RoboHelp X5 HTML and ClearCase 7

We use RoboHelp X5 for help file creation. We upgraded our version control system to Rational ClearCase 7 recently. Since then, we noticed that RoboHelp HTML did not work. On giving run command, curser goes busy for a while and nothing happens further. However, In the Windows Taskbar under Process menu, we can see RoboHTML.exe as a running process that uses about 10 MB of memory. But the program doesn't launch.
I searched with specific keywords and found this:
https://www-304.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?rs=984&uid=swg21258563&rat lid=cctocbody
They give a workaround of a software upgrade/downgrade! Right now we do not have a provision for an upgrade or downgrade as per the company policy. But, there are two systems with the same softwares installed and working fine. But those who use it however have no clue of the workaround. It just worked!
This means that there is a fix or workaround available. I searched with all possible keywords and combination, yet did not get any clue. At least if we can identify the real cause, as to why this clearcase installation affects RH, it would help in finding a workaround.
If anyone has a clue, pls help. We depend upon the two working systems whenenver we have to work on RoboHTML. This causes a lot of inconvenience as well as loss of time and effort.

I think only the two vendors could tell you that and maybe they don't know. It could be one or both of them changed something that meant the conflict went away.
It sounds like you are working for a software company and I guess you want all your customers to upgrade to each new version but you will not update even when you hit a barrier. You have two packages that will not work together (the brick wall) and you have to produce updated help (the unstoppable object).
Good luck slogging this one out with your management.

  • RoboHelp 10 HTML - Contextual Help Capabilities

    Hello!
Our company wants to serve help content relevant to the module the current user is in when they access help.  I can only imagine utilizing conditional tagging as an option with RoboHelp 10 HTML and conditionally publishing sections to different folders on our webserver and having each module of our software call help content from our webserver.  However I was wondering if there is a more dynamic approach available that I may be overlooking whether it be in RoboHelp 10 HTML or RoboHelp Server.
THANK you for your time and have a great weekend!
    Kevin

The nearest thing to what you need is Content Categories. Take a look at Dynamic User Centric Content in the Rh9 section of the RoboHelp Tour on my site.
The Employee Care sample project also ships with Rh10 so that you can see how it is set up.
The difference is that to limit the search and content, the user would have to select from a dropdown to limit what they see. I don't think anyone has come up with a way of opening the help to different categories.
The alternative would be to use merged help and have your developers call the child project for the module in the way you suggest. As a user that would annoy me because the full help would not be available, although you could create links to it.
Personally I think the best way is to open the full help at the relevant topic. The topic will be synchronised to that section of the TOC so the user can see where they are.

  • RoboHelp 8 HTML - Open Hyperlinks in a New Browser Window

    [email protected]
    Hi all,
I’m new to the RoboHelp community and have an issue I have not yet seen addressed elsewhere in the forums. I’m working in RoboHelp 8 HTML and am generating webhelp. My question is regarding hyperlink options. The option for open in a new window opens topics and links in a new tab. Is there a method, hacking or otherwise, for having the links open in a new browser window?
    Much thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Welcome to Adobe forum,
As I understand you are trying to open the hyperlinks in a new window instead of a tab.
Well it is possible in Robohelp 8 HTML
Here are the steps which you need to follow.
    1. Select the text Right click on it and then select Insert Hyperlink.
Once you click on the Insert Hyperlink another Popup window will appear in your screen.
You need to check this screenshot and select the appropriate option.
Try and generate the Webhelp and see if that helps you,
I hope that will resolve your issue. Please reply if that resolves your issue.
    Thanks
    Priyank

  • ROBO 8 (Adobe RoboHelp 8 HTML has encountered a problem and needs to close.

I am really getting frustrated with RoboHelp 8 (HTML).  It will work for a day or two then when I try to open it, it will not open and give the message above.  I have to unzip a copy and it will let me open it.  I can work for awhile and then it will give that message and I loose what I have worked on since the last time I closed it and zipped it.  I am tired of zipping it several times a day.  I am wasting a lot of time doing this.  What needs to be done to fix this problem for good?

1] Have you applied the two patches that have been released?  Yes.  However after I applied them, it would not allow me to even open any ROBO project.  I uninstalled them and then ROBO worked fine for a couple of weeks, then started giving me same problem as before which is it would not open and gave me the message above.
2] Is it also one or a number of specific topics?  It would not even allow me to open that project.  I had to unzip a copy and then I could open that one until it got corrupt.
3] Is it a specific action?  Opening project using ROBO or going into the folder and opening it with the xpj file.
4] Is your project on a network drive?  No.  It is on my desktop.
5] Have you tried renaming the CPD file? - See Opening RH Projects on my site.  Yes.  That did not work either.  It still would not open.
I just downloaded the patches again.  I just opened the project that I was working on yesterday afternoon.  That one had not crashed yet.  I will let you know if I have anymore problems with it.

  • Visual Source Safe and RoboHelp for HTML

Do you ever successfully use Visual Source Safe for RoboHelp
for HTML? I got error when I checked out the file, looks like file
format in RoboHelp is not supported in Visual Source Safe. Can
somebody share the experience? Thanks a lot!

    Hey, Cathy!
The RoboSource Control in X5 was "adequate" in its day. But
remember, that was nearly 4 years ago
The problem was that the "free" Access database was not
really robust enough and to really make use of it, you need to use
MS SQL Server, which is expensive.
That was then. This is now. The RoboSource Control 3 that
comes with RoboHelp 6 is WAY more better
This is because, it allows you to use a free version of MS
SQL Server Express for a much more robust database.
So my advice would be to upgrade to RoboHelp 6 for sure. It's
not just hype. If for some reason you can't upgrade, then you might
be able to get away with the Access Database given that there are
only two of you. Since you already have it, you could create a
little test bed project and try it out. (I have a suggestion for
how to do that in my article. See link below)
For the lowdown on RoboSource Control 3 see this Matthew
    Ellison's fine article

started with RoboSource Control 3 in RoboHelp 6
If you're interested in the "old" RoboSource Control that
comes with X5, you can check out my article to get you started.

  • Converting RoboHelp 7 HTML Project to RoboHelp 9 for Word Project?

Due to complications in localization, I've been asked to evaluate authoring in doc files instead of HTMs, since the tool we use for localization (Across Server) seems to work better (or so we're told) with doc files.
I've only authored in RoboHelp HTML with a CHM output for the last several years, so I'm unfamiliar with RH for Word. But I have used Doc-to-Help many years ago, so I'm somewhat familiar with the implications of using doc files.
How would I go about doing this conversion? Is there some utility that does this, or is the best way to export to a printed output and then import that output into a new project?
I'm also going to evaluate this using RH 9 since I'm considering upgrading from RH 7. I only have Word 2003.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jared

RoboHelp for Word has only had minimal changes for the last two versions. Take a hint. Also enhancements to RoboHelp HTML outputs have not been mirrored.
I suggest you do some work in RoboHelp for Word and see how much you enjoy it.
As for conversion, open RoboHelp for Word and see the import options. Your idea seems to be the way to go, if you really really have to.
Oh, one more thing, you will not get much help in the RoboHelp for Word forum because there is hardly any user to user support.

  • Importing Word Documents to RoboHelp 7 HTML

    Hi,
We are using RoboHelp 7 HTML for our project requirements.
The approach we adopted is as follows -
1.) Develop content in MS Word 2003 with proper formatting
including the styles defined for tables, fonts, paragraphs, various
levels of headings etc. We will have high number of word documents
which need to be reviewed by the SMEs before putting them in
    RoboHelp.
2.) Copy the content to RoboHelp. We are using the File >
Import > Word Document. We find the following issues in the word
    documents thus imported -
a.) Formatting errors like the font of the numbered list is
not consistent. The numbers have a different font while the ontent
    has a different font.
b.) The content in Tables is also not properly indented. It
    touches the borders.
c.) Foreign characters are being introduced wherever
double-quotes are used. Eg: ”r;Other” (it should have
    been "Other")
How do we address the above-listed issues? How do we get the
same output in RoboHelp as can be seen in the formatted word
document? Do you suggest any better alternative?
    Thanks & Regards,
    Anil

1] Yes. Non-RH users develop the content.
2a & 2b] What I have noticed is that the numbers appear
in Times New Roman while the content appears in Arial after
importing. As mentioned, we have lot of documentation (many word
documents). So each word doc I import, a CSS gets generated and
editing them itself is a herculean task. Is there any work around
this so that we can gain time and carry out the import smoothly?
2c] Could not find the patch in your website. One of your
posts says that it is Item 21. But cannot find any downloadable
    link.
As suggested I tried reading the article in Printed
Documentation. But really didn't know which one you were referring
    to.
    Regards,
    Anil

  • RoboHelp 8 HTML import of Word file does not create topics

    I imported a large Word file (350+ pages, 4Mb) into RoboHelp 8 HTML (8.0208).
In the status bar at the bottom of the screen, it said "Converting filename.doc..." with a progress bar and then (way too fast for a large file) it said "Ready".
RoboHelp created the project files (.xpj, empty .hhc, etc.) and NO topics.
I tried several times, with and without conversion settings.  I tried opening an empty project first and then importing the file, but no luck.
The original file had a few tracked changes and footers which I removed.
I tried copying the file and deleting all but one heading and paragraph.
    Nothing helped.
A friend with RoboHTML 2002 was able to convert it with no problem.
By the way, when I converted the file to.rtf, I was able to import it and compile it.  But this is not the optimal way to do it.
    Any suggestions are welcome.
    Thank you,
    Leeba Salzman

    Hi there
So sorry. My bad. Upon re-reading what I replied to I see that. I really should have read more carefully. Then again, I'm fighting the beginnings of a head cold today. ICK!
What if you take an approach I've seen my dear friend Peter suggest from time to time. Make a copy of that Word document. Slice off the bottom half and try importing the first half. If that works, you know the issue is in the bottom half. If not, repeat the process and try the other half. Work that way until you either get it all imported or until you isolate the problem area.
    Cheers... Rick

  • Losy images after importing Word document into RoboHelp 7 HTML

We imported a simple Word document into RoboHelp 7 HTML, as a
    new project (from scratch).
Everything worked out pretty well (afterall, this was just a
simple Word document), and we expect to have to tweak the styles,
    etc. That is understood.
However, the images that were embedded in the Word document
(as opposed to saved to disk, and only linked to the Word document)
do not look very nice in the RoboHelp 7 HTML project topics.
When we browse to the iamge folder, and view the actual image
files, these images do not look too bad. But in the Design View,
the images have display issues (solid color bars on the
sides/top/bottom of the images). When we compile to a Single Source
Layout (except PDF), the images look fine again. When we create
Printed Documentation, even for the best PDF-settings, the images
look terrible -- smudgy, like low resolution quality).
    1) Except for storing the images outside of the Word document
before importing, and then manually linking them back into the
imported RoboHelp HTML files, is there a way to maximize the
quality of the imported Word images in RoboHelp HTML?
    2) Why doe the images look worse in Printed Documenation
(PDF), even for the highest PDF settings, than for the other Single
    Source Layouts?
While I am typing, I realized that we should try to include
the images in Word via a link to the image files on disk. Perhaps
then RoboHelp will not actually modify the image files during
import. I will report back about this one.
Your help will be greatly appreciated!

    Looks perfect, works terribly...
    Things to consider:
Chances are, the different treatments of the space are due to whether the space was included in the bolding of the word in MS Word.
Additionally, since Word files contain much underlying binary code (macros and such), your security settings might or might not be playing well with the Word stuff.
Are you importing the Word file from a network location, or from your local machine? Network traffic might be partially impacting the import, too.
Bottom line? You'll probably need to clear all formatting in the Word file and redo the formatting properly. To test this, cut a couple of pages into a new Word file, clear and redo the formatting in Word, import the Word file into another RH project, and see what results you get.
    To clear the formatting:
    Select text.
On the Home tab, in the Font group, click Clear Formatting.
Redo the formatting, being careful to not format the spaces.
    Good luck,
    Leon

  • RoboHelp 8 HTML runtime error on version control sync

I have a user of RoboHelp 8 HTML that is receiving a runtime error after opening a project that syncs files from our revision control server with RoboSource. When she receives the error there are no error codes just a very "generic" error.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled all the Adobe programs on her laptop and updated any Microsoft C++ Packages.
I have found a work around for the problem but it still doesnt resolve the original issue of crashing when she opens the project. To not get the runtime error she created an empty project and opened it first. Once we close that project she can open the project that gives the error with no issues.
I'm at a loss of what the issue could be as I have eliminated many issues including user based profiles issues as she logged onto a different computer with RoboHelp and was able to open the project with no issues.
    Any ideas anyone?
    Myles

I'm wondering if she is checking in files that shouldn't be checked in.
    See Snippet 116 at http://www.grainge.org/pages/snippets/snippets.htm
If that is not it, I don't know the answer. I will move this thread to the source control forum in the hope it gets a response there.

  • RoboHelp 7 for Word versus RoboHelp 7 HTML

RoboHelp 7 for Word versus RoboHelp 7 HTML
Can someone explain very simply when and why you use one but
not the other? I'm a little confused. We have RoboHelp 7 Server
installed and I think using RoboHelp 7 is the way to go, and I know
the server does allow to track usage, frequently viewed, etc. I
guess I just don't understand the purpose of RoboHelp 7 for Word -
what it is used for and it's capabilities when compared to HTML.
I have tons of pages of process documentation created from
Word. I need to make these available online thru RoboHelp, so am
just looking at different ways to distribute and explore all my
options. We're currently experiencing difficulties in publishing
RoboHelp HTML projects to the server.
    Thanks!

    Hi hughbetcha
If your output is going to be HTML based (and if you have
RoboHelp Server, it will be) then I would recommend RoboHelp HTML
    hands down.

  • "HH_GET_WIN_TYPE has not been specified" in Robohelp 9 HTML

Hi there. I know this error has been around before, but I have not found any solution to fix my problem. I imported a Robohelp x5 project into Robo 9 HTML, and everything seemed to import fine. I compiled the project, and everything works except for when I try to go to a topic by clicking on its TOC link. I then get the "hh_get_win_type has not been specified" error, and if I click on the message, it'll eventually go away and then the topic will correctly open. (Any links in the main frame work properly with no error message.) Obviously I need to fix this before sending it out. The specific window it mentions is not used in the project settings any more, so I just can't delete it. Does anybody have a suggestion for this? Thanks, Mark.

Something you mentioned in your original post is begging a question. You said you couldn't delete the window from the project despite it not being used anywhere. Is that because it won't let you, or some other reason. If it won't let you, there must still be a reference to it somewhere in your project. You could try deleting your projectnam.cpd file and reopening the project.

  • RoboHelp 9 HTML FlashHelp Search Functionality

Using RoboHelp 9 HTML with FlashHelp output. FlashPlayer is fully updated, as is RH.
Whenever I access the generated help files, and attempt to Search on any word/phrase, I get a continuous Search (the "progress" bar moves back and forth under the "Searching.." indicator), and it never stops. No results are returned.
I've searched on this, but while I saw results that some words have not been found in the past, I've not seen anything posted about a never-ending search.
Any help on this would be appreciated.
    Thanks!
    Rich

When you use View I would expect the search to work. The other methods might not work as you then get into Flash security issues.
Create a new project with just a couple of topics. Test that and post back to tell me it is working.

  • Mass Image Change within RoboHelp 7 HTML

I am a new user to RoboHelp and have recently inherited a project form another person.
The project was created using RoboHelp 7 HTML
In this large help project there are over 700 images each named Image1, Image2, Imange3,.....Image700.
Now alot of these images needs to be edited, changed, or all together redone. Is there a way to do find for Image365 and replace it with an updated image called Img_BetterDescriptiveName?

    Hi folks
In addition to what my esteemed colleague Peter offered, you would probably be able to use a good Find and Replace tool to accomplish this by having the tool trawl through all the HTML pages and perform the deed.
ReplacEm or FAR wold probably work well for this.
I'd avoid using the Find and Replace tool included with RoboHelp.

I have RoboHelp 7 HTML. I'm fairly new and inherited a project. I did not realize that the glossary did not get generated when I compiled the project. How do I add the glossary to the TOC or what do I have to do so that the glossary is part of the project after it's generated?

    Hi again
On the outside chance you haven't sorted this, what I meand by the Single Source Layouts was that you should examine the properties of the WebHelp Single Source Layouts.
First, ensure the pod is visible by clicking View > Pods > Single Source Layouts.
Next, right-click the WebHelp layout and choose Properties.
Click Next and you should see the options. You may need to enable the Glossary here.
