RoboHelp X5 and MS Word 2007

Hi,
I am going to have a new laptop soon. Currently, I am using
RoboHelp X5 and MS Word 2003. I have the option to install MS Word
2007 on my new laptop.
My question is "Does MS Word 2007 work with RoboHelp X5?"
Thank you!

Hi again
Yes, you may open the X5 project in 7. But just to be on the
totally safe side, I'd make a backup copy of your project before
working on it in 7. Also, make sure all patches have been applied
to RoboHelp before attempting to open the older projects.
Cheers... Rick

  • RoboHelp X5 and MS Word

I have a number of documents that are confiured in MS Word as
Master and Sub-documents. When trying to import them into a
RoboHelp Project I get the master document as a topic but no
content for the sub-documents (despite Word/RoboHelp opening the
documents in the import process) just a couple hyperlinks to my
    working directory.
Has anybody got any expereince of using RoboHelp and
    Master/Sub-documents?

    Hello John,
    Welcome to the Forum.
If you are trying to import the files using the Master
document only, then what you are seeing is correct. Master Docs
link to the subdoc, it locates and displays the text accordingly.
RoboHelp is being instructed to import the file with the links. You
will have to import each sub-document individually.
Unfortunately, I have still to tweak a Word Macro I am
preparing to split large documents by section and save each as
individual HTM files in prep for importing to Robohelp. I still
have to amend the macro to strip out the unwanted HTML script from
the files so they import cleanly into RoboHelp. If it was ready, I
would have posted it for you.
As an aside, you realise that Master documents in Word have
only two states: about to corrupt and corrupted.
    See
    this
    article for an explanation.
    Hope this helps,
    Brian

  • RoboHelp for Word using Word 2007

I upgraded Word to 2007 and now RoboHelp has lost
functionality. Is Robohelp 7 compatible with Word 2007? If so, I'm
assuming it's because it's looking at the wrong template (used to
be .dot). If it's compatible, how do I apply the correct template?

  • Problem with index markers and importing MS Word 2007 files

This was ugly in that it wasn't caught until after a book had been typeset and the index was being finalized. I'm now having to go back and manually insert a zillion index markers. Not fun.
This was my first project since migrating from FM 7.1 to FM9.0.3.
Source documents are Microsoft Word 2007. Am working in Microsoft Windows 7 64-bit.
When the Word files were imported into FrameMaker, only SOME of the index markers were imported. The difference between those that were imported and those that weren't was seemingly random.
I did some testing and found the problem and a solution.
Looking at the source Word .docx file, and displaying hidden text shows two types of index markers:
    1. { XE "word to be indexed"}
    2. {xe "word to be indexed"}
Note the difference in case and the extra space after the opening brace in #1. Markers of type 1 were imported fine. Markers of type 2 were stripped by the import process.
    The solution:
Backsave the Word file to Word 2003 format (.doc) before importing into FrameMaker.
I backsaved to Word 2003 and imported using both the "Microsoft Word" and "Microsoft Word 2007" filters and both filters imported correctly. It's only when trying to import a Word 2007 .docx file directly that things run amok.
    Grr...

Thank you for posting your solution, Dan. It's cold comfort, but I've also ran into this issue in the past, almost certainly well before Word2003 though, probably as far back as Word2000 or earlier.
In your testing, did you try saving as RTF to see if the markers were homogenized, by any chance? In my simple testing just now, Word itself recognized the index field correctly no matter whether I changed the field to "xe" or "XE", but FM's import of the .docx file format wouldn't recognize "xe", only "XE". But importing an RTF file handled both upper- and lower-case entries.
Ah, yes, that's it -- saving the Word2007 file as RTF (with 2 fields, one caps, one lower-case) changed cap field to lower-case when the RTF is opened in Word again, so saving as RTF does homogenize the fields to lower-case. Is it possible that your file(s) were changed to or saved as RTF at any point in their life-cycle? I believe some older versions of Word were actually RTF under the hood, too -- if you do Save As in Word2007 you can scroll through the File Type entries and see "Word 97-2002 & 6.0/95 - RTF (*.doc)"  I believe some doc management systems change binaries to RTF too, or conversely some apps create RTF but they name the files as doc.
So Word itself recognizes either lower- or upper-case, and FM's RTF import handles both, but not the .docx import.

  • Officejet 6500 and word 2007 ctrl-p never prints just sits in the queue

just set up an officejet on a windows XP machine...and oddly, word 2007 won't print if i select file->print OR ctrl-P.
clciking the tiny printer icon to prit without a dialog box works fine.
but if i want just page one i can't do that from that click.
other applications seem to print fine.
when ctrl-P is plressed and ok selected on the following dialog box a print job appears in the printer queue and reads "spooling" but never comes out of the printer.
i altered the print queue to not spool and instead the job reads "printing" and never appears.
if i quit word with a job in the queue word gives me a warning that quitting word will cancel the printing jobs. and quitting word does just that, the jobs are removed from the queue.
...and just to be clear i can print fine if i click on the one click printing icon in the icon bar directly above the document and below the menu bar.
    what's the fix for this?
    thanks!

Well...the 'solution' I received from HP Support was to add a new printer (Deskjet 990C) and make it the default printer. Once I did that, all printing issues went away. The tech person did say there were some compatability issues between the Officejet 6500 printer and Vista, but would not elaborate.

  • Adobe does not recognize footers in Microsoft Word 2007 to PDF

I have copied and pasted the details, below, from a previous message I have sent out to an assistive technology listserv.
I am encountering this problem with various builds and versions of Adobe Acrobat:
Acrobat X on a Windows Vista 64-bit build (note that this is the best Acrobat I can install on Windows Vista, Adobe Reader XI is not even supported)
Acrobat X on a Windows XP build, sorry, do not know the bit count (it is my work computer so I can't upgrade anything)
    Acrobat 9 on a Windows 7 64-bit build.
I have also encountered and checked into whether or not the PDF reads (and does what I want it to) in JAWS 14, latest update (Feb 2013). We encounter the same problem with JAWS and this morning found out that there is a conversion error between Word and Adobe. (See this post, where the ---- are).
Summary, I have spoken with JAWS, put out a support ticket with NVDA via e-mail, spoken with Microsoft, and tried to communicate with Adobe about this issue for help and Adobe is refusing to help. The other places tried everything they knew but they could not get it to work. I even tried to strip all the page numbers from Word and number using Adobe's page numbering feature, but that was not successful either because I cannot use Roman numerals.
I would appreciate any feedback the Adobe Forums can give me; please note that I cannot post a sample document at this time as the only document I have is a private work document (cannot share those by policy, so I will have to make up a fake document if I get the time and energy).
Thank you very much for your time and expertise. The pertient info is above and below in "Original Message" and "Activities section" - the other information is there if you'd like to look. And to provide feedback to Adobe about things I think they could improve, since they will not let me email them directly.
    ----Original Message----
My question concerns the reading of Footers / Headers in Microsoft Word 2007 and Adobe Acrobat (headers/footers designed in Microsoft Word 2007 and then converted to PDF with "Bookmark" checked in Adobe Acrobat conversion settings).
The document is a word document containing 50+ pages. There are 12 pages of "front matter" that are marked with Roman numerals. Subsequently, the body text of the document has an Arabic number (1, 2, 3, 4, etc.) in the bottom right corner. Footers are used properly in the document. All Table of Contents links, which do link to both headings in the "front matter" and to headings in the body text, are picked up properly. Literately, the only thing not reading on the document are page numbers (the Word Status bar is reading its page numbers, but the page numbers in the footer are not reading).
I then need to convert the document to Adobe Acrobat PDF. Granted, I have a full copy of Adobe Acrobat X available to me, and my various assistive technologies have always functioned better when opened directly in Acrobat (rather than Adobe Reader). So, I set the accessibility options (from Word) properly, asking it to bookmark Headers and Footers as appropriate, thinking that this will pick up the page numbers and make them read as the bottom right corner of my PDF.
All links work in Adobe to navigate by section/heading. All figures are alt tagged. Everything is perfect - but the one thing that NVDA won't read are the page numbers. Visually, the page numbers are there on the document, but NVDA won't pick them up. Additionally, I also changed the appropriate page numbers in Adobe (Page Thumbnail Pane, on the Navigation Pane I believe it is called) - to reflect the section where it is Roman numerals and Arabic numerals. This did not help, and for what it is worth, I cannot get NVDA to voice when I am in this pane, so I don't seem to have a chance of getting the page number info from there.
NVDA reads the document just fine except for the above-mentioned snare. However, when it reads, it will go to the next page, and say, "Page 2 of 54, (page text), Page 3 of 54 (page text)," etc. when I will need it to say Page ii of 54 (page text), Page iii of 54 (page text)," and so on, changing to "Page 1" when the Arabic numbers are used.
I know that the Page Label issue is part of Adobe's issue, with them not releasing the PageLabel aspect. (I have looked through some NVDA tickets). I do not know how to put a "changeset" into my copy of NVDA though, or even if it would help (I have no computer scripting skill). The easy answer would be to upgrade to Adobe Reader XI and see if that helps, but I don't have the ability to put it on every computer I use, and *I need this file to read consistently across multiple versions of Adobe* (including Adobe Reader/Acrobat 9, X, and XI). (This file is also going out to people who may not have the latest version of Adobe, but are also running some copy of NVDA, either a portable or a full install).
Is there any way to pick up the Footers with page numbers voicing in NVDA, and/or have it read the user-editable page number box that is on Adobe's Toolbar (next to the 1 of 54 parentheses). This user-editable box, to jump to page numbers, reflects the Roman numerals I have loaded into the pages of Adobe. When I press Ctrl+Shift+N in Adobe, I can also go to the appropriate page (if I type in iii, it will take me to iii, if I type in 34, it will take me to the Arabic number 34 -- NOT the 34 of 54, which would land me on a different page. And I want to land on the page that has the Arabic 34, so that's functioning fine.
I just need the page numbers in the footer to voice, "Page iii," or "Page iv," or "Page 29," etc. If I could get NVDA to do that, I could say to viewers of this document, "If you are using NVDA, remember to Ctrl+Shift+N to get the GoTo Box, then type in the page number you want if you cannot follow a link or a bookmark." This document is *very* accessible in my opinion with lots of ways to navigate...the only aspect of navigation that isn't being picked up are those footer page numbers!
I do have my Document Formatting settings on the NVDA menu set to "Report Headers," but that does not seem to help in either Microsoft Word 2007 or Adobe Acrobat. I have even switched the page numbers from the footer to the header to see if that would help and it didn't.
    ----Activities I have done today----
I spent over an hour on the phone today with Freedom Scientific (makers of JAWS) trying to troubleshoot this. We discovered that Footers will not read very well in JAWS and Microsoft Word 2007 (only solution is to stop reading document text and read Virtual Viewer text briefly, then go back out to document text, then back into Virtual Viewer which is NOT an acceptable or accessible solution whatsoever -- too much work for someone trying to read the document) -- and then we also discovered that:
Upon conversion from Word 2007 to .txt file (.docx to .txt), there are no alt tags for the figures in the document, or page numbers.
Upon conversion from Word 2007 to Adobe Acrobat X then to .txt file, every insert of a page number and footer is replaced with the same alt numberpad numerical code: the one that generates female. ♀No wonder JAWS and NVDA are skipping this, neither understand how to communicate it.
On the advice of JAWS Technical Support I contacted Microsoft Accessibility Technical Support and spent an hour on the phone with them. They say that unless Adobe can find a solution, it appears that it is impossible for Microsoft products to read the footer if JAWS was unsuccessful doing what I wanted it to do. The document/footer in question includes about 12 pages of front matter (numbered in Roman numerals) and 44 pages of body text (numbered in Arabic numerals).
I kindly explained to the Microsoft Support Agent that I found this issue hard to believe, although I understood. Sighted folks have the ability to make their documents look quite professional and that is the caliber and quality of documents anticipated from everyone, especially college students graduating from school, or job applicants. That a coding issue prevents the footer from being read properly, except in Edit view, is disappointing. The representative was with me 100% of the way. She completely understood where I came from. And yes, when I am designing the document myself, I know what I put there (or I pretty much do, anyway). But if I recieve a document, it is much harder to tell what is really there or not, or how the page numbers really lay. And this is confusing as heck, believe me.
I then called Adobe Technical Support, after having a brief online chat with them. Granted, I had to leave the chat in the middle because I got interuptted by something that was high-priority, but the woman chatting from Adobe says that chat is only for installation issues, and I will have to pay to open a support ticket. Excuse me? I have paid a hefty sum of money for Adobe Acrobat 9 and Adobe Acrobat X (work paid for the other Acrobat X copy). I deserve this problem to be troubleshooted for free. There was even a statement on the Adobe Acrobat X website that said Acrobat X users didn't have to pay for support, but Reader users did.
----Slight bit of rant and constructive criticism----
In speaking with Adobe Technical Support, I had to wait on hold for 30 minutes before my call was answered, and then I had to consent to being on hold countless times and had to answer, "Yes, I am converting from Word 2007 to PDF using Adobe Acrobat X" at least 6 times. The representative would put me on hold, then ask me the question, then put me on hold again, repeated 6 times over 45 minutes. At the end of 45 minutes (1 hour and 20 minutes of wasted time by now, that I must justify to my employer) - I told the representative I wanted to speak with his supervisor immediately, I did not care if he was trying to fill out a support ticket (and putting me on hold at least 4 more times in 10 minutes while he claimed he was filling out the support ticket) - and finally he put me on hold again and gave me to a very helpful supervisor. Within 6 minutes of speaking with the supervisor the supervisor had my support ticket filled out and I should recieve a call from Adobe within the next 30 minutes if his estimation was right (he estimated two hours, but it's been an hour and a half).
I have yet to know what can be done about my document. Freedom Scientific Technical Support is closed now for the day and I need to work tomorrow and Friday away from the phone. As I stated to Microsoft Accessibility Support, I truly feel that Adobe should read the page footers, every document says that Adobe should be able to read the page footers, and I feel slighted that as a person who uses assistive technology, there is some glitch that isn't making this happen. I am not blaming a specific place per se, except I am a little frustrated with Adobe especially since they have not gotten back to me, and I am frustrated with their customer service. JAWS customer service and Microsoft customer service were both exemparly, and I cannot say enough good things about them. My wasted time with Adobe however, that was disrespect in my opinion. And I certainly will not pay to open a support ticket, and my workplace has a site license. They've paid enough already.
If you've read this far, thank you. I look forward to replies, or at least understanding. And if anyone has ideas, I'd appreciate it very much (yes, I have tried taking the page numbers off and using Adobe's page number feature, but that would not allow Roman numerals. Only Arabic.).

    Greetings NoNameGiven,
If I understand the problem correctly (I’m not sure I do) you would prefer ‘iii’ to be read as “eye eye eye” rather than “three”? The alt text property is the only way that I know of to make this happen. Hope this helps.

  • Creating a PD file from MS Word (2007) document

I have Adobe Acrobat 8 Pro (as part of CS3) and MS Word 2007 (as part of Office 2007)and have been trying to create a PDF file from a word document.
Here are the steps I have taken:
Open Word document and then click the "Acrobat" Tab.
    Then click "Create PDF" tab
In the dialog box that appears I selected "Fully Fucntional PDF" and clicked OK
I get the following message: "PDFMaker cannot locate the Adobe PDF Printer's printer driver. Please re-install Adobe Acrobat 8.0."
So I re-installed Adobe CS3 (which contains Acrobat 8 Pro). This did not solve the problem.
I repeated the whole process again this time selecting "Quick and simple PDF" and clicked OK. This time a PDF file was created.
My question is - why can't I create a "Fully Functional PDF" file? Is there something wrong or do I need some higher level version of Acrobat?
Looking forward to some advice. Thanks. Alan

Look in the printer list to be sure that the Adobe PDF printer is loaded. Also, go to the Adobe.com>download>updates and download all of the updates for AA8 and install them in order (don't try to skip unless the site says you can). The current version is AA8.1.3. That might solve the problem. It may be that you need at least AA8.1.2 to work properly with WORD 2007. There were a lot of problems with the initial release.

  • Word 2007 doesn't open any documents.

    Hello.
Our team are running Outlook 2010 and all the other office apps in 2007.
However, Word 2007 always has a problem with opening documents.
It works, shows none of error messages and the Word 2007 window opens properly but just doesn't show any documents.
To open a document, I have to drag and drop a document in Word 2007  that I want to.
After this small bothering task, everything works really fine.
I have changed every settings and add-in that could cause this issue.
To solve this problem Word 2007 has to be removed and installed again.
I'm really struggling to fix this issue but haven't found any reason.
Please help me with this issue!

Yes I thought of the same thing.
What I found was 2010 changed something in 2007 after Windwos Update.
    This might be registries.
An error message box pops up saying 2007 got damaged when I try to remove 2007 from Programs and Features and the list of 2007 is just gone leaving all the functions and feature stayed on a computer.
Office 2007 still works after removing just 'the Office 2007 list' though.
In this case 2007 has to be installed(actually over-installed) AGAIN to write 2007's registry properly, remove 2007 than install 2007 again.
So annoying... to fix this issue, have to do this task...
As you mentioned, I need something to manage the registry and will read the description on the web page carefully.
Thank you so much. Stefan Blom.

  • Remove SaveAs prompt for Word 2007 VBA SaveAs in 64-bit Window 2008

We use VBA WordApp_DocumentBeforeClose(ByVal Doc As Document, Cancel As Boolean)
to save the word file to another name when user closes the file  .
We use SaveAs to implement this like this:
     Doc.SaveAs FileName:=lcMetaFileName,  AddToRecentFiles:=False
The lcMetaFileName is a file ame with full path.
This SaveAs works fine with word 2003 and with word 2007 in Wndow 2008 32-bit.
But with word 2007 in Wndow 2008 64-bit,every time this SaveAs is called ,
a saveas prompt will be showed up asking for file ame , type, etc.
    We tried  adding
       fileFormat:=wdFormatDocument97
in the SaveAs call and adding
    Doc.Application.DisplayAlerts=wdAlertsNone
and checked 'allow back ground save' in the word setting
and we still get the prompt.
How can we get rid of the prompt?

Same here. My program uses demographics to create a filename and filetye as RTF, but it is ignored and a prompt pops up !!!! Frustating :(
    OS - Win 8.1 64 bit
    Office 365 32 bit (Word 2013)
Same code works for all other versions

  • Is there a download to read Word 2007 files on E50

I need to read word files in pc suite. i can read versions up to 2003 but word 2007 is a big no no.
Anyone know where I can find software to overcome this. thanks

Your question isn't clear are you trying to view them on the phone or on the computer? PC Suite is a windows program, not on the phone, you can get a word 2007 viewer from microsoft.
Quickoffice Premier 5 allows you to view and edit word 2007 docs on the phone.
    www.quickoffice.com
I've not seen any free alternatives.

  • Word 2007 compatibility with RoboHelp

Does anyone know if or when RoboHelp for Word will be
compatible with Word 2007? Can you even install RoboHelp X5 on
Office 2007 to use for RoboHelp HTML? I know that WinHelp is
deprecated for Vista. Although we have converted our ongoing
projects to WebHelp, we still have a large number of legacy help
projects that we are not going to convert.
I would like to find out if there will be a patch to make RH
X5 compatible with Office 2007, or if we need to wait until the
    next full release of RoboHelp.

RoboHelp HTML without first reinstalling Word 2003, or did Office
2007 just cause the whole program to hang?
I didn't work with RH for about half a year. In this period I
installed a new version of Norton Internet Security 2007 and MS
Office 2007. Initially my whole system hung, but there was a
workaround: let NIS stop scanning office documents on opening in
    office.
I also installed IE7 and just a few days ago a friend of mine
reported a serious problem with Macro's in Excel in combination
    with IE7.
So when I clicked the RH shortcut the other day and the
system started acting weird I had no idea what could cause the
    problem.
The symptoms were this: RH did not open at all. Instead I've
got a dialogue box stating something like 'preparing installation'
    with only a cancel button.
After waiting a wile a second dialogue opened stating
something like 'No connection to install server' with a retry and a
cancel button. Pressing the cancel button resulted in disappearing
the second dialogue, but the first remained until rebooting the
    system.
Installing a previous version of word (in my case 2003
standard edition and completely stripped) did the trick for me!

  • RoboHelp for Word cannot open Word with Word 2007

Thanks for your leignancy, I'm having trouble even starting
to work with RoboHelp. I think I need detailed explanations. I did
spend hours sifting through Robohelp's Help and this Forum, I'm
    stuck.
    I am trying to use
RoboHelp for Word 7.0 , build 001, with Word 2007 on Vista.
I need to work on help projects created with a previous
    version of RoboHelp.
For some reason, when I open RoboHelp, the .doc file opens in
Word next to it, but then RoboHelp freezes for several minutes,
then I get a dialog box that says
"RoboHelp" could not open Word .
Then anytime I try to modify a topic in my help file, I get
the same stall and error message, and my Word document stays stuck
at the beginning on my first topic.
    Also, in Word,
all Robohelp options don't work. I can't search for a topic
for instance to locate it and modify it. When I click on search for
a topic from the menu on top, nothing happens at all. If I click on
search a topic from the right-click menu, then I get a message that
because of security or confidentiality settings, the
    Macros don't work.
I tried re-activating all Macros in Word 2007 Options, I
closed everything, even re-booted the computer, but to no avail.
Also, I tried saving my .doc into a .docx (Word 2007 format)
to see if the Macros would be compatible then, but I got the exact
    same results.
Right now, RoboHelp and Word don't seem to be "talking" to
each other right, and the Macros don't work.
Plus: I tried to test a modification I made in the .doc file
by generating the WebHelp, but that didn't work either, I got an
error message saying that the file couldn't be opened, but the path
to the file was all wrong, with folder names I don't even have on
    my computer.
If someone could figure this one out for me, I'd be very
thankful, I'm the kind of person who likes something to work in a
simple, linear way, 1-2-3... This is totally confusing for me right
    now.

Ok, isn't that what I did when I re-activated the Macros in
    Word 2007?
Word Options / security - confidentiality center / Parameters
Activate all Macros (the lowest one on the list)
Did that already. Also, I made backups of my projects, and
tried with a new "brew" just in case I had messed it up along the
    way somewhere.
First thing I did when I opened it again was change the
output to WebHelp instead of WinHelp 4, since I can't open that in
    Vista anymore.
I can generate the help in that format, but either way I try
to make any modification it's not taken into account when I
    generate it.
    Example:
In the french help project which I'm working on, I had a
    tittle that was miss-spelled.
I tried modifying in in the Word .doc document, then generate
the help, but the title was still wrong.
So I tried changing in directly in Robohelp with the topic's
    properties.
When I clicked OK, it stalled forever again, and then it said
it couldn't take the modifications into account.
And any text I cut and paste or changed in the .doc on Word
    remains unchanged in the WebHelp....
Right now, the more I try, the more I'm stuck and the more
questions I get. I'm seriously thinking I'd need some live
coaching, on a chat or something, to get me started on the right
track. Is there anyone who can do that? I'm so awfully stuck right
now. And I feel like I'd unfurl a tsunami of ridiculous questions
if I posted them all on the Forum now...
    *EXTRA*
I did all the updates (7.0.3) and right now I'm re-installing
    everything.
    Arghhh.
I missed one of the last days of ski this season, spent my
    whole week-end with this.
I'm trying to sound rational and calm, but I'm actually so
tired and exasperated, I'd have jumped through the window already
if we weren't on the first floor... Still stuck at Step 1...
    What am I missing??

  • Robohook.wll and Word 2007

Is RoboHook.wll necessary for Word 2007? Is RoboHook.wll necessary for RoboHelp 8 HTML or is it a leftover from earlier versions of RoboHelp?
I am using RoboHelp 8 HTML to generate WebHelp.
My Word 2007 documents (totally unrelated to my RoboHelp projects) have a global template called RoboHook.wll. My Word documents change the style formatting of my co-worker's documents when I open them.  My employees do not have and do not need RoboHelp.
If I were to remove RoboHook.wll, will it cause issues with RoboHelp 8 HTML?
Thanks in advance for your assistance.

    Peter,
    Thank you for your reply.
We are updating everyone to Word 2007. We have narrowed it down to my environment.
I still wonder if RoboHook.wll is necessary for RoboHelp8 HTML. Any ideas?
    Thanks again.
    I'll check back on Monday!
