RoboSource Control Admin Permissions

From within RoboSource control, the Admin checkbox in the Admin user account was deselected. RoboSource threw an error when I tried to re-select it, saying I (as admin) didn't have permission. It closed, and now I cannot log into the dbs as Admin (or any other account). How can I reset the Admin account for our database? Is there a file on the server that I can edit to do this outside of the GUI?

Hi, Efilip, and welcome to the board. Do you recall having made that change to the settings? If not, it's possible that rebooting your server will restore it to sanity. When our server hasn't been rebooted for a while, one of the problems that tends to arise is that account permissions get strange. This clears up with the reboot.
On the other hand, I remember accidentally removing admin permissions from an account. Had I not had another admin account set up, I would have been in the same position you're in, as RSC Explorer wouldn't let me do anything to remedy the situation.
There might be a way to change the setting, as you suggest, but I'm not aware of it. Perhaps your SQL administrator can help? Barring that, and if rebooting the server doesn't help (or reverting to an earlier backup of the db isn't practical), then you should probably contact Adobe support to see if they can tell you how to reset the admin rights.

  • RoboSource Control 3 Explorer - Admin access and adding users

Just started in a department where users working with RoboHelp HTML 7 are connected to a Windows XP PC on which RoboSource Control 3 Explorer is being used for version control.  The two guys who set up the system are no longer available.  I have the login for one of them, but do not know if he was the Admin or a subadmin in RoboSource Control.  When I go to Admin>User Library, I get the following screen.
    - None of the users show any rights checked.  - That's the first problem.
    - Is there any way that I can determine if the login I'm using is the real Admin?  Does the fact that I have access to the User Library tell me anything about this?
    - When I try to add a user, I get the error message "Error - you have insufficient rights to perform this operation."
    - I need to be able to add users and have Admin level control.  If the login I have is from the actual Admin, then I might be okay.  But if not, am I out of luck?  If that's the case, is my only option to take the following steps?
       1. Have a user check out all the project files.
       2. Disassociate those files from the RoboSource Control machine.  (There are hundred of topics in the project files.)
       3. Set up a new RoboSource Control with myself as the Admin.
    Thanks!

Umm, I'm not sure if it's the same issue, but recently all user rights for every single user in the user library (including the admin) went missing much like yours. I know for a fact that my user profile had admin rights, but at that time, no rights were checked for any user. (The admin user will have, if I'm correct, all the rights selected).
I still don't know what caused the issue, but a simple restart of the server that hosts RoboSource Control was enough to restore permissions in our case. Maybe you could try that and see if the restart helps? Considering that the alternative is setting up a new RSC database, I would think it's worth a shot

  • Errors installing RoboSource Control

I cannot successfully install RoboSource Control 3.1, which
is part of the Technical Communications Suite that I recently
bought. I am trying to install it on a computer running
(factory-installed) Vista. I get error messages that state that
NGMenu.dll and DirBkgndExt.dll "failed to register." HRESULT
2147024891. I previously had downloaded the trial version of
RoboHelp, which included the trial version of RoboSource Control. I
uninstalled both prior to installing the Tech Comm Suite.
I have opened a support case with Adobe and have talked
numerous times with their technical support staff. We have tried
many different things that they have suggested, but thus far have
not solved the problem. I have tried installing in simplified mode,
installing in selective startup mode, and manually registering the
dlls (with Regsvr32). My system has no viruses. I made sure to run
my virus checking software prior to installation. I've run the
error checking tool to make sure that there are no damaged sectors
or fragmented files on my hard disk. That looks fine. I've tried
uninstalling and re-installing the entire Tech Comm pkg, RoboHelp
and RHSource Control together, and RHSource Control by itself. At
the instruction of Adobe Tech support, I deleted the RoboHelp,
RoboHTML, and RoboSource Control keys in the registry under
    "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Adobe" and
    "HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software/Adobe."
I checked permissions on my user account -- the one I use to
log on to my operating system with. This account has administrator
permissions. I am the only person using my computer, and I am using
this user account when I install the RHSource Control and Tech Comm
Suite. My user account also has full read/write permissions in the
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE branch of the Registry.
At Adobe Tech Support's request, I also tried disabling
    Windows Vista User Access Control.
None of these things have worked, and unless Adobe's Tech
Support provides other ideas, I don't know how to solve this
    problem.
Has anyone had a similar problem, or does anyone have any
ideas about what may be causing this problem. I would be very
grateful for any information you can provide!

You do not have to uninstall the previous version of
    RoboSource Control first.

  • RoboSource Control licensing

    Hello
Can I install the RoboSource client on multiple computers?
I am proposing to have 3 users running RoboHelp making use of
RoboSource Control but I was wondering whether I can give access to
the source control to other users so that they can version control
    their word documents.
Is there any licence restrictions on installing the
    RoboSource Control client?
    regards
    James

Thanks for the reply to this problem.  We discovered that the 2 files were checked out by an employee that was no longer with our company.  We used the following steps to check in the files from RSC using Admin. Rights:
Launch RoboSource > find the file(s) that is "checked-out" > if the author can not check the file back in then right click on the file > select Properties > a popup box will appear > select the tab "Check Outs" > select the name of the person who has the file checked out > select undo Check-Out.
We may have lost some minor edits within the 2 files but this seems to have solved the problem in RH HTML of not being able to add additional topics to the overall project file.

  • Unable to add a Project File in RoboSource Control

Hi this is Savana Chandra Shekhar,
I am working on RoboHelp 9 with RoboSource Control 3.
Scanario 1: There are two users who want to work on the same project file from different location using RoboHelp  and using version control 3. we have a server located in US and i myself located in India. Now, when i am trying to add or load the Project file in Robosource, i am unable to load or add the project file as the file size is around 160 MB.
Scanario 2: When i am using "add to version control" option after setting up the connection (By Proving : Connection Name, Server, Port No., Port Type), i am getting the as displayed below. Please refer the Image attached.
I will be greatful to you if you can please provide some firm solution regarding this issue.
    Thanks

    Database: MARSHelpSource
    to database,

I can.  This is a bug you are seeing we will have fixed in a future release.  You are working in a "Local" form (not an online form) and that "Add submit button" should not be shown at all, that is only for an online form.  If you move your form online when signed in, then it would have a Submit button automatically in Web View and in Page View would be able to be turned on and off.
    Thanks,

  • RoboSource Control Server 3.1 on Windows Server 2008 64-bit?

I was wondering if anyone has had any success running the RoboSource Control (Server) on Windows Server 2008 R2 64-bit.  I experienced two dialog boxes near the end of the install.
Item has already been added.  Key in dictionary: '_reserved_lastInstallerAttempted'
    Key being added: '_reserved_lastInstallerAttempted'
    and
The installer has encountered an unexpected error installing this package.  This may indicate a problem with this package.  The error code is 2869.
Then, it backs out all the changes it has made, and exits the installer.  At least it fails gracefully ...
The reason why I ask this is mostly due to the fact that Windows Server 2008 R2 is ONLY issued in 64-bit editions.  There will be no more 32-bit editions.

Although this post is three years old, I am getting the same problem now (June 2012) trying to install either the Client or Server components on a Windows 7 64-bit system. If anyone out there knows of a solution to this, I'd appreciate a reply.

  • Checking in a Compiled Help File to RoboSource Control

We're getting ready to upgrade from RoboHelp X3 to X5 and
begin using RoboSource Control. I have X5 and RSC installed on a
test machine and noticed that RoboHelp HTML doesn't appear to
automatically check in a newly compiled .chm file when I close that
particular help project. This leads me to believe that the only way
to check in a newly compiled .chm file is to do so manually from
within the RoboSource Control explorer program. Could someone
please confirm this or, if I'm mistaken, describe how to configure
RoboSource Control/RoboHelp HTML to automatically check in the .chm
    file?
    Thanks!

RoboSource Control manages all files which are part of a
RH-project. The compiled CHM is not consiodered part of the
project. Considering that the source control system allows for
rollbacks and would have to maintain (nearly) all your compiled
files to do so, this method makes sense.

  • Errors when try to start RoboSource Control 3.1

I was just issued a new desktop PC (Windows 7 SP1, 64 bit) at work. I have had to reload all of my software including AdobeTCS 3.5.
After installing TCS 3.5, Adobe RoboSource Control 3.1 is a separate folder under the main Adobe folder (Program FIles (x86) > Adobe > Adobe RoboSource Control 3.1).  So it should be "installed."
I have also downloaded the RoboSource 64 bit fix and copied it into the Adobe RoboSource Control 3.1 folder (renaming the original version of the file).
Note that RoboSource Control Server is installed on a separate server machine.
When I click RSO3Explore.exe to start the app, I first get a message that the Publisher cannot be verified (I select Run), and then I get the message that "RSO3 Explorer Component has stopped Working" and then "RSO3 Middle Tier Server Component has stopped Working".  I am forced to close the program.
In Task Manager > Processes, I have 2 instances of  "RSO3MiddleTierService.exe *32" running.
In Task Manager > Services, I have no instance of  "RSO3MiddleTierService.exe *32" running.
When I run services.msc, I see no instance of any RoboHelp service running.
I don't know what's wrong..... has anyone else  using RoboSource Control seen this problem?
    Thanks!

  • Unable to manually add topics to TOC in RoboHelp 11 when working with RoboSource Control 3.1

    Hello,
I am working on RoboHelp11 and using RoboSource Control 3.1.  I am facing an issue while making an attempt to manually add new topics to the TOC (drag and drop), the error alert ' 'xxxxxx.hhc cannot be multiply Checked out' and further the alert 'The files in the list below could not be checked out from Version Control. Exclusive access to these files is required to execute the selected action.' appears.  Note that the said project file is checked out only by me and no else in the team has checked it out from source control..
Can someone provide guidance on how to resolve this issue.

I am having this same problem.
Updated itunes to 7.0 on my pC
    Updated 30GB Video ipod's firmware...
Cound no longer manually sync files to ipod...
    Files start uploading..
Then 1/2 way through the procedure, itunes says something Like "Updating ipod please wait"
and a few seconds later just stops with the upload.
I cant find the uploaded files on the ipod.
I tried updating itunes to 7.01 - no luck
I tried restoring my ipod - no luck

  • Which should we use: TFS or RoboSource Control?

We have two authors working on one project. Our dev team uses TFS. I don't have a preference for which source control solution we use, I just want it to be easy to work on our topics. From the search I've done, it looks like both are accessed from within RoboHelp, but I'm not 100% on that.
Why should I pick one solution over the other?

    Hi,
You can use both Source Control systems. If your developers are already using TFS, it might be easier to use that too. For RoboSource control you need to create a new database on a server and connect to that. Why bother if you already have TFS ready to use? Personally, I use TFS because the developers wanted me to use the same source control system as them. Before that I used VSS, but either worked for me. I suspect it will be the same for most other source control systems.
For more info on using RoboSource control, see: http://www.adobe.com/devnet-archive/robohelp/articles/robosource.html

  • Make mobile account with admin permissions without administrator INFO...

How do you bypass the admin permissions with mobile account? How do you make mobile account unlock things? You do you do the secret and rare system administrator login screen, where it says up on the top System Administrator, where nothing would be there? How to force your computer to go to single user mode, not command s or apple s, because that doesn't work for me? How do enable isight -camera without no admin password, no terminal? Is there extension for mac so that it will run and unlock things or open programs without administrator permissions? I need something that will UNLOCK MY macbook, please help. Where can I download password reset.APP for free that comes in the mac os x leopard disc? Thanks for the help...

Why don't you just use your OS X install disc? It has a password reset utility on it.

  • Mac OS X 10.5 destroyed my Admin permissions

Ok. I had originally installed Mac OS X 10.5 on my Macbook, but the hard drive got screwed due to an impact on the floor while running Windows XP. I decided to install 10.5 on my Mac Mini, and for some reason, my Admin permissions were destroyed. No Admin account is available, and it says my account (which is the only account on there) is a standard account. I tried to reset the password, but that failed. Can anyone help?

I wouldn't THINK it is private: it is in the User Tips forum, and it would seem rather counter-productive for that to be private. I hope no one, like Michael (whom I think the world of) gets mad at me, but here it is:
Re: I lost my admin user

    Revised to incorporate Niel's corrections:
I lost my admin user (OS X 10.5)
If you are unfortunate enough to delete your only admin user, or remove his admin capability, then as long as you have another user with login capability, you can give that user admin rights as shown below. You can then re-create the original user or reinstate the admin capability using the Accounts Pane in System Preferences.
Print this post out in a mono-spaced font, and type carefully, paying attention to spaces and punctuation, since you cannot copy/paste in Single User mode.
Caution: in single user mode you have root privileges. Be careful! Substitute the name of 'youruser' below.
Boot into single user mode (Command-S) at startup which will eventually get you a shell prompt (ending in #). Then type the following:
    fsck -fy
Repeat the above until it says your disk is OK. Then continue with
    mount -uw /
dscl . -merge /groups/admin users youruser
If you get a message saying "invalid path", then type these two commands first:
    dscl . -create /groups/admin gid 80
    dscl . -create /groups/admin passwd '*'
and then repeat the "dscl ... -merge" command. Then:
    reboot
You will now be able to login as 'youruser' and have administrative privileges.
Membership of the 'admin' group is the only thing that distinguishes administrative users from ordinary users.

  • Upgrading robosource control from 3.0 to 3.1

    Hi,
Our doc. group will be upgrading robosource control from 3.0
to 3.1. I can't find much documentation on this. I know that there
are both clent and server upgrades for 3.1. Other than running both
the client and server upgrades, is there anything else that we
should be aware of or may need to do to complete the upgrade (and
successfully connnect to our exisitng database)??
We've already sucessfully upgraded from RH 6 to RH 7.
Any info. you can provide is appreciated.
    thanks,
    Brad

There must be loads of people who still use Precision 670s and I fail to understand why Microsoft would block using 8.1 for this model (or its processor).
Perhaps not.  I had my last Precision 470 (same Dell design era) die late last year (it was running Vista x64 nicely at the time).  I tried to resurrect it but when I opened it up I found the plastic parts just were falling apart.  I finally
determined the problem to be on the motherboard somewhere and, given the power of modern systems, I just kicked it to the curb and integrated all the duties it was performing into the other systems we have.  The processors in the Precision 470/670
line are getting near 10 years old.  That's an eternity in modern computing terms.
As far as failing to understand...  At some point every software author must make a decision whether to continue to build their systems to run on old hardware, or use instructions that only newer hardware supports in order to take advantage of
the additional power and capability it provides.

  • Does Adobe RoboSource Control provide a facility of access restriction on the WebHelp output?

I need to publish a WebHelp document that can be accessed only by a specific group of people.
In order to ensure that only the specificied group of people access the document, can it be restricted by aligning it with individual user ID/pwd? Is there any facility provided by RoboHelp/RoboSource Control to restrict access through individual User ID / password?
    - If yes, how can it be implemented?
    - If not, is there any other alternative?
Some direction would be really helpful. Thank you!

RoboSourceControl is just a source control application. It certainly does not have the sort of functionality you require. Neither would any source control application. You have some options though.
Publish your WebHelp to location that can be secured to a specific group of people. Your IT people can help here.
Purchase a RoboHelp Server licence and output WebHelp Pro rather than WebHelp. RoboHelp Server allows you to restrict access to users with a userid / password.
If PDF is an option, output to that and secure the PDF file to those with the supplied password.
