RoboHelp Indexing

Hello every one,
I am new to using RoboHelp. My recent project has me building
a Mega file from three smalled files used by individual departments
at my job. The mega file will be used by all departments and each
department will have there own drop down from the home page.
I just finished building the Mega file. The Index Keywords
under the project side of RoboHelo did not import from the original
index files.
Is there a way to import the Index Keywords from the three
seperate RoboHelp files to the new Mega file?

Hi S,
you could 'carefully' copy the source project .hhk file
content from each of the two source project to the new .hhk file.
Open up the files in notepad and take a bit of time to digest the
format of these files. You just need to copy the appropriate
entries between the following tags....
<html>
<!-- Sitemap 1.0 -->
<object type="text/site properties">
<param name="SiteType" value="index">
</object>
AND
</html>
Obviously backup before you start :-)
Kind Regards
Craig

    Hi..
The border line that is displayed now is that of the MAIN window boundary. if you want to print a line immedietly after the line items end, then you need to use a suitable frame which is available in Table tab of table that you have created. These buttons are just below the Table tab described as SELECT PATTERN, OUTER FRAME etc.
    Hope this works.

  • RoboHelp Html 8 DITA indexterm

    Hi,
I am trying to generate a RoboHelp project from a DITA map file. Most things do work fine, but I have not been able to figure out how to generate the RoboHelp index from the "indexterm" expressions in the DITA files.
When I look at the original DITA xslt files, there is some basic treatment of the indexterm tags, but of course there is no notion of RoboHelp index files. Any hints how to best approach this problem?

Well, here is my own answer (RoboHelp 8, Framemaker 9):
In Framemaker/DITA add behind the title or shortdescription a prolog tag, thereafter metadata, keywords, indexterm.
    Add your indexterms.
When moving to RoboHelp, these terms will be added to the RoboHelp index.
When you want to create a Framemaker book you probably want to hide the metadata. This can be done making the prolog tags conditional.
In Framemaker, go to menu DITA > DITA Options... and select "Conditionalize prolog on file open". You need to open and save each file once to have this option come into effect.
When you go to create a Framemaker document, open your DITA map file and choose File > Save as... and choose "Composite Document 9.0 (*.fm)".
Open the file just created and go to menu Special > Conditional Text > Show/Hide Conditional Text...
In the respective tab select radio button option "Show as per Condition" and make sure, that the DITA-Prolog element appears on the list of "Hide" elements on the right.
    That's it, folks.

  • Linked doc to project. Added index to topic. What happens when I update?

    Hi all:
    I'm using RH10 and Word 2010.
After a lot of struggle and with help from Peter Grainge's excellent website, I successfully linked a doc to a RH project. Four topics were generated from the doc.
There were no index keywords in the doc.
I added some index keywords to the RoboHelp topics.
As a test, I generated the topics again. The index keywords were still attached to the topic. This surprised me: I thought they would disappear when I regenerated the topic.
Is it safe to add index keywords to the topic or should they be added to the source doc instead? If there are index keywords in both the doc and the RH project, will the ones in the project disappear when the topic is regenerated?
It seems too good to be true...
    Thanks for any advice.
    Juliette Curtis

    Hi Juliette.
With a linked Word file you can control how index entries are created. Your choices are:
Not to convert any Word keywords to RoboHelp keywords.
Convert any Word keywords to an existing RoboHelp index.
Convert any Word keywords to a new existing RoboHelp index.
If you right click on the linked file in the Project Manager and select Properties, you can set what you want there.

  • WebHelp - Executing a search using URL parameters

    Hello everyone,
I'm trying to figure out how to execute a search in a WebHelp output by calling it from the URL, just like I do with map IDs. Basically, I'd like to do something like this:
    http://www.myserver.com/help/robohelp/index.htm?search=mysearchterm
Or any variant. I've tried searching the help files and the internet but can't find out how to do this.
    Any idea?

Peter, it's the other way around. I'd like to search within RH from the outside.
In reality, the only thing I want to have is highlighting. The thing is, our help files will not be integrated within the software we're building and are actually just hosted on the web, and the user, hitting F1 or a Help button, will have his default browser open to the corresponding page. However, we do have access to quite a bit of information from the software, in a format that we can still change before release. At the moment, here's what we're planning:
    http://help.objectiflune.com/<lang>/<product>/index.htm#<module>_<dialog>.htm
But we have one further bit of information that I'd love to use: <control>. Basically when someone uses the (?) button and clicks on a control, or if the user has an option active (clicked) when hitting F1, we can get the name of that control (checkbox, radio, button, input box, etc). What I would have liked to do is to highlight that control on the page. So technically I don't actually need search, I need highlighting. Oops, should have made that clearer (but I was avoiding a wall of text).
Note that I will be using WebHelp Pro with RoboHelp Server 9, as soon as we can set that in place, if that changes anything.

  • Index (HHK) sorting issue in Japanese (RoboHelp X3)

I'm a Japanese localizing engineer who now tries to generate
a WebHelp with a nicely sorted index in Japanese.
As I assume that this has been a known issue for double-byte
languages for a long time, a Japanese index cannot be sorted
perfectly in a compiled chm or WebHelp. In Japanese, there are
several types of Japanese characters (Kanji, Katakana, Hiragana).
Regardless of what type of character a string is typed in, Japanese
strings should be sorted according to <i>yomi-gana</i>,
the way each Japanese string pronounces but currently an index gets
sorted according to the following order (in ASCII code):
    *number
    *alphabet
    *hiragana
    *katanaka
    *kanji... and so on.
So here I'm trying to do the followings:
    1. In a HHK file, I put <so>...</so> in front of
every entry where I spell out the pronounciation in each <so>
    segment.
    2. Open the HHK with HTML Workshop, sort the file, and save
it (I'll get the file sorted according to what I have put in
    <so>..</so>.
    3. Open it with a Text Editor and remove all the
    <so>..</so> entrires.
    4. Put the HHK file in a build folder and generate a
    chm/WebHelp in RoboHelp X3.
In the 4th step, I don't want RoboHelp to re-sort the HHK but
it does it automatically. If I can disable the index sorting
functionality in RoboHelp X3 (the latest version in Japanese) but
looks like there is no way to do it. If anyone is sure that it's
not possible to disable the auto-sorting functionality in RoboHelp,
please let me know so that I can give up witout a sweat.
By the way, I have tried the alternative for WebHelp that
skips the 3rd step and removes all the <so>...</so> in
the files that RoboHelp creates. The result is that everything got
messed up and some of the contents in the Index couldn't be viewed
    in a browser.
    Thanks.
    Rota.

    Hi Paul
Have you tried just right-clicking in the index and choosing sort?
Click the image below to view larger.
Note that this may require you to temporarily configure Microsoft HTML Help as the primary layout and editing the Project Settings in order to allow the sort function to appear.
Remember, you press Ctrl+Shift+? to open Project Settings. You then would turn off (or ensure it's turned off) the Binary Index feature.
Once you have done this, you would then revert any settings that you changed to allow things to work.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Index doesn't work if PDF file resides in RoboHelp Project

If I create a RH8 project and publish, the index works as it should.  Each keystroke will change where you are in the Index. If I put a .PDF file in the project, the Index doesn't work -- it no longer recognizes keystrokes and you can only scroll through it.
Does RoboHelp not support PDF files within the project?

Ummm, did I hear you say "Usage Reports"?
That sems to indicate that you are publishing to RoboHelp Server, no? And that piece of information would have been nice to know up front. Please click here for more on why.
If you are indeed using the RoboHelp Server, I'm going to move this thread over into that forum category. But I'll wait to hear back with a confirmation from you before I do.

  • RoboHelp 9 - problem with merged TOC and index

Using RoboHelp v9.0.0.228 I have a master project which contains several merged TOCs and indexes for other CHMs. This has worked successfully for years, but has now stopped working in our translated CHMs. I have checked all the relevant settings and they appear to be correct. The English version still works correctly. Can you help please? Many thanks.

OK, so my post was just a summary really!
I have a main project with its own TOC, index and topics. I then have several other projects with their own TOCs, indexes and topics, and these are merged into the master TOC. In all these projects, we use the indexes to contain function ids for our software, so that when you press F1 in a software function, it invokes the correct Help topic in the CHM. The software is coded so that it goes to the main project first, and then looks in the merged index to find the link to the Help topic.
In the individual sub projects, the TOCs and indexes are present and work correctly. Also, in the master project, the TOC and index works correctly in the original English version. However, even though the TOCs, indexes and topics are all present and correct in the translated versions (Russian, for example) the index in the master project does not contain the entries for the sub projects. The TOCs for the sub projects do, however, work correctly.

  • Robohelp HTML 5.02 - Topics in index do not synchronize

I have Robohelp HTML 5.02 - when I select a help button from
the program the top navigation window synchronizes but the Topics
within the Index window do not. I tried the solution suggested in
online help but I must have a previous version of Robohelp HTML
because I don't see the synchonize button or the window tab in the

properties - Advanced - TOC Styles tab. The navigation window at
    the top works fine.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
    Thanks - Kern

Can anyone suggest how to troubleshoot this problem? This Help project has a few hundred topics and compiled perfectly in RH X5.1. It seems strange that the entries in the Index pane within RoboHelp HTML 8 look fine yet they are not in the right order in the .chm.
    Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

  • Internet Exploer 11 suddenly isn't showing my Table of Contents or Index for RoboHelp 10 output

I generated a WebHelp project with Adobe RoboHelp 10 last November. I had no problems with the TOC or index. Whenever I try to view output today, IE won't show the left pane with the list of topics in the Table of Contents. It also doesn't show index tags. I have no problem viewing this same output in Mozilla Firefox. I just set Firefox to be my default browser b/c it is so frustrating that I can't immediately view changes to my help project. Has anyone else experienced issues with IE 11? I even cleared cookies and the cache, and I still can't see my TOC and index. This never happened before.

    Hi,
Thanks to the forums I have found useful patches for RoboHelp 10 (sample links are below). I find that even after installing the latest AdobePatchInstaller.exe fix for RoboHelp 10 that I have to overwrite the whutil.js file in my !SSL! WebHelp_PRO output folder every single time I need to check changes in my output in the browser. I just want to confirm that there is no better workaround than manually copying whutil.js every time I generate my output to check it. Thanks.

  • How can I delete the Index and Search features in a RoboHelp 9 project?

I have a RoboHelp 9 project in which the user does not want the Index. The only way I could delete it was to click on the Delete button for each entry until the Index was blank. So that worked. Only problem is that it created a mess of the Search feature. There are now numbers and letters in Search that link to topics. We want the Search feature disabled. Any suggestions?

    Hi there
    What is your output type?
If it's WebHelp, look at the Single Source Layout properties. In the properties you will find an area with check boxes that allow you to turn off Index, Search, Glossary, Etc.
Click the area on the left that is labeled Navigation and just clear the check marks from what you wish to turn off.

  • Index seen in RoboHelp does not match CHM

I have a project which has conditional text and topics to
enable me to create different CHM Help files for four variations of
an application. I haven't noticed any problems with the indexes in
previous versions of the Help files that I've generated but am
    having real problems this time.
The index looks fine in RoboHelp. It's designed so that
parent keywords which have associated sub-keywords do not have
links to help topics. It uses some re-direct topics to avoid
keywords appearing in an index for the wrong product.
When I generate the CHM files the indexes omit some parent
keywords. The sub-keywords for the missing parent keywords are
inserted under other (inappropriate) parent keywords. I've been
struggling with this for days without finding anything obvious that
might be causing the problem. In the end I deleted the index and
re-entered all index entries manually again. Unfortunately, this
    didn't fix the problem.
In the end, to enable me to release the Help files I had to
use the following, unsatisfactory workaround. I went through slowly
identifying each missing parent keyword and gave each of them a
link to a topic that was displayed in all versions of the Help. So
I've ended up linking to some topics that are not particularly
appropriate, and having an index which is not consistent (some
parent keywords have links and most don't).
Any suggestions on what's going on here?

Ressucitating this topic as I have a similar issue but I am
not working on a merged project....
I am using RH for HTML X5 and generating HTML Help. I was
working on the index (adding keywords) when RH crashed on me (CPD
issue). I restored my CPD file and for some reason now, the index
from the RH project does not match the index of the compiled CHM
file! I tried opening the project.hhk file and the rhkkeyword.apj
file in a text editor and tried to find the keywords that are in
the compiled help but not in the project. Both files looked like my
index from within the RH project, i.e. they did not have these
extra keywords. Basically, I have got a few keywords stored
somewhere, but not in my hhk or apj files, that I cannot edit.
Any ideas of where these could be stored (CPD?). How can I
get to them? I need to edit the topics linked to one of these
keywords and cannot do this. I tried re-adding the keyword to my
index in RH but the software tells me it already exists (and I
    cannot see it)...
Thanks in advance for any assistance,

  • RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features

I looked at some online training that had a really nice glossary feature.  I'm trying to figure out if Robohelp is what I need to accomplish something like this since it claims to have such great glossary, Index, and TOC features.  However,  I can't find a demo developed in Robohelp showing what these features are capable of.  Does anyone know of any demonstrations that I could view to see if this is what I'm looking for before I purchase?

No, I actually don't have anything yet.  I considered downloading the trial version, but I didn't want to spend the time to learn the software if it didn't have what I needed.
I see from your site that it is what I'm looking, and thank you so much for sending me that link.  Now I know, buying RoboHelp and learning it won't be a waste of time and money.

Subject: RoboHelp Glossary, Index, and TOC Features
    Hi, Melbert2000
It's not clear whether you already use RoboHelp or have installed the trial version as part of your evaluation. Assuming you have, each release of RoboHelp comes with sample projects to help explore features. For example, Adobe RoboHelp 8 comes with a project called Web Graphics.
One quick way to see the TOC/Index/Glossary in action would be on my site, called Clownfish School.
    http://www.showmethedemo.com/clownfish_school/
You will notice the Glossary is visible in two ways. First, as a Glossary button which shows in the Navigation pane. Second is in the form or expanding hotspots within topic text. You can see some examples if you go to the topic "News from Thailand and Greece" Click on the maroon color words "Anemonefish" and "Clownfish" and you will see how the Glossary hotspots show or hide as you click on them.
As part of your purchase evaluation, I would recommend you download the Adobe RoboHelp Reviewer's Guide here to get a better idea of the various features:
    https://acrobat.com/#d=5bE00menRN24n8TzSel0Iw
And the Web Graphics Sample project can be downloaded here:

  • RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10

As the title says, RoboHelp x5 TOC and index missing when the project is converted to RoboHelp 10. Any ideas for recovering or importing the x5 TOC and index?
Before this is suggested, auto-create is not an option.

    Hi there
Perhaps give this a try. From the Project Manager pod, right-click the Table of Contents area and choose "New Table of Contents". Give it a name and enable the "Copy existing Table of Contents" check box. Then click the Ellipsis icon on the far right side. See if you have a .HHC file in the folder. Odds are, you will. That will be the existing (missing) TOC.
Hopefully that will work. If so, repeat the process for the index.
I think when upgrading the project something goes wrong with naming.
