RoboHelp 9 - Self-authoring Features?

I've developed a number of online Help solutions for a company-internal audience and there have been a few requests to create a more Wiki-like interface/experience where the user base or audience may be able to self-author some of the content (or in the most liberal scenario . . . upload new content).
Other than what RoboHelp Server might provide in the way of commenting, has anyone else had to deal with the burgeoning social technology aspects of their online Help and offered any form of self-authoring to its users.
As it is, we have a separate enterprise-wide Wiki where we're hoping users can engage in discussions and the like, but then look to the published RoboHelp environment for the more vetted and "final" word on relevant user assistance content.
Curious if anyone knows something that might help or perhaps share their own experiences/solutions?
Cheers,
Michael

Hi Kurt
RoboHelp 9? According to my records it was released in July of 2000.
But my guess is that you are asking about the "Adobe RoboHelp 9". Only Adobe can say for sure when it will be released. I do hear occasional whispers that they may be working on a new version.
Even those of us that bear Community Professional near our name find out the same time everyone else does when a product will be released. And we are often caught by surprise with the speed in which it is announced.
Cheers... Rick

  • A question on the self-registration feature

I've managed to get the self-registration feature running. I've set that the user can log on immediately after registering. The question is: how do the portal administrators know if someone has self-registered? Is there any type of alert or e-mail facility that has to be set up?
    Thanks
    Fenella

    Hello,
I successfully implemented a data validation on the self registration form for a field named birth date using Java script.
This method will retrieve the value of the birth date from the form.
    var birthDate = document.getElementById("value(USR_UDF_BIRTH_DATE)").value;
I hope this will help someone one day.

  • Installation of Self-Registration feature- Script Error

    Hi,
I am trying to install the self-registration feature provided by the Portal itself. I am executing the following steps:
    1) Create a schema by the name: portal30_sso_ua
    2) In this schema create a synonym for Login Server SSO schema package wwsso_api_user_admin
    3) Grant the execute privileges using : GRANT EXCEUTE ON PORTAL30_SSO.wwsso_api_user_admin to portal30_sso_ua
    4) In my case both the Login Server and the Portal are in the same DB.
    5) Finally i run the script: selfreg.cmd -s portal30 -p portal30 -ua portal30_sso_ua -c -dblink
Now this script gives the error: "The system cannot find the batch label specified - step1"
Can you please tell me what is the problem ??
    Thanks in advance,
    Karthik

Hi, there are some mistakes in the script - maybe you should find some hints on the forum. I'm not sure, but my script (I've tried selfreg) is:
    REM #########################################################################
REM # Parse and collect parameter settings #
    REM # #
    REM #########################################################################
    set def_portal_schema=PORTAL30
    :step1
    if "%1" == "" goto step2
    2) You should "REM" some comments in the script.
    Maybe this help.

  • HDR App with Self-Timer Feature

Does anyone know of a HDR app that also has a self-timer feature?  A self-timer feature would allow me to get into the photo.  Thanks for any help...

Here are some additional info: I've emailed the developers of Gorilla Cam and following their suggestion I've turned off my iPhone and after restarting it worked ok... for some time. Camera Awesome and Camera+ also works ok after iPhone restart.
I take a lot of photos and it looks like every few hundreds of them I need to restart the phone.

  • RoboHelp 10 WebHelp search feature not working?

    Hi all,
I am using the Adobe Technical Communication Suite 4 and cannot get RoboHelp 10 to generate a WebHelp product with search capabilities.
I have created a RoboHelp 10 WebHelp project and imported FrameMaker 11 files.
Everything seems okay, but when I search in Internet Explorer 10, nothing happens.  I can even be on the same page as a term and enter the term in the box,
but then nothing happenns. I also tried:  Opera, Firefox, Chrome and Safari browsers and still no results in the WebHelp search results.
Actually, I get one word by default and that word is:  "null".
Any idea on what is causing this?  I have a deliverable due soon, and I need to get this search capability working.
Thanks in advance for your suggestions.
I am using the latest patch too - RoboHelp 10.0.0.287
    Regards,
    Jim

    Hi Jeff,
Thanks for the reply.  I am not sure if it is Java, although I did download Java to make sure I had the latest update.  I am running on a Windows 7 64 Bit Dell Laptop with Adobe TCS 4.
I just saw a different post - but related to this post on the topic and I think it has to do something with the XML files that are created during the normal generation process.
I have a feeling that there is something wrong with my XML files and the reason I say that is because I can generate one of the sample RoboHelp projects to WebHelp and then use IE 10 to search and the results
come up right away, but when I do a WebHelp generate on my project the search does not work.
    Here is that related thread:
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/798369
Search Error: Failed to initialize database
    Mar 1, 2011 12:33 PM
That thread dealt with RoboHelp 8 and I am using RoboHelp 10, but I think the problem is probably the same.
    My questions are as follows:
I have a customer deliverable on Monday with several hundred files and a search mechanism that does not work at all.  Can I copy the search mechanism from the sample project and then put it into my project?
Are the XML files generic or specific to each project?
How many XML, Javascript and other RoboHelp type files are used to make the search functionality work?  I was thinking of populating one of those sample files, that has already been started with my files to see if that would get things going in the right direction - with the idea of removing all the sample files from that project and replacing them with my files, but, I have over 400 files, including references to foldout drawings and vendor manuals (baggage files) and it would probably take too much time to make that happen.
With that said, if you or anyone else has ideas on how I could get this search engine working, I would really, really appreciate it.
My current file structure is like this:
    Main Project Folder
        !ScreenLayout
        My Project File1
        My Project File2
        My Project File3
        resource
        whdata
        whgdata
        whxdata
        Frnt_Cov.htm
        Frnt_Cov_csh.htm
        Frnt_Cov_rhc.htm
All RoboHelp graphics, javascripts and .htm files
There does NOT seem to these folders that are in the sample:
    !Language!
    !SkinSubFolder!
    !SSL!
The !ScreenLayout! folder is the only one present.  Does this have anything to do with only having MultiScreen HTML5 and WebHelp (Primary Layout) for my project settings?
Again the most notable difference I see, is between the folders NOT included in my project (!Language!, !SkinSubFolder! and !SSL!).  I am not sure why these folders are not included in WebHelp.
Thanks for taking the time to read this, as well as for any suggestions that can be offered.  I really need to get the search feature working by tomorrow.
    Regards,
    Jim

  • How To Use RoboHelp 7 Self-paced Book

I have been asked to create RoboHelp HTML and RoboHelp Word
projects for networking software. The topics are done in MS Word. I
have always used FrameMaker and Webworks for online help but these
are not an option since the topics source files have to stay in
Word. Can anyone recommend a useful self-paced book that can get me

  • Self Registration feature

    Hi:
I would like to know how to make a custom self-registration page.
I would like to make this page according to our lenguages.
Our quetion if it's the login feature will continue working with not default registration page?
    Any tip will be apreciated.
    Thanks

You should create a separate schema. The script selfreg.csh uses <sso_schema_name>UA as the default name for this schema. For example if the name of the sso schema is PORTALSSO, then the default name for this schema is PORTAL_SSO_UA, although you may choose to use a different name. The purpose of having this schema is to allow limited access to users from the browser while protecting the rest of the objects in the SSO schema. Let us call it the SSO_UA schema.
After you have created the SSO_UA schema, you have to create a synonym called wwsso_api_user_admin in this schema for the package wwsso_api_user_admin that exists in the SSO schema and you also have to grant execute privilege on SSO.wwsso_api_user_admin to SSO_UA.
Now you should be able to install self-registration. Next, you have to enable it from the Global Settings page. This will result in showing a self-registration link when users use the login portlet for logging in to the Portal.

  • Help using Self-registration feature in 9.0.2

I have set up self-registration, selected Approval Required & then Configured it. As a member of a group that I created I cannot reject a users request to create their own account. I can do this successfully as the 'portal' user. My error is the following:
    (WWS-00000)
Unexpected error encountered in wwsec_oid.delete_entry (50: Insufficient access) (WWC-41417)
What privileges do I need to add to my group so that I can accept or reject users requests? Thanks!

It seems that you are trying to deploy JPDKv2 portlets on Apache which is fundamentally wrong. Portlets developed using JPDKv1 are deployed on Apache
while those developed using JPDKv2 are deployed on OC4J.
You can dowload the latest JPDKv2 from
http://otn.oracle.com/software/htdocs/devlic.html?http://download.oracle.com/otn/other/PDK.zip The downloaded pdk.zip contains full details of deploying portlets developed using JPDKv2.
If you want to leverage the Apache infrastructure, you will need to make ur Portlet JPDKv1 compatible & then deploy it
    on Apache. You can visit
http://portalstudio.oracle.com/servlet/page?_pageid=2743&_dad=ops&_schema=OPSTUDIO It contains articles that should help you get started with JPDKv1.

  • Missing SMTP address and SELF AUTHORITY for a few mail boxes

    Hello Everyone,
This is Jay. I am seeing a strange thing in exchange 2010. Primary SMTP addresses are missing from the User mailboxes.
    Below is the required information.
       *  We are creating user mailboxes through CA Identity Manager tool.
It happens randomly for a few mailboxes sometimes.
I have checked the logs on exchange server but NOTHING FOUND related.
Any help would be highly appreciated.
    Thanks in Advance.
    Regards,
      Jay.

Sometimes when a 3rd party solution is used to create a user and its associated mailbox, all of the processes are not run.  In those scenarios, it is common to setup reporting to identify if there are any mail-enabled objects that are not properly configured
or if processing has not completed.
I agree that  the Automatically update...checkbox should be checked for most configurations.  If it is not, that might explain why there is no primary reply address listed.

  • ITunes 8 Self mute feature?

Is there some circumstance under which iTunes will now mute itself automatically? I normally leave iTunes running all the time. At random times, I'll go to play a song and find that the iTunes volume has been moved all the way down.
    Thanks,

I'm still having this problem in iTunes 8.0.2. Anyone else have it or found a solution?

  • RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features

I looked at some online training that had a really nice glossary feature.  I'm trying to figure out if Robohelp is what I need to accomplish something like this since it claims to have such great glossary, Index, and TOC features.  However,  I can't find a demo developed in Robohelp showing what these features are capable of.  Does anyone know of any demonstrations that I could view to see if this is what I'm looking for before I purchase?

No, I actually don't have anything yet.  I considered downloading the trial version, but I didn't want to spend the time to learn the software if it didn't have what I needed.
I see from your site that it is what I'm looking, and thank you so much for sending me that link.  Now I know, buying RoboHelp and learning it won't be a waste of time and money.

Subject: RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features
    Hi, Melbert2000
It's not clear whether you already use RoboHelp or have installed the trial version as part of your evaluation. Assuming you have, each release of RoboHelp comes with sample projects to help explore features. For example, Adobe RoboHelp 8 comes with a project called Web Graphics.
One quick way to see the TOC/Index/Glossary in action would be on my site, called Clownfish School.
    http://www.showmethedemo.com/clownfish_school/
You will notice the Glossary is visible in two ways. First, as a Glossary button which shows in the Navigation pane. Second is in the form or expanding hotspots within topic text. You can see some examples if you go to the topic "News from Thailand and Greece" Click on the maroon color words "Anemonefish" and "Clownfish" and you will see how the Glossary hotspots show or hide as you click on them.
As part of your purchase evaluation, I would recommend you download the Adobe RoboHelp Reviewer's Guide here to get a better idea of the various features:
    https://acrobat.com/#d=5bE00menRN24n8TzSel0Iw
And the Web Graphics Sample project can be downloaded here:

  • Must both authors have the same RoboHelp release version?

A department is our company that uses RoboHelp is designating an employee as the backup for the primary author.  The backup will update files when the primary is not at work.  The primary has RoboHelp version 9.  The backup intended to use version 9 also, but it seems that version 10 is all that is available from Adobe.  Our company has a licensing arrangement.
Will files created in RoboHelp version 9 be compatible with files used in RoboHelp version 10 and vice versa?  Must both authors have the same version of RoboHelp?  The authors will be using RoboSource Control to check files in and out.
    Thanks,
    Holly

    Hi,
Yes both authors need the same RoboHelp version. Some resellers might still have copies of RH9 available though.

  • FrameMaker or RoboHelp

I'll need output for compiled HTML (.chm) and web help and
printed .pdf manuals. It appears this could be done either by
authoring directly in RoboHelp or by authoring in FrameMaker then
importing to RoboHelp. What are the advantages to authoring in FM?
Wouldn't it be simpler just to author directly in RH? Since I'm
already familiar with RH I'm leaning that direction, but this will
be a new project so I could start from a clean slate using another
    tool.

This is a difficult question for anyone to answer without
knowing your exact requirements. RH has some nifty authoring
gadgets (e.g. hotspots, DHMTL, etc.) that you can't have in FM.
Similarly there are features in FM that are not in RH.
I think the answer will boil down to who will be doing the
editing and what tool they are most familiar with. If the answer to
that second question is RH, I'd probably plump for that as there
would be less pontential for additional integration work. However
it does depend on other factors.

  • ISE 1.2 SMS Notification for Self Service Guests

Is there a way to have guest account credentials created through using the Self Service feature sent via SMS text?  I have read where this can be setup via the sponsor portal, but I have not seen much about self service option
Also, is there an SMS gateway that can be setup easily for testing this funcionailty?  Thanks.

ISE 1.2 does not support sending credentials to Self Service Guests via SMS message.
This feature, sending credentials to Self Service Guests via SMS message and email, will be in version 1.3.  This release is tentatively scheduled for the end of July 2014.

  • WLS 10.3 - Self Registration with External LDAP Fails (somewhat)

I have a WLS 10.3.5 instance with WebCenter Spaces.
I've added an OpenLDAP provider to the security realm, set the OpenLDAP provider and the default authenticator to "sufficient", and reordered the providers in the console to list the OpenLDAP provider first. I've also set "virtualize=true" via the enterprise manager interface, and added the <extendedProperty> attributes for "user.create.bases" and "group.create.bases" in the jps-config.xml file
Using the self registration feature in Spaces, I fill in a proposed new user name, and select "check availability". The check returns "available".
I finish the registration, and submit. I receive the following error, and the registration page remains on the screen:
"User not created. Either the user name or the password does not adhere to the registration policy or the identity store is unavailable. Specify the required user credentials or contact your administrator for assistance." NO ERROR in the Spaces logs.
But I look in OpenLDAP, and lo and behold, the user DID get created.
So remember I still haven't left the registration page. Clicking the "check availability" button still returns "available".
Now clicking the submit button throws the following message:
"A user with the name <insert name entered previously in the "failed" registration> already exists. Choose another name."
The following error is logged in the Spaces log:
