Rogers Canada ISP is the cause of iTunes download problems

Hi Everyone,
Over the past month Rogers (ISP) in Canada has put some software on their networks that prevents activity for BitTorrents, P2P, IRC, and also along with that is a rule that if you are trying to download a large media file from more then 1 server it will be dropped. When you download a Podcast from iTunes it downloads that file from multiple servers in the background (I confirmed this by watching my cable modem logs). As soon as it tries to use more than 2 different servers for the download, it just stops. That's the reason why Podcast downloads stop at random places - it's the point where a 2nd server is involved in the download. The same issue causes timeouts and cut-offs in the iTunes music store.
Here is the problem - when anyone calls Rogers about the problem they say it is either a router, firewall or Apple problem and they shrug you off.
Hundreds or thousands of people in Canada can no longer get Podcasts or purchase music from the iTunes Music store. This is BAD. Please, Apple, contact Rogers and sort it out. So many people have called Rogers with no luck.
It took a while to find out the problem and a lot of people have no idea what is going on. It isn't related to iTunes 6 - it just happened that Rogers made this change at about the same time as the iTunes 6 release.

Thanks Jerry,
I have been trying every conceivable setting, changing routers, reinstalling software with no success. I needed to confirm that it was not my home setup as I had coincidently changed my setup shortly before I started having the problems. I was beginning to suspect either Apple or Rogers but didn't know where to look next. I even tried other streaming music services and they work fine, so I figured Apple must have changed something in one of their recent iTunes updates.
Reading your explanation about Rogers seems more logical however. I recently asked them about Firefox support for some of their Radio streaming services and they replied "no, only Internet Explorer is supported at Rogers". They are a Microsoft-partnered company so it only figures they would not help non-Microsoft users.
On a technical side, Rogers may have a valid reason for not allowing multiple server downloads as this is a popular method of piracy. However, when they interfere with commercial-based customers they need to cooperate and support their customer base.
Just in case someone asks (seeing most of the posts here are Mac users), I am using a Dell PC with Windows XP and all the latest security updates.

I'm also experiencing the same problems using Rogers High-speed here in west Toronto.
If Mr. Brace's assertion is correct then it's absolutely unacceptable for Rogers to just arbitrarily modify their clients' networking mechanism simply because they're trying to manage "BitTorrents, P2P, IRC" etc.
Are we Rogers clients not all subject to enforced bandwidth quotas? Beyond the quota what right does Rogers have to deny my internet usage should that extend to "large media files from more than 1 server"?
Considering the ever-increasing spotlight on the iPod and all things Apple, I'd have to hope that Rogers aren't totally asleep at the helm and realize that they need to address the situation (or disprove it!) before current subscribers vote with their wallets and take their business elsewhere.
I'm going to contact Rogers during business hours tomorrow and have my call escalated as high as I can get it before explaining the situation and asking them what they plan on doing about it - stay tuned... I'm sure that they'll tell me that they've taken care of everything and we're back in business

  • I need to know the location where iTunes downloads software to, it is filling up my hard drive.

I need to know the location where iTunes downloads software to, it is filling up my hard drive.
I am trying to put my iPhone4 into recovery and then will restore it. iTunes starts extracting the software.  But the iPhone reboots and by the time the software has completed extraction, the iPhone can no longer be seen by iTunes.
We have a very small hard drive on our laptop.  Each time iTunes does an extraction, it uses up more space on the C: drive.
Nothing frees up that used drive space. Not closing iTunes or rebooting the computer. Nothing.
How do we release / delete these files?

before storming into the Apple store i'm trying a couple of manual firmware restores..
I should have an answer shortly but the idea is this:
    goto http://osxdaily.com/2010/11/02/download-ipad-firmware-ipsw/
and download the firmware for your ipad model. if (like the rest of us) you do not know which ipad 2 you have, then download the first IOS 6.1 ipad2 file following these steps and if you receive a message saying "not for this model, or not compatible" then try the next file.
small warning, this is a total factory restore so the downloads are around 700mb each.
    1. open itunes, ipad disconnected.
    2. connect ipad
    3. warning restore message appears
    4. (windows users) HOLD SHIFT and click the restore button. This should open a dialogue box allowing you to navigate to the file you downloaded. Select the file and hit ok.
    5. this should start the manual restore, if it fails, download the next file and repeat.
    good luck all.

  • Certain I have an ISP iTunes download problem - anyone else experienced?

I live in Jakarta and I recently switched to a new ISP. I can download all podcasts onto my PC and selected ones from my MacBook Pro but many constantly get the stopped err = -3150. The PC can access all websites I type in but the Mac doesn't allow me to connect to the same ones. It's odd but I think between iTunes and Safari and the PC working just fine that I have an ISP problem with the Mac. Anyone else had this happen and what was the final resolution if any?
    Thanks,

From what I've read, this definitely has to do with your ISP. Give them a call and let them know what is happening.

  • What is the cause of this syncing problem?

Increasingly I am getting the message, "Waiting for iPod" whenever I connect my 2nd gen iPod Shuffle to my iBook. This typically happens when I dock my iPod or shortly afterward. Then when I eject my iPod from iTunes, it still appears in the Finder. When I attempt to eject it using the Finder, I get the message, "The disk 'IPOD' is in use and could not be ejected. Try quitting the application and try again." Then I have to quit iTunes altogether to avoid getting the dreaded "Device Removal" message. Some times it takes several attempts to get a clean doc, sync and eject.
This has been happening over the past couple of versions of iTunes. I noticed that the latest version, 9.03 (15) was supposed to fix this problem. It hasn't improved the situation at all. I have followed other suggestions on the Apple website such as plugging my dock directly into either of my iBook's USB ports, but that doesn't make any difference. This is getting quite irritating. It's also happened occasionally when I've docked my iPod Touch.
What do you think is going on?

    First part of your question:
    Error Message
    %CFT_API-3-CFT_ERRMSG_NO_MEMORY: [chars] [chars] [dec]
    Explanation
The system was unable to supply the requested memory for flow processing to continue
    Recommended Action
Reduce other system activity to ease

upgrade to a larger memory configuration.

Pretty generic, but its a start, the process in question is cft_flow_lookup.
This may be an indication of a deeper resource issue.

  • EDGE - the cause of battery & overheat problems in 3.0?

So I got the overheating/battery symptoms on my iPhone 2G like a lot of people here. I started to experiment as to why these problems were occuring and I think I have finally found the culprit:
    EDGE/GPRS
I'm on a Pre-Paid plan since my iPhone was given to me by my brother so I no longer need a plan for it. When I upgraded to 3.0, my iphone started having 1/2 the battery time I used to have on 2.2.1 & it was getting hot enough to cook an egg! Then I discovered that my APN Settings were not set so I set them up. I was happy! My battery was back to normal and my iPhone wasn't frying my hand whenever I held it! but then the next day I tried to make a call and BAM no more funds on my cell phone. I was like wth?! I just put in $50 bucks on my cell the day before yesterday, why don't I have funds anymore. I called my provider and they told me that I had used it ALL up on internet Use. That's when it occurred to me "hey EDGE, you're an expensive lil..."
So I disabled EDGE by taking off the APN info and BAM I was back to 5-6 hours of battery life (stand by or on usage) and my iPhone was causing my hand to develop arthritis again (not literally but yeah)!
So Apple... HOW DO I DISABLE EDGE?! Seriously this is costing me a fortune and if I attempt to get rid of it my battery life is poop (Because iPhone goes nuts and tried to connect to the EDGE network every second).
    Please help me. anyone?

All - Thanks for the information.
I am receiving the same error, "There is a problem with this Windows Installer package. A program run as part of the setup did not finish as expected. Contact your support personnel or package vendor." Thought I found the answer in your replies above. However, I cannot find the "Apple Software Update" program either from Start -> All Programs or the Control Panel.  I am running Windows XP, Service Pack 3. I would appreciate any additional guidance you have.

  • Is the Apple TV - iTune sync problem with Windows VISTA resolved yet?

I just bought Apple TV yesterday. Tried syncing with Vista Desktop. In exactly 2 minutes, ATV disappears, with few content synced up. Tried with XP laptop and it works. I see lot of discussion on this topic, but is there any real solution, other than returning it back?

This same exact thing is happening to me when I changed computers.
I had it working fine from my desktop, but I recently switched to a laptop and I now get the same sync issues.
I even restored my ATV to factory settings!
    What gives?

  • Use this link to report your itunes downloading problems to Apple

    http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

After spending the better part of the morning on the phone with my ISP Comcast, in Memphis, TN they swear it is not their issue. They had me run several tests to the modem, internet speed and browswer and according to them, it was all fine.
Because the the music store is the only feautue I cannot open
(no problems accessing other websites), they feel it is an Apple issue, with iTunes in particular. I am inclined to agree since I was able to access the music store briefly this morning.
I would encourage everyone to contact Apple by email. If enough people do so, they will have to fix the issue if it is an Apple problem (imagine how much business they lost this weekend from people being across the country being unable to buy music), If it is not an Apple issue, they can certainly exert some pressure on the ISP's regarding the connections.
In general I have not liked the new version of iTunes and noticed slower connections when I downloaded it even when I could get to the music store.
