RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features

I looked at some online training that had a really nice glossary feature.  I'm trying to figure out if Robohelp is what I need to accomplish something like this since it claims to have such great glossary, Index, and TOC features.  However,  I can't find a demo developed in Robohelp showing what these features are capable of.  Does anyone know of any demonstrations that I could view to see if this is what I'm looking for before I purchase?

No, I actually don't have anything yet.  I considered downloading the trial version, but I didn't want to spend the time to learn the software if it didn't have what I needed.
I see from your site that it is what I'm looking, and thank you so much for sending me that link.  Now I know, buying RoboHelp and learning it won't be a waste of time and money.

Subject: RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features
Hi, Melbert2000
It's not clear whether you already use RoboHelp or have installed the trial version as part of your evaluation. Assuming you have, each release of RoboHelp comes with sample projects to help explore features. For example, Adobe RoboHelp 8 comes with a project called Web Graphics.
One quick way to see the TOC/Index/Glossary in action would be on my site, called Clownfish School.
http://www.showmethedemo.com/clownfish_school/
You will notice the Glossary is visible in two ways. First, as a Glossary button which shows in the Navigation pane. Second is in the form or expanding hotspots within topic text. You can see some examples if you go to the topic "News from Thailand and Greece" Click on the maroon color words "Anemonefish" and "Clownfish" and you will see how the Glossary hotspots show or hide as you click on them.
As part of your purchase evaluation, I would recommend you download the Adobe RoboHelp Reviewer's Guide here to get a better idea of the various features:
https://acrobat.com/#d=5bE00menRN24n8TzSel0Iw
And the Web Graphics Sample project can be downloaded here:

Hope this helps.

  • Possible to have both an index and TOC open by default?

I'm using RH7 (I have RH 8 but don't use it since it buggers up formatting from previous versions) and I publish wbhelp.
Is it possible to set BOTH the Index and TOC to display as open when the project is posted. When I generate a primary layout, I can only slect one as default in the second screen (Wbhelp navigation).
    Thanks!

We feel your pain. How about making the topic that links to the movie the default topic of your help file. That way they'd get to see it every time they open the help. Failing that, try a sledgehammer over their cranium

  • Master page INDEX and TOC

In master page, I have used HTML HELP CONTROL and inserted index and toc. I am facing two problems basically,
    1. IN INDEX, I want to remove the default heading i.e., "Type in the keyword to find:" and change the display button with a custom image..
    2. In TOC I have add custom plus and minus icon, but when compiled to CHM, inbuilt plus and minus icon is also seen (even though i have not selected plus/minus square option while complining)
Can some one let me know what needs to done... END PRODUCT IS CHM file

Hi adobe-fm and welcome to the RH community.
Unfortunately the opportunity to customise the look and feel of CHM files is limited. For the index, you can not have a custom image or remove the default heading. With the TOC, are you talking about a custom icon strip? Perhaps you can leave us an image of whet you are seeing. Use the following icon to do so:

  • How can I delete the Index and Search features in a RoboHelp 9 project?

I have a RoboHelp 9 project in which the user does not want the Index. The only way I could delete it was to click on the Delete button for each entry until the Index was blank. So that worked. Only problem is that it created a mess of the Search feature. There are now numbers and letters in Search that link to topics. We want the Search feature disabled. Any suggestions?

    Hi there
    What is your output type?
If it's WebHelp, look at the Single Source Layout properties. In the properties you will find an area with check boxes that allow you to turn off Index, Search, Glossary, Etc.
Click the area on the left that is labeled Navigation and just clear the check marks from what you wish to turn off.

  • Is there a way to do multiple indexes and ToCs?

I have InDesign, CS2.  I am wondering, is it possible to do multiple indexes? For example, an index of names, a separate index for places. Similarly, is it possible to make multiple Tables of Contents? What I really want is a Table of Contents, a list of illustrations, a list of charts, and a list of maps.  What is the best way to go about this?  I realize I can make a table of contents, copy the text and use it, then change the toc settings to make a new one. So my main concern is the indexes, but I am curious if there is a better way for the tocs.
    Thanks

The way you can do multiple indexes is by using the Symbol area of the
index topics and creating a separate index under different symbols.
You can set the alphabetic order manually. When you build the index,
you'll end up with separate sequences for each symbol and you then
just lay out each section where you need it.
    Not intuitive, but it works...

  • RH6: HTML: Link to Index and Glossary

I built a project in RH6 to generate WebHelp. How can I link
to the Glossary and Index from the Content Area (i.e., right
    pane)?

Thanks for the tip; Skinny on Skins documents the calls for
Glossary, Index, and some other goodies. Despite the excellent
resource, my Glossary link (only one I tried) failed in my test
page. This might be related to RH6's handling of baggage files. I
plainly saw "whtbar.js" in RH6's baggage files, but it didn't
appear in my site. But, I did find "whtbar_ns.js" in my site even
though it was nowhere in my project. I inserted references to both
names in the head of my test page, but had no joy. I needed to move
on to other tasks. I will revisit this issue a litte later.

  • Help!! Can't access TOC, Index, and Glossary

Help!!! I renamed my project. Then I renamed the TOC, Index, and Glossary-which I know I shouldn't have done. Now I cannot access them within my project. I tried to rename them back, but now I have both sets or named TOC,index, and Glossary, and neither works when I open my project. I have a copy of the chm with the correct TOC, Index, and Glossary. Can I extract them from this?

Did you perform the renaming from the Rename functionality inside RoboHelp? If so there is no reason why you can't rename projects, TOCs, Indexes or Glossaries. Can you tell us what version of RoboHelp you are using and exactly what TOC, Index and Glossary are being displayed inside the project. An image may help us here which you can post by using the icon below.

  • Order of Index and Glossary in Printed Documentation

In my RoboHelp HTML project, I'm adding an Index and Glossary to the Printed Documentation section layout. I want both files below the Chapter Layout icon. They both will go no further than the first icon above the TOC. The down arrow is grayed out.
Someone else had this problem, and the answer was to click the last icon in the Section layout and then add the files. This did not work for me.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance.

I had the same problem with RH8.
What corrected it for me was to delete the TOC, click the + button, add the Index (it magically appeared where it was supposed to be, at the end), then click the + button again to add the TOC back in.  (I don't have a Glossary in my section layout)

  • Why do the glossary tab and browse sequences of my CHM not show up outside of Robohelp?

    Hi,
I have Robohelp 8.02.208 running on a 64-bit Windows 7 machine. It has only been a few weeks since I moved from XP, but I don't know if this is connected to my issue of having a grayed out glossary tab and no browse sequences listed in my generated CHM.
I had encountered a very simialr issue a couple or year ago, and thus I have verified in the registry that HHActiveX.dll is registered and properly located on my machine. All seems fine for that, but there is different twist: when I generate the CHM from Roboehlp and then click "View Result" everything works wonderfully. The problem is that as soon as I close that CHM, the browse sequences and glossary disappear. That is, I generate abc.CHM to C:\folderA and although everything is in place when I click View Result in Robohelp, if I later go to C:\folderA and open the same file, it has a grayed out glossary tab and missing browse sequences. And, not surprisingly I guess, if I send the CHM to someone else they get the same glossary-&-broswe-sequence-free result.
I have looked over many forum disucssions on grayed out glossary tabs and missing browse sequences, but nothing seems to explain my particular issue. It leaves me scratching my head quite a bit.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks in advance :-)

    Hi there
Likely you need the 64 bit version of the HHActiveX.dll. I believe this is only available in RoboHelp HTML version 9.
If you have version 9 I received this from a Question I asked of Adobe:
...you can get the 64 bit version of HHActiveX.dll in  RoboHelp 9.0. It is kept at "<RoboHelp 9.0 install  folder>\Redist\x64\HHActiveX.dll"
If RoboHelp 9.0 is  installed on your machine, this activeX control is already registered.  Otherwise you need to register this DLL.
    To register HHActiveX.dll,
1> Run Command prompt(cmd.exe) as administrator
    2> Type "regsvr32 <HHActiveX.dll full path>" and press Enter.
3> This should show that the registration is done successfully.
Now working with 64 bit version of HH.exe should also show Glossary and Browse Sequences.
You might download version 9 and test.

  • Glossary Tab and Navigation Controls

    Hi
Our company has been asked to test our application using a
Japanese version of Windows. Neither the program nor the help will
be translated. Our QA department found two help-related problems:
    1. The TOC, Index, and Search tabs appear in Japanese, but
    the Glossary tab does not.
    2. The Navigation Control I inserted for the Related Topics
appears as a square with a dot in the middle as if it were a
missing image, and nothing happens when you click it.
I'd appreciate any help you can offer to either show the
Glossary tab in Japanese, or the other three in English, and to get
    my Related Topics popup back.
I use RoboHelp 7.02 HTML and generate CHM files.
    Thanks,
    Jennifer

  • Issues with RoboHelp HTML Help and IE7

I attempted to create a basic (one-topic) HTML Help file
using RoboHelp X5 (5.0.2 update), with the topic tied to the TOC,
index, and search navigation tools. I attempted to open the CHM on
a PC running Windows XP / IE7, but it displayed the "page cannot be
    displayed" error.
I tried to open the CHM file on another PC running Windows
    2000 / IE6, and it worked like a charm.
Apparently, there is something about IE7 (or Windows XP, but
I doubt it) that breaks RoboHelp HTML Help files. Does anyone have
any information about this issue? Thanks!

Ndata is new to Oracle 11g. Your other posts indicate that you are using Oracle 10g, so you don't have ndata, so you get an error when you try to use it. If you want to use the 11g features that enable context indexes with contains to do all of the things that ctxcat indexes with catsearch do, then you need to upgrade to 11g.
The online documentation is searchable. Most things regarding Oracle Text are contained in either the Oracle Text Reference or the Oracle Text Application Developer's guide.
I suggest that you start with something very simple, then build from there.
The following is similar to your other post that used catsearch:

  • Index and Signet

In PageMaker one could generate signets in Adobe reader from the indexes in PM
With InDesign CS4 this is no longer possible, unless you use the Signet feature. If you need the Index, this a double task to perform ...
Is there a way to generate signets from the indexes in ID ?
    Thanks

Oops ! I used the french word and I don't know it in English.
What I call "signet" is the equivalent  in Reader of an index and it allows you by clicking on an entry to go directly to the related page.

How can I get my navigation icons and TOC back. I don't think
I have a frameset file. When I click view Result from within

    Hi all
Either this or you aren't pointing at the project correctly.
For example, pointing at an individual topic inside the help
instead of the full WebHelp with the frameset.
