RoboSource Licensing?

We purchased two licenses for RHx7 and (YAY!!!) RH now has
multi-author capability (I was stuck on x4).
My architectural solution is to place RoboSource Control
client on the two author's machines that have RH, and having a SQL
database with RSC server instance.
Software Compliance decided to check with Adobe about
licensing concerns with placing the RSC server instance on a
machine (SQL Server) that didn't have a purchased license of
RoboHelp. I tried to explain that this shouldn't be the case, that
all RSC is doing is providing an interface for the source files (we
are installing per the excellent article that M. Ellison wrote).
Adobe told them we needed RoboHelp server. I think this is
unnecessary, we have our own publication & feedback solution
(due to business continuity requirements).
I have looked high and low on this site concerning RSC
installation and haven't been able to find anything pertinent to
licensing. It seems that because this was shipped with RH7, it was
understood by Adobe that we needed this to use a multi-authoring
environment and if needed, one could place RSC Server on a server
to act as the repository for the source files.
Does anyone know the answer?

heavywriter, I have replied to your query on another thread
that you don't need RoboHelp Server to use RoboSource Control
Server. Best usage of RoboSource Control Server is as M Ellison
wrote in his article.

  • RoboSource Control licensing

    Hello
Can I install the RoboSource client on multiple computers?
I am proposing to have 3 users running RoboHelp making use of
RoboSource Control but I was wondering whether I can give access to
the source control to other users so that they can version control
    their word documents.
Is there any licence restrictions on installing the
    RoboSource Control client?
    regards
    James

Thanks for the reply to this problem.  We discovered that the 2 files were checked out by an employee that was no longer with our company.  We used the following steps to check in the files from RSC using Admin. Rights:
Launch RoboSource > find the file(s) that is "checked-out" > if the author can not check the file back in then right click on the file > select Properties > a popup box will appear > select the tab "Check Outs" > select the name of the person who has the file checked out > select undo Check-Out.
We may have lost some minor edits within the 2 files but this seems to have solved the problem in RH HTML of not being able to add additional topics to the overall project file.

  • RoboHelp hangs at startup and using robosource control

    Hi everybody,
I am relatively new to this forum. I have been using RH X5.02
    now for a few months.
    |'m quite pleased with it until now and find all postings
    here very useful.
So I was content until last monday when I returned from a
    holiday of 10 days.
Normally I start RH by clicking a link to RoboHTML.exe from
    my desktop.
Instead of asking me which of my projects to open I got
    ZILCH.
RH just hangs, the only way to stop is to use task manager to
    end the process.
The same happens when I want to add a project to version
    control.
the icons of my 'Most recently used file list' (Tools -
Options - General) contain a big red question mark.
I can't remember seeing that before.
Based on previous postings I unchecked 'Save without prompt'.
    This didn't change anything.
I did experiment installing PushOK CVS SCC NT interface (v
2.1.1.2) to be able to use the Turtoise CVS version control system
    which seemed to work OK.
I didn't decide to use the PushOK and Turtoise system yet,
but kept on using RoboSource control. I didn't uninstall the PushOK
interface as I wanted to do an extra test on our central Turtoise
    CVS system later.
I had to renew the trial license for PushOK's software when I
came back. This came up when I started RoboHTML the first time
    after my holiday.
As I suspected that this extra interface could have something
to do with my problems I uninstalled and reinstalled all software,
without reinstalling the PushOK software. I did take the projects
out of version control before I uninstalled everything.
I expected to have no problems after all this, but to my
    surprise it didn't change anything.
I suspect it has to be something in the registry and/or the
    project files themselves.
I am working on several RH HTML-projects at the 'same time',
switching from one into another. All projects are (or were) in
    RoboSource control.
I'm working on a Dell laptop using Windows XP Professional
which is automatically updated to latest versions. Yes, all files
are installed locally on the laptop, including the files in
    RoboSource Control.
We use NOD 32 virus scanning software.
Can anybody shine some light on this
    situation?
    tks, Paul

    Hi Peter,
I'm sorry, I left out an important piece of info: when I
start RH from the file manager by clicking a RH project it will
    start.
I also made a shortcut in whit a project-file to open: no
    problem starting.
So I can work and I can open a new project with no problems.
Problem starts as soon as I try to add the project to Version
    Control.
I checked all processes and services on my computer. Made
sure all PushOK and CVS software was not installed.
RoboSourceControl was not able to see alternative SCC drivers
    to use anymore.
    The problems stay.
I can work, if I avoid version control. So I uninstalled
    RoboSourceControl too.
Menu's in RH are adjusted and of course I don't have the
    hangup problem either
I still can't just start the RH exec without specifying a
starting project. It will just freeze.
If you or anybody else have other suggestions I would be
really gratefull, because I want to use the version control.
    tks

  • Upgrade RoboSource 3 to 3.1

I am trying to upgrade our RoboSource from version 3 to 3.1.
I read instructions on using the RoboSource Convert Wizard. When I
installed the 3.1 version, it presented a warning that stated
another version of RoboSource was found and that I needed to
uninstall it to continue. So I uninstalled 3 and installed 3.1.
Then when I opened the Wizard, it said I had to have the older
version installed to use this convert tool. So I try to reinstall
3, and I get the message again about the other version... I have
tried installing 3 then 3.1 and 3.1 then 3. Neither way works, and
I have not found a way to get both installed so that I can convert
the databases to the 3.1 version. Any ideas would be much
    appreciated.
    Thank you,
    Jennifer

    Hi Jennifer -
Sounds a bit odd to me. I thought that the installation
process, even for upgrade licenses, didn't care about older
versions of RSC (just RH). I installed side-by-side via a
standalone license, so I can't offer any direct comparison there.
Still, I think that some of our writers with upgrade licenses had a
    different experience than yours.
What I did find was that the DB conversion didn't work very
well for us. I ran a couple of large projects through the converter
and got errors. Since I wasn't particularly invested in converting
the DB itself, what I did was remove the projects from source
control, convert them to RH6, and then upload them into new RSC3
DBs. Overall, that process went quite smoothly, and I haven't
regretted abandoning the the DB conversion.

  • RoboSource Control or similar

    Hello.
I am using RH10 and need to set up Source Control - it doesn't have to be RoboSource Control but the company I contract for is moving away from SharePoint so I can't use that. Any advice on this area will be gratefully received.
I think I understand correctly that I need to ask a DB or Technical Support expert to set up an SQL database for me. That should hopefully prove to be straightforward.
However, when I currently open the Connection List in RH10 (File > Version Control > Add To Version Control), I can only see a connection to SharePoint. There is no Create button to enable me to add a new link for when the new database is set up for me.
Can anyone advise what I need to do to get this working as described in the RH10 Online Help?
    Thanks.
    Philip

    Hi,
Adding RoboHelp to source control requires a little more work, since you need to install the correct components to make everything work together. What you need to do depends on the source control system you want to use. You can find instructions for several source control systems on: http://www.adobe.com/devnet/robohelp.html
On which system to choose, I recently answered a similar question. I can't find the post anymore, but here was my answer. I hope this gets you started. Please post back if you have any further questions.
With source control, the easiest option is usually the best. Here are the three global options:
Use SharePoint for version control: This is very easy to set up and if you are a SharePoint administrator you don't need any IT guys helping out. This is by far the simplest way to go.
You will need SharePoint 2010 or 2013. SharePoint 365 doesn't work.
If you have SharePoint there is no additional cost involved.
Use RoboSourceControl: This is the source control system included in RoboHelp itself.
It works rather well, but it is a pain to set up. You need a database (and a server to host that) and connect every team member to the source control system.
You will require the support of an IT guy. I normally advise against this system because it is so problematic to set up.
There is no additional cost for this option.
Use the source control system your developers use. If your developers use a source control system that support the Microsoft SCC API, you can use that source control system.
The advantage of these systems is that they are generally more rubust than SharePoint, they are optimized for speed and they offer many advanced features that SharePoint lacks such as check in policies, integration with issue trackers, reports, etc.
The knowlegde of this system is already in house so no consulting will be required for this side.
You will need the support of the manager of the source control system and most likely also the support of an IT guy.
You will be able to get a complete version of a project from a specific label/date/etc at once. With SharePoint you can only get older versions of individual files.
Depending on your licensing structure, this option may require more additional licenses.
My advise is to choose for either SharePoint or the source control your developers use. Your management might prefer to have all content in a single repository and so choose the third option. In any way, backups will be made centrally and you will have the capability of comparing files between different versions.
If you want to quickly get older versions and have advanced reports on check in history, number of changes, etc. Than the third option is the way to go. If you only need older versions of single files and you want to get it done tomorrow, go for SharePoint.
You can always later change the source control system you use. But you will lose all history if you do this.
Please note that comparing files may require an additional free tool such as WinMerge (http://winmerge.org/)
    Kind regards,
    Willam

  • DPS Enterprise License for Apple's B2B Store

    Hey everyone,
we developed an app and successfully tested it on our iPads via DPS. We aim to distribute the app via the B2B store from Apple and the tutorial PDF from Adobe tells me that we need an "Enterprise license" for DPS.
Our company uses Adobe Creative Cloud and I am wondering now whether this already  means that we have an "Enterprise license" for DPS, as well?
    Cheers,
    Alex

    No. It does not.

  • Adobe Muse APTEE Licensing NOT WORKING!!

    Hi,
I am an IT Professional working for a major University in Missouri. We have an Apple computer lab of 26 20" iMacs, all running Adobe Creative Cloud with an Enterprise license. This license includes Adobe Muse (with its own serial number). We use Active Directory to manage users/group policies on all computers, and manage users on our Apple computers.
According to Adobe's support site, you can create a prov.xml file using APTEE and then apply it to serialize the Muse product installation for a computer lab environment.
I can only get this to work for EXISTING users. When a NEW user logs in to his or her account, they run Muse, and it asks for a subscription, as though Muse is not serialized. According to Adobe, you click on Existing Subscription anyway, enter your Adobe ID, and then it should still open. It doesn't..........it says the "subscription does not have a license for Adobe Muse" and gives the option to BUY or QUIT.

  • App-V 5 Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) Enterprise Licensing Error 213:19

Hello, I've posted this on Adobe forums but also posting here to see if anyone else has experienced/overcome this issue.
I'm attempting to create an App-V 5 sequence for Adobe Creative Cloud Enterprise software, but I appear to be getting licensing errors when launching the App-V sequence.
From what I understand in Adobe Create Cloud Enterprise, the licensing restrictions which tie the license to the machine have now been removed so that the base packages can be created with serial numbers and can be included within build images etc as opposed
to creating a trial package and then using a serialization file at install/launch time.
To start with I've created a package using the Adobe Creative Cloud Packager tool (CCP) for just the Illustrator CC application which includes the serial number. I've  then sequenced this package using App-V 5 SP1.
When I run this app-v sequence on a test machine , Illustrator loads but I end up with a 213:19 error. Looking in the amt3.log the full error is
    09/24/13 16:58:35:478 | [ERROR] |  |  |  | SLCoreService |  |  | 5624 | error deleting bad mkey:

I've tested out modifying permissions on the following folders within the app-v package under root but this has no effect.
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Adobe PCD\
    C:\ProgramData\Adobe\SLStore
I've also tried creating a package using a trial licence and then using the adobe_prtk.exe tool to serialize the product at launch (startprocess event in userconfig file) with no success.
Anyone tried this or have any ideas?

    Hello, thanks for the reply.
I have read those articles (multiple times :-)) I've installed the required c++ redistributables on the sequencer and also on the test machines.
I'm not getting any errors being reported in the App-V eventlogs.
I initially used the adobe_prtk.exe tool to serialize the app-v application at launch via startprocess in the userconfig file as shown. This runs but it doesn't work around this issue.
    <UserScripts>
          <StartProcess  RunInVirtualEnvironment="true">
            <Path>[{AppVPackageRoot}]\..\Scripts\adobe_prtk.exe</Path>
            <Arguments>--tool=VolumeSerialize --provfile=[{AppVPackageRoot}]\..\Scripts\prov.xml</Arguments>
            <Wait RollbackOnError="true"/>
     <ApplicationId>[{AppVPackageRoot}]\Support Files\Contents\Windows\Illustrator.exe</ApplicationId>
          </StartProcess>
        </UserScripts>
Following that I read that AAMEE 3.1 removed the (http://blogs.adobe.com/oobe/2012/09/aamee-3-1or-why-puffer-fish-is-a-delicacy.html) machine to license issue
therefore allowing packages to be created using serial numbers and to be included within build images.
As I'm packaging Creative Cloud (not CS6), I'm assuming this has been carried into the Creative Cloud Packager for Enterprise which now must be used.
    Any other ideas appreciated.

  • How can I transfer licenses from one account to another?

Since the 90s I've created a few different accounts (different email addresses) and have licenses scattered across a couple. I'd love to get those licenses merged into one. Can anyone help me with this?

Lie to the website until the chat option or phone numbers appear.
I found this page after choosing Photoshop and claiming I had a password issue...
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/account-password-sign-faq.html
At the vrey bottom should be a Chat Now button, though for some reason (I think one of my tracking blocker add-ons) it won't show for me in Firefox.

  • How can I transfer licenses from a PC to another one?

    Dear Sir/Madam,
in the course of the next week (Mon April 9, 2012 – Sun April 15, 2012) I will replace my present PC with a new PC. The older PC will not be used any longer. I should deeply appreciate receiving detailed step by step instructions to employ in the new PC the software I purchased from you, namely Acrobat and Dreamweaver, activated in my present PC and consequently on how to transfer the relevant licenses e the corresponding activation codes from the old PC to the new PC. I am waiting for your quick answer and send you best regards.

  • Microsoft Office can't find your license for this application - multiple copies of Office 2013 x32 failing to start, Software Protection Service timing out

We're experiencing a growing problem with our users in several different domains running in to Microsoft Office 2013 x32 'activation' issues.  We use KMS for licensing, which works properly, but some of the machines (~20-30 out of 1000+) sporadically
    throw the following error:
'Microsoft Office can't find your license for this application.  Microsoft Office will now exit.'
We know it's not an issue with the licenses per se, since they work on and off and we can force KMS activation correctly / talk to the KMS servers.
It appears to be an issue with the Software Protection service not starting properly.  In Event Viewer, we see the following:
'Software protection service failed to start due to the following error- the service did not respond in a timely fashion.
    Event 7000'
This is occurring on a variety of machines in a variety of environments, all fully patched with the latest Office updates.  It's inconsistent, and the 'manually restart the Software Protection Service' solution is not viable as it's occurring on many
different workstations.  Office repairs have also been unsuccessful.
Has anyone else come across this? Or have any idea why the Software Protection Service might be sporadically failing?  Maybe an Office update in the last 2-3 months?
    Thanks for any info.

  • Want to use Adobe forms departmentally.  How many users per license?

How many people can use Adobe Forms per license/how many computers can we download software to?

Adobe FormsCentral is a web-based app so there is nothing to download - you access from the web browser.
Each users who creates forms needs a license of FormsCentral. In a month or so you'll be able to by a team pack (5,10,25) at reduces prices for a larger group who wants to create forms.

  • One license for OSX and PC?

Is there any way that I can purchase one license (with educational discount) and use it for BOTH my Mac and PC?
Per the licensing: when I buy a copy I can install it on two PCs OR two Macs, but not one of each, correct? I personally think this is a bit ridiculous and refuse to buy two copies.
Looking at the volume licensing, found at http://www.adobe.com/aboutadobe/volumelicensing/policies/?PID=2159997 it says..
    Cross-platform licensing
Adobe Volume Licensing (AVL) customers receive product serial numbers for both Windows® and Mac OS as long as the product is available for both and the two platforms are the same version. Program members can choose to use either platform, as long as the total number of licenses being used does not exceed the number purchased."
However, does that mean that I can use it on both, as long as they aren't running at the same time, or that I must choose to install one or the other?
I am willing to buy the volume license (though a bit more expensive), but I absolutely refuse to buy two licenses.
Is there any solution where I don't have to buy two licenses? (according to one site I can buy backup disks for each platform with a volume license, but I don't want to do that either)

Yes, that particular language on multi-platform is explained here, and how that should work
I don't think you have to buy backup discs unless you personally need them, although they're only $20 apiece anyway and not a bad idea to have
