RoboHelp 9.0.2 Crashing

I just updated to RoboHelp 9.0.2 and now everytime I try to update a linked Word file in my RoboHelp HTML project it crashes.  Any suggestions?  It wasn't doing this before the update.  I did reboot my system.

Cathy
Sorry but I've had no problems with 902 with or without linked documents and I haven't seen anyone else report any.

  • RoboHelp project with variables crashes

    Hi,
I have 2 projects that had no problems until I added
variables. Now they crash about 90% of the time while generating
the .chm file, and always during the "updating" stage. (Eventually,
    I do manage...)
I am using RoboHelp 7, and not on a server. I have tried
    replacing the CPD file.
Does anyone know what I should do?
    Thanks,
    Jackie

Thanks, havent tried that, will do so today.
In the meantime, I saw in my computer log that there are lots
of errors with the following description:
"Faulting application robohtml.exe, version 7.3.1.0, faulting
module baselibrary_release_u_dll, version 0.0.0.0 etc." Does this
    mean anything?
Also, today I tried generating a Word document, and the same
thing happened - RH crashed a few times while updating. (Problem
was solved when I generated the document with the images in a
    linked file.)
    Thanks,
    Jackie

  • Robohelp 10 command line crashes

I am trying to build a robohelp project at the command line and it crashes. Building manually in the IDE works.
    The event log show:
Faulting application name: RHCL.exe, version: 0.0.0.0, time stamp: 0x4ff35c65
Faulting module name: HtmSingleSourceMultiScreenHelp.dll, version: 10.0.0.287, time stamp: 0x4ff358bc
    Exception code: 0xc0000005
    Fault offset: 0x0000f38a
    Faulting process id: 0x7f8
    Faulting application start time: 0x01cfc3baef76dd63
Faulting application path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 10\RoboHTML\RHCL.exe
Faulting module path: C:\Program Files (x86)\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 10\RoboHTML\HtmSingleSourceMultiScreenHelp.dll
    Report Id: 30ffeec3-2fae-11e4-9ddc-f4ce46ba20d2
The generated log shows that it crashes right after it logs 'Processing index data...'.
It appears to be the same issue found here: Generating either Multiscreen or Responsive HTML5 from command line (RHCL)
What can I do to get this building on the command line successfully? I have 4 other projects I am doing this the same way with and they are generating the output fine.

If the other projects work fine, there is probably someting in the project giving trouble. The best way to move fowards:
    1. Create a COPY of the project.
    2. From the project, delete some files/folders/
    3. Try to generate again.
    4. If the crash occurs, remove some more until it works.
    5. If the project generates, check the last deleted files and try to narrow the issue down to a single file or multiple files.
    6. Come back with details of the files that are giving issues (file name, any weird HTML, etc.) That way we can perhaps figure out why RoboHelp is crashing.
You can also file a bug report with Adobe: Adobe - Feature Request/Bug Report Form
But they will want the same information and it's no guarantee it will be fixed (just as the forum, really)
    Kind regards,
    Willam

  • Robohelp 11 continues to crash using FrameMaker 11 files

I am trying to import Frame files into a Robohelp project. I have tried to imports each document separately, to import the book file, and even to import the pdf. Robohelp crashes every time. The program worked fine when I last used it 4 months ago, so now I am stuck!!
Where do I start to troubleshoot? Our IT people do not know this program and cannot help.
    Thanks

    Jeff;
I am currently trying to download any Frame and Robohelp updates.  We have a really poor connection to the internet, so this may take some time....
Yes...we are still using FM11 with RH 11. We have not upgraded to FM 1.
I will return here with more information later.
    Thanks

  • RoboHelp 7 crashes

My RoboHelp HTML Project keeps crashing when I try to delete information or click on the Enter key.
I uninstalled and reinstalled.  I increased my virtual memory to 4.5-9.0 GB.  Below are my system properties:

Does this problem occur with all projects or just one? If you only have one project, create a new one just to test with a few topics or open on of the supplied samples.
I suspect other projects will be OK and if that is the case, then rename the CPD file in the problem project (via Windows Explorer) and then reopen it. RoboHelp will create a new file and all should be OK. Post back if not.
There is a full explanation in Opening Projects on my site.
BTW. How do you click the Enter key? I have to press mine.

  • Is RoboHelp Causing These Crashes?

Has anybody seen this behavior before and if so, is my IT guy
right that RoboHelp is the cause?
Whenever I try to work with images (saving them after
creating them in PhotoShop, or importing them in to Dreamweaver or
FrameMaker for use in our docs), whatever application I'm in
freezes up. This does not happen in all folders containing images -
sometimes I can work with images in a particular folder for several
hours, but then, all-of-a-sudden, the folder will become corrupt
and every time I try to import an image from that folder, or save
an image to it, the application I'm working with (Dreamweaver or
FrameMaker) crashes. And if I try to get in to the folder via
Windows Explorer, that, too, will either crash or freeze up
whenever I try to launch the offending folder.
The IT guy at my company says he's seen this before on
machines that have both RoboHelp and FrameMaker installed. He says
RoboHelp does not play nicely with other applications. But I find
    that hard to believe.
Here's what I've observed of this problem:
    - When I try to import an image into a document while using
FrameMaker, Dreamweaver or RoboHelp, the application sometimes
crashes or freezes up. This only seems to happen with certain
folders that contain images – other images from different
folders appear to import without any problem at all.
    - There’s no discernible pattern as to why or when this
happens, but once it happens, I can’t work with that folder
ever again – not in any of those applications, nor in Windows
    Explorer.
    - If I close everything and reboot, the problem does not go
    away.
    - If I try to just open Windows Explorer and extract the
image from the offending folder, I can’t – Explorer
just freezes up or crashes entirely. When it freezes up, I have to
go to the task manager to end the task.
    - This doesn’t happen with all folders that contain
images, only some appear to be affected. One folder might work just
fine for several weeks, then suddenly corrupt. But once it’s
corrupt, it’s all over. I can’t ever open or work with
    that folder again.
    - This only happens with folders that contain images. Folders
that contain text docs (such as Word, FrameMaker or RoboHelp docs
do not appear to be impacted).
    - If I physically copy and paste the folder to my desktop,
the problem goes away. I can import with no problem at all. If I
then rename the folder and copy it back to its original place with
a new name, the problem is still solved. But if I then delete the
original corrupted folder and rename the new one with the old
folder’s name, the problem begins again.
    - I can’t just rename files or move them elsewhere b/c
we have literally hundreds of images in 10 different online and
print docs that are referenced from various files, so if I try to
move images elsewhere, all of the other references break.
    - I’ve tried doing a disk cleanup and a defrag
    procedure, but that didn’t help.
    Any ideas? Suggestions? Thoughts?
    Karyn Hunt

RoboHelp is not installed on the network so I know that's not
the problem (the guy who taught me the program warned me about
that). And we've eliminated the admin privileges issue b/c I did
have appropriate privileges when I installed.
So that leaves the integrity of the disk as one potential
problem and possible interactions with other software such as CVS,
    anti-virus programs, etc. as another.
My original intent after reading all of these suggestions was
to run a diagnosis for the integrity of the disk/media to figure
out for sure if the problem was the disk.
But ... my IT guy says he doesn't have time for that. He
wants to just start from scratch with a different computer.
So I'm going to reinstall everything - one program at a time
    - and carefully test along the way to see at what point the
problems crop up. And this time, I'm going to do ALL the
installations myself, and allow fewer programs to decrease the
possibility of interactions (which may or may not be the problem).
If it does turn out to be a program interaction thing, I'll
let you guys know. My guess/hope (*fervent hope*) is that the
    problem will go away.
Thank you all for your suggestions. You've been a tremendous
    help.

  • Robohelp crashes when inserting images

    Can anyone help.
When I'm inserting images into Robohelp X5 it keeps crashing
and I have to completely restart my PC.
Any ideas what could be causing this?
    Thanks

    Hi Jane and welcome,
How 'exactly' are you inserting images?
Are you working with your project locally?
What error message do you get before your PC crashes?
    thanks

  • RH8 crashes on converting RH7 project...

...please bear with me, this is long: I've successfully converted four significant RoboHelp 7 projects to RoboHelp 8 -- however, I have one that continuously, repeatedly crashes RoboHelp: the conversion itself crashes (maybe 2/3 of the way through), but opens up the project on the next execution of RH8; if I attempt to save changes in most topics, RH8 crashes. If I attempt to preview most topics, RH8 crashes. If I attempt to update DHTML Effects, RH8 crashes.
I can compile (to either WebHelp or FlashHelp), but my "Normal" template (a stub) is replicated at the top of each and every topic in the compiled system. I've gone through the usual hoops (I've been around long enough), including deleting the CPD file, even the baggage, index, TOC and other configuration/parameter files...to no avail. I created a new, blank project and imported one file. RH8 crashed.
However, I can go back and open up any of the other converted systems and they run like clockwork, without a hitch.
The Vista Problem Report listed the crash as:

At one point, before I uninstalled and reinstalled Visual Office 2008 on a long shot (try that some time: it's not a trivial task...), I'd received a debug message something like "yada-yada was activated while yad-yada was activated before yada-yada was deactivated" -- I Googled that, and the resolutions were horrific and I'm trying to forget.
After a full work week of  grubbing around, I found the solution to RH8 crashing on save: some topics could be individually saved, most not. I did some file diffs and discovered that a table at the very top of each topic was variously saved by RH7 as either:
    <table x-use-null-cells style="width: 100%; x-cell-content-align: Center; border-right-style: Groove; border-right-width: ;
                                    border-bottom-style: Groove; border-bottom-width: ; border-spacing: 0px;
                                    border-spacing: 0px;" cellspacing=0 width=100%>
    ...or...
    <table style="background-repeat: repeat; background-attachment: scroll;
                                    background-image: url('Graphics/paper1a.jpg'); border-right-style: Groove;
                                    border-bottom-style: Groove;" cellspacing="0" background="Graphics/paper1a.jpg" width="100%">
Topics with the first, crashed RH8. Always. Topics with the second were saved as expected.
OK, so that problem was solved (in a sense)....but, I still have the issue where my template (normal.htt -- which consists solely of a stubbed table as above and now corrected) gets inserted into the top of every published topic. For example:
The template ("Master Page") is a stub: "This is a stub."
In the generated output (local machine, no server/network, running Vista64), every topic begins with "This is a stub" -- even if I delete normal.htt...
I've submitted this as a bug, but would really appreciate any ideas. The first part, above, frazzled me no end--this part is driving me nuts. Again, all other projects have converted just fine and cause no issues.
    Thank you in advance...

Thanks to the help from Peter, this issue is resolved (and—depending on how you look at it—is two bugs in the conversion process).
    1.       For the “printing” of the stubbed text in the Master Page on each topic when output: “Template” pages in RH7 became “Master Pages” in RH8. A new RH8 Master Page contains a special body tag that prevents contained stub text from displaying in the output. Anything outside the special body tag displays on all output associated with the Master Page. In RH7 Templates, on the other hand, nothing would show/was supposed to show on output…getting the picture? <G>
So, fixing the RH7 converted Template with the RH8 code fixed that (everything from the RH7 Template was outside the special body tag). Peter alternatively suggested removing links to the Template in RH7, deleting it, then building a new Master Page in RH8 for new topics.
    2.       For the continuous crashing of RH8 and inability to save or preview certain topics: Throughout the years and various RoboHelp upgrades, the tables I had at the top of each topic to contain the topic title and summary text were variously started in the HTML as either “<table x-use-null-cells style=” or “<table style=”. RH7 was perfectly happy with either syntax.
RH8 is not at all happy with “<table x-use-null-cells style=”.
Any topic containing that string in the RH7 HTML would crash the project (indeed, crashed the conversion) when I attempted to save or preview the topic. With an external editor, I went though each of 300 topics and replaced all instances of “<table x-use-null-cells style=” with “<table style=” and the project is again 100%.
Again, thanks to Peter for the help in getting this figured out!

  • RoboHelp HTML v5 Crash when I try to open topic

I did a minor edit on a small topic in an existing project.
Robohelp crashed before I could save. I ended the task and reloaded
the project into HR, and received this msg:
The reference to the file, "C:\help projects\UW\IDI UW\Chap
    15\file:\C:\help projects\UW man.css" from the file ""C:\help
    projects\UW\IDI UW\Chap 15\syndrome.htm" contains illegal
characters and will not be shown in the project manager.
RH crashed again. I loaded the referenced file in Internet
Explorer, found the funky path displayed on the error msg, modied
it, and saved the file. When I tried to open the project in RH and
open the topic, I didn't receive the error message again, but RH
did crash. Ended the task w/Windows Task Manager, loaded RH and
opened the project. I then deleted the offending topic and
reimported it from an MS Word file. No error msg., but RH crashed
    again.
I was able to edit another topic, save, and regenerate.
However, now RH crashes no matter which topic I try to edit. The
last time I worked on this project was 11/07, and everything went
    smoothly then.
It's late Sunday evening. I'm stumped. Great issue for a
    Monday morning. Any ideas?

I decided to try the oldest trick in the book and reboot the
computer. That resolved the problem! Duh!
However, I need to edit the index on the project, and RH
crashes when I try to open the index designer. I haven't tried to
reboot. I am opening another topic on this one. I found many issues
with RH crashes, and maybe that will help someone else, when we
    have a resolution.

  • File Update Crashes Robohelp

This is a persistent problem that I've had from Day One of
using this product. And yes, I have all updates installed.
I am able to create the RH project and copy by reference the
FM book, and generate webhelp alright, but occasionally and for no
apparent reason, when I update a single file (chapter) in RH, the
update goes to an unspecified point and crashes the program. Every
subsequent update of that file results in the same crash. Now I am
afraid to update the entire book for fear of corrupting the entire
project. When I re-open the RH project following the crash, all the
cross-reference markers in the updated file appear in RH as red
boxes. Does this indicate a problem with a specific cross-reference
    in the FM source file?
Any help would be greatly appreciated as the amount of manual
post-synchronization work in the converted RH files is significant
(due to Chinese translation). By the way, other larger FM files in
the same project updated successfully (and were also subject to the
same Chinese translation process), so I'm at a loss as to the cause
of this problem. It must be in the specific FM source file
    somewhere.

    Hi there
The tenor of your post would seem to infer you believe the Adobe engineers are intently watching the forums in search of issues like yours to address. I'm basing that from your statements:

  • RoboHelp 10 Crashes consistently when trying to delete linked FM11 book

I have a linked project where RoboHelp absolutely refuses to display part of a topic and some of the images. So I decided to delete the linked FM book file and start again from scratch (this was a FM10/RH9 project originally). This causes RH to crash consistently. Any ideas?

I thought that moving my project location to a shorter path had solved my Cross references issue, but it hasn't. Here is a page from the Help:
These are all the same Heading style in FM
The X Refs are all to headings within the Current FM file
They are all the same Cross Reference Format (Heading & Page)

  • RoboHelp 9 gives an out of memory error and crashes when I try to import or link a Frame 10 file or

I have Tech Suite 3. If I start a new RoboHelp project and try to import or link Frame files, RoboHelp tries for a while, then I get an Out of Memory error and the program crashes.
I opened one of the sample projects and was able to link to one of my frame files without any problem, so it seems to be an issue with creating something new.
    Any suggestions?

It happens when I create a new project and then try to import or link frame docs to make up the content. It starts scanning, then crashes. I did get it to the conversion setting page once, but no further.
It does not happen if I open one of the supplied example projects and link a file. But then it doesn't let me choose, during import, any style mapping. And I can't delete the sample project fold
Twice now it has told me when I tried to import (not link, but import) that my .fm file could not be opened, and told me to verify that Frame is installed (it is) and that the file is a valid frame file (it is).
The docs and project are in separate folders on my C: drive.

  • PDF causes Robohelp 9 to crash

Can you think of what elements might cause a PDF file to crash Robohelp every time I try to compile the help and publish?
I downloaded an Excel calendar template from microsoft.com. The formulas update the dates in the month areas when you select the year from a dropdown menu. Nothing too fancy, but kind of cool.
I rearranged the months around a little bit, used a custom font, and inserted the company logo.jpg. I set the print area to only print the calendar, NOT the dropdown, then saved it as a PDF. I uploaded it as a baggage file, and attached it to a topic. All is very normal. Then I compile and get an message telling me that Robohelp 9 encountered an error. When I click for more information, I get this - it goes on for days. I just copied the first page.
So I closed down other software, made sure no PDF files displayed in the live version on the server I was publishing to, removed the custom font, deleted the image, and tried some other diddling, but nothing worked. When I remove that file, the project compiles just fine.
Does anyone have any other thoughts? The next thing I'm going to do is try a different template, but I'm wondering if, after all my customization, I can still use this one somehow.
    Thanks!

Update: I tried to save other Excel templates into PDFs directly from the Microsoft site without making any changes at all, then added them as baggage files and found that NONE of them compile if they're in a Robohelp project. I don't know if it's a Microsoft issue or a Robohelp issue, but it's out there.
So, I did a screen shot of the calendar and created a .jpg, popped it into Word and saved it as a PDF that way. One does what one has to...

  • Robohelp 9 crashing when generating Web Help

Hi there, I have RH V 9.0.1.232 installed. I have a project with about 1000 files which was converted from RH 8 without issue until now.
There are 3 Conditional Build Tags. I can publish the project to Web Help with layouts including tags #1 and #2, but when I include #3 in any layout, RH crashes at the same point every time, as shown below:
I have tried leaving it for over an hour without change. When I open Task Manager, RH is listed as "Not Responding." I do not get an error message at all. I have not generated this layout in several months, and possibly not since I have had RH 9.
Tag #3 must be applied to hide content from a public audience. This tag is applied to several sections in every topic, and is also applied at the topic level for about 20% of the topics.
Here is what I've tried to do:
    1. Create a test project with multiple tags and publish to WebHelp - no issue found.
    2. Rolled the project folder back to an earlier version from yesterday morning - problem still exists, could try an earlier version but a lot of work was done yesterday.
    3. Followed the instructions here, which have served me well in the past - problem still exists- http://www.techfuels.com/software-jargons/29202-repairing-corrupted-robohelp-project.html
All of this leads me to think there is something wrong with the tag in particular. I could delete the tag, create a new one and reapply it, but that would be a major challenge considering the number of topics I'm dealing with, and I am the lone writer.
Anyway, if anyone has any ideas or has had problems like this in the past, I would appreciate your time.
    Thanks,
    Michelle

Michelle I think that whilst thanks are always welcome, in this case you should thank yourself. All I did you get you to question what had changed. You did all the hard graft. Glad you got it sorted.

  • RoboHelp 9 crashes during the publish of a project

    Greetings friends,
I am in a serious bind. I have a project that was created in Robohelp 9. I started encountering crashes on the evening of Jan 30th when attempting to publish the project.
I have been working in this same project without issue for 3 months without issue. I suspect the issue is related to some topics that were updated or created on that day.
Here is what I have tried:
    1. I am able to successfully publish other projects
    2. I was able publish the project in question earlier in the day. From modified times, I can deduce the batch of topics that may be involved.
The problem is there are 32 topics.
    3. I have evaluated each of the 32 topics, seeing an earlier thread that referenced potential issues with tables. I did find 2 topics where the table looked a bit odd. I edited the properties on the tables and saved the topics. The issue persisted.
    4. For grins, I checked the properties on the tables in each topic to be sure they matched the format in known-good topics.
    5. I have tried renaming the project's .cpd file - based on other posts- the same issue occurs.
    6. The project is pretty good size, so recreating it is NOT an option.
    So I am stuck!
I have some questions to try to resolve this:
    1. I noted in another thread that a user with a similar issue was able to publish via command line. Any suggestions on the string to use?
    2. Is there a way to test this project by removing the suspect topics, then readding them one-at-a-time - aside from manually re-creating the topic in RH, then copy/paste from the original?
Any suggestions on how to achieve this goal?
    3. Are there any debugging/compiling tools available to help troubleshoot this type of error? This seems like a fairly common error where topic formatting can cause trouble. It would SEEM logical that a tool would exist.
I thank you all in advance for your consideration on this!
    Thanks again.

To create the tag, right click a topic to which it is to be applied and click the options shown.
In this screen click New and create a tag called Exclude.
OK that and the tag is created and applied to that topic.
To apply to the others, open the Topic List pod and select them. (Use the CTRL key to make multiple selections)
Right click, select Properties and apply the tag in the Advanced tab.
Open the layout and go to Content.
Click Define to open the window shown. Exclude will be listed. Click the arrow to move it to the right. Generate the help.
With those topics excluded, it should all generate OK, in theory.
