Rogue AP alerts from WCS 4.1.83

I'm looking for a way to make rogue AP alerts generated by WCS more user friendly. Ideally I'd like the names (not Mac address's) show up in the alerts. Is anyone doing this?

I think he means the names of the LWAPs, not the rogues themselves. It is kind of a fudge that you have to go search your AP list to figure out where the rogues are, unless of course you have memorized every radio MAC on your network :-)

    Hello all,
Is there a way to limit SNMP traps sent by WCS to only Rogue AP Alert?  I know I can configure WCS to send email notification for Rogue AP Alert, but couldn't find anything similar for SNMP traps.
Also, where can I find WCS MIBS and OID for Rogue AP Alert?
    Thanks.

  • Rogue Rules and Rogue AP alert in Prime

    Hi Supportcommunity,
i have done a lot of research according this topic but i was unfortunately unable to find an helpful post.
If i missed something I am sorry about.
I got the following issue my customer complains about Rogue AP Alerts in Cisco Prime.
There are always many of them.
I already configured the Rogue Rules at the WLC´s security tab as follows.
Here are the rules in detail.
    1st rule
    2nd rule
    3rd rule
Could you please help me to understand what I did wrong.
I dont understand why there are still so many Rogue warnings although I configure it to not alert.
    Thanks for your support
    With kind regards
    Benedikt

Rogue detection is a way of being aware of other APs in your surroundings, I would not advise on turning the SNMP traps off totally. On the other hand the customer cant really blame you because there are other APs around their network? In 99,9% of all networks there will be....
However, if you want to tidy up among the rogue alarms, the rules can be used.
What your rules are saying is "Anyone except me using my SSIDs? - mark it as a Bad Guy" (OK).
Then it gets a bit weird to me, lets do a short one on Signal strength:
    - 30 dBm = Less than one meter from the AP at max European output level 20 dBm EIRP
-40 dBm = Ten times weaker, some 2-4m from AP. All distances are roughly speaking...
-50 dBm = 1/100 weaker, less than 10m from AP
-60 dBm = 1/1000 weaker, some 16m from AP, a "normal" and strong signal
-70 dBm = 1/10000, within 30m from AP, not great, but lower end of "normal" span
-80 dBm = hardly useable signal, might be able to connect @ 1-2 Mbps, not much more
-90 dBm = almost no clients can use this weak levels
    -100 dBm = background noise.
You delete rule says that "Any other AP located less than a meter from mine (-30 dBm) should be marked as Malicious and deleted". Lower this to, say -70 dBm and see what happens.
Also note that the order of the rules can be important. It runs from top down, and as far as I remember the last one that matched determines if it is Friendly or Malicious. Play around with the levels first, then if necessary the order of the rules, and get back...

  • MSE often unreachable from WCS

    Hi,
I have upgraded MSE in my network from 7.0.105.0 to 7.0.201.204 a week ago.
After the upgrade, often MSE is going to unreachable state from WCS. A restart on MSE with "shutdown -r now" resolves the issue. But again after 2-3 days, it becomes unreachable from WCS. The IP reachability is fine from WCS and WCS communication password also matches.
"/etc/init.d/msed stop" command keep on showing "Shutting down MSE Platform ..." but never actually shuts down. only "shutdown -r now" helps.
getserverinfo is not giving any results.
Please let me know, what can be the possible issue.

When I get an alert from my car sat nav the music on my iphone has a long delay before it comes back on and misses a part of the track why does it do this.
It only seems to do this since an iphone download last year.......its driving me mad !

    See:

To copy iTunes purchases to the computer you have to log into (authorize) the account that purchased them and them transfer

  • On iOS 7, my wife receives alerts from my calendar even though she chose not to see my calendars on her iPhone (We have the same iCloud account). How can I turn off my alerts on her iPhone 5 but nor her alerts ?

My wife decided to use her calendar on her iPhone 5 via our iCloud account so that it will be synchronized with her iPad 3.
I have been using it for many years for leisure activities and for my work.
Althought she chose, in her calendar settings, to only see her calendar and not my calendars (I have many for leisure activities, for one of my job, for my other job etc...), she still gets alerts from my calendar events even thought she do not see the events on her iPhone nor on her iPad.
Has anyone a solution for this ?
I read many things on internet about this but found no solutions yet.

Well, let take the personal service point of view : let say, I had two calendars on my iCloud account : one for work, one for my leisure activities.
On my MacBook Pro that I use at home as well as at my office, I would want the two calendars to show and since I am alone in my office, I would want the alerts for both my work and my leisure activities to show (and make a sound at the same time).
But on my iPad that I only use at home, I would only want my leisure activities alerts to show (and make a sound) and on my iPhone that I only use for work, I would only want my work alerts to show (and make a sound).
That is a personal service that simply does not work.
Why would Apple give us the opportunity to hide some calendars on certain devices but not allow us, on these same devices, to switch off the alerts linked to these calendars that we have chosen to hide ? Why having alerts of calendars that do not even show on these devices ?
And I am an Apple fan since 1984, since the very first Mac. I still do believe Macs and Apple devices and/or software (iOS, OS X and others...) are much better and much more efficient than " Microsoft, Windows, Google and other Android devices and software.
But that does not mean everything's perfect (and I find that quite normal).
Nevertheless, in this case, letting alerts make a sound on a device where a specific calendar is not shown, that does not make any sense : when uncheking those calendars, the alerts linked to those calendars should be automatically switch off (but alerts should be able to work on the calendars that are shown.)

  • Migrate from WCS 7.0 to Prime Infrastructure 1.2

    Hi All,
I am looking for advice on the licensing and upgrade path for going from WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2.
At present I have a WCS licensed for 200 APs which is  managing one controller and 150 APs.
I intend to use the Cisco Prime Upgrade Promotion
to order R-W-PI12-M-K9 (WCS 7.0 to Cisco Prime Infrastructure 1.2 Migration)
and L-W-PI12-100-M and L-W-PI12-100-M to match the number of licenses on the WCS.
Once Prime is installed I also want to manage another 50 devices, does that mean I have to purchase the
Cisco PI 1.2 Base License and Software (R-PI12-Base-K9) and another 50 Lifecycle licenses, or will
my existing 200 licenses from the upgrade suffice.
Sorry if it's confusing, but I didn't invent the licensing structure just trying to make sense of it all.
    TIA

You'll be able to manage up to 200 devices/APs simpy using the upgrade from WCS to PI 1.2 as you described it. No need to order another base license or 50 lifecycle licenses.

  • Can I migrate from WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2. If so, what are the guidelines for migration?

Can I migrate from WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2. If so, what are the guidelines for migration? Do we have any Instructions/steps?

Migration from WCS 7.0 to PI 1.2 can be  performed. If the customer wants to migrate data you need to first upgrade to  NCS 1.1.1  You can download NCS 1.1.1 from Cisco.com if you have a valid service  contract.
For the migration step involving NCS an evaluation license is  sufficient.  You can obtain an NCS evaluation license from http://www.cisco.com/go/license >  Get Demo > Network Mgmt Products > Cisco Prime NCS Evaluation License.
Instructions for migrating data from WCS 7.0 to NCS 1.1.1 are available in  NCS 1.1.1 Release Notes.  Do not upgrade to NCS 1.1.2 as this release is not  upgradeable to Prime Infrastructure 1.2.  If you are ordering a Cisco Prime  physical appliance (PRIME-NCS-APL-K9) be sure to select the NCS 1.1 image which  you can later upgrade to Prime Infrastructure 1.2 after you have migrated your  WCS data.
There is a post in the support forum which can be refered.

  • Alerts from ECC

Chek these... i have a doubt which is bold below.....
    Alert Rules
Message-based alerting is used to notify about errors that occur during message processing. It is based on the alert framework, among other things, so you can leverage the functions it provides, such as sending the alert by e-mail, fax, or SMS.
By defining rules within the RWB, you can filter the monitored messages according to error code, error category, and message header attributes for sender and receiver. For instance, if a customer only wants to be informed immediately when his core business scenarios fail, the message-based alerting can be restricted to the respective interfaces only.
    -     Use RWB to define Alert Rules within PI
    -     Use ABAP for defining rules within ECC and generate an alert from ECC to PI by passing the right variables.
    My question is
how do to this.....how to define rules within ECC and generate  an alert from ECC to PI by passing the right variables...?
any idea guys....i am going with ALRTCATDEF...

  • How  to  generate  an  alert  from  within  a  workflow?

    Hi Experts,
Let  me  describe  my  scenario. Presently  I  am  working  in  CRM 5.0. There is a need  to generate an alert from my workflow . This alert   should  be generated in the Web Client in  a  particular tab only.
Now I have identified a function module called  'SALRT_CREATE_API'  which can be  used to generate alerts. But  in  that  function  module  one  of  the  import  parameters is   'IP_Category'  which accepts  the category of the alert . Now the  alerts  in  the WebClient do not have any such thing as 'Alert Category' . They only possess 'Alert Id' and 'Alert Class'. (spro => SAP Reference Img => Customer Relationship Management => Interaction Center Webclient =>Basic functions => Define Alert  and Alert Profiles ).
So  please suggest  me  some  solution.
    Thanks & Regards ,

    Hi,
I am not sure whether you have gone through this documentation:
    http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw2004s/helpdata/en/45/732041c877f623e10000000a155106/content.htm
Which mentions that you will have to maintain the Alert Category. You can use transaction SALRTCATDEF to define your alert. You will have to maintain the Business Object from where you are triggering the alert.
If you need it via Business workflow then you can see the documentation:
