RoboHelp 9 re: firefox seeing this:

We assumed that upgrading to RoboHelp 9 would resolve this squiggle issue when trying to view in Firefox:    We have the same trouble in this new version of RH9. I called adobe support and they seem to confirm there is an issue, but did not offer a fix.
We heard there was a encoder tool for RH 8, is this available for RH9?  In Single Source Layout of RH9 there is a choice to make a Encoding selection and we have selected Unicode(UTF-8), but after publishing still see:   in firefox.  There  is not a choice for unchecking a check box for BOM that was discussed in a thread about the encoder tool for RH8.  Is this BOM the missing link?
Any thoughts or suggestions?
Thank you.

When you select something other than UTF-8, SOME output, not all, still contains the BOM. I did not say the setting was completely ignored, just largely ignored. Actually this is slightly more annoying than if it were completely ignored because a quick check on HTML files shows it gone. However it is left in some files. Specifically .js and .css files. This may be why the search function faile in Opera, but that is another matter.
The UTF-8 BOM is specifically not required, especially where the UTF-8 identity immediately follows. Files are assumed to be UTF-8 unless specifically identified otherwise. The UTF-16 BOM is therefore required; the UTF-8 is NOT.
The reason some do not like the 'workaround' of making allowances on the server for incorrect RoboHelp output, may be that not everyone has the luxury of making fundamental changes to server configuration and re-booting the server in order to fix what should not be broken. Many small organisations rely on remote hosting companies and such changes followed by system re-boots are not a simple matter for them. With Linux-based servers being dominant on the Internet and Apache being the dominant server configuration, this problem will become more important as Microsoft rapidly loses its browser dominance. The only broswer to handle default RohoHelp8 + output is MSIE.
If there is indeed a product download that overcomes the problem and allows the option of leaving off the rule-breaking UTF-8 BOM from output, I would appreciate finding it. As it is I am forced to re-edit every file with a W3C complient Hex-editor to take out the offending six bytes from each compilation. A task that takes longer than the original compilation, and so wastes valuable human time when there are upwards of 1000 files involved. I assume that because it fixes a critical product fault, it is a free download?

HOW DO YOU TURN OFF "FIREFOX PREVENTED THIS PAGE FROM AUTOMATICALLY RELOADING". I did perform the "see Advanced - General - Accessibility. It worked for me and my "user" site (don't know how to say my site) and still having problems with my wife's. I have gone to OPTIONS → GONE TO → ADVANCE and CLICKED THE LINE → ""Warn me when websites try to redirect or reload the page…""
This did not rememdy the problem. I did try to get on the other site suggested
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Accessibility.blockautorefresh
    but got a 404 error...
I have googled the "ff prevented...." and after a number of hours searching I still have not found a fix...
REALLY HOPE SOMEONE CAN HELP ME....

You should still disable this setting:
*Firefox > Options/Preferences > Advanced > General : Accessibility : [ ] "Warn me when web sites try to redirect or reload the page"
The setting in "Options > Advanced > General" is meant as an accessibility feature, as you can see by the label of that section, so that people with disabilities or people who use screen readers do not get confused and is not meant as a safety protection to stop redirecting.
What is the value of the <b>accessibility.blockautorefresh</b> pref on the <b>about:config</b> page?

  • I keep seeing this To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as a search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier.

i have been seeing this alot
To display this page, Firefox must send information that will repeat any action (such as a search or order confirmation) that was performed earlier.
i tried what was in help but it didnt work

You get an alert about resending POST data if you go back to a page that was previously requested from the server by submitting form data via a POST form.<br />
Firefox can only make sure to get the same page by resending that POST form.<br />
Firefox doesn't know what that form data means, so Firefox asks for confirmation before resending that form data as such an action can cause you to repeat an action and buy another item or post a message another time.<br />
A way to prevent that pop-up is not to use the Back button, but to open links from a page that was requested from a server by sending a POST form in a new tab (window) with a middle-click or a Ctrl + left-click.<br />
Then you can close that tab or window to go back.<br />

  • The start page on Firefox on my laptop (Windows 7) appears to have been hijacked. Phony logo w/ cartoon character appears w/ "check me." Anyone seeing this ?

When opening a new session with Firefox, the standard Firefox logo appears briefly, then the screen changes to a very distorted version of the same logo, with a small cartoon character saying "click me". Anyone seeing this ? This just started on my laptop in the last day or so. Thanks for any suggestions to get rid of this junk !

If you prefer not to see the snippets on the about:home page or otherwise experience problems with a snippet then you can set the <b>browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl</b> pref to an empty string on the <b>about:config</b> page.
Delete the <b>storage\persistent\moz-safe-about+home</b> folder in the Firefox profile folder with Firefox closed ("3-bar" Firefox menu button > Exit/Quit) to remove snippets stored in IndexedDB and make Firefox use a default snippet set.
You can reset the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref via the right-click context menu to the default value to re-enable the snippets and make Firefox recreate the moz-safe-about+home folder.
You need to close and restart Firefox after changing the value of the browser.aboutHomeSnippets.updateUrl pref.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
You can open the <b>about:config</b> page via the location/address bar.
You can accept the warning and click "I'll be careful" to continue.

  • Error message on d-top and laptop--Firefox prevented this page from automatically loading--what do I need to do to fix/stop this from happening?

More often than not, I get the message "Firefox prevented this page from automatically reloading". I click ALLOW and it comes back. I click the X and it goes away and allows the page to reload.
It occurs on my homepage (MSNBC) and a few -- but not all -- of my bookmarked pages.
At times, the message DOES NOT appear but I don't know what I've done to change anything to have it not appear. A couple of days later, the message is back upon loading my homepage.
This is especially annoying when trying to get into my banking website after attempting to log in...sometimes, it doesn't work and other times, after 3 or 4 refreshes, it loads.
Any suggested solutions will be appreciated.

  • Ever since I downloaded the new version a few days ago I get full screen popup ads whenever I try to open a new site. It's INCREDIBLY annoying, and sometimes there is no icon to close them. WHY, why would Firefox allow this?

I don't HAVE any more details. Whenever I open a new site, I get (so far) one of two full screen advertisements. Most of the time there is the word "Skip" in the upper right hand corner, but on occasion that is not there, and there no way to get beyond the ad screen except to go into what they are trying to sell you. It is imposing and obnoxious to the nth. This has only happened since I downloaded the latest version (I think the BETA 4) 3 days ago. If this can not be resolved, I want to go back to the older version.
    Thanks,
    Kathryn

The Firefox pop-up blocker is usually very effective for blocking pop-ups generated by websites, but it sounds like you may have picked up some Malware that is generating those pop-ups from you own PC.
Install, update, and run these programs in this order. They are listed in order of efficacy.<br />'''''(Not all programs detect the same Malware, so you may need to run them all to solve your problem.)''''' <br />These programs are all free for personal use, but some have limited functionality in the "free mode" - but those are features you really don't need to find and remove the problem that you have.<br />

  • The OE New Message box does not open when I click on an email address in Firefox. This is not a problem when I use MS Explorer. How can I fix it?

OE is set as my default email in both Firefox and Windows XP. When I click on an email address on a website within Firefox the OE page comes up but the OE New Message window does not open. When I go to the same webpage using MS Explorer and click on the same email the OE New message does open. Is there a bud in Firefox that prevents the OE New Message from opening? • How can I get the old Firefox back, this new one stinks

how can I get the old Firefox back, this new one stinks

Firefox is highly customizable and you may be able to customize it to meet your needs.
If you do not like the new UI, you can make Firefox 4 look and behave more like Firefox 3.6, for details see http://www.computertechtips.net/64/make-firefox-4-look-like-ff-3-6
To downgrade to Firefox 3.6 first uninstall Firefox 4, but do not select the option to "Remove my Firefox personal data". If you select that option it will delete your bookmarks, passwords and other user data.
You can then install the latest version of Firefox 3.6 available from http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html - it will automatically use your current bookmarks, passwords etc.
To avoid possible problems with downgrading, I recommend going to your profile folder and deleting the following files if they exist - extensions.cache, extensions.rdf, extensions.ini, extensions.sqlite and localstore.rdf. Deleting these files will force Firefox to rebuild the list of installed extensions, checking their compatibility, and reset toolbar customizations.
For details of how to find your profile folder see https://support.mozilla.com/kb/Profiles

Hi everyone, I have Snow Leopard 10.6.8. I have been very very frustrated by this problem. [I could not create new windows, and anything that opens new windows, such as trying to see what Add-ons you have etc would not work]. I read about changing screen alignment to the top... I have one screen so the option does not exist. The above messages would not fix this problem. I searched hard and did find a solution in the end. I read stuff about removing Add-ons until the problem is fixed, but its simply not the case.
First of all open Firefox. next go to options: Help --- 'Restart with Add-ons disabled'. Tick the box for add-ons, restart firefox. Next go to Tools --- Add-ons. Next (In the Add-ons Manager' click on 'Plugins' on the left hand side pane. Look for the small blue writing that says 'Check to see if your plugins are up to date'.
Now notice it should say 'Missing Flash'. "For your safety, Firefox has disabled your outdated version of Flash. Please upgrade to the latest version". I followed this, reinstalled Flash and it now works as it always did, no problems. For people where the above fix didn't work, try this one out. Hope it helps people!

  • How do I turn off the "firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page" dialogue ?

I am a mac user. I tried to access my bank account, but firefox 3.6.8 prevents me by telling me: "firefox prevented this page from automatically redirecting to another page". This is NOT a dialogue which I can click a button. Instead, nothing happens when I type my bank's URL while a small message appears below the URL field bar. I do not have the OPTIONS under the Tools menu (like on Windows version) and my preferences does not give me any option to turn this thing off. Can any one HELP me as I cannot have access to my bank website?
