Robohelp decompile problem
Greetings:
I haven't been on the forum for a while, but I have a real
problem. I inadvertently deleted some components of my original
Robohelp data directory, so I followed the (excellent) instructions
posted here regarding the use of the Keytools.exe pgm to decompile
the chm file. This has worked for me in the past.
Today, however, I find that, although the decompile works
fine, the next steps fail -
Open Robohelp HTML from the selection of pgms within Robohelp
X5.
Select New Project
Click the Import tab
Select MS-HTML Help project; OK
Select the HHP file that keytools created; Open it.
when I attempt to open the Helpfile.hhp file, a msg appears -
'unable to create database - check that the directory is not
read-only'
the file folder is indeed marked 'read-only', but every time
I uncheck it, the change is 'ignored'.
I have never seen an instance in Windows XP where this
happened before.
Needless to say, I can't successfully recreate my Robohelp
data files, at this point.
Has anyone else seen this?
thanx for your help!

Peter: Thanks for the excellent reference material - each
method seems to successfully retrieve the data topics, but
unfortunately I get the same error msg upon opening the HHP file:
'unable to create database - check that the directory is not
read-only'
I have searched the forum, and one possible answer seemed to
be, 'reinstall Robohelp', but I don't have access to the original
install disks, so I really wanted to avoid that if possible.
Any other suggestions would be appreciated.
In the meantime, I will continue looking for those install
disks....

RoboHelp 10: Problems generating Printed Documentation
Environment
Windows 7 Enterprise, Service Pack 1, 64-bit operating system
Office Professional Plus 2010 Versions 14.0.7106.5001 (64-bit)
RoboHelp 10: 10.0.0.287
Visual Studio 2010 Professional. I open RoboHelp from within Source Control (have been doing it for two years).
Problem
Sometime after moving to RoboHelp 10, and even after successfully generating Printed Documentation output, I encountered a major problem generating Printed Documentation from RoboHelp: “Internal error encountered. Failed to generated Printed Documentation”. The error occurred when I tried to generate Printed Doc using my default TOC, which looks something like this:
Topic A
Topic B
Book 1
Book 2
Book 3
Topic C
Topic D
Based on an old Peter Grainge reply to someone about a similar problem, I removed all but the first topic from the Chapter Layout pane and generated the Help. Everything was fine until I got to the topics after Book 3. At that point everything started to fail again. When I removed Topics C, D, etc. from the Chapter Layout pane, the output was built successfully.
I tried moving Topics C, D, etc. to the top of the Chapter Layout pane, and got the same error. I tried creating a new folder and put Topics C, D, etc. into that folder. Failure after failure.
As an experiment, I removed all the Topics C, D, etc from the Chapter Layout pane, but then added them to the Print Document Section Layout pane (not where I want them). The Printed Documentation built successfully.
During attempts to build with Topics C, D, etc. in the Chapter Layout pane, I kept getting a Word error: Word is trying to recover your information. After that there was always a failure.
Selecting PDF as the output did not work when the Topic C, D, etc. files were at the bottom of the Chapter Layout pane.
I create a new TOC and a new Printed Documentation SSL. Failed to generate.
As a matter of reference, I've been generating Printed Documentation from the same TOC for more than a year and so cannot figure out what has changed in RoboHelp or Word to cause this grief .
Has anyone experienced anything like this?
CarolDear Peter,
Thanks for following up. Last Friday I finished extensive testing on my own and working with RoboHelp Support. Here's what I sent to Support this morning.
If after reading this screed, you think it worthwhile for me to get a copy from Source Control for you to look at, I will do so. Thanks for offering to look at it.
Environment
Windows 7 Enterprise Service Pack 1, 8.00 GB RAM, 64-bit OS
Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010 Version 14.0.7106.5003 64-bit--Note: We repaired my current version of Word, in case that was the problem, but did not reinstall Office--we do not think that the Word version is the problem because we generated successfully with other TOCs and when generating individual documents.
RoboHelp 10.0.1.292. Upgraded from RoboHelp 9 in May 2013. Replaced hard drive in September 2013 and reinstalled RoboHelp.
Visual Studio 2010 Professional 10.0.40219.1 SP1Rel (I open the project from Source Control and check files out to a folder on my desktop.)
Issue
Printed Documentation failed multiple times with the default Table of Contents, which contains all the topics in the project. TOC specs are as follows:
Properties: .docx, desktop location, no conditions, embedded images, “Generate a single document”, “Retain hyperlinks”.
330 files, 12 top-level books, 15 second-level books, 7 third-level books, 6 fourth-level books, and 8 fifth-level books
Results
Generation to Printed Documentation does NOT fail for other, module-specific TOCs, nor to WebHelp Pro SSLs for the same sets of topics. In addition, and perhaps more important, generation to Printed Documentation does NOT fail with “Generate Individual Documents” selected, or when there are approximately fewer than 259 files in the TOC.
Did not fail consistently based on any particular topic.
Did not fail consistently based on location of any particular topic in the TOC.
Failed when I created new TOCs based on ‘working’ TOCs. For example, copied a module-specific TOC and then added topics to it from the default (superset) TOC. I did this in case the original default TOC was corrupted.
Failed when I create a new TOC with the same folder/file structure from scratch.
Failed when I created a new TOC with a flat file structure from scratch.
Failed when I retrieved an older TOC from the last release of the product.
Failed when I created new SSLs each time. I did this in case the SSLs had got corrupted.
Failed when I did not open the project from Source Control (removed project from Source Control and worked locally).
Began to see failure when there were more than about 258-263 files in the TOC. For example, successfully generated Printed Documentation with 262 files in the TOC. Added one topic and the generation failed. Removed that topic and added several others, one at a time. Consistently failed. To test this, I created a TOC with all the files in a flat structure, generated a report for the TOC, printed it, and counted the number of files. I then began deleting files and regenerating the Printed Document to try to identify the number of files in the TOC when the generation failed. Successfully generated up to about 258 files and then it began failing. (Occasional successes at 260 and 261, but that may be because I didn’t always consistently remove the Glossary and Index from the Chapter Layout pane.)
Other Comments
(I know that we should generally post non-RH issues to other forums, but in this case I wanted to include all potentially related issues in this posting.)
The first time you generate any type of output, the “Critical error of Source Control Provider. Please restart IDE.” Message appears. This message appears behind RoboHelp. As a result, if the RoboHelp window is maximized, you think that RoboHelp is hung. Forcing a close of RoboHelp leaves the partially generated Word document in an unstable state. When you re-open RoboHelp and try to generate the output again, RoboHelp says that the output is in use. Unfortunately, there is no way to ‘free’ the Word document and you have to restart the computer. In addition, when the dialog box is hidden, even using Alt+Tab to find the dialog box is complicated because you can’t grab it and click OK until RoboHelp completes its processing. The workaround is to reduce the size of the application window so that you can see the dialog box and try to quickly grab it and click OK. That said, as soon as processing is complete you can grab the dialog box and click OK; at that point RoboHelp displays its own error message about the success or failure of the output generation. It is not clear whether the RoboHelp API or Source Control puts up this error message, but it’s definitely a problem until you happen upon the workaround.
RoboHelp does not check SSLs even when I right-click the SSL in the Single Source Layouts pane, click Check In, select the XML and SSL files, and leave “Keep checked out” deselected. The red check mark remains next to the SSL name. In addition, even when I Check In All files before closing the project, the next time I open the project RoboHelp displays a series of Check In dialog boxes requiring me to check them in again.
When RoboHelp hangs during a Printed Documentation failure and the Version Control setting is to check in all files when closing a project (which I’ve now deselected to avoid this problem), Ctrl+Alt+Del indicates that you cannot shut down the program because RoboHelp is waiting for a response. Yes, RoboHelp was waiting for me to check in some files (because of the Version Control setting), but hid the Check In Source Files dialog box behind the application. This usually left a Word document in limbo, forcing me to restart the computer.
At one point RoboHelp stopped saving changes to an SSL after I made changes and clicked Save and Generate. Each time I reopened the SSL, I had to select .docx, etc. all over again.

Decompiler problem of java class..its urgent. Please help
When trying to open a class through Java Decompiler, error message "jad.exe has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for inconvenience." is shown. The class file (when compiled through build ANT set-up) is getting corrupted for uknown reasons. However, when the same source is compiled through Jdev, the classfile is perfectly ok.
Note: Both the JDev and Build env are pointing to same jdk version (1.4.2)did you try to investigate the differences in the configurations for the ant build and the one with jdev?

Okay, i just dished out $1000 for this thing and can't even
create an HTML project. The sample projects won't even open and
i've confirmed they exist.
Details:
installed RoboHelp 6. When i run RoboHelp HTML, and try to
open one of the sample projects, i get the following dialog:
Open project was cancelled or the application was unable to
load database for :
"C:\program files\adobe\robohelp
6.0\RoboHTML\Samples\ApplicationHelp\applicationhelp.cpd"
I navigate to the path above and confirm the path is correct
and the applicationhelp.cpd exists. So i press OK at the dialog,
and just try to create my own project. It only gets worse.
I perform the following steps:
1-In RoboHelp HTML, go to File/New/Project.
2- the "New Project" dialog opens
3-select WebHelp and click OK.
4-the "New Project Wizard" dialog opens
5-I enter a title and select a path "C"\RoboHelp6\Project1"
6-I click "Finish". The New Project Wizard closes and returns
me back to the "New Project" dialog.
7-(hmmm...must have done something wrong i think)
8-In the New Project dialog, i click OK.
9-I'm now taken back to the "New Project Wizard" dialog.
10-i repeat the same steps - entering Project1 as and
C:\RoboHelp6\Project1 as the path
11-i click Finish and get error:
Unable to creat enw project. Specified folder is not empty.
12-My only option to leave the "New Project" dialog box is to
click Cancel
13-i click cancel
14-i look in the folder and have the following files:
!SkinSubFolder!
HtmlHelp.css
project1.cpd
project1.hpr
project1.syn
default.css
MS_Help.css
project1.glo
project1.ppf
w95help.css
Where's the project file? When i go to open a new project and
select the directory no .xpj or mgj files are listed!!! Anybody
know what i'm doing wrong?
BTW: i uninstalled and re-installed the product 4 times now.
Still can create an HTML project.
PLEASE HELP!!!!Just to clarify, these forums are mostly supported by other
RoboHelp users rather than Adobe employees. The Community Expert is
simply a recognition by Adobe of the work I do in these forums, I
am not employed by them. I mention this as you ask Adobe not to
require you to wipe your hard disk. Actually you will need to wipe
the entire network to fix this one. OK, I'm lying.
It does sound like X5 has left something behind and that does
sometimes happen. First uninstall RH6. I am not sure what effect
installing it on a virtual machine will have had so fingers crossed
there. (Uninstall both instances though). Then go to my site and
see the instructions there for Installing. They cover some extra
steps that are sometimes needed. Try those which involve some
registry edits so usual warnings about backing up etc.
After you have done that, reinstall RH6 and then everything
should be OK.
Let us know how that goes. -
When I delete files from robohelp and from the server where I publish my robohelp files too, they tend to reappear the next time that I publish. So in essence, I am unable to remove any files...Please help...
Hi there
The act of publishing never removes files. All it ever does is adds new files and replaces existing files.
If you need files removed, that's a manual process you must perform separately.
Cheers... Rick

I had RoboHelp 8.0 installed in my machine initially, which had crashed a few weeks back. Eventually the administrators got both RoboHelp 8.0 and 9.0 in the same machine. On my request the 9.0 version was removed, but as soon as a source file was opened I was getting a weird message " This project is from a newer version of the program. This project is no longer compatible with this version. Please make sure you have the newest version installed."
Can somebody provide me with a solution.Hi Subarna,
Welcome to Adobe Forum.
If your getting this error message, please check the Adobe Robohelp HTML version, if it is Robohelp 8.0.0, then update it to Robohelp 8.0.2 then try and open your project. Also you need to make sure that you didn't open your project in Robohelp 9 because backward compatiblity is not possible, only way to open the project in Robohelp 8 by renaming or deleting the CPD. But first try these steps and see if that works.
Here is link to download the Updates.

Hope this helps.
Thank you,

RoboHelp 9 - problem with merged TOC and index
Using RoboHelp v9.0.0.228 I have a master project which contains several merged TOCs and indexes for other CHMs. This has worked successfully for years, but has now stopped working in our translated CHMs. I have checked all the relevant settings and they appear to be correct. The English version still works correctly. Can you help please? Many thanks.
OK, so my post was just a summary really!
I have a main project with its own TOC, index and topics. I then have several other projects with their own TOCs, indexes and topics, and these are merged into the master TOC. In all these projects, we use the indexes to contain function ids for our software, so that when you press F1 in a software function, it invokes the correct Help topic in the CHM. The software is coded so that it goes to the main project first, and then looks in the merged index to find the link to the Help topic.
In the individual sub projects, the TOCs and indexes are present and work correctly. Also, in the master project, the TOC and index works correctly in the original English version. However, even though the TOCs, indexes and topics are all present and correct in the translated versions (Russian, for example) the index in the master project does not contain the entries for the sub projects. The TOCs for the sub projects do, however, work correctly. -
RoboHelp 9 - Problems generating WebHelp
Hello!
I'm using RoboHelp 9. When I try to generate Primary Layout (WebHelp), my books and topics don't display. The Contents, Index, Search, and Glossary do (even though nothing happens when you click them), but the rest of the screen is blank. I have included a screenshot.
Does anyone know what could be wrong? It worked a few weeks ago when I last generated it, and I don't think I've made any changes... so I am at a total loss. There is detailed information in Item 2 at http://www.grainge.org/pages/snippets/snippets.htm#browsers

We made a program that keeps the record of high scores. Unfortunately, the jar file could be easily decoded and and class files decompiled which allows users to easily spoof the high score. Is there any way to prevent this from hapenning? If not, how do companies write secure programs in java? It decompilation is unpreventable, it makes somewhat useless. You can only write program for your own use.

way to prevent this from hapenning? You can obfuscate the code. Google for java obfuscator. Note that this doesn't make decompilation impossible, only inconvenient, and it can break certain things that rely on reflection.
If not, how do
companies write secure programs in java? A combination of obfuscation and legal protection I assume, or, if it's absolutely critical not to have the program's algorithms exposed, by running entirely on the server side.

One can decompile programs regardless of what language they're written in. If it's running on my machine, you can't make decompilation impossible, only inconvenient.
You need to take a realistic view: How likely is it that someone will actually decompile and alter your program, and what is the actual damage if that happens?
Also, when you say "keeps the record of high scores. Unfortunately, the jar file could be easily decoded and and class files decompiled which allows users to easily spoof the high score," what do you mean? Are you talking about someone getting access to data or to code? -
Problems using TFS 2008 with RoboHelp 11?
Adobe has not been able to resolve our company's connection problem with SharePoint thus far.
We do know that we can use TFS 2008 with RoboHelp because they have done that in the past. We are on RH11.
We need to know...Has anyone experienced any problems with using TFS 2008 with RH11? If so, what kind of problem(s)?I've used TFS 2008/2010/2012 with RoboHelp without problems so far. You will always get the check in dialog, but that is the way it works, not a problem. This will become annoying when you are relocating lots of topics, since you will have to check in files a lot during these operations. But otherwise it works perfect in my experience.
As long as you make sure you have the 32 bit MSSCCI provider for the correct TFS version (MSSCCI 2008 for TFS 2008), you should be fine. -
I am trying to decide between upgrading Framemaker 8 to FM 10 or migrating to Madcap Flare. I need to produce both print and web outputs and most of the documents are structured. I have lots of legacy FM files.
I downloaded and installed Flare without problems but found that it does not have runin paragraph styles and some of the FM features that allow styles to cross columns.
I tried to install FM but got error messages. I downloaded the Adobe installer diagnostic tool and it said there were conflicting programs to the FM installation but was not specific on what they were. Basically I went down the same route and had the same problems as mentioned in a similar post about Robohelp installation problems:http://forums.adobe.com/message/3422315
Unlike Madcap, Adobe support is pretty difficult to contact and it has taken literally days to fix problems with other adobe programs.
I am using a 2011 Macbook Pro using Bootcamp Win 7 64 bit home version. I also have parallels installed and can run FM 8 on either system. Acrobat Pro X is installed.
Here is the error log (edited to remove redundant line breaks):

Error in compilation of decompiled code (class$java$lang$Boolean )
hi all
i used jad 1.5.8 to decompile the CashAndOtherCO class ,now when trying agian to decompile the same it is throwing errors for the lines .
if(class$java$lang$Boolean == null)
class$java$lang$Boolean = _mthclass$("java.lang.Boolean");
i have tried with
if(class.java.lang.Boolean == null)
class.java.lang.Boolean = _mthclass("java.lang.Boolean");
but it wont work ,,your valuable suggestions are welcome
thanx in advance
PratapIt looks like decompilation problem.
look for any missing code logic.otherwise just comment the code.
Seeded code would have checked like
if(someBooleanObj == null)
someBooleanObj = new Boolean(false);

Importing a FrameMaker book: a graphics problem
Hello poor Robohelp users ;-) I couldn't image that such a
seemingly trivial action as importing FrameMaker files into
Robohelp could be such a headache. I am using the latest version of
both products. When I import a FrameMaker book into Robohelp, the
following problem arises: pictures appear with a large left margin,
and what is more disturbing is that they can appear under the body
text itself (as a background). In addition, figure captions appear
above the figures instead of under them. Note that in the previous
version of Robohelp, such problem did not arise. Any ideas, boys
and girls? :-)
Thank you all in advance!
NancyHi Nancy,
You don't mention what your settings are for your graphic
frames.
You may be able to solve some problems by resetting those.
For instance, if you are using Alignment: Center, you will
get a large left margin.
Try using Alignment: Left, and in the anchored frame itself,
add just the margin you want. (Make the anchored frame roomy enough
to include your margin.)
In my project, my FM anchored frame settings are:
Anchoring Position: Below Current Line
Alignment: Left
Width: 6.5
Height: adjusted per graphic
That works well for me.
As for your figure caption problems, how about some info
about your paragraph tag settings?
Hint: use a special tag devoted solely to hang your anchored
frames from, like, maybe "anchor graphic".
Don't attach your anchored frame to your figure
titles. -
Is it possible to put the java classes of an application and run?
Hi All,
Please excuse me if this question seems meaningless / laughable.
We get java class files by compiling the source code with java compiler. To run the application, classpath can be set to the folder where the class files are stored and then run the main class.
Now the question is, is it possible to read the class files to RAM and then run the application. I highly appreciate your help.
Thanks in advance.
ChinnaswamyYou could
1.) copy the class files to a ramdisk
2.) write another class loader that deletes the class files after loading >them from ram
but all of this is probably not necessary.
What exactly would you like to achieve by doing this? Thanks, JoachimSauer.
The idea I have in mind is to first read and store the java class files in C/C++ code and then while running the C/C++ code, read & put the java classes into RAM and run the java application.
This way the decompilation problem can be alleviated for valuable java applications. ( I am not sure, this will work)
Another reason could be speed improvement. Classes in RAM is expected to make the application to run faster than when class files are in hadr disk
With regards

Framemaker 10 trail install failure
I am trying to decide between upgrading Framemaker 8 to FM 10 or migrating to Madcap Flare. I need to produce both print and web outputs and most of the documents are structured. I have lots of legacy FM files.
I downloaded and installed Flare without problems but found that it does not have runin paragraph styles and some of the FM features that allow styles to cross columns.
I tried to install FM but got error messages. I downloaded the Adobe installer diagnostic tool and it said there were conflicting programs to the FM installation but was not specific on what they were. Basically I went down the same route and had the same problems as mentioned in a similar post about Robohelp installation problems: http://forums.adobe.com/message/3422315

I tried using the two downloaded files to create a directory other than on the desktop as well (mentioned on another post) without success. I completely uninstalled FM 10 including prefs using the add/remove programs in the control panel. I rebooted. I went into the payload directory and removed and reinstalled all the microsoft items (for what it is worth, there were four VC80 and three VC90 files and they were all msi, not exe files). I tried reinstalling FM 10 and got the following error:

I am assuming from the above error that the primary problem is the language pack from FM 8. I share the reservations listed on this forum about messing with FM 8 and losing the license or functions by installing a trial. So it looks like (unlike previous versions of FM), this trial cannot be installed on my computer unless I am willing to remove FM 8.
