Robohelp X5 and structured authoring
My office does not currently use structured
authoring, but we are
moving to it. Currently when I create webhelp using RoboHelp,
I take
advantage of the Create Drop-down Hotspot and Text to enter
step-by-
step procedures for screens that have multiple functions.
When we move to structured authoring, will I have to create
topics
instead of the Drop-down Hotspot and Text or is there someway
to use
the existing Drop-down Hotspot and Text without having to
create
topics?
Any information anyone can send me on this would really help.
RoboHelp started as a Word toolbar and in some environments
there is simply nobody who can use any other editor. Others can but
prefer not to. I take the same view as Rick, if you are creating
HTML help, do so with an HTML editor.
It also means you can do things with the help that cannot be
done using Word as the editor. For example some people like a
graphic that changes when clicked such as when the user accesses
dropdown text.. It opens up many possibilities.
With Winhelp gradually dying, online help is becoming HTML
based.
BTW. You referred in your first post to Normal.dot. That is
not the template that RoboHelp for Word is applying to your
documents. In Word, look in File | Properties or look in Templates.

Live eSeminar: Migrating to and Benefiting from Structured Authoring using Adobe FrameMaker 9
A live seminar will be held by Adobe's RJ Jacquez on Friday July 24th. The background info on this is:
Migrating your existing unstructured FrameMaker documents, or Microsoft Word documents to Structured documents in Adobe FrameMaker 9, is much easier than you may think, and the benefits include the ability to enforce authoring consistency, guided authoring, real-time validation and others. In this 90-minute eSeminar, we will explore the differences between unstructured and structured documents, and the overall process of using conversion tables in Adobe FrameMaker 9 for wrapping unstructured styles into structured elements, as well as basic DITA concepts in FrameMaker.
See his blog for sign-up details: http://blogs.adobe.com/rjacquez/2009/07/migrating_to_and_benefiting_fr.htmlUsually RJ's presentations are recorded and posted later on his blog
page (http://blogs.adobe.com/rjacquez/). Not sure if all of it will be
relevant to FM8, but some will. -
RoboHelp 10 and Visual Studio 2010
The company I work for is thinking about buying RoboHelp 10 to create an offline user help system for a WPF Ribbon Application being developed in Visual Studio 2010. I have been tasked with finding the recommended output format from RoboHelp 10 AND the best viewer for Visual Studio 2010. CHM output format is not an option. I have searched the web and found nothing that addresses both products. Does anyone know the best output format to use AND/OR what is the best viewer? Any / all suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Visual Studio does have its own ability to create a help file. Here's the home page of Paul O'Rear's blog. http://blogs.msdn.com/b/thehelpguy/ You will also find information at http://www.helpware.net. You need to research that to find out if that would suit. This is not the forum for that topic.
Aside from that, the first issue is where is the help going to reside? If it is on a web server, then WebHelp would be an option. That can also be run locally but you may encounter some issues if you need links to PDF files. If the help is going to be installed locally, what's the objection to CHMs? In RoboHelp 10 they can be skinned to look like WebHelp.

RoboHelp 9 and ActionScript?
Hello. I am still quite green when it comes to the in's and out's of RoboHelp, so please pardon me if my inquiry is out-of-place in any way...
I am working on a PC/Mac compatible AIRHelp project in RoboHelp 9, and was wondering if there are any issues with authoring/inserting Actionscript? Essentially what I am looking to do is add two ActionScript source code files... the first is to be added to the project source folder and defines a particular class... the second attempts to validate a function of said class. As these source files are part of a third party purchase, I wanted to verify that this class can be interfaced once the installed .air application is launched.
I thank you in advance for your time and informationYes. It's called Technical Communication Suite upgrade
Sorry to be flippant. The whole point of TCS is that it adds the level of integration that you require but which is not available in the individual products.

This is a default behavior as a new content is added to site 2 with a different metadata so it is marked as unpublished -
Adobe RoboHelp 7 and the Adobe Technical Communication Suite have just been posted
Hi, folks.
The long-awaited Adobe RoboHelp 7 and the Adobe Technical
Communications Suite have just been posted on the Adobe website.
There are 30-day Trial versions that can be downloaded here:
http://www.adobe.com/ap/products/robohelp/
Follow the link that says "Download the trial". After you
sign in, you can download either the RoboHelp 7 standalone release,
or the Technical Communications Suite which contains these
integrated products: RoboHelp 7, FrameMaker 8, Adobe Captivate 3
and Acrobat 3D.
If you or members of your team use both RoboHelp and
FrameMaker, I'd strongly advise you take a look at Tech Comm Suite.
It's more than simply a "bundle:" of products. There is real
integration among the apps. Here are details:
http://www.adobe.com/ap/products/technicalcommunicationsuite/
For some screenshots and information, check out Peter
Grainge's website
http://www.grainge.org/pages/authoring/rh7/rh7.htm
I will also be posting some Adobe Captivate movies of the new
interface on my website in the next day or two.
http://www.hypertexas.com
You can also read more on the Adobe Tech Comm Blog
http://blogs.adobe.com/techcomm/technical_communication/
These are exciting times. Two releases in one year! I don't
think there's any doubt about Adobe's committment to RoboHelp now
Thanx,
JohnThe first thing I looked at was the upgrade price, which is I
think is pretty reasonable. I may not have made it clear in my
other post that I installed the RH7 trial with RH6 still installed.
I'm pretty sure management will spring for an upgrade, and I don't
intend to use RH6 simultaneously at that point--only while I'm
doing the trial.
The main thing I'm checking out is the double-byte character
support. One complaint I have there is that in HTML view, Japanese
characters are showing as squares. If I open the same topic file in
Notepad, the Japanese characters show up there, so I know RH7 isn't
really messing up the characters, it's just not displaying them in
HTML view. This still makes it difficult to manipulate Japanese
text in HTML view. Does anyone know if there is a way for these
characters to display in HTML view properly? Should I start a
different post? Thanks,

Does anyone know if you are able to operate RoboHELP x5 and Office 2007 without it shutting down with errors. Currently we have a help system set up and we were updated to Office 2007 late March. We are now having quite a few difficulties making changes to documents that needed updates. Usually the documents were loaded as MS Word docs and then during compiling transformed to .html files. Now with the Office 2007, RoboHELP doesn't want to import any documents because of the fact that X5 doesn't support Office 2007. Is it possible to import the files as .html files instead to sidestep this issue? Any help here would be greatly appreciated as I am a new user of RoboHELP with limited people who know how this program works.
Thanks! Not a chance. Sorry but you will have to upgrade.

Error while accessing a library using content and structure
I have a library having document and folder inside it. When I open the library using content and structure I get an error with a correlation ID. When checked the the logs with Correlation ID got an error message "View 'All Document' does not exist."
'All Document' is name of default view on the library.
When I open the library from view all site content the library is being opened.
Please help!!!Hello Victoria,
Thanks for the response.
I have tried troubleshooting steps given by you.
Check if the issue occurs with other users. Use another user to access the library in Content and Structure and then compare the results. --
I tried with different users but no luck
Make sure that the user account with issue has permission to view the All Documents view of the library. --
Yes, user Account have the permission
Check if the issue occurs with other libraries in the Content and Structure. If not, I recommend to save the library as
a template including contents and then create a new library based on this template. After that use the new library instead of the old library. --
No other library have this problem. I cannot save the library as template including the contents as the it has many folders and files. The current size of library is 786 MB
Clear cache in the browser or use another browser to see if the issue still occurs. --
tries but issue persists.

Moving files in Content and Structure View hangs on Long Running Operation Status window
Hello,
I have the following issue in a site collection: when I go to site content and structure and browse to a document library, and I select multiple documents, click actions --> move and give the target destination, the screen keeps hanging in LongRunningOperationProgress.aspx
with the message "starting" and the running circle. The files do get moved, but the screen does not come back.
In other site collections this works as normal, and when the LongRunningOperationProgress.aspx page is open, it also states (n of N files moved) or something similar. This status is missing in the faulty site collection.
When I open https:\\<site collection url>\Long%20Running%20Operation%20Status\AllItems.aspx I see that an entry is created here with title "(no title)" and Status "NotStarted".
I have included the ULS log, filtered on the thread ID. I am sure there are some clues there (like Invalid text value. A text field contains invalid data. Please check the value and try again.<nativehr>0x81020018</nativehr><nativestack></nativestack>),
but I can't figure out where to start solving this problem. The Windows event logs don't give any errors. This issue exists on both web front ends (tested locally). The farm is using 14.0.6106.5002.

From your error message, this occurs when the value you supplied for a text field is larger than 255 characters. To address the problem, store less text in the field
or change the field type from text to note.

How do I retrieve my iTunes library from a broken computer onto another computer?? I've clicked on home sharing and also authorized the new computer to my account but still nothing!
It would help if you would describe what a 'broken' computer is. Did a truck run over it? Does it just not turn on? etc.

Hi All,
On my SharePoint Online site (Office 365) all my “Site Content and Structure” default views are showing “There are no items to show in this view”. For example the “Checked out To Me” view shows “There are no items to show in this view” (shown in screenshot
below). I know this is incorrect and should show at least ten items that have been checked out to me for over two months. I am also a member of the Site Collection Administration and Owner groups.
What I am trying to do is view all the "Checked Out items" within a Site Collection including it's sub-sites.
Is there a feature that needs to be activated to get the correct information from the “Site Content and Structure” default views?
I hope you can help
ColinHi Colin,
As I understand, all “Site Content and Structure” default views are showing “There are no items to show in this view” in your SharePoint online site.
Check things below:
1. Go to site content and structure logs in site setting to check if there is correct information.
2. Create a new site collection to check if there are items in Site Content and Structure.
3. Switch another computer to check if it can work.
If the issue still exists, I recommend you to post it in the O365 forum.
http://community.office365.com/en-us/f/default.aspx
The reason why we recommend posting appropriately is you will get the most qualified pool of respondents, and other partners who the forums regularly can either share their knowledge or learn from your interaction with us. Thank you for your understanding.

Hi ,
earlier we are moving a page ,document from one site to another sub site with in the Site Collection.
Now,we are getting a un-readable format error.
After selecting the destination we are getting the error.
and the file can't move.
What might me be the error.
Expecting answers related to my question.
1.As we can do using Internet Explorer,
2. Using Send To also we can move.
Using this Site Content and structure we can maintain Versoining also.
If any one face the same issue then we can easily find out the solution.

Content and Structure (Error in callback).
Guys
Every time I accessed the "Content and Structure" of a particular site I would an error in callback error. Tracing this back I found a particular list was / is causing the error. So googling around the general consensus seemed to suggest doing
the following to resolve the error.
1. Recreate the list, or
2. Delete the list and restore it from the recycle bin.
The first option was a non starter so I reluctantly decided to do the 2nd which worked. My main issue with this is that the list is displayed on a lot of different pages all with different filters which are a pain to restore as they disappear once the list
is deleted. Anyway as I say this worked however once the overnight jobs had run the error returned in the morning.
So
1. How can I resolve this issue without doing either of the above?
2. What overnight jobs are likely to corrupt a lists?
Thanks,
DAll right -- here you go
