RoboHelp for Word: The Help file opens a blank page

Hello,
The Help files were working fine all these days. Today when i
click on the help on the webpage, it shows a blank page. I am using
RoboHelp for Word X5. I do not get any error message on the screen.
I can just see the progress bar just blinking and also our website
link which says transferring. None of my help files on the live
applications are working
Please help.
Regards
Chandrika

That link works for me in IE and FF so I think we can rule
out your output.
If the problem is the call, anyone who accesses it via the
link you gave me should be OK and only see the problem when the
help is called via the application.
If the problem is the help, anyone will see it, no matter how
they access the help.
I think both can be ruled out as they do not fit what you
describe. I would therefore be inclined to forget the RH8 idea.
You said
"The clients are having the same problem again. It seems that
the help page keeps refreshing again and again in their systems.
When i checked it at office network, the systems that are connected
through proxy are giving the problem. The other systems which are
not connected through proxy are working fine."
This is consistent but it is something IT will have to
resolve.

  • Folders disappear during reinstallation of RoboHelp for Word 7

I am using RoboHelp for Word (7).
I recently got a new laptop. Afrer reinstalling RoboHelp for Word 7, I tried opening an existing project file but couldn't find the .hpj file.  Upon closer inspection of the project folder I found that all project subfolders disappeared.  All that is left is the root directory and .doc and .rtf files.  What am I doing wrong?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated!

I don't use RoboHelp for Word any more but if you don't have the HPJ file, I would not be surprised by what you see.
I can't see how the reinstall would affect the project though.

  • RoboHelp for Word 8.0 - can't open a pdf file from help topic

running RoboHelp for Word 8.0 on a Windows 7 machine. I produce WinHelp for one of our clients.
I just converted an old online help system from RoboHelp 7 to RoboHelp 8.
one of my topics has a button to launch a pdf file
    {button Transport Feature Chart, EF(`GFC.pdf', `', 1, `')}
I can generate the hlp file, launch the help and open the topic but cannot open the pdf file when I click on the button.
    any ideas?

I've just tried this in RH8 and have discovered that the EF macro only seems to work with certain file types. For example, .TXT and .LOG files do work whilst .PDF and .DOC don't. I'm beginning to wonder if there has been something that has changed between RH7 and RH8 along security lines? Just added my 2p as I haven't used WinHelp for over 10 years!

Well, first, just make sure it's the Mac version and not the Windows version (which indeed would not run on your Mac). You say "Windows Office" which is why I mention it. I think you probably just mean "Microsoft Office" though.
Next, is this on a disk (DVD), or did you purchase and download it from the Microsoft site?

  • RoboHelp for Word cannot open Word with Word 2007

Thanks for your leignancy, I'm having trouble even starting
to work with RoboHelp. I think I need detailed explanations. I did
spend hours sifting through Robohelp's Help and this Forum, I'm
    stuck.
    I am trying to use
RoboHelp for Word 7.0 , build 001, with Word 2007 on Vista.
I need to work on help projects created with a previous
    version of RoboHelp.
For some reason, when I open RoboHelp, the .doc file opens in
Word next to it, but then RoboHelp freezes for several minutes,
then I get a dialog box that says
"RoboHelp" could not open Word .
Then anytime I try to modify a topic in my help file, I get
the same stall and error message, and my Word document stays stuck
at the beginning on my first topic.
    Also, in Word,
all Robohelp options don't work. I can't search for a topic
for instance to locate it and modify it. When I click on search for
a topic from the menu on top, nothing happens at all. If I click on
search a topic from the right-click menu, then I get a message that
because of security or confidentiality settings, the
    Macros don't work.
I tried re-activating all Macros in Word 2007 Options, I
closed everything, even re-booted the computer, but to no avail.
Also, I tried saving my .doc into a .docx (Word 2007 format)
to see if the Macros would be compatible then, but I got the exact
    same results.
Right now, RoboHelp and Word don't seem to be "talking" to
each other right, and the Macros don't work.
Plus: I tried to test a modification I made in the .doc file
by generating the WebHelp, but that didn't work either, I got an
error message saying that the file couldn't be opened, but the path
to the file was all wrong, with folder names I don't even have on
    my computer.
If someone could figure this one out for me, I'd be very
thankful, I'm the kind of person who likes something to work in a
simple, linear way, 1-2-3... This is totally confusing for me right
    now.

Ok, isn't that what I did when I re-activated the Macros in
    Word 2007?
Word Options / security - confidentiality center / Parameters
Activate all Macros (the lowest one on the list)
Did that already. Also, I made backups of my projects, and
tried with a new "brew" just in case I had messed it up along the
    way somewhere.
First thing I did when I opened it again was change the
output to WebHelp instead of WinHelp 4, since I can't open that in
    Vista anymore.
I can generate the help in that format, but either way I try
to make any modification it's not taken into account when I
    generate it.
    Example:
In the french help project which I'm working on, I had a
    tittle that was miss-spelled.
I tried modifying in in the Word .doc document, then generate
the help, but the title was still wrong.
So I tried changing in directly in Robohelp with the topic's
    properties.
When I clicked OK, it stalled forever again, and then it said
it couldn't take the modifications into account.
And any text I cut and paste or changed in the .doc on Word
    remains unchanged in the WebHelp....
Right now, the more I try, the more I'm stuck and the more
questions I get. I'm seriously thinking I'd need some live
coaching, on a chat or something, to get me started on the right
track. Is there anyone who can do that? I'm so awfully stuck right
now. And I feel like I'd unfurl a tsunami of ridiculous questions
if I posted them all on the Forum now...
    *EXTRA*
I did all the updates (7.0.3) and right now I'm re-installing
    everything.
    Arghhh.
I missed one of the last days of ski this season, spent my
    whole week-end with this.
I'm trying to sound rational and calm, but I'm actually so
tired and exasperated, I'd have jumped through the window already
if we weren't on the first floor... Still stuck at Step 1...
    What am I missing??

  • RoboHelp  for Word 7 is not saving the rtf and won't compile .hlp

I use RoboHelp for Word 7 to produce WinHelp files. It's been working fine for several months on this computer.
Just in the past week, I had an issue with my Word 2007 when trying to open a .doc file. I got the message that the converter nswrd632.wpc wasn't found. After searching on the Microsoft forums, I edited the registry and registered that converter.
But now (and this may be unconnected to the Word converter message) RH won't save the .docx or .rtf file. Whenever I click Save All, nothing happens. When I click Exit Project, the message comes up about needing to save the files, and I click Yes to All. Nothing happens except the message closing. No files are saved and RH does not exit. The only way I can exit RH is to click No, which of course means my changes aren't saved. I can't save the .docx file through the Word menu, either.
I also cannot compile the file. Again, no error message, just doesn't compile.
I have searched the forums for RH for Word, with the result that I've reinstalled RH, made sure the RH add-ins are enabled, and deleted all the .dot files. Nothing is working. I went to Peter Grainge's Snippet 112 and followed the directions there--no change.
I have found that after making my edits in the Word document, if I manually save the RTF file by going to the Word Save As directory, the edits will be saved and RH will compile the .hlp file - one time.
    Any ideas?

Hi, I have a nearly identical problem, except my project uses .doc files instead of .rtf files. I was able to solve the "cannot save" problem by following the information below. I still have not resolved the "cannot compile" problem.
I'm using Windows XP, RH7 Build 100, Office 2007. My project was created using Office 2003 and I did not experience any of these issues until I recently upgraded to Office 2007.
This fix was sent to me by my group's "tech" guy.
A number of Adobe RoboHelp for Word 7 users have reported that they cannot save changes or generate an output. The cause has been isolated to the RHComAdd.DLL being disabled.
    Check for that in Word:
For versions up to 2003 go to Help | About | Disabled Items. If RHComAdd.DLL appears, re-enable it.
For Word 2007, go to the Office Button | Word Options | Add-ins. Under "Manage" select Disabled Items and click Go. If RHComAdd.DLL appears, highlight it and re-enable it. (THIS IS WHAT I DID)
Alternatively, you can re-register the DLL. Go to Start | Run and type in the following line, assuming you have installed RoboHelp to the default location.
    regsvr32 "C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe RoboHelp 7\RoboHELP\RHComAdd.dll"
How does this DLL get disabled? The cause has been identified as a Word document being opened in Internet Explorer rather than in Word.
This problem was fixed in Build 7.0.2.
Hope this helps you. I'm still working on the compile error.

  • With new PC RoboHelp for Word will not open

When I try to open RoboHelp for Word, this error message
    appears:
"The version of Microsoft Word you have installed is not
supported. Please install an earlier version of Word before running
    RoboHelp for Word."
With this new PC installation, I'm still using Word 2003,
which is the same version that I used previously. However, the PC's
operating system is now XP, whereas it was previously Windows 2000.
    Any ideas?
    Thank you!
    Janice

Peter and Brian, THANKS so much! RoboHelp for Word is working
    now.
Peter, your advice to install RoboHelp AFTER installing Word
was key in solving this problem.
For a quick summary of the result -- our Help Desk
uninstalled and reinstalled Outlook, Word, and RoboHelp. Then they
reinstalled Word and Outlook; needed to change an "Advanced"
setting in outlook; to get Word to stop giving me the error
messages, they needed to redo my user profile. Then after I was
confident that Word and Outlook were working correctly, this
afternoon I installed RoboHelp X5 via my CD, and then downloaded
and installed these two patches from Adobe.com:
    - rho_x501.exe (for the RH Office Word 2003 Support Update)
    - rho13_x502.exe (for the Microsoft XP Service Pack 2 Support
    Update X5.0.2).
I'm so thankful that RoboHTML and RoboHelp for Word seem to
    be working well! Thanks again!
    Janice
P.S. I do have one more question about a patch that I've not
yet loaded, but I'll post that under a separate subject.

  • Compiling Robohelp for Word project as MS HTML Help

    Hi jfullington
Check out the following link. I think it may answer your
    question.
    Click
here I believe you are interested in Snippet number 56.
Out of idle curiosity, is a compiled .CHM only one of several
outputs you are creating and you still need WinHelp? If it's the
primary output, you should really consider moving away from
RoboHelp for Word and toward RoboHelp HTML.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Files for compiling the help

Real newbie to Robosource 3.1. We have our WebHelp project in
Robosource with several technical writers working in the same
project. We all have the project on our hard drives and we did this
by opening robohelp and then selecting the lock icon at the top of
the Open page and downloading the project from Robosource. My
question is, do I use the files on my hard drive to compile the
help. It is my understanding that when I open the project in
RoboHelp, Robosource looks to see what files are the most recent
and then downloads those files to my hard drive.
If that's the case then I am thinking I should compile the
help from my hard drive as long as another user isn't in the
    application. Is that correct?
    Thanks.

That's more or less the way we do it. We designate a "build
owner" for each project. The build owner is responsible for
downloading the latest files from RSC and generating output. With
multiple writers on a project, having a single build owner is
helpful, especially if there are merged child projects involved in
the mix. The build owner knows what to do, and has everything
    configured correctly on his/her machine.
It probably doesn't matter if other writers are in the
project, except that their changes wouldn't be reflected in the
    generated output.
I think it's possible to set up command line generation that
grabs the latest files from RSC, but I haven't tried to do that
    yet.

  • Error message when I try to open the "help" files.

When I try to open the help files in Elements Photoshop 10, I get the following error message in a pop up box.  At the top, the box is labeled "Adobe AIR"  The message:  "Application descriptor could not be found for this application.  Try re-installing or contacting the publisher for assistance."
I have completely uninstalled and reinstalled both my Elements programs as well as adobe air, and have updated everything that I can think of and a few more things, and still get the same message.  Since I am one who often uses help files, I'd appreciate any help with this.
    Thank you.

  • Please fix the Robohelp bug related to supporting underscores (_) in the help files (*.chm)

There are 10 module specific projects. Further map IDs are assigned in all the 10 module projects to have context sensitivity. These are merged into a single project to generate the entire help file. The output for the project is html help (.chm).
Initially, we generated the html help and integrated with the application. When tested (pressed F1) the correct topic is displayed but with the ToC for that module and not the entire help.
Solution: I followed the steps mentioned in the following thread that I came across on Adobe forum.
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/240496#240496
But the solution didn’t work as expected, Further investigation showed that since the output file name had underscore (Module1_EN.chm to denote the language), the solution didn’t work.  Hence I removed the ‘underscore (_)’ from the output file name and generated the output again. This time the solution worked.
Please refer below the steps for generating the output.
    Steps:
Generated output (chm) for all the modules.  I had to make sure that the output file name does not contain any ‘underscore (_)’ as this caused the problem when generated the help file.
In the main help project (which is an empty container), merged all the projects using Robohelp’s Merged Project functionality.  While merging, I first created empty Book and then merged the project within that book.
For example, Book1 will contain Module1.chm, Book2 will contain Module2.chm and so on.
Added window definitions using Project Setup -> New Window. Also added reference to main ToC here by clicking Advanced Properties. (Table of Contents: Main.hhc)
Selected the above created window while generating the output (Single source layouts -> html help Layout -> Properties).
Generated the html output for the entire project (Main.chm).
Decompile the ‘Main.chm’ and extracted the ToC file ‘Main.hhc’.
For each module project, imported ‘Main.hhc’ as a Baggage File, created window definitions same as the Main project and with reference to ‘Main.hhc’.
Again generated html output for all the modules.
Tested CSH for the project. The correct topic displayed with the entire ToC.
    Best regards,
    /Vikas

You need to post a bug report to get Adobe's attention. This is a user to user forum. Please follow this link.

Not sure but I believe it may be a bug in the Microsoft Help Compiler over which Adobe have no control. Microsoft last updated in 2004. Good luck!

  • Primavera unable to open the Help files

    Hi,
one of my colleagues is failing to access to the help system with Primavera.
He is getting a message that says
    "The Address is Not Valid"
there is a screenshot on the attached URL
It is not happening on any other machine.
I have reinstalled the Primavera on his computer and the problem still occurs.
Any guidance on this would be very appreciated.
    Many Thanks

    Thanks,
I have checked the file type for the help file and it is set correctly,
the help file does open outside of the application without any issues.
It only seems to be a problem when open accessing the help file within Primavera.
I even tried setting the language differently (to German) and then accessing the help system but to no avail.
my feeling are there is a missing component are entry somewhere that tells the Helps system where the help files are located.
any further help would be very appreciated
    Many Thanks

  • RoboHelp 9 HTML: Is it possible to create a project with just the help files?

I have the help files but not the project... and I am just wondering if I can somehow import those help files into RoboHelp?

Ok, this is shameless advertising, but here it goes anyway: Peter's way works perfect, but it will take a huge amount of time. You may also want to consider one of my recovery scripts that can recover a project in minutes: Recovery script | WvanWeelden.eu
In the interest of full disclosure: Please note that these scripts are commercial.
