Roger Waters "Amused To Death" CD/Blu-Ray Edition - where is it?

So I am looking on the BestBuy.com site for the forthcoming re-issue of Roger Waters amazing album "Amused To Death" which is getting multiple releases on July 24th. Anyways I see the stand alone CD, the CD/DVD, and several vinyl editions are available for ordering yet... not a single listing for the CD/Blu-Ray which I can order from a certain jungle store easily right now. I would rather give Best Buy my business so... what's the deal? (And please tell me at least the CD, CD/DVD, and CD/Blu-Ray will be available in store too)

What are you talking about?  A for versions are available.
However, Pink Floyd is still a valid name but Roger Waters really isn't.  When he came out with Radio Kaos it did horrible.  Pink floyd around the same time came out with Momentary Lapse of Reason.  Roger attributed the poor sales to the fact he was competing with himself.  All of his solo albums have not done very well.
All that aside I think Best Buy is going the better route of shipping only on this item.  I honestly don't think this release is going to sell well.  And a store doesn't want a bunch of unsold copies around the store.
I personaly don't need a second copy.

  • James Bond movies the same as the 50th Anniversary Blu-Ray edition?

Are the James Bond movies currently in the (Dutch) iTunes Store, the same as the 50th Anniversary Blu-Ray edition (except from the HD 720p vs 1080)?
    http://www.007.com/bond-50-on-blu-ray/

Blu-Ray has better image quality.  Apple TV only supports content up to 8Mbps for 1080p whereas Blu-Ray can go as high as 40Mbps.
What this means in a nutshell is that the content in iTunes is more compressed, which will have an impact with picture quality.  I won't even go in to talking about sound.
At the end of the day I guess it really depends on your setup and what you're looking to get out of it.  I've seen the newer content in iTunes (Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows) and it looks really good.  I've also downloaded Gladiator (1080p) and it looks mediocre at best.

  • Thoughts on using AME to transcode Blu-Ray video...?

My workflow for Blu-Ray and DVD from Premiere to Encore has had to change since the demise of the Dynamic Link (due to the lack of an Encore CC).
In many ways this has turned out to be a good thing.
My typical project is an opera performance captured on a high-end consumer camcorder (Sony HDR-CX550V) which records an AVCHD folder full of clips. I edit the project in Premiere, adding titles, chapter marks, dissolves etc. I have started to make two-camera projects as well.
I was distraught when I discovered that the link between Premiere and Encore no longer worked in Premiere CC, but soon discovered a great deal of power and flexibility in setting the file sizes by varying the target bit rate and making other changes (such as changing the default PCM sound to Dolby Digital which takes up a lot less space).
I have discovered a curious anomaly, though, with my Blu-Ray transfers. I understand that the preferred file for Encore to ingest as Blu-Ray would be the h.264 Blu-Ray but have discovered that it takes several hours to transcode...and once I'm done, Encore wants to transcode it all over again...another significant time period wasted. An opera such as MAGIC FLUTE, which the company played in 2 hours 51 minutes (without intermissions, etc.) took FIVE hours to transcode to h.264 Blu-Ray and then Encore listed it as a file to transcode (another 2 hours or so).
Along with the added time, the process requires so many multiple transcodes I can't imagine some quality is not lost.
I decided to experiment with the MPEG-2 Blu-Ray setting and found that while it made larger files (still controllable by setting the bit rate...it wants to choose 30 but since the CAMERA can't provide a file with more than 21, setting the target bit rate at 20 makes the video just about fit, with auudio set as Dolby Digital).
The encode time for the above file is just above 1 1/2 hours. Encore ultimately takes some time to index the file (maybe 20 minutes) but puts a "don't transcode" marker on it so no further transcode is done. However, it comes up with a message complaining that the metadata is corrupt and recommending that I delete the .XMPSES file (but will lose my chapter markings). I delete the file, re-import the .m2v file...the chapter markings come in just fine. Is there a reason AME has to make this .XMPSES file in a way that Encore has something to complain about?
Also...is there a reason AME can't output an h.264 file that doesn't have to be re-processed by Encore? I understand .m4v is more advanced and efficient...but if creating one is such a more difficult, time-consuming process and I get a more-than-acceptable result with the .m2v Blu-Ray file, is there any logical reason why I should still consider the "preferred" h.264 encoding?

I wasn't aware that Encore did this automatically.
What I DO know is that with the new workflow eliminating the Dynamic Link I have the responsibility to do my own bit budgeting, and the ability to make choices in the export process to maximize the quality of my output.
I have a customer base that I can best describe as "cheap"! I recommend they buy a Blu-Ray player or computer disc reader. Even with their flat-screen TVs, they still opt for DVD.
I make recordings of opera performances for the benefit of the opera company (small amateur and semi-pro companies in New York City) and the performers. They balk at the idea that, say, THE MAGIC FLUTE, which weighs in at 2 hours 50 minutes on average, needs to be delivered on 2 DVDs for maximum quality (and I'm going to bill an extra $5 over the cost of a single DVD). So, real estate on these discs is extremely tight. I don't use dual-layer because I find them neither reliable nor cost-effective; in my experience they take forever to burn, the error rate is through the roof and they cost significantly more than single-layer.
SO I accommodate by lowering the bit rate.
In Premiere (or later in AME) I choose my favorite preset (NTSC DV Wide Progressive). The timeline comes in at a whopping 7928 MB, far in excess of the 4.7GB allowed on a single layer DVD. By the single act of changing the audio manually from PCM to Dolby Digital, the amount magically descends to 6,333. Now we change the bit rate from 5 to 3.5 MBPS. The proposed project size goes to 4,503, and I'll take the risk of doing an image at that rate (although sometimes I get burned by having the project exceed disc capacity and have to go back and do it again, since the numbers displayed as proposed project size are predictions/good-faith estimates AND there are other elements that have to go on the disc; since the transcode only takes about 45 minutes now, that's not a big deal). Yes, that's going to make a blurrier image than 5MBPS. My customers seem to prefer that to buying a Blu-Ray disc player for $79.95 at Best Buy and paying me an extra $5 for the Blu-Ray edition. Perhaps that's explainable by the fact that a previous videographer in one of these companies made the videos by recording the show in VHS and playing the VHS tapes into a VHS to DVD recorder ("Progress! We now have DVD!") I can assure that I get a better result than THAT.
The point: probably Encore would have transcoded the WAV file for me into AC3. It also would have freed up a bunch of space in doing so...and that space would be wasted since I didn't account for it in the bit budgeting process. Thus, in order to ensure the best video quality possible (i.e. the largest possible size video file in relation to the audio on the disc), it's necessary to mandate Dolby Digital/AC3 at the point of setting up the export. Allowing Encore to do it ensures a large blank area of disc space and if the project is more than a certain size, an unnecessary sacrifice in quality.

  • Premiere Elements 9 - blu-ray insufficient disc space for burning

    Hi
I have just upgraded to PE 9 with the hope that it would have less problems than 7 - it appears I am wrong
Having got over the "chapter overflow" problem I am now faced with a new one that i cannot find a thread for.
I have a video that is 2 hours 45 min long.
I want to burn it to blu-ray.
I select "fit contents to available space" the program reduces the size to 23.3Gb BUT does not remove the warning so i cannot do the burn.
I have successfully burnt 2 Blu-ray discs where the content did not need to be made smaller.
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.
    Thank you
    Michael

The file is to big for the disc, but that is why the fit content to available space tick box is there.
It does show that the size will be reduced and what the new reduced bit rate will be.
The problem is that the error message does not remove it's self so the burn button does not activate.

  • Blue screen of death when building blu-ray in Encore CS6

I recently purchased a new laptop and installed Adobe Master Collection CS6.  I purchased the laptop for video capture and editing, as well as for blu-ray authoring.
Unfortunately, although the computer and software works fine for video capture and editing, I am unable to author a blu-ray.  For authoring, I am using Adobe’s Encore CS6.  After checking and previewing my creation, I attempt to build to disc using Encore.  About 2 seconds after clicking the build disc in Encore, I get the “blue screen of death” (BSOD).  This happens every time I try to build to blu-ray (only blu-ray has this issue; I am able to build to a DVD).  I am using an external blu-ray drive on USB 3.0.
I am using Encore version 6.0.0.492

Create an ISO (Encore) or folder on your hard drive (Encore or Premiere Elements) and then use the FREE http://www.imgburn.com/index.php?act=download to write files or folders or ISO to disc for DVD or BluRay (send the author a PayPal donation if you like his program)
Imgburn will read the ACTUAL disc brand from the disc, which is not always the same as the box label (Memorex is notorious for buying "anything" and putting it inside a Memorex box)
When you write to disc with Imgburn, use the SLOWEST possible speed setting, so your burner has the best chance to create "good, well formed" laser burn holes... since no player is required to read a burned disc, having a "good" one from a high quality blank will help

  • Qosmio x775-3dv80 Blu Ray/DVD burning gets Blue Screen of Death.

    I just got a new Qosmio X775 3DV80 laptop.
Tried to burn a Blu Ray movie with DVDfab 8. The process went through all the way till the very end and then I get a blue screen of death every single time. the brief error says IRQ problem. burning DVD gets the same.
a friend as a same model laptop. tried on his with the same result.
So it's not my particular machine!
i installed a copy of Windows 7 Pro on the sencond HD. burning either DVD or Blu Ray with no problem.
it suggests there's a glitch with combo of the original Windows 7 and the Blu Ray drive.
i have not contacted Tosh yet.
    Anyone else experience the same???

Peter, thanks for your suggestions. I tried so and didn’t work either however. I compared the drivers for the blu ray disk between the preinstalled Windows 7 version and my Windows 7 Pro (works as my first post). The only difference is the former has two drivers: (1) cdrom.sys, and (2) tdcmdpst.sys. (the Windows 7 Pro has only one : cdrom.sys). It seems this model shares the a common problem, but not enough users with the app combo to stir up some waves… Additionally: Between my first post and this one, the screen acted up. It would go black and came back in 2 sec with full brightness. The current app would freeze and brightness control function stopped working. Happened in random and a few times within an hour. Got a replacement from Amazon where I bought it (same blue screen problem on this one, too). Two weeks or so later, the 3D function went out on the new one. Today, the wireless function went south… am I "lucky" or crap on Tosh’s side?

  • Audio & video don't match on burned blu-ray

Thanks to everyone on this forum, I was able to solve the blue screen of death issue!
Now a new problem:  I successfully burned a blue ray.  The menus work well and the picture is great, but the audio is about 20 seconds ahead of the video on all tracks.  This problem only occurs on the finished blu-ray disc.  In preview, the audio and video match perfectly.
I am using Encore version 6.0.1.13
    Does anyone have this issue?

Well, I am at the limit of being able to help, since I only write to DVD
But, if your video is showing as being untranscoded, I would agree that "something" is going wrong while transcoding
If you click on the 622722 link I provided, you "should" be able to figure out how to export out of Premiere Pro to create a file that Encore does not need to transcode
Otherwise, you'll have to wait for someone who uses assets like yours to create a BluRay to come along and, hopefully, point out what you need to change
These may not help, but they are a couple of links I saved about audio/video sync problems
Fix for audio out of Sync on Export http://forums.adobe.com/thread/955524

  • Fcp 7 project through compressor 3.5 or share re: creating blu ray disc

Am I missing something but it seems you can't send a fcp project to compressor 3.5 via the "send to" option as there isn't any appropriate settings for blu ray, only HD DVD.
But you can through the share option. Is that the case or am I just getting too old for all this new high tech stuff??
    "Roger Retired"

    Hi iamfrustrated
I'll have to tell you I don't have much experience with compressor, I've been using Episode to transcode my DVD files and Encore to author my DVD's and I am just getting started with burning Blu-ray. But I would think you could simply burn a Blu-ray disc image to your hard drive from within compressor and then even use toast if you want to turn make additional copies. Is that perceivable?

  • Encore CS5 crashes on importing  _sessionFiles....ac3 for blu-ray.

    Ok, for starters, I've been using cs3-4-5 for a while to create DVDs, no problem whatsoever. Even with ADL (Adobe Dynamic Link). I've been able to burn 1 perfect blu-ray project, it was on a fresh install of CS5. Since then Encore CS5 keeps freezing when re-importing the files right after the transcoding. It always freezes at the same place on many different projects;
    The filename is: _sessionFiles_Asf_session_1_audio.ac3
I've tried many things: run as admin, holding ctrl/shift/alt on startup, cleaning cache. I even used the compressed files from the transcoded folders. My audio and video are of the same length. I just re-installed the suite today just to try it again on a clean install.
I've also tried the audio as pcm:

I was able to burn a blu-ray disc with my latest project but not without any hassles!!! I had to remove all audio from the menus except the main one. The software allows me for 1 menu with audio along with my main timeline. If I add audio to another menu, it crashes.
My project is a 4cam live show with 1 audio track.
The source format is from my HDV Camera. So it's a .m2t file.
The audio track is from the soundboard, a .wav file.

I've done another project and have encountered the same problems. So what I do now is main menu with audio, rest of the menus no audio.
I like Encore coz I can do popmenu with it, other softwares don't offer it. With other softwares I can do a perfect blu-ray with audio on all menus but no popmenu. That's why I'm working so hard to try to resolve the errors with Encore, so I can have projects with popmenu!!! If other softwares would allow for popmenu I would drop Encore.

  • My iMac Keeps on try to boot on my external Blu-ray disk drive

My iMac Keeps on try to boot on my external Blu-ray disk drive and not the hard drive. Therefore when I turn it on, it boots up and then it go pass the sound and the apple logo come up on screen but then it frezzes and noing happens; even if I hold down the power button.
    System Software Overview:
    Boot Volume: Macintosh HD
    Boot Mode: Normal
It should not boot off the Blu-ray read/wrigt.
    iMac from 2013 Q1
Blu-ray is LG read/wrigt for Blu-rays, HD DVDs, DVDs and CDs pluged in by USB

Boot into safe mode (restart holding down SHIFT key). If no KP, then uninstall and reinstall those 3rd-party items that Roger pointed out, one at a time, and restart. Continue until you determine which ones are causing the problem. If KP while in safe mode, then most likely hardware related. Run the Apple Hardware Test suite, extended tests at least twice, followed by Rember.  See

  • Blu-ray Burner Consensus?

Is any consensus developing on what brands of Blu-ray burners are good?

Asking for a consensus here will be like trying to herd cats.
IMHO, here is a link to a very reputable company that offers, in my experience, excellent technical support and guidance, as well as great customer service:
    http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/blu-ray
I bought a Matsushita Drive over two years ago from them and it has been flawless, it is enclosed in an external FW400/USB enclosure. I burn both the 25 gig and 50 gig data discs, and, using Toast, do short HD movies to standard DVD blanks as well.
Just to further cloud the waters, there has been rumors for many months of the impeding release of a new Blu-Ray standard, called BDXL which will have a disc capacity of 128 gigs per disc.
    http://www.engadget.com/2010/04/03/blu-ray-discs-expand-to-128gb-under-new-bdxl- spec/
    Hope this helps.

  • Blu-ray DVD no longer recognized by HP MediaSmart or Windows Media Player

I have the HP Pavilion Elite HPE 250-f desktop computer. This computer includes a CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. I bought this computer in 2010, and all these years I have successfully played CDs and DVDs on the computer. Until now, I have not attempted to play a Blu-ray DVD.
A few days ago, I rented the "Divergent" Blu-ray DVD from my public library. The "Divergent" regular DVD was included in the package.
I put the Blu-ray into the CD/DVD/Blu-ray drive. The HP MediaSmart software recognized the Blu-ray, but the software got into an endless "update" loop and did not play the Blu-ray. Microsoft's Windows Media Player also recognized the Blu-ray, but did not play the Blu-ray.
One solution I heard about was to plug an HDMI patch cord into the back of my computer box, with the other end of the HDMI patch cord not plugged into anything. Supposedly, the HP MediaSmart software would play a Blu-ray if the software sensed an HDMI cord. Unfortunately, that did not work.
I then downloaded the Media Player Codec Pack, http://download.cnet.com/Media-Player-Codec-Pack/3000-13632_4-10749065.html    Supposedly, this Codec Pack would allow the Windows Media Player to play the Blu-ray. The Codec Pack included the Classic Media Player.
I tried to play the Blu-ray on the current Windows Media Player and the Classic version, with the new codecs installed. But nothing worked. I then used System Restore to get rid of the  Media Player Codec Pack. I found out that, in addition to the codecs, I was supposed to use the Slysoft AnyDVD HD software. However, I did not make any more attempts to use the codecs, and I did not download the Slysoft software.
Now, here's where things get weird. Now, the HP MediaSmart software and the current Windows Media Player do not even *recognize* the Blu-ray DVD. They play the regular "Divergent" DVD very well. But they do not even *see* the Blu-ray DVD.
I uninstalled the BDDVDRW CH20L driver, version 6.1.7600.16385 (win7_rtm.090713-1255). I restarted the computer, and a new driver was installed. The new driver's version is 6.1.7601.17514. But the Blu-ray DVD is *still* not being recognized.
Now, I'm hearing that a Blu-ray lens cleaner may be required.
So, what's going on here? Did the codecs in the Codec Pack damage the Blu-ray lens? Please advise.
Thank you for any help you can give me.

Hi, BH. Thanks for your response.
sp60287.exe seems to be for Windows 8. I have Windows 7.
But even if I got a PowerDVD version for Windows 7, I still have the issue of the Blu-ray disc not even being detected. The Blu-ray disc is in the drive, but the software (HP MediaSmart, Windows Media Player) says that there is no disc in the drive. This "no detection" issue began after I installed the codecs in the Codec Pack and tried to make Windows Media Player work with the codecs. Is there an issue with the Blu-ray lens? Or is there an issue with the Blu-ray disc itself?
I notice that the regular "Divergent" DVD has no fingerprints on it, even after I touch it. But the Blu-ray DVD has lots of fingerprints. Does the Blu-ray have some kind of weird surface? Is there some problem with the Blu-ray's surface that is causing the Blu-ray to not even be detected?
    Thanks.

  • Blu-ray creation causes windows blue screen crash

I am testing Premier Elements 7 for the creation of best quality DVD and Blu ray disks. Source is AVCHD 1920x1080i and I have managed to create a number of DVD's and one Bluray without problem. My latest trial creating a Bluray disk failed at about 98%, burn in progress with a Device Error message. This resulted in a blue screen windows crash. Far more worrying is if I re-insert that BD RE disk back into my PC to erase it and try again, it immediately prompts a Blue screen windows crash, so I guess the disk is ruined. I have previously used Premiere Pro, Ulead and more recently Cyberlink Power Director and Sony Vegas. The quality of the DVD footage produced by Premier is far superior and the Bluray output was also excellent. Cyberlink has proved to be a good package appart from the poor quality of re-rendered output. Sony Vegas Pro seems the only one to recognise raw AVCHD footage and opt not to recompress it!!! The Movie Studio version doesn't appear to do this, however, I have only had a limited go at the trials. I had narrowed my choice to upgrading to Adobe Premier, or the cheaper Elements 7 which suits my requirements for home movies, however, a major windows crash, which I tend never to get has got me running scared. Why o why is there not a burn to hard disk option for Bluray creation as for DVD? Has anyone experienced a similar problem - any ideas as to what I could try?

A BSOD situation normally indicates something is wrong systemicly with the computer. It can be either software (usually OS), or hardware related.
The first thing that I would do would be to gather all info on your system and list full OS, version, updates, etc., and all hardware specs. Something in those lists might provide a clue.
Next, I'd look carefully at Event Viewer, especially at the System and Applications tabs. Look for yellow warning messages at the time of the BSOD, and especially the red error messages. It might be easier to invoke a BSOD, so you will know the exact time and date of the crash. Study each yellow and each red message carefully. Many might not yield much useful info, but some might tell you a lot of about what is happening, and may even give you the cause. Please explore every link that is offered in each of these messages. They should take you to either the MS site, or to the site of a software, or hardware company. These will likely be where you'll gather the most important data.
Here's what to look for in Event Viewer:
Give us any details found there.
Also, see this LINK. The video is a bit long, but will furnish you with a lot of troubleshooting tips, and also tools from MS. Make notes of these tools and their use.
    Good luck,
    Hunt

  • External Blu-Ray drive for HP Envy Lightscribe Issues

My HP Envy 13-1100ea came with an HP external Blu-Ray drive (HP Part No: 538333-001) which identifies itself as an Optiarc  BD ROM BC-5600S. In the HP Envy 13 service manual it mentions this drive as having Lightscribe functionality but I cannot seem to get the drive to be detected by the Lightscribe Control Panel or any Lightscribe labelling software. I have tried installing the Lightscribe software (older version) from the HP product support page as well as the latest software and diagnostic utilities direct from the Lightscribe site but nothing has seemed to work so far. Has anyone had any success burning Lightscribe labels with this drive or have any advice that might get things working?

The drive has the following logo on the bottom plate:
Which looks quite similar to the lightscribe logo, although it's not exactly the same. The HP Envy 13 support page does not contain drivers for the optical drive and I can't seem to find a dedicated support page for the drive itself. I have tried uninstalling the default windows driver which it reinstalls when the drive is plugged in again. As I said before it has been communicated in various place that the drive features lightscribe functionality and I'd be pretty upset if it turns out it doesn't!

  • How do I use my Airport Express with a Blu-ray player?

Hello, first post, long time lurker. Have a question, hope someone can help me
I have an Airport Express V 6.3, currently I have it set to 'Join a wireless network' and its connected wirelessly through a Netgear router that is located on the 1st floor, I'm on 3rd floor by the way. I've been using it for airtunes, but I recently received a Sony Blu-ray Player and would like to connect it the airport express via ethernet cable.
What do I have to set up on the airport express to be able to give the blu-ray player internet?
I've noticed many threads here about airport extreme connected to express...so they weren't too helpful

Welcome to the discussion area, mareithree!
You'll need the 802.11"n" version of the AirPort Express to be able to "Enable ethernet clients" and connect the DVD player. Unfortunately, your older version of the Express does not allow this type of feature.
