windows PC with XP Pro 2002, SP3.
    In the Project Settings/General dialog, I have the default settings for the Stop List and the Always Ignore List selected.  For "Add new keywords to" I have "Index File (HHK)" selected, and "Binary Index" is selected.
    When generating WebHelp, I have the following set:
    General selections:  Under "Additional Options," "Apply to all Topics," "CSS" is selected, with the correct CSS name displayed.  "Add Mark of the Web" is selected.
    Navigation selections:  For Toolbar Buttons, Contents, Index, Search, Glossary are selected.  For Search Options, "Enable Highlight Search Results" is selected.
    Navigation Pane Preferred Format selection is Pure HTML.  (We tried DHTML/HTML but that resulted in an empty nav pane and a nonfunctional index.)
    Optimize Speed For:  Web Site (Internet)
    Publish:  Republish All.
    What are we doing wrong?  I'm totally stumped and I can't seem to find any help on this issue anywhere.  Thanks!

    Hi there
    Please do expound.

     I finally succeeded in getting a Search pane that looked right and performed correctly by deselecting the Mark of the Web option.
    To my knowledge this option only affects the output when you view things locally, as in when you are testing the output immediately after generating. Are you saying here that it somehow affected things after you uploaded the files to the server?

  • RoboHelp HTML 9 Search Pane Max results controls

    RoboHelp HTML 9 with WebHelp as output...
    I have a two part question. By default when our users do a search in compile dhelp, they see 10 search results per page. Is there a place in my RoboHelp interface where I can change that to larger number? I have found a line of code in a *.js file where it looks like I could manually change it, but would prefer not to have to do it that route in case that causes unintended hiccups elsewhere.
    var nMaxResult = 10 ;
    Second part of my question is related to statement in release notes/new features notes for RoboHelp 9 that state users can control the max search results per page on-the-fly as they use the Search pane. This feature only applies to WebHelp or WebHelp Pro and my output is WebHelp. I can see a line of code for that feature in the whfform.htm file but nothing shows up like that in the Search pane within compiled help. Is this a bug or is there a control somewhere in RoboHelp project settings that allows me to enable that option for users? The last 2 lines below would seem to control this area. The Search pane items referenced in first 4 lines do show up ok in my Search pane.
    gsTitle = "Type in the word(s) to search for:";
    gsTitle = "Type in the word(s) to search for:";
    gsHiliteSearchTitle = "Highlight search results";
    gsHiliteSearchTitle = "Highlight search results";
    gsMaxSearchTitle = "Search results per page" ;
    gsMaxSearchTitle = "Search results per page";
    Thanks for any insight you can provide,
    KF

    I know this is an old topic, but I was trying to figure this out myself today and finally found it. In case others have been looking for this, it's in in this file:
    whform.js
    find this variable:
    var gnMaxRslt = 10;
    and then change the 10 to the number you want.
    If you do that in the generated help, the number will change in the Search pane, but it will still display only 10 results. To get it to actually display more than 10 results, I had to edit the RoboHelp file, not the generated help. I made a copy of C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 10\RoboHTML\WebHelp5Ext\template_stock\whform.js before I edited it. (Right-click the file, click Copy, then right-click in the folder and click Paste. Edit the one that doesn't say Copy in the filename. Then if you want to back it out, delete the one you edited and remove Copy from the original.) If you have your project open in RoboHelp, close it, then reopen it so it can "grab" the new info.
    This ought to be in the WebHelp Setting dialog box on the Search pane.

  • How can I configure Robohelp to display search results in DHTML drop-down hotspots?

    Hello. We designed our online help using drop-down hotspots (this look is much cleaner to us). Problem is, when a user searches for something and clicks the Search results topic page  to find the information, the topic page displays, but does not expand the drop-down hotspot to show the exact location of the searched item. Is there a JavaScript or some other solution to get the DHTML hotspot to expand, showing the information? Thanks.

    Step 5: Add the code from the supplied text file to the top whtopic.js.
    Do I add the code at the very beginning, before   //   WebHelp 5.10.005  ?
    I'm asking because I followed the steps and it did not work.
    FWIW, I am also using the Twisties function in Robohelp (via the drop-down hotspot style file).
    Thanks.

  • Robohelp 9 WebHelp - Searching doesn't produce any results.

    Hi, I upgraded to RoboHelp 9 last week and now searching in Webhelp doesn't produce any results. I've created a new project, used the sample project, tried generating it to a new folder and results remain the same.
    When I select the search tab, the status bar flutters with the "Waiting for file...." displayed indefinetly with the occassion display of the javascript: (void);
    Screens shots are from the RH 9 sample project. Results are the same with my projects.  CHMs generated work fine!
    Any suggestions?

    Mary
    You added the problem to another thread that was not related as the issue there is the use of HTTPS. I have deleted that post.
    You also started a second thread with a the same question. I don't understand how asking the question twice will help so I have locked that thread but created a link to this thread so that anyone with an answer can help you. If there is a reason for starting a second thread, please let me know.
    Please just ask once and wait for a reply as this wastes moderator's time that is better used trying to answer questions.
    Now to the problem. Searching with Chrome installed works just fine for most people so the problem seems to be local to you. If I have read you correctly, after installing Chrome, the search breaks no matter what browser is used.
    Was that checked on other machines or just yours?
    IGNORE THIS QUESTION - The answer is YES and that was in the post.
    Did you also check that search was broken with the supplied sample projects? I know that works with the three browsers being discussed here?
    Where was the help installed when tested by you both standalone and from the application?
    Questions 2 and 3 are really only related to problems with Chrome. I have not seen anyone report Chrome also breaking the search in the other browsers. There's more to this than meets the eye as Chrome has not caused that problem for anyone else, or at least, no one has reported it.

  • RoboHelp 10 WebHelp search feature not working?

    Hi all,
    I am using the Adobe Technical Communication Suite 4 and cannot get RoboHelp 10 to generate a WebHelp product with search capabilities.
    I have created a RoboHelp 10 WebHelp project and imported FrameMaker 11 files.
    Everything seems okay, but when I search in Internet Explorer 10, nothing happens.  I can even be on the same page as a term and enter the term in the box,
    but then nothing happenns. I also tried:  Opera, Firefox, Chrome and Safari browsers and still no results in the WebHelp search results.
    Actually, I get one word by default and that word is:  "null".
    Any idea on what is causing this?  I have a deliverable due soon, and I need to get this search capability working.
    Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
    I am using the latest patch too - RoboHelp 10.0.0.287
    Regards,
    Jim

    Hi Jeff,
    Thanks for the reply.  I am not sure if it is Java, although I did download Java to make sure I had the latest update.  I am running on a Windows 7 64 Bit Dell Laptop with Adobe TCS 4.
    I just saw a different post - but related to this post on the topic and I think it has to do something with the XML files that are created during the normal generation process.
    I have a feeling that there is something wrong with my XML files and the reason I say that is because I can generate one of the sample RoboHelp projects to WebHelp and then use IE 10 to search and the results
    come up right away, but when I do a WebHelp generate on my project the search does not work.
    Here is that related thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/798369
    Search Error: Failed to initialize database
    Mar 1, 2011 12:33 PM
    That thread dealt with RoboHelp 8 and I am using RoboHelp 10, but I think the problem is probably the same.
    My questions are as follows:
    I have a customer deliverable on Monday with several hundred files and a search mechanism that does not work at all.  Can I copy the search mechanism from the sample project and then put it into my project?
    Are the XML files generic or specific to each project?
    How many XML, Javascript and other RoboHelp type files are used to make the search functionality work?  I was thinking of populating one of those sample files, that has already been started with my files to see if that would get things going in the right direction - with the idea of removing all the sample files from that project and replacing them with my files, but, I have over 400 files, including references to foldout drawings and vendor manuals (baggage files) and it would probably take too much time to make that happen.
    With that said, if you or anyone else has ideas on how I could get this search engine working, I would really, really appreciate it.
    My current file structure is like this:
    Main Project Folder
        !ScreenLayout
        My Project File1
        My Project File2
        My Project File3
        resource
        whdata
        whgdata
        whxdata
        Frnt_Cov.htm
        Frnt_Cov_csh.htm
        Frnt_Cov_rhc.htm
        All RoboHelp graphics, javascripts and .htm files
    There does NOT seem to these folders that are in the sample:
    !Language!
    !SkinSubFolder!
    !SSL!
    The !ScreenLayout! folder is the only one present.  Does this have anything to do with only having MultiScreen HTML5 and WebHelp (Primary Layout) for my project settings?
    Again the most notable difference I see, is between the folders NOT included in my project (!Language!, !SkinSubFolder! and !SSL!).  I am not sure why these folders are not included in WebHelp.
    Thanks for taking the time to read this, as well as for any suggestions that can be offered.  I really need to get the search feature working by tomorrow.
    Regards,
    Jim

  • Medical Glossary search box

    I am working on a site for Cardiologists and student
    cardiologists. I would like to add a searchable glossary of medical
    terms to the site.
    If you look at this site, they have one.
    http://www.leukemia-lymphoma.org/hm_lls
    SH

    That search is done by accessing a database of terms and
    their definitions.
    How is your server-side coding skills, and do you know what
    server language
    the server supports? Hopefully they already have a database
    of terms and
    their definitions for you to work from; otherwise, you are
    going to have to
    create a database yourself and populate it with the terms and
    definitions.

  • Robohelp 9:  WebHelp search showing too many highlighted results

    I set up the WebHelp Settings (Search) to Enable Highlighting in Search Results, Show Context in Search Results, and Hide Rank Column in Search Results.  When I search for keywords, such as "e-mailing requestors", the results highlight every letter in the search phrase, including the "e" in "the.  I did not enable the Substring Search.  Please see the attached screenshot.  Does anyone know what's wrong?
    I have the latest update of RoboHelp 9 (9.0.0.228).  This is happening in IE9 (9.0.8112.16421) and Firefox 3.6.20.  (I can't even test the WebHelp locally in Google Chrome until I upload it to the Web server, since all of the panes are blank (version 13.0.782.112 m).

    Peter,
    You and Rick are both correct.
    Here's the response from Nidhi at Adobe Support after I reported this as a bug:
    "For searching words like 'e-mail' ,you need to specify it in double quotes ,and then only just the word 'e-mail' will be highlighted .
    As in our search we have a set of break characters:-  @ $ ^ ( ) ~ ? / { } [ ] + = ! * - %.
    Whenever we encounter such break characters in the search query ,text is broken into keywords at these characters and indexed for searching  ,and that is why in case of the word e-mail, the word 'e' and the word 'mail' are indexed separately .And when you search for the word e-mail without quotes ,it would search for all instances where it finds the word 'e' or the word 'mail' and highlight them .
    Hence if you want the search to return and highlight only the word 'e-mail', you need to specify the word 'e-mail' in quotes like "e-mail" so that it honors it as a phrase and phrase search is done on it and the exact match is returned and highlighted."
    Thanks very much for your help.

  • RoboHelp HTML 11 Search problems

    I have turned off Substring Search on the WebHelp. This a clinical information site so we have medical staff looking for diseases using acronyms. For example: If we search for "STI" (with or without quotes)... we get the documents and topics that have Sexually Transmitted Infections but we also have things like testing or posting show up as well. How can we get it webhelp search to stop finding these types of strings. I have tried to find answers in help and in the forum but I haven't been able to find any help. I've followed all the suggestions but it hasn't helped. I made sure that my current version of RoboHelp has all the updates and it continues to happen. Have you got any suggestions or words that I can tell users how to search effectively?
    Thanks
    Deb

    Thanks for the idea Jeff but I have already removed all of the indexed keywords from the topics. When a user searched, they received too many returns so we removed the index keywords. Users were complaining about too many returns. They are used to the Windows search function on their network and didn't like the webhelp search. I know they are going to complain about these substrings so I'm trying to get rid of them.

  • RoboHelp X5 Alphabetical Search Sort

    We have RoboHelp X5 here with Update 5.0.2. When the help
    file is compiled on one workstation, the "Index" tab shows entries
    alphabetically. However, from a second workstation it seems to
    build based on when items were input into the project (no sorting).
    Is there a registry key or option inside the application that
    would cause this behavior?

    Hi there
    If you click File > Project Settings you will find an
    option that may be enabled or disabled. It is called "Binary
    Index". A Binary Index is always sorted. A Non-Binary index will be
    presented in the order the terms were entered. RoboHelp does offer
    an option (if you are using a Non-Binary index) that allows you to
    right-click the Index composer and sort the entries.

  • Why is the Robohelp webhelp search so slow?

    Hello,
    I currently use Robohelp 9 and produce merged Webhelp using Zoomsearch v6 as the search engine.
    My sites has around 2500 topics and 26 merged projects. Zoomsearch produces search results in under half a second.
    I decided to use zoomseach (after reading Peter Grainge's useful site) as the default Robohelp search didn't seem great and was taking 5 to nearly 30 seconds to return results. I think even 5 seconds is too long in this day and age!
    Is this normal? And is there anything i could do to speed this up?
    Does anyone know if Robohelp 10 speeds up the search?
    Thanks

    I have always found the search to be quicker than that. My use of ZoomSearch was for other reasons.
    You can have RoboHelp's own search in addition to ZoomSearch so why not just set that up to see if it is still taking that long?
    Also try one of the supplied sample projects. Click Open on the RoboHelp Starter page and then click Samples in the ribbon on the left.

  • Search Not Working in WebHelp - Suspected Java Issue

    The Search function in our output WebHelp system is not working from one user's laptop.  The WebHelp is generated from our RoboHelp 8.  Search does work in everyone else's access to the system.  This Windows 7 laptop displays an "Error on Page" message when he enters a search value and then chooses the Search button.  He says the same error occurs for the Index. Because no other users have this problem, we are definitely thinking it's something in his laptop configuration for Java - as we see the JS file references in the error details, as shown below.
    The details for the "Error on Page" message are referencing the following messages and JS files
    Index error messages in details:
    Object doesn't support this property or method - whthost.js
    'innerHeight' is undefined - whutils.js
    Search error messages in details:
    Object doesn't support this property or method - whthost.js
    'innerHeight' is undefined - whutils.js
    'gaFakes[...].nB' is null or not an object - whhost.js
    'Node' is undefined - whfhost.js
    What should he check in his Java?  He's using Java 6, Standard Edition, update 16.  Any ideas or suggestions about what he should check on this laptop?  I would appreciate your help and expertise in solving this mystery!  Hopefully I've provided enough details here - but let me know what else I need to provide.
    Thanks so much,
    Susan

    We were getting this error sometimes.
    I modified the code in wsutils.js as follows:
    Original code:
    function    getClientHeight()
        if(gbSafari3)
             return innerHeight;   //this is for safari
    return document.body.clientHeight;      }
    New code:
    function getClientHeight()
    return document.body.clientHeight;
    Seems to work (at the cost I guess of losing support for safari browsers - but I haven't tested that), but I can't test that it never fails because it was an intermittent fault...

  • Is there a way of making Search be for exact string match?

    When I generate a help system (RoboHelp 7), and search on,
    say, "contact type", the system returns a list of topic links of
    topics that contain the word "contact" or the word "type". What I'd
    like is for it to do as PDF search does and return only topics that
    contain the complete string "contact type".
    I can't find a setting for doing this among the RoboHelp HTML
    options. Is it possible to do just with a setting? Or would one
    have to do some customizing involving utility calls or something
    like that?

    I do not know how this works for WebHelp, but for HTMLHelp,
    searching for phrases is simple:
    Use single or double quotes or round brackets:
    'find this'
    "find this"
    (find this)
